Breakdown and The Roof. An argument could be made for every song on Butterfly. Vanishing. This is hard.

I agree. I don't get how she can work with Rodney and still produce something so similar to her stuff with JD (YME). She needs to leave her comfort zone. As good as the duplicates are, they will never be better than the originals.

I think one of them is definitely Joy Ride. It's not in my top 10 either but everytime I listen to it I start wondering why I don't listen to it more often. There's so much detail in the music and her voice. My favourite moment is when she slips into falsetto at the end of the "we found love" belt. Goosebumps.

I have forgotten what Mariah looks like with her skull positioned on her neck properly. My theory is there is a giant magnet above her head and her cheek implants contain metal. How her struggle to keep her head in the upright position must be hurting. I feel a ballad coming on. On a serious note, somebody really needs to tell her to start photographing like she used to - like a normal human being. Has she gone so bonkers? Mariah Photography for Dummies: Smile like an escapee (mouth and eyes wider than humanly possible), tilt skull so far to side that seasickness sets in, hand on hip like I'm-a-little-teapot-short-and-stout). Remember when Mariah wasn't absurd? No, I don't either.

Ihre Liste ist gut. Dennis hat auch eine gute Auswahl, aber ich kann nicht Niederländisch sprechen. ["Jouw lijst is goed. Dennis heeft ook een goede selectie, maar ik spreek geen Nederlands."] Essentially, everyone here needs to cheer the fick up. Mariah's in front of you for 5 songs and everyone wants her to sing 5 songs designed to make you cry or comfort you when hurting. Woah, there, horse, back up. We missed Partyville and now we're stuck in Suicide City. Why not have a party and a sing-along and a dance? And I'm supposed to be the bloody miserable one. The Crying of The Lambs, me thinks.

Lyrically, Side Effects is Mariah at her most vulnerable. Stylistically, Breakdown deserves credit for its brilliance.

It is Rodney and Esther Dean. She probably worked with JD etc. because she could bring them to her on tour and vacation. I think she is just back to what works for her too. The music for the first episode of Empire was just ok and it is also written to fit the context of the show as well as to be a single, perhaps working with her normal team was designed to write a song more for her than the show. I just hope she sings more and is not a feature like she was on Beautiful.

My excitement died down a bit when I read that her new single is business as usual. I don't care if she works with Dupri and Cox but those collaborations shouldn't be singles. However, with Neyo (who seems to have hit the same wall Mariah hit creatively) and Rodney (who produces You're Mine) being the other choices maybe it was a smart move. Hoping for the best.

Did she? I remember her saying that she makes her own mixture of products that she uses as skin care. She said she mixes a lot of stuff together to keep her skin in good condition. Then she went on to say that she might consider selling her mixture in the future. She might have talked about the spray tan, I can't remember. Her TEOM tan was fine, the TAOM tan was orange though.

It better be good. One thing's cemented, though. When it comes to producers, Mariah will always go for familiarity over risk. I guess she has this, "if it ain't broke don't fix it" mantra. Sure, nothing is broke, but Mariah, just so you know, othe producers exist too. This conscious decision to stay in your comfort zone is just killing creativity and possibly even your social skills. When are you ever gonna get out of this box that has confined you since 2005?

During TEOM era and TAOM tour wasn't she using a spray made of gold? Wasn't she also planning to release it or something?

Also her hair is on point at the minute. It looks so much like it did in 1997 where she still had her natural brown but with golden highlights.

1) AYNAF (C&C club mix) full version - It forever lifts my spirits. 2) The Roof - It's a must. Period. 3) Where Are You Christmas - I need to hear her version of this. 4) Side Effects - So different from her. Real. 5) Looking In - Without the cracked ribs and arm sling Jeff, picking just 5 was very difficult.

Ribbon is indeed brilliant and was my fave on Memoirs upon first listen. It is my most played track from the album. I think Fantasy is her most underrated though, especially the remix, as it completely changed the shape of music to come ever since. It is literally up there with "Rock Around the Clock" for how much it ushered in a new sound and changed the landscape of pop music. Only a handful of critics have ever picked up on its importance and sadly it probably won't be until long after we're all dead and buried that Mariah and the song get the recognition it so deserves. The same came really be said for Vision Of Love, in that it popularised the melismic singing style and has affected and influenced every female R&B singer since. Girls don't try to sing in a straightforward fashion like Karen Carpenter anymore, they go all out with trills and licks like Mariah did. The only song of hers that gets its dues is AIWFCIY, and rightly so. A genius song. I could write for days about it.

Ribbon. People just don't understand how much it stands out in her catalog. Even worse, they take it for granted because by the time it came out, a lot were already sick of her hip-hop influenced songs. I swear it must have only been brought up in this board 4 times in the past 3 years, and 2 of them was probably because I posted about it. A lot of tracks from 2013-2015 that were radio hits have this vibe similar to it. The fact that it came out at least 4 years prior proves that Mariah has good ideas, they just sometimes come too early (Glitter, anyone?). Which also means she is actually quite the visionary - a very underrated one at that.

It's not all about flaunting the body. It's about leaving something to the imagination, which in her case, there's little to be left anyway because I feel like she has showed more skin in 2016 than all the 25 years that came before combined. That loose white dress is gorgeous on her. This proves that sexy doesn't have to be synonymous with skin-tight or skimpy.

Empire song update (66,613)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|

So Mariah's song in Empire is produced by Mariah, JD and Brian M. Cox. While I really enjoy Mariah's collaborations with JD, I don't get why she didn't work with the producers working on Empire's music. I think it's Rodney Jerkins and Ne-Yo now. I would have loved a Timbaland track but I heard he won't be coming back for Season 3. Ah well, we'll see what we get in 1 week. I'm excited.

The 24K gold spray tan was for the "Triumphant" video. The TEOM era tan was still fine, although I much rather prefer her to be just her natural self. I think it makes her look much younger. Her #Beautiful era tan was good too. But ya the TEOM era one was still fine but she surely isn't using what she did back then because every time she got tan recently it's straight up orange and splotchy. Haha it baffles me with all the money Mariah still chooses the worst tan and clothes. Like look at how orange they make her. This is another example. Compare it to this where she is in her natural tone and she looks much more radiant and younger.
