LA is convinced Mariah can't score a hit without a current collaborator. The only recent collaborations that have worked for me are Nas and Miguel.

I'm going to day it out loud, no more duets please. I'm genuinely tired of it. I want Mariah a hundred percent, no more rap/hip hop. Raw Mariah.

Totally agree Bill. I keep listening to Vanishing and just think how amazing it would be if she just stripped her sound back and sung with a piano. For a good example I was listening to Freedom by Rebecca Ferguson and just imagined Mariah singing it, sending the room into silence with the power of her voice.

Agreed, I am totally for hearing Mariah and only Mariah singing on her next project. Oh and some good background vocals, either Mariah or others. Lol. I know she likes to collaborate with other songwriters, so I have no problem with the Weekend or whomever as long as they can help her work to her strengths and help her carry out her vision.

Mariah has been the trendsetter in the past, and has never conformed to them. People have said she needs to duet with this person and that person. No she doesn't. The comeback and TEOM's success was down to it being a great album. A sophisticated set of songs, delivered in the way only she can. We Belong Together was a runaway success because it was a decent song, with universal appeal and relatable lyrics, with a dynamic vocal delivery. Mariah needs to focus on making great music, not duetting with The Weekend and Bruno Mars. If she writes with integrity and from the heart, success will come. She had nothing to lose with TEOM and it was her sincerest effort since Butterfly.

With the greatest of respect, the chances of Mariah releasing a new single before 2017 and working with Walter again are about the same as the chances of her getting a breast reduction. It ain't ever gonna happen. I predict we'll get a new album in late 2017 at the earliest.

"Infinidy" is much better than "Infuhmuzz", absolutely. So, here we go again: more excuses made for Mariah (so automatically now that the excuses are lined up before the event itself) and hollow predictions of better stuff in the future (today was yesterday's future, no?). Anyway, let us all brace ourselves for the Empire episode itself. I'm sure Mariah's acting will more than make up for the song.

The Weeknd (66,950)
by RibbonB from USA

Starboy may be getting lots of airplay, but it sounds like a slightly improved The Dream IMO. The Dream just never got the level of success as a solo artist that he was seeking. The Weeknd is having his moment, but his music is not that great or timeless. I do love Earned It, for all the drama and attitude and build that it creates, but his song False Alarm is retro, but in a bad 80's pop rock kind of way. Kudos to him for his success, but I hope Mariah gets back to some strong R&B. It would be interesting if The Weeknd could craft a song or two for or with Mariah as co-writer, but his voice is so unamazing I hope they never duet. But if Mariah is trying to get on radio, a duet with him might work, but there is never any guarantee. I hope she only makes music with others because she actually likes the songs. Maybe it's just me, but I am craving an all Mariah project with just great songs and excellent musicians with live instrumentation be it Gospel, Jazz, R&B or Pop.

Exactly. If there are fans that love a song and there are others that don't, at the end of the day it's all good cause at least somebody like it, right? I say don't let no one steal your joy. I absolutely love You're Mine (Eternal), however that song doesn't get alot love on this board. Do you think I care?

Re: Is it really decent or is it "Infamous" (66,909) (66,947)
by May from Denmark

I agree this is a bonus as an extra until the anticipated end of year show. I think the song is good but here is my honest take on it, I feel that Mariah decided to do this very generic RnB sound just to play ot safe because the song it's for a tv show. I don't watch Empire, so I'm not sure if the song is this way because it is related to the character that she is playing. I believe she wanted to make something that will be appealing to the general public. In my opinion she could have given a little bit more, overall by the end of the song, it seems like something is missing, and that autotune with whatever Jussie was singing or trying to say should have been cut. I won't throw dirt to the song because I definitely think it's much better than Crapfinity (from which I only liked the chorus and final note). "Infamous" has something sexy to it, probably the tone which she sang it with, I like that very much, but I don't find anything in it memorable or catchy, if it was for an album, it would be a filler, a nice filler that is, but still not one to wow unless it gets some arrangements. I listened to it a couple of times but I still can't hum it like I did with "You're Mine" which I did like and enjoyed. I thought the song was going to be horrid after reading some of the reviews here, probably that's why I wasn't sad about it haha. But I've seen a fair amount of positive reviews elsewhere and people on YouTube liking it. To conclude I would say the song needs a bit more of Mariah's pow, that one that is so characteristic of her and was very lackluster in this new song.

Infamous (66,946)
by Lee from UK
| |
|

I listened to it once. That was enough. I have no desire to hear it again. What has happened to me? Usually if I don't like a Mariah song (think "You're Mine", "Infinity", "The Art of Letting Go"), I will play it a couple more times and it becomes bearable enough to add to my playlist yet I will almost always skip it when it begins to play. As soon as I hear the strike of the match in "You're Mine" that song gets switched. With "Infamous", I'm not even going to bother putting it on a playlist.

She didn't brag about it at all. The only time Miley and Mariah was ever together in a picture was the Just Stand Up performance, which was way back in 2008. Stop making sh*t up lmao. And that's another thing you don't get about showbiz people, once you screw them over, they drag your name like a kid all over the place. It's like "f*ck Mariah, she didn't give a crap about anyone on the show". It's the same thing with Demi, she saw Mariah as a c*nt towards J-Lo so again she called her out like it's her business. "F*ck this lady, she's mean to my friend." Same with Eminem. "F*ck her, she's ashamed and embarrassed of our fling." Same with Nicki Minaj. "F*ck this old lady, she constantly shades me because of insecurity." I still am for Mariah and she will always good regards from me. But what she does really tend to piss some people off. So they end up not caring if they say anything negative towards her. I think the only thing Mariah needs to learn is to stay away from fools, because being around fools causes harm and danger. Other examples: Nick Cannon (naming Mariah as number 1 on her Hollywood women I have smashed list like a damn fool). Wendy Williams (calling her out on her breast implant, trashing her publicly). Howard Stern (disgusting sexual remarks). These are the kind of people she needs to have nothing to do with, because they are all f*cking fools. And this why I'm still a little uncomfortable with Stella. She seems to be the type of lady that gets high on revenge and hate. But then again, what do I know? I can only pray she does nothing to Mariah if she ever fires her. But I'm happy that she's with James. Seems to be a good influence (success aspect) and a man with a genuine kind heart.

The Weeknd's Starboy could be Mariah's stargirl (66,944)
by Bobby A from United States
| |
|
|
The Weeknd's Starboy is exactly the sound Mariah needs to be played on radio again. I can hear Mariah singing "I'm a stargirl". The title sums up her life and it sounds like Metorite. Can you imagine a Weeknd and Mariah collaboration? Both are very good with melody. The Weeknd emulates Mariah with his runs. He has his falsetto and she has her breathness/airy voice. What a song that would be on the radio. Radio would eat it up. I swear Starboy is playing every hour on the radio. I predict the following: 1. The Weekend collaboration- first single 2 Released December 2016 - first single 3. New album - March or April 2016 4 Only 14 songs with the following collaborations A. Walter Affansieff - 3 songs B. DJ Mustard colllabo C. Ryan Tedder collabo - 2 songs D. Noah "40" Shebib/Drake collabo E. JD/BMC/Crisytle collab - 2 songs D. Babyface collabo E. Mike Will Made It collabo F. The Weeknd/Illangelo collabo G. David Guetta collabo F. Mark Ronson/Bruno Mars collabo G. Beyonce collabo I believe she knows that with this album she has to bring it. She has to remake herself with a sound that is relevant but true to her style. She is listening to us with our requests to work with Walter A. again. She knows this is her last chance to reclaim the top of the charts.

Infamous - I like it (66,942)
by Matty from Vancouver Canada
| |
|
|
I like Infamous. Get over the hate and criticism. I agree with everyone on this forum that says, "If you don't like it, cool, but you don't need to ruin for those would do." Her voice gave me One Sweet Day vibes at point and I agree, I love how she used her whistle in an "early days at Sony" way (like on her debut album). Is it a lead single from a new album? No, certainly not. But if this was an album cut, people wouldn't be judging it so hard. I don't like the auto-tune on Jesse. That's my only criticism. But the piano is beautiful, and Mariah's voice is appropriately subtle, especially considering the story line it's meant to reflect (Jamal's still dealing with his shooting). Not to mention the Empire soundtracks all have a vibe and trajectory, and Infamous will flow nicely with that given the first two seasons' soundtracks.

Me too. I skipped Stay The Night all the time and never got into the song. I like Say Somethin' and I'm okay if people don't like it. Infamous, like I said before, not her #1 material but I like it. Some Mariah's songs are slow burner for me. For example, Till The End Of Time, Long Ago and some tracks from Charmbracelet, MoIA and most tracks from MIAMTEC. Still buying Mariah's music from the CBS logo on her cassette era untill now. My point is - today you might hate Infamous but I believe along the way we will discover new things hidden somewhere.

Dear Sheila, I don't judge those who use make up, but in my case is just a healthy lifestyle, and my main secret, lots of vitamin c and water. Infamous (66,938)
by Manny from U.S.
| |

Since the first time I heard the song, it reminded me of another one. I couldn't pin point it until today. I woke up and I was laying in bed and it hit me. It reminds me of Avril Lavigne's Complicated. The beginning of both songs sounds similar. The melody of the first verse sound alike. Does anyone think that or am I off? I think Infamous is okay. I think I just enjoy it because it's new vocals from Mariah. I don't think she intended this for a single.

Infamous update (66,937)
by Terna from Nigeria
| |

|
At first listen it really wasn't a wow moment but the song is a grower. Mariah's parts are most memorable and I've actually been humming or singing little parts of it all day, today which is weird for a song I would say doesn't have a distinct melody line at all. What an outcry this song has caused for all the wrong reasons it's famous negatively. It sure lives up to its title - Infamous.

Whether she personally dislikes Mariah (for whatever reason) was irrelevant to the question she was asked in the interview, so it was still a very unnecessary comment. And I'm sure many don't like her either with her obnoxious, vulgar, crass antics.
