Re: Am I too late? (66,151) (66,167)

MIAMTEC is one of her best reviewed albums. It's a critical darling and fan favorite that fell on deaf ears. Mariah is to blame for the albums failure to an extent. She had professional and personal reasons for not promoting it. She acknowledged this during the Mario Lopez interview. She seemed excited about her new music and her tour of Latin America. She was poised and straight forward and she looked beautiful.

There is nothing wrong with Mariah being sexy. Those moments when she gets the sexy factor right she looks amazing, but there are moments where she tries to force it and it doesn't always translate into sexy. There are plenty of women her age and older who exude sexiness and they do so without walking around in public in their underwear, posting ass shots or posting bathtub shots for attention. They even manage to show the twins without looking trashy. Sexy is not my problem. Making yourself look like a $2 hooker on purpose is my issue.

Vocal issue with other singers (66,165)
by Tevin from USA

|
|
So we all know that many singers have been suffering from vocal issues from, Ed Sharron to Adele, to Araina (?). But I was looking up singers on YouTube and I came across Leona Lewis who I haven't heard in a while, and even though she sounds good her voice, transition, measaliums are no where near as good as they were before, even her fans in the comment section has been talking about this. Anyway I wanted to bring up this point because people get on Mariah for sing only for about a decade (I'm counting from 1988 when she started recording) to 1997-98, before having serious vocal problems but they act like she is the only one. Leona Lewis has been singing about the same time span 2006-2016 and her voice doesn't nearly the same at all. How Mariah sounded from Daydream to Rainbow is basiclly how Leona is sounding now. Hopefully her vocals will improve. I know stress played a big part on her voice problems and im sure it did the same with Mariah. Anyway I hope she can come back strong like Mariah did. And I just wanted to make a point that Mariah isn't the only one the peaked early in their career.

You hit the nail in the coffin Andrew. This is what makes me so mad, because fans turn around and say things like, "The real Mariah is found in her lyrics, or who she truly is, is in the music she makes." Even Mariah has said the real her can be found in some of her songs. But then Mariah goes on a show and or an interview and downplays or bashes her earlier songs with deep meaning and lyrics as if they mean nothing to her. Remeber them I think it was last year on GMA or Today show playing a video of Mariah singing Vision Of Love and Mariah couldn't even look at herself in the video. So sad. I'm still a fan but the way Mariah has been acting or at least protraying herself to the public and bashing anything pre 2005 minus Butterfly era, leaves me sitting her pissed like who the frick is the real Mariah?

Andrew / eternally12 (66,161)

See I think she does have redeeming qualities. Think of it like this Andrew, the woman who wrote all of the lyrics to Close My Eyes, and Outside and probably wrote all of the lyrics to Petals, Right To Dream and Languishing is the same woman who is frolicking uselessly. Without Tommy she would've been famous. Just not where she is now. Maybe a cult fame like Brand New Heavies, Tracy Chapman, Arrested Development and any other R&B genius of the 90s that never got its sunlight. I don't care what anyone on this board thinks of me. I still feel one day, after public embarrassments and people thinking she's not relevant, she's a has been and she should be put out to pasture with the rest of the cows. Her deepest body of work will come, the true follow up to Butterfly. Remember, after Glitter and Charmbracelet people counted her out. We know what happened next. This next comeback may not be commercial achievement but it will be an artistic zenith. We are in a transitional phase in my opinion.

Anabelle is back, with an unoriginal name. I don't know why bother with a different name when it's not even that different, I mean they could have gone for something like Dandelion. But that name didn't work for them either to hide their crazy self so. But we love everybody.

The problem with "Memoirs" I think was not her manager, it was LA. Memoirs had a lot of promotion. She was on a lot of shows, including The Chatty Man (which is probably one of the last international promotion she did). She was booked both for performances and interviews and she handled it really well. She looked beautiful and happy. Her dress up was fine too. It's LA who caused the downfall of "Memoirs". First by not letting "Obsessed" do its magic. That song would have definitely charted higher if he did not pull the plug on it. Then the following single choices were bad. "H.A.T.E.U" So So Def remix could have been a hit but LA didn't allow it because of his differences with JD. So all in all I'd say more than her manager, Memoirs was doomed because of LA. I think even MC2Y had quite a lot of promo. Ever since then it started going down the drain with her choosing one wrong manager after another. I still can't wrap my head around the idea as to why she doesn't hire the best manager around. She has the money and I'm sure people would love to take her on as a manager but maybe she does not want another "strong voice" to tell her what to do since she does not want to be "managed". As much as I think Mariah is a brilliant songwriter and possibly the most gifted vocalist, I have to say business wise, she needs to learn to give control to someone who does this for a living.

This message board is a hot mess lol I'm torn when it comes to MC. I love the fact she is so confident in her body and imagine. Two years ago she was extremely over weight and her voice was almost gone. Fast forward to now her body is snatched and she sounds better than she had in years. Comparing her to Whitney Houston's tumble is far fetched. I think fans are over dramatic at time. Whitney ended with horrible performances and a reputation of using crack. Mariah right now sounds and looks amazing but comes off trashy with post. End of day if she sounds amazing everything else is fixable so chill. I don't think MC knows how much social media plays apart in image. I think she takes a pic and think it's for fans eyes only. Simular to the voice messaging drama years ago with Stern. Someone needs to tell her social media is her brand. I just think MC feels great in her body and wants to show it off. I think it's too much at times but think it will die down. It's like when we lose weight and want to show it off. She just got divorced and feeling herself. Is it helping her image? Hell no. The good thing is this is completely fixable. Also, please don't bash her working with JD. YDKWTD was a smash. I will welcome songs like this 24/7. She's in the beginning of recording so chill. We don't know who else or what else she has planned.

Do you have any redeeming qualities? That was a rude rhetorical question, but you knew that. Mariah is one of the greatest singers and she is a beautifully flawed human being, as are we all.

I agree about the siblings. They are lost indeed. It would be awesome if she could tell them how she feels, for some closure, but they would only use her words against her and try to sell even more stories to the tabloids. She may end up helping them, but I understand if she does not. She must feel like Joseph with the coat of many colors, sold out by siblings. Only in the end he did what he was "supposed" to do. But Mariah is human and this ain't the Bible, lol. Forgive them, but give space, a whole lot of space.

I agree with everything you said except patching things up with her siblings. Her mother, yes, but her siblings don't even deserve eye contact from her. They have proven time and time again that they are abusive, heartless and exploitative. Mariah may be lost at this point in her life but I really don't think reconnecting with hateful and disloyal family members is going to make matters any better. I don't believe in keeping family close when they are abusing you just to say that you have family. Blood doesn't make you family, love, respect and loyalty does. If anything maybe she could do one of those genealogy searches and try to reconnect with cousins, aunts and uncles from her parents sides, but those siblings have gotten all of the chances that they need from her. If the only way your family will stop publicly bullying you is if you shower them with money then they aren't worthy of being called family.

She keeps hiring inept managers so I'd have to agree. An artist is only as good as his or her team. Mariah's hasn't had a good manager since 2008, which was the last successful era she had. She has but I don't consider Randy, JD, and Stella managers their her friends. I don't know who her manager was during the Memoirs era but whoever it was also did a poor job.

Not excited about new music (66,148)
by Natalia from Italy

If I am truly honest about the subject, didn't like the last two releases of new music from Mariah. That would be "Infinity" and the remix that followed. (Which was quite a tragic mess.) Unfortunately this makes me not very excited about this "new music". I hope and pray to God that it is truly a great song, but when I listen to my gut, it tells me not to expect greatness.

She is totally lost. She never learns. Can't create new material and now she is back with Jermaine for another dejavu session. Her dress sense is zero, social media pics are horrible. I don't understand this fame monster that she has become. She lives in a bubble and is ignorant of the world around her. She probably thinks it's still 1997. These young girls are going to steal her crown and they will rub it in her face. She is totally lost.

Interesting take on it, Randy. I've said it before but I'll say it again: Tommy gets a lot of criticism for apparently imprisoning Mariah and not allowing her to be herself and doing all these other really mean things he did with her whilst making her an international superstar with more money than braincells, but I'm not sure she would have gotten very far if she wasn't controlled. If she behaved like this slutty airhead in the nineties I don't think she would have made it past the first couple of years. It's possible that the girl with the amazing voice and the beautiful face was a bit of a muppet who had to be controlled and reined in for her own good and so the millions invested in her didn't go to waste. Look at the Loverboy video. I'm sure behaviour like that was knocked out the park by others in the decade leading up to it. I know this goes against the story Mariah has been feeding for two decades and will make lambs pull their wool out but it must be asked, music aside (and even that seems like a historical subject now), does Mariah have any redeeming qualities? I'd like to know what they are.

What a mess (66,145)

This woman had everything in her hand since day one to build an empire. She had the beauty, the talent, one of the most beautiful voice on earth, the intelligence, the right people by her side to make things happen. And now when I see what she has become, it makes me really sad. It's like she doesn't know what to do with herself anymore. Probably because she didn't think she would live so long.

Over 30 sexiness (66,144)
by Ty from USA

You know, when a person reaches 30 and over if they are in shape they start to feel sexy, confident. My mother now wears a dang push-up bra at 60. It's the new normal. I think Mariah in person is extremely sexy and she should be allowed to embrace it after her lambs and the public calling her fat for over 3 years.

Hi Robert Anthony. You actually have an impressive list. We can at least say that the Weeknd, Diane Warren, Crystal, and JD are in the bag. The only other feature that has to happen is the Drake/40 collab. 40 is a brilliant producer and Drake is very talented and isn't afraid to do a love song. A hot song from them would fly up the charts. Come on Mariah, he isn't connected to Nikki via Meek Mill. Tory Lanez is overrated and egotistical for me, I prefer Bryson Tiller. I love how he quotes "Shake it off" on the second verse of Don't. A hot uptempo from Timbo feat Missy would be hot like Janet's "Burn it up". I know he didn't produce that but it sounds like a track of his. Mariah and Jazmine on some throwback song. Babyface and Mike Will. I need something magical like Melt Away and Faded. I never heard of Illangelo and discovered he is a producer/songwriter. He has some hot stuff. Doe he do work with Banks as well? Thanks for sharing your list, I like discovering new music.
