The best judge on Idol (74,146) by Edward from USA Mariah shouldn't have signed up to be a judge on Idol. Not all money is good money. She didn't sue them because she wasn't ever promised to be the only female judge on the panel. Had there been a clause on the contract stating so, she would've sued the hell out of them for sure. She should've just walked away with her millions and be done with it, but she was the first one that started throwing shades, nothing is ever her fault. She was there to judge based on her vast knowledge of music, yet she let her diva persona take over, like when she got late to one of the auditions, and then stated: "Dahling, If you want a diva, you have to pay the price." Well, if you play the diva role long enough, then you also have to pay the price, and you've been paying for a while now. Nicki is nowhere near Mariah's talent and knowledge of music, yet she was definitely a better judge. Mariah got lost in being nice all the time, and that's not what the competition was necessarily about. It's not about hurting people's feelings like Simon used to do sometimes, but it isn't about being afraid to say something that might make the contestants feel bad when they have clearly f*d up. Being the most influential figure in music to have ever sat on that panel, all eyes were on her and her expertise, but she fell flat and forgot why she was there. I don't think that was a 20 million job. The truth is usually somewhere in the middle, and just because Mariah portrays herself a victim of Idol, it doesn't mean she necessarily was. When Mariah kept things classy and didn't bite into bitchy questions, she was perceived better. But things keep getting worse, and it is not necessarily due to the company she keeps. Mariah sabotages Mariah. She's very well seasoned and experienced in the music business, so nobody is really using her as a puppet as some here tend to think. (Wednesday 5 April 2017; 00:01)

It didn't matter if Nicki was a singer, composer, producer or rapper. Mariah wanted to be the only woman there. There could be as many men there as humanly possible, just not another woman. How no one sees this thought process as problematic is beyond me. Do you ever hear men saying, "I want to be the only man there or all bets are off"? Yes I think Nicki was wrong for completely coming unhinged on Mariah but I also think it wasn't fair for Mariah to be shady to her from the beginning just because she's a woman. When people say women are just as hard on other women as men are, this is the type of stuff they're talking about. Also, Simon and Randy were not singers and Paula could barely sing, so it's not like hiring Nicki was that much off the mark. The premise of the show was never about singers judging other singers. It was about people in the industry judging singers. If we're keeping it real Mariah was the first and last qualified person that they ever hired as a judge for AI. (Tuesday 4 April 2017; 23:17)

The minute Idol producers showed their hand, she should have stepped back, or gotten some kind of agreement before taping. She saw that mess coming. AI producers were definitely messy and disrespectful, but Mariah can't keep jumping into the shark tank and expect that others are going to help her, or "do right by her". They are expecting her to sink or swim. Mariah has to learn to stay out of dirty or shark infested waters especially when she has plenty or forewarning, or even a few hours or minutes of forewarning like on NYE. Mariah shouldn't have gone on the show, she was above it and also she isn't the type to criticize aspiring artists. But I guess she thought her role would be different. Oh well, whatever done is done, all parties should move on. This is ridiculous to be bringing this up now and stirring new drama because now everyone will be like "What did Mariah do?" You have Mariah, the greatest pop vocalist to have ever existed on this planet, working with a clown who can't even hold a tune. This was beneath her, and you pulled a classic bait and switch trying to get Mariah on board. Stop it with this whole only female scapegoat. If that was really the case, Mariah would not have handpicked her to costar with her in a music video. The producers were desperate to revive sinking ratings and thoroughly enjoyed the controversy, drama, and ratings. AI became such an absolute joke when it started crowning mediocre winners with no viable commercial success. The hack had absolutely no right sitting on the panel judging a singing competition. Re: American Idol producers attack Mariah (74,136) (74,139) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter True, all parties were at fault, AI should have been more clear about their panel selection decisions and also they can complain all they want about Mariah or Nicki but truth remains that they leaked the footage and they used it for promotions to get ratings. This isn't new, most reality shows feed off drama, so now for them to pretend that they are innocent and didn't use it to their advantage (or that they played no part in starting it) is a blatant lie. Second, Mariah's part. I've said this before, but the first dig at Nicki was thrown by Mariah on the first episode. I don't know if they had fights prior to that, but on the first episode, Mariah walks in an throws shade at Nicki's head piece. Mariah also could have used this AI opportunity to just simply teaming up with Nicki and making a statement that she doesn't feel threatened by anyone, you know, throw in a little woman empowerment moment. Lastly Nicki, now we know Nicki is this bratty loud mouth, and I think it was very inappropriate for her to talk about shooting Mariah or hitting Mariah, it's not cool. All in all they could have just resolved this by now, by just chatting up. But oh well, but ya AI needs to focus on putting a quality show up instead of trying to drag up a 4 year old feud. Ariana has some potential, and her latest album, as derivative as it is, still shows that. But it's one thing to stay silent and blow everyone away with the actual output, it's another to think you're the s***, hype your creativity up only to underwhelm in the end. And with Britney, I always feel protective of her because although she may not be the best singer, she still shares Madonna's great ear for what sounds cool, though to a lesser extent. To me, you can kick Rihanna off that list of greats. I don't believe AI told her she'd be the only female judge. AI, Mariah, and Nicki are all at fault because they all could have handled it better. AI should've never promised Mariah that she would be the only female judge on the panel. As a talent show, it would be a hard request to fill, anyway. Had that season not been such a nightmare, I could've seen Mariah returning for another season but what if something happened to another judge and they needed a replacement but could only get a woman who was willing to participate? There goes that little promise. They may have wanted her as a judge but they shouldn't have let that cloud reality. Mariah should've never asked to be the only female judge. Get your insecurities in check or stay home. Also, she should've just been a woman about it and step to Nicki, before things got out of hand, and told her that she didn't mean any disrespect, she was just trying to avoid any would be drama, it was nothing personal. I was really turned off by Nicki's actions at that time but, again, hindsight being 20/20, I can see where she was coming from. I highly doubt most women could say that they wouldn't have been taken aback, offended, or felt unwelcome if they found out a co-worker of theirs only wanted to be the only female on the team. Something all great female artists have in common (74,133) by Edouard from France I believe Mariah, Mary J, Beyoncé, Janet, even Madonna, Rihanna and Britney Spears (whom I don't think is a great artist per say but I recognize her importance in the pop world and I like her as a person) all have something in common: they are opened to their vulnerability as much as they are strong, fearless and powerful. They are all humbled by their success and it took them years to fully own their status. Side note: I watched an interview about Ariana Grande today and I almost chocked when she bragged about her artistry and her songwriting like it was nothing. (Tuesday 4 April 2017; 01:14)

Re: American Idol producers attack Mariah (74,125) (74,131) by Malcolm from Asia Part of me thinks that the whole mess was AI's fault because they allegedly deceived Mariah as the only female judge (they did it to JLo so why not?), but was it the responsibility of Mariah's team to assure things before she signs any contract? And if they really told Mariah (legally) that she's the only female judge and had Nicki as a last minute addition, does Mariah had the right to sue them or anything? But, part of me also thinks that if Mariah just dealt with it and can get along with anyone without drama, given the fact that she and Nicki had already collaborated in the past and for sure had "moments" together, it shouldn't have been a problem at all and that season could've been one of the great and funniest season AI had. Go through my posts, I'm always positive about Mariah, but I also don't think it's right to criticise Nigel after everything Mariah has said about Idol since her time on the show. If it helps, she looked the best she has in years during that era. Positive enough for you? Idol producers (74,128) by Gee from U.S.A. (New York City) To be fair Mariah has made her unflattering comments about her days at Idols. But I really believe that the Idols producers have a motive here because just last week it was announced that they are planning to reboot the AI series and I really think that this is to drum up some sort of interest. Let face it I believe that the producers of Idol deceived Mariah to get her to become apart of the judging panel by telling her she would be apart of thre person panel and then went to Nicki to attract the younger audience and it backfired. So in all both parties are wrong. But I definitely feel all parties need to stop talking about season 12 of AI as it is done and over with. (Monday 3 April 2017; 19:41)
