A quote for Mariah (41,344)
by Paul from Usa
| |
|
|
"Too much ego will kill your talent." I love Mariah, but I'm honestly getting annoyed and sickened by her diva-ish, all attention on me attitude. Last I checked she wasn't born into the royal family, so why does she strut around like she's a queen?Look I've been a fan since 1993. I was at one point a super obsessed fan, and I thought everything she did was perfect. But these last few years I've lost a ton of respect for her. I don't believe she's passionate about music and her career. I don't think she has a open mind when it comes to exploring other avenues. I see her tarnishing her reputation by these awkward, all over the place interviews, numerous bad performances (lip syncing, bad voice, wardrobe malfunctions). What does she give back to society anymore? She has the means to help others, give to charity, to take a stand against things she believes in. Equality for gays (huge fan base) poverty (she's been there), woman's rights. I think what bothers me most as of lately is how she's copped out and performed for another dictator after she got backlash the first time. I'm so tired of it being all about this provocative, sexual image, I'm so tired of hearing how she insists on having 12 dozen white roses, 5 white kittens etc in her hotel room. That the lighting and temperature have to be a certain degree, and she's must have sparking water in her toilet before she'll take a squat. I'm absolutely repulsed by it anymore. Please don't attack. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Can someone post updates on when there are changes in Mariah's iTunes chart movement. It's already off the top 100 iTunes singles chart here. I think it peaked somewhere around 30.

YME airplay, elegance and MC demeanor (41,342)
by Brad from USA
| |
|
|
Hi Lambs. Hope you all are well. After listening to YME quite a bit, I've grown to really enjoy it. I was wondering if anyone here is actually hearing the song on their local radio stations. I live in Connecticut, USA and have not heard it on the radio. It occurs to me that the song, while catchy in some ways, is rather elegant and nuanced; perhaps in a way that radio won't embrace. Maybe that's why the remix and dance tracks have been released so soon. As for Mariah's demeanor, I'm bemused at times. The way she often comes across and portrays herself seems incongruous with her roles as a mother, wife, woman of faith and gold-hearted, diva next door. It potentially has a greater impact on her legacy than her ability to have a hit 25 years out. I do hope she appreciates that on some level. Lets hope for the best during this new era. Be well.

I know I just went off on a rant about Mariah's personality but I gotta say I like the remix and the video. And Trey is a sexy piece of eye chocolate candy. Mmm.

Mariah's insecurities (41,340)
by Alex from England
| |
|
|
Yes Mariah has always been insecure since she was a child, she has said it many times. She is a very sensitive reflective woman (her lyrics throughout her carreer shows that, Close My Eyes, Languishing, Looking In, Outside, I Wish You Well etc etc). She thought she wasn't pretty growing up because of how people considered her as a biracial person. Starting in the business at age 18 she was told her left profile looked terrible compared to the other side. Now after reaching 40 she's had to fight off the bias that women older than 40 are no longer relevant or interesting. Can you imagine living all your life with people having a say on who you are, from a child who was bullied (that always stays with you) to a globally famous singer (where everyone has something to say about the way you look, speak, do your hair, which dress you wear)? I do agree with the poster who said she hides her insecurities behind that diva act. I think she gradually stepped up the act as she started growing older. That being said, Mariah is still the same person, she will have those interview moments where she just talks about something and is just serious and focused. Yes sure, not lately, but it's not like someone changes at 43 from one month to the next. Mariah is still trying "to let go" as she beautifully sang. Yes sometimes she does come across as a bit pretentious but I think it may be annoying for her to see all those talentless "singers" on top when she actually loves music with all her being.

Directors (41,339)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
Why isn't Mariah working with Brett Ratner, Paul Hunter or even Jake Nava, the directors responsible for her best videos to date (ITL, WBT, DFAU, Honey, Shake It Off, TMB, Get Your Number, Heartbreaker). These videos were super sexy yet classy and with great storylines. So where are they? I want Mariah to blow everyone's mind with her new album and videos. Someone needs to get me her number. I want to manage her, no offense to JD though, he is doing his best getting her a lot of face time.

The diva attitutude overload (41,338)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
Some people are writing that M's recent behavior is playful and/or it's her breaking free of Sony forcing her to appear "more white", that's ridiculous. Mariah has always been classy (even after Sony), Sony just made wear more clothes. But look at her interviews from TEOM, E=MC2, even Memoirs era, these were well past Sony and she was funny, witty, professional and classy all at the same time. Like suppose her interviews with Ellen (where she seems most relaxed) during these eras, she had her diva attitude but it was toned down and it was actually funny and she kept things classy, joking but at the same time being professional. In the Alan Carr show, she was super poised, even though he kept joking (which is hist style so fine). She even directed him away from some inappropriate jokes nicely. MC never needed an Oprah interview to appear sincere. Neither did she need to sound robotic and not be playful during interviews (after Sony). She had a perfect balance of professionalism and humor (being funny but giving straight and informative answers about her work) well up to Memoirs, so please don't justify her recent behavior saying she has always been like this, go check out her interviews from the eras I mentioned. Someone also wrote MC knows work is a joke, that's crazy, if she thought that, she wouldn't be trying so hard to start off her album with a #1 hit and delaying the album each time a single didn't perform up to her standards. I love MC, but it's the truth.

Remix video (41,337)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
No, no, no. This remix video isn't working for me. One video of Mariah cradling her chest is more than enough, now we have two of the exact same videos with just a few more cut scenes of her underwater, and Trey singing, it doesn't change anything at all. What happened to the video that was playing behind her when she was performing at the BET awards? It looked classy and nice where she was dancing or had her hands around a man's neck and she was wearing white gloves and then there were shots of her on a black piano wearing all black. It was the same ensemble she had on in the pictures with Trey and JD. I will also just add again, why didn't Mariah just cover her chest with a shell bikini or glitter bikini or just wear a nude body suit with strategically placed glitters/stones to cover her modesty? She would have looked much more natural.

Video (41,336)
by Ryan from the Philippines
| |

|
The rants against her videos are pointless too. I mean, when did she always have the best videos? If she has 50 songs released in her entire career, only 25% of those had good videos (specifically TEOM era when Island invested so much on her). One Sweet Day, as one of her biggest songs ever, didn't have a good video as well just IMO. As what I have pointed out with regards to TEOM, a song accompanied by a good video depends on the support of the label. I see when it comes to Mariah they always resort to cost-cutting, and I see where Mariah is coming if she won't give her 200% too. And the problem is, people are just over-expecting. In a nutshell, I have moved on since the "Bye Bye" video. The sad truth, IDJ won't be spending that much for Mariah anymore. But "You're Mine (Eternal)" is still good though only those who have common sense will appreciate and understand the video.

Radio plays for You're Mine are going to be pushed for February 24th? I was hoping they'd push as soon as possible. It actually scares me that they want to wait to fully release it to radio. I just hope when it picks up, it really "picks up". Until then, please my fellow lambs stream the videos as much as possible.

These new remixes of youre mine are hot. I love the resung vocals. I can't wait untill they get to be released on iTunes. This song has to be successful on the Billboard dance charts. Every single that Mariah has released and remixed reached #1 on the Billboard dance/club play charts. What do you guys think?

I was extremely disappointed in the remix video. Mariah said that Trey was prominently featured in this one and really he wasn't. It was the same as the original except we get like ten extra seconds of Trey. I just don't get why you release two videos just to make them the same. The video had no storyline or concept. Mariah really needs to step up her video game.

Throwing Nick under the bus (41,332)
by Licia from USA

I find it comical that people who don't even like Nick feel she's throwing him under the bus. I'm team Nick, but he's so wrong. Lol. Anybody who's spouse leaves them to go to all star weekend would be upset. You all claim she doesn't answer questions directly. Well she answered that question directly and honestly. I'm not mad at her for feeling that way.

How "dare" I? Yes I dare to speak my mind and express my thoughts. I live in a free country. Is Mariah the second Messiah? Are we not allowed to question her behaviour and mindlessly accept that she is perfect with no flaws? Obviously I'm not the only that think she's been pretty nutty lately. I still love her voice and don't think anyone can measure up to her, but I'm finding it harder now to like her as a person. She needs to bring back the humility that she used to have and bring the arrogance down a notch. And I'm not sure why you brought up Patti because Patti seems more grounded to me.

The new video wasn't much different, but makes better sense for me now that they added Trey's singing part. Now it makes sense that he was thinking about her wherever he was and she was thinking of him wherever she was. That didn't translate in the original video with just showing him at a video shoot. I didn't get it lol.

Agree with J (41,329)
by Mara from United States
| |

J, I agree with everything you said. As far as Mariah not acting "black enough" in the 90's, there are many full black artists that still don't act the way she does so I really don't know what that has to do with it, but it understand what you are saying. I by no means want to come off as nitpicking Mariah. I just hate to see the press more about what she is doing, not wearing, going all ov the place in interviews. Anyone remember Good Morning America? I just would love to hear more about her music for once rather than her antics. That's all.

Memoirs (41,328)
by J from USA

Screw what anybody says, Memoirs was underrated. That album was solid from start to finish. As I got older I realized E=MC2 was a weak follow up to TEOM, Memoirs was a step in the right direction after E=MC2. Sadly, the promo was horrible as was the single choices after Obsessed and the videos. HATE U anybody? Lol. That song could had been massive. I really wish she could had done the Memoirs era all over again.

Mariah's personality (41,327)
by J from USA
| |

|
Nobody is bashing Mariah at all. But Mariah has never acted this way before. I have seen so many articles on her Breakfast Club interview and everyone keeps writing how she seemed "loopy, drunk, out of it or dazed". Honestly it's not a good look. Plus I'm not sure if anybody noticed but she had her eyes closed for much of the interview, mind you she was wearing sunglasses. Even after she divorced Tommy, and was able to be "herself" she never acted this way. Marah was funny, well spoken, confident and never rambled on or had this holier than thou attitude.

Mariah in interviews (41,325)
by Ben from United States

I definitely agree with one of the previous comments about the way that Sony tried to make Mariah "respectable" and to tone down her blackness. People seem to be longing for "that" Mariah from the early 1990s, but that's clearly not who she is. She has reiterated that fact many, many times.

I'm glad she decided to change the title. You're Mine (Eternal) is the perfect follow up to #Beautiful. You're Mine is the best ballad she's released since 2005. I love the lyrics their relatable, catchy, and poetic. It's classic Mariah updated without sounding dated.

Re. Carlos, Mariah's ways (41,322)
by Joe from United Kingdom

Even though some of your post was cut out I could gather what you were trying to say, I think. I totally agree with what you said about Mariah's odd behavour sometimes. I also believe alot of it is to do with insecurity. I'm no shrink but with Mariah I sometimes try to look beneath the surface of what she presents herself to be, underneath the beautiful diva character I feel like she's not comfortable in her own skin unless she's able to present herself in exactly the way she likes only showing herself from her good side, lighting and her personality. It seems the older she gets the more she constantly thinks this way to the point where she seems like her mind is some place else. I honestly think Mariah is amazing no matter what she looks like or how she acts because her music is what made me like her to begin with. I actually don't mind Mariah being abit crazy it's just her being funny some of the time but I can understand how it comes across to the public as an over the top diva. Either way I will always continue to support Mariah no matter what and want the best for her. Sorry if I sound dramatic.

How dare you insult Mariah and Michael Jackson in the same sentence? The only one going off the deep end is you. Mariah is just being herself. She can't be relaxed at an interview? She kinda reminded me of Patti. And keep in mind, her and Patti hang out. And she is not an alcoholic.
