If We (65,954)

I never knew all the drama behind the song (I didn't have much Internet access back then). I did always like the song when Glitter came out, and noticed the similar sound and theme to "I'm real". You have to wonder what could have been if Mariah had been able to put the song out first. It would have been a hit for sure and got its rightfully credit for creating a sound. The sound of that year. But it also goes to show that Mariah can always create the next big sound. Here's hoping she gets creative again and makes another sound movement

Who's the bigger diva? (65,953)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |

Just found this clip too, and they ask the cast of "Empire" who is the bigger diva? Mariah or Cookie? And Taraji just went ahead and praised Mariah a lot. I'm glad these are being addressed head on. Leaves absolutely zero space for drama and rumors. We need all the good promo we can get.

Excellent points Deedre. Randy you better not stop posting. I don't agree with all of what you said, but I respect it. You always post your thoughts respectfully. Even when you are being critical it's never done so in a way to be malicious towards Mariah or any other members here.

Extra interview (65,950)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
I absolutely loved her interview with Mario Lopez, here is the link. She looked so humble and excited to be there. Usually she looks like she's tired and not interested, but in this interview she's practically bouncing in her chair, looking excited and all. It's so cute. I love that she was answering him excitedly and that she said she is working on songs, after which she will go on the road to "reveal" these. Which gives me some hope that maybe they have a good promo planned. She was asked about The Weeknd again and she answered it nicely, without giving anything away (ugh it scares me that The Weeknd is being brought up in so many of her interviews, because as much as I would love a collaboration, I'm scared JLo might rush a song with The Weeknd and release it before Mariah, which would lead to Mariah trash the Weeknd collaboration and we'd never get to hear it). Overall this is the Mariah I'd like to see in interviews. Where she sounds excited about her projects and she has the "diva moments" but it's balanced out with her sweet and humble nature. I also love that she explicitly said "Taraji is the star of the show". Because there were rumors before and there might be new rumors in the days to come that Mariah was difficult to work with or they might try to spin it like Mariah was hogging the spotlight, so it's great that it came straight out of her mouth that Taraji is the star of the show. Throws the whole "Mariah is difficult" thing right out the window.

What's important to Mariah is connecting with the fans. She said it guys. The only people we are connected to are Stella and Miskha. I'm not following the Mariah Carey but a bunch of nobodies who pretend to be Mariah. Sick of it.

I agree about the song, but it's hard to top Eva's version. I don't think Mariah could do that.

I agree. I love Sting, but Eva totally brought something all hers to the song and it became something else entirely. I'd never thought of Mariah doing a cover, that could really be quite stunning. I also loooove Sade. She's an incredible artist and I love how she stays out of the public eye. Her albums are very soulful and relaxing.

Randy. I just wanted to say that even though we don't agree on this subject, I'm glad you shared. I think a lot of posters aren't interested in hurling insults back and forth and it is ok to disagree respectfully and/or have a different perspective without feeling any pressure to change it.

I would die if Mariah covered "Fields of Gold" by Eva Cassidy. It's an originally song by Sting, but I love Eva's take on it better. So soulful.

Randy, right to dream (65,944)
by Edward from USA
| |

Andrew, shut up. Randy has a "right to dream". Randy, keep on posting. I relate to your frustrations, but I would suggest one thing to you: Just don't set your expectations too high or you'll keep getting disappointed. I made my peace with the fact that even if Mariah slept with all Packer's money worth of humidifiers for 12 hours a night, her voice from the 90's would still never come back. It's gone. I don't entertain the idea or fool myself anymore. I do expect great lyrics and consistent decent performances/songs. One thing that has definitely helped Mariah's voice to be consistent is practice, she's said it before and it is evident now with her Vegas gig. I wish we could go back to when you would discover an album on first play, when we would only know the first single, and Mariah would come out just to start promoting the release of new material. I remembered unwrapping the Butterfly album, only knowing about Honey and nothing else, and then discovering each track as they played on. "Bufferfly", "Close My Eyes" and "Outside" spoke to my heart.

Those numbers show that she actually hasn't sold well since 2002. I feel like the term "flop" is relative to an artist's overall success. In that context, whether or not an album is considered a flop highly depends on it's performance compared to how well its predecessors did. The bigger the difference, the more of a flop it is. Although we should be a bit more considerate especially in comparing albums released in different decades for obvious reasons. Rebirth was the first real time J.Lo has flopped. We can say Love? performed modestly considering how digital single sales, which was in was in full swing back then, affected how albums sold. As such, J.Lo has been flopping against her own standards since over a decade ago. To be fair, that means Mariah has flopped since 2008. E=MC2 even underperformed considering it was riding off the high of TEOM, although that's mostly on Mariah and her team for choosing the wrong singles post TMB.

Post whatever you like, Randy. It's not their website. Not their circus, not their monkeys. They dont have to read your posts. Except please stop posting about Right To Dream. It's such a terrible song lol. And I hope you are no longer struggling with sexuality issues. Be who you are. It's so totally like, like, so much more super fun than, like, not being who you are. I wrote that in American English for you. Because I'm international, y'know.

Jennifer Lopez didn't even sing 50% of those songs - [...] did. Why does Jennifer get credit when it's not all her lead vocals?

Honestly, does anybody with a brain actually still give a shit about Mariah vs J.Lo vs Mariah? So a label allegedly had an artist copy an idea or two from another artist 15 years ago. Glitter would likely still have massively flopped. Both the the album and the film. And without the Glitter debacle you wouldn't have had Charmbracelet and thus TEOM. Has not Mariah herself admitted plagiarism by settling copyright infringement suits out of court? It could be argued that way. Some people really need to stop flicking their bean to this J.Lo nonsense.

Mariah's team would never be able to come up with such a clever thing. The only thing Stella can do is yell at tabloids saying "f**k off, lose my number" and that too when the attack comes her way. They can say crap about Mariah, that doesn't bother Stella as long as no one is questioning Stella and her daughter's intentions.

I meant starting in 2005. She's hadn't had a hit album. Her last 5 albums went unnoticed. I mean she's sold 1.5 millions albums in the US since 2005 when Mariah has sold close to 9 millions with TEOM (6,2M since 2005), E=MC2 (1,3M since 2008), MOAIA (600k since 2009), MCIIY (600k since 2010), MIAMTEC (150k since 2014) Since 2001 Mariah's had 10 real hits (11 if you count "All I want For Christmas Is You" which has really become an international hit and a part of the Christmas Season's culture starting in 2004) Jennifer lopez has had 10 and I counted "Ain't it funny" twice (the original and the remix). Anyway, no need to compare really. Because only one of them actually penned those songs. And we all know who that one is.

When I look at the USA sales of Jennifer Lopez' albums since 2001, I can't really call them flops: J.Lo (2001): 3,800,000 This Is Me... Then (2002): 2,600,000 Rebirth (2005): 745,000 Como Amu una Mujer (2007): 213,000 Brave (2007): 168,000 Love? (2011): 346,000 A.K.A. (2014): 71,000

This article is a little shy at describing exactly what went on, admitting what went on. Out of curiosity I went on Wikipedia and noticed that Jennifer Lopez hasn't had a succesfull album in 15 years (her third album being her last). Her last 5 albums basically flopped. Also everytime she's had a hit record, her second single has always flopped in terms of sales. I also noticed one thing (never really noticed that before). Her song "Get right" (well basically Usher's song "Ride" for those who know what I'm talking about) came out 2 months before "It's like that" and The Emancipation Of Mimi" completely overshadowed her project. Mariah pretty much rewrote musical history then after what had happened when Sony sunk Mariah's Glitter and stole so many concepts from this project to sort of reboot Jennifer Lopez 2001 album. Only this time there was no conspiracy involved. Mariah won, solely with her talent.

I can't. They are so smart. Is that even the truth? They admit it but at the same time made it for JLo's own sake. Times like that always gets me frustrated why Mariah doesn't have that type of management, there are so many other great teams for her, or at least in her caliber, so why choose Stella and the gang? Celine have one and btw it's crazy that she gets number of likes on IG like Mariah but she only have less than a million followers and Mariah have 4 million, it says a lot.

I used to never watch the Honey performances as it used to be mostly lipped but now she sings most of it live except for the very end. Her tone here sounds so good and I love how she goes for the "cause its blatant that I'm feeling you" growl/belt combo every night. She has me watching her uptempos more to hear what she does next vocally. Some could be mistaken for pre-records as she sounds that good.

Sade is golden. I have all her albums, which have increasingly become harder to come by (only 6 so far, and from Lovers Rock, it took a few months shy of a full decade for her to release Soldier Of Love). I especially love her voice more when she was younger, from the Diamond Life to the Love Deluxe era. I'd love Mariah to cover Your Love Is King, War Of The Hearts, Love Is Stronger Than Pride and Kiss Of Life.
