I agree Musicfanj. The issue here is not about restricting her to go half-nude or wearing bras etc. It's about presenting herself with class. She can go as nude as she want but at least have some class while doing that. Those women are revealing and sexy but not in the cheap way. Mariah was like that before, but now? It's tasteless.

Happy 19 birthday to a masterpiece of artistic expression. Not only did Mariah give us her heart and soul she gave us a woman on her own term and even though it was a huge gamble after the success of Daydream she was willing to take the risk and it worked. She gave us her signature Mariah anthems with "Close my eyes", "Butterfly", and "Outside" but she also gave us a further exploration of her latest creation the hip pop formula that is widely popular today with "Breakdown", "The roof", "Honey", and she also took us a magical where she was to showcase her talent as a songwriter and producer only to cerment her place as a true iconic legend. Happy birthday Butterfly you are truly one in a million.

Of course Giovanni, that's the goal. Time to collect more Grammys that she deserves a long long time ago.

Mariah's s sex appeal was always obvious. However, Tommy and the other execs at Columbia wanted to market her as the girl next door so they downplayed it. Once she divorced Tommy she was free to be herself.

1. I think it's because Mariah doesn't need to sell herself with sexinesss. She has so much talent and a voice you can't compare with Jennifer, Britney and Janet. It's ridiculous. Those three "singers" only can dance and be sexy. To be fair, I like Janet's voice a lot. She's a Rnb queen who influenced a lot. 2. Mariah was always classy for such a long time. And even when she started to show more it was sexy but with style. This isn't comparable with the latest instagram pics and some other things. As somebody mentioned on this board Mariah named herself Mary Poppins. She had something mysterious and still has, I have never seen from any other artist. It is this image from an "imperfect angel". Imperfect but an angel.

Janet Jackson was not an official sex goddess until the release of the Janet CD. She was fully clothed in black until she released [...]. Mariah even being close to 50 does deserve the right to be sexy and provocative.

A double standard my a**. Mariah has always been sexy without coming off as desperate or trying too hard. Which is what she has been giving us this past year. Mariah can be sexy, just not over the top. This is a woman who is approaching 50. She's never had to rely on sexiness or sell sex because unlike Britney and Jennifer Lopez Mariah has talent. But her recent pictures have been a hot mess. They're not a good look for her at all.

J. Lo got that nic name for her notorious man hopping lol. I don't think I've ever heard the media clown her about her attire though. Besides the infamous Grammy dress she's usually on point.

I couldn't agree more it seems like other stars can have a sexy era but Mariah can't it does seem like we hold her to a different standard which isn't fair. So she lost some weight and want to flaunt it. I say there is nothing wrong with that in my opinion I think she does it tastefully look at Madonna she had a sex book back in the day and people thought it was cool. We do hold Mariah to a different standard which is not right. By the way I am excited for the new music and I am one who will be the first I in line to buy. I am Mariah's ride or die lamb.

Next album suggestions (66,337)
by Malcolm from Asia

So Lady Gaga is back and I think this is her most personal album to date. I really commend her artistry, she's one of the few young artists today that really taking their craft seriously. I can't get enough with her album cover, it's so simple yet beautiful. I want that type of cover for Mariah's next album, a mild tone, simple and doesn't have too much edit and color. More natural, the better. I'm tired of the redundant poses on her albums, she must try something new and low key because it will help her gain a wide-range of consumers. And if she will keep it natural, the photoshop bashing and accusations will vanish. But based on what I'm seeing now, I guess I'm reaching for the stars here. But the important is, either the boobies will once again be featured or not, she must hire creatively-great graphic artists for her next album that can be included to the "best album covers of 2017".

This has less to do about an unfair "double standard" and more because she has a different backstory. Unlike J.Lo, Janet and Brit who have established themselves as sex symbols very early on in their career, Mariah, on the other hand, took a decade to gradually ease into a full blown sexy image during the Glitter era. It's not that Mariah isn't sexy, or isn't as sexy as those three. It's also not that a sexy image doesn't suit her, or that she doesn't have the right to express her sexy side as much as they do. It's the fact that her more recent antics seem forced and unnatural. Just look at how most of her recent pictures and outfits come across. There's an awkwardness there that translates as "trying too hard". So yeah, maybe we hold her to a different standard - a higher one she mostly set on her own through the years. She isn't a sex symbol. She's a sexy singer who doesn't have to do much to be sexy. There's a difference. This is not about establishing what she can or cannot do. It's about not breaking character with the image she has cultivated over the quarter of a century - because that's what her fans cherish and know her for - an extremely beautiful, talented, one-of-a-kind woman who also happens to have this mystery about her that is sexy. Now more than ever, we should appreciate how important reconnecting with her fans is because if it isn't obvious enough, it doesn't seem like she has a lot left who are actually supporting her. And these bad pics definitely aren't helping - I mean, just look at the posts on this board. Wow, just realized I used "sexy" 9 times.

Yes Mariah gets and deserves a double standard because Mariah is better than those women, and she has the undeniable talent to back it up, while those women has to use gimics to futher there careers. Not saying she cant be sexy but she shouldn't have to sacrifice class for it. She hadn't in the past and she shouldn't have to do it now.

People have had issues with the oversexualized images of the women you named. I know for a fact Britney and Janet got a lot of flack for it. They've all had their moments where they went beyond sexy and were straight trashy. They also got called out alot for doing so. So no I don't believe Mariah is being held to a different standard. She's being treated no different than the other ladies when they went through their oversexed kitten stage.

Perhaps because she held herself to a different standard. I don't check for those other ladies, but they get a lot of flack online too during awards shows or other trending events. But if you like it, then cool, many people are saying "yass queen", so why worry about those who don't at this moment in time? And Mariah is the one giving mixed signals, making many people wonder "are you ok Mimi?" I forgot, but early on one of the others' nick name was "JHo" and Brittany is lost in space for over a decade now and living under conservertorship, so maybe she gets sympathy for that alone. Lol.

Glitter debacle (66,330)
by B from USA
| |

Tommy sabotaged the Glitter era. Mariah was going to release the original Loverboy with the Firecraker sample as the first single and If We as the second. Glitter being a Columbia film allowed him access to the dailies and to the soundtrack. He knew Mariah had two massive hits on her hands. Knowing so he had Jennifer license the Firecracker sample and had Cory Rooney (who had worked with Mariah before) write the the album version of I'm Real. He probably played Corey the original version of Loverboy and said write Jennifer a song just like this. We all know Tommy called Ja and Irv and had them ripoff If We for the I'm Real remix. Ashanti unknowingly played a part in this. She sang the lead vocals on the demo versions of each song for Jenny to emulate. They weaved her vocals with Jennifer's. If you listen closely to these songs and the Ain't It Funny remix you can her Ashanti's vocals. She was not only exhausted from working on two movies, a soundtrack, and the end of her relationship with Luis. Obviously whoever stole her ideas and or concepts this time is a bigger star than Jennifer. I bet she was planning a surprise release for MIAMTEC but Beyonce beat her to it. The only other artist I think of is Alaniss Morisette. She re-released Jagged Little Pill with demos, new liner notes, and a live disc of her of her concerts (supposedly it also includes a DVD of the music videos released to promote the album).

Does Mariah get a double-standard? (66,329)

It's ok for Jennifer Lopez, Britney Spears, Janet jackson to have a "sexy" era. To pose half nude or in a bra/panties pic and it's ok. But Mariah, it's not ok. Every women is due a sexual revolution, right? Why does everyone put Mariah through hell for posing sexy like Jennifer/Janet/Brit? Just does not seem right. Why do we hold Mariah to a different standard than those other ladies?

I'm pretty sure she doesn't. Mariah has had love for Agent Provocateur for ages now. I clearly remember her talking about their shoes back in the cribs episode where she said she has them in every color. The "slippers" according to Mariah hahah which were those delicate stilettos with matching pom poms. Then she even gifted Ellen some stuff from it back when she went there long time back.

I think we might start hearing about her faith again soon. Hopefully. I noticed she had a little cross on her neck on the pic with Rocky. Whatever is going on, I hope she gets back to some authenticity vs. all the stunts. Or at least pick better stunts with her and her children's well being in mind.
