Emancipation: Part III (80,140) by Weston from United States
I think that Mimi should market her next album as her 3rd part of her Emancipation. I mean, it would be a new chapter for her career. And it would remind people of the light that shined on her in the 2005 and 2008 years of #1 success. Led by a catchy, uptempo lead single as a firestarter (ILT nostalgia), it just might work in her favor. Especially with all the great press that she has been receiving lately. NYE: Part II, we're all waiting for you.

Hero (80,139) by Gee from U.S.A. (New York City)
When you think of New Years Rockin Eve you think of fun and upbeat but when I think about the task at hand Hero is the perfect candidate here a song with universal appeal with the message of overcoming with everything that MC has experienced this year and with everything going on in our country and world as far as racism, terrorism and other social issues affecting the world as a whole. Hero serves as the perfect message needed right now. Also this performance is more for the masses rather than the fans. I will not complain about the situation I am just appreciative that MC has been granted this opportunity again.

Re: Hero? (80,134) (80,138) by Mara from United States
Hero is not my choice. Just not a NYE feel good type song. ILT, Heartbreaker with the Guess Who's Back and Jay coming out is a sure party starter. Fantasy is an automatic feel good song. I actually like the idea of her showcasing vocals with My All and then going into ILT and her iconic pose. Anything but Hero. At this point I think even the non lambs or "general public" are sick of that one.

Hero? (80,137) by Special K from USA
Well, maybe Mariah is singing Hero as a tribute to all of the lives that were lost this year during these horrific massacres (Manchester, Las Vegas) and hurricanes. 2017 was a shitty year when it came natural disasters and random acts of terrorism. I agree with Licia and Jade, I'm really not trying to hear no Hero because I know I will be straight faded on the bubbly and patron, lol.

Re: Setlist (80,122) (80,136) by Lila from United States
Now, all I can envision are emotional drunks sliding down walls to sit on the floor, while blubbering and drunk dialing friends to thank them for XYZ deed(s). The friends don't know what the hell is going on, of course.

Re: Hero? (80,134) (80,135) by SM from Citizen of the World
It's possible she could do parts of songs and it ends with Hero, I mean if Ryan was like "She's performing 'It's like that'" nobody will really have a clue unless they are lambs.

Re: Hero? (80,128) (80,134) by Tyler from USA
This isn't a performance for lambs but the general public. As much as I'm over Hero, I'm glad that she's playing it safe. It's also 9 degrees in NYC. I want her to stand behind a heater, prove she can hit a note or two, and then call a day.

Re: Setlist (80,126) (80,133) by Andrew from UK
I agree with you. And you and you and you and you, and you and you and you and you (y' y' you you you). I would possibly rather watch her badly lipsync to the original track a thousand times over whilst [censored] with sandpaper than hear that live version of Hero one more time. She really needs to get a grip. If she reminded people of her back catalogue they might actually, um, I dunno, buy it? But hey, as long as everyone gets to hear that she "wrote this song"; that'll make people like her again, right? How utterly dull. And that's the troo-ooth. I ain't gon lie bout dat.

Family Feud (80,132) by RibbonB from USA
Wow, so Jay and Beyonce wanna end the year like that? Amazing visuals, story, actors and the possibilities are endless. At least they make the business of marriage/divorce extremely artistic. Sadly we're still concerned about which old song M. will sing on her redemption moment on NYE. I do hope her association with ROC nation will infuse her routine with something more for 2018.

Haha Randy, brilliant. You're right, embrace. Really and truly I'm happy where she's at. Bring on Hero and whatever the other track is.

How NYE performance will go (80,129) by Randy from USA
"I am so excited to be back this year to celebrate this amazing tradition. Although things weren't festive last year (rolls eyes up and smirks) I am always excited about new beginnings. Now I'm going to sing a song, I don't know if you know it but it's called Hero." Piano intro. Puts her head down. Rolls her head back and smirks. "If you know it sing along." "There's a hero."

Hero? (80,128) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
I'm on the "Hero" train (as in, why? other then it being one of her best know tracks, it's not a party, celebrate vibe). If she's only doing two songs, she should make them, "It's Like That" and "Auld Lang Syne". Or, even better "Auld Lang Syne" and her surprise brand new single that's going to shatter the charts of 2018.

Re: Setlist (80,117) (80,127) by enwar00 from usa
I understand what you're saying, but who cares? The question was what songs would we want to hear her sing. I don't really think Mariah is checking this board to figure out her setlist. So I still vote for Meteorite. I like the Thirsty idea as well. Heartbreaker isn't my favorite at all but would work well. There is no rule that says artists have to sing specific songs on tv. Another reason she sings the same songs is because she doesn't take chances. Barely even does at her concerts. Some artists do.

Re: Setlist (80,122) (80,126) by Bill from the UK
I deflated a bit when I heard Hero was going to be performed. It'll be sung in the strained 2008 arrangement with the usual lipped "you'll find the waaaaay, hey then a hero comes along" finale. Meh.

Re: Anything but Hero (80,123) (80,125) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
I had a feeling that this would always end up on the setlist somehow. I know she would like to have a moment with the fans about overcoming adversity and all that especially after last year's flub, but still, really? Now anyone who has watched her post-2010 perfomances of this song definitely know what to expect. The usual runs, the notes she would dodge, the ad-libs, the "you and you and you" ending, etc. It's all so predictable now. And although Hero is a classic, it's just sad how her choice to stick to a limited selection of songs from her vast repertoire over and over again only serves to highlight her hesitance to step out of her comfort zone and possibly her laziness to at least create new arrangements for those big hits she has already sung to the ground. The only way Hero could make sense on New Year's Eve is if it's in the form of an energetic house remix ala the My All one. I hope the other songs are not (caps) Emotions, We Belong Together, and Vision of Love. Now Mariah, this initial news may be a bit disappointing, but please still go ahead and redeem yourself regardless of song choice.

Anything but Hero (80,123) by CMC from NY,NY
Mariah needs to bring it not only with the energy level and looks but with the setlist. Now they're saying Hero? Come on now. Cheeses schmaltz and she even says that herself. Why on earth would her team not encourage a more up beat energetic medley of party songs to blast onto 2018 and forget last years mess. I'm hoping this isn't a missed opportunity, but this Hero news is crazy disappointing.

Re: Setlist (80,117) (80,122) by Licia from USA
Most of us know and understand that she won't sing her lesser known songs. We just want her to pick her known uptempo songs. The last song I want to hear while I'm drunk going into the new year is Hero. Lol.

Re: What songs should she perform? (80,113) (80,121) by Licia from USA
I just watched an interview with Ryan Seacrest saying Mariah will be performing a couple of songs, one of them is Hero ( blah). That's the one she will be singing before the ball drops. I guess. I thought I was going to get away from Hero. Lol.

Re: What songs should she perform? (80,113) (80,120) by Anonymous from
I must be one of the very few that actually dislikes Migrate. Since its release in 2008 it seemed outdated, as if it should have been released back in 2000. With the added T-pain feature and auto tune, plus the over cheesy lyrics, I can't help but cringe when I hear that song.

For the performance I would absolutely love Mariah to shake things up a little:
1. Thirsty - This would prove Mariah can still make current hip music, without the feature of anyone else. I think the song is sassy, clever and extremely catchy. Dedication to Stella perhaps.
2. Unforgettable with French. The song didn't get the acknowledgement it deserved. Would prove Mariah can still be relevant and be regarded as a significant artistic to work with. It would be extremely popular with the younger demographics.
3. Heartbreaker - Jay makes an appearance. It's an old skool fave and would remind the world just how great she once was. Plus being on stage with Jay wouldn't hurt.
4. Mariah's Theme - If she could hit the "shining brightly" note at the end then the earth would literally stop turning. It's basically Hero 2.0. If too difficult to sing then DYKWYGT, it's easy to sing and a classic amongst older fans.
5. Aud Lang Syne - It is New Year after all. I think the song is better than the original and has the potential to become tradition amongst a larger audience on New Years Eve.

Whatever she performs I have faith the performance will go down well, come on Mariah.

She's still at number three this Friday on the German charts. That's pretty impressive for a holiday song from 94.

Setlist (80,117) by Will from England
Ryan Seacrest has confirmed that Mariah will perform two songs, one of which will be Hero. I agree with The Real Deal, obscure album cuts aren't meant to be sung at major events. That's why she sticks with ABMB, Hero, WBT etc. for major, non-fan based events because she knows that people know them and will be invested in the performance, especially if it's a short one. With longer setlists, she can have a little more wiggle room to dive into the more unknown, fan-favourite songs.
