Re: Through The Rain (66,573) (66,578) by B from USA
I would love to hear the original version of Loverboy with the Firecracker sample. I love Through The Rain. I think it was the perfect single to reintroduce Mariah Carey.

Get her special earplugs. They filter out the harshest tones that can be damaging but still let you enjoy the music. They're not cheap but well worth it.

Your own private concert (66,576) by Jeff from USA
Let's say you won the opportunity of a lifetime to have MC perform 5 songs for you and only you. You can pick the songs. This is your chance to show MC what her music has done for you personally. It is an expression of your personal fandom and a commentary on what you hope for in the future. Which 5 do you choose? These are mine:
1. Close My Eyes - For the rawness.
2. Breakdown - Because it got me through heartache.
3. Fantasy - This is how I was introduced to MC.
4. We Belong Together - Because I knew she had it in her to top the charts again.
5. Cry - It should have been a #1 and we all know it.

P.S Mariah never looked crazy in that video. She looks [...] and exudes exactly what the songs is about. She's effing hot.

I always thought "Loverboy" was a genius track. [...] both 80's flair and early 2000's (especially the remix). Maybe some of the adlibs in the chorus prevent the chorus from being easy to remember. [...] are a little bit distracting (especially the verse chorus, but then again it wouldn't be "Loverboy" without them. The video is one of Mariah's best [...]. "Through the rain" has helped me a lot in my late teens. It is special. [...] agree about the crescendo thing.

Re: Through The Rain (66,555) (66,572) by Bill from the UK
I remember when I first heard Loverboy, here on this very forum, it was the first time I felt a little deflated and let down by a launch track. Now however, I love it and it grew and grew on me over the years. When TTR was launched, I liked the fact that she launched the album with a ballad, but I thought the production was lacking and it could have done with some strings, a snare drum, and a choir (that Afanasieff schmaltz if you will), but now, I wouldn't change a single thing about it. The spareness is what sets it apart and the quiet beginning that crescendos to the final chorus is perfect.

Oh so she did act weird. But at least I assume back then her antics probably weren't as annoying and off-putting. Not surprised about Norton being a [censored], though. Most talkshow hosts are nothing like their affable TV alter-egos in real life.

Languishing hands down. So vulnerable. So powerful. So Mariah at her best.

Advice on buying tickets (66,569) by Susana from USA
I'm a legacy member, but would need to renew. I also have American Express, I see they have their own pre sale too. I don't want a meet and greet, just as close to stage as possible. Any advice is appreciated. My daughter will be 10 at the time, and is begging to join me and my husband. I feel like this will be her opportunity to see MC live for the first time, but I worry about the volume. So, I guess I'm asking what method seems to get closest to stage?

Andrew you asked a very good question. "Do we remember songs as we once thought of them or in the spirit in which we felt about them at the time, or do we re-invent the past and our own sentiments based upon how we feel about the music now?" Very few songs by artists for me bring me back to when I first heard them. The one that stands out for me is "Music Box" not the album as a whole but the song. Every time it's played I am brought back to a trip I took with my parents to Northern California. We had a long car ride and I brought along the one thing I knew would make me happy. My portable CD player. I remember hearing it for the first time and truly feeling the emotion in her voice and truly being amazed at what I was hearing. I would get so mad when the song skipped. Lol. To this day I cannot listen to it without feeling like a little kid with his headphones on. Thank you for your post it brought back all sorts of nostalgia.

Languishing and Twister are both so heartfelt and soul moving, these songs obviously come from a very authentic place because I feel every lyric she sings in my spirit. Nobody nails vulnerable vocals like Mariah, the way she emotes in that soft soothing whispery tone is an unparallel skill. This is hard, but out of the two I pick Twister only because I have more of a sentimental connection with it. I would also like to point out The Wind being another song that she emotes on the same genius level of these song (full song version wise).

Re: Favorite interlude/prelude (66,559) (66,564) by The Real Deal from USA
A friend of mine who was a big Spanish music listener actually loved Angels Cry and played it over and over again. He was a non Mariah fan, so that is saying something. It was the duet verison.

Male singer remaking "Emotions" track (66,563) by The Real Deal from USA
On singer Lovari's FB page, he speaks about recording a Mariah remake for his upcoming album. He says something to the effect of "I'm not gonna give it away", but if you listen to the vocals in the studio session in the background, it clearly is "To Be Around You" from the "Emotions" album.

Re: This Mariah (66,554) (66,562) by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada
I feel Mariah put up a massive wall after 2001. It's somewhat understandable given the very public blow up and response to that. She's a sensitive person. There seems to be a sort of protection for her in keeping herself at arms length. There's a lot of little girl seeking love in her, despite the very overt in your face sex kitten stuff.
