DFAU (57,371)

Can we just take a moment and fangirl over how gorgeous MC looked in the music video? I think she looked more beautiful in DFAU video than WBT, which is saying a lot since WBT is one of my top favourite videos. But in every scene of DFAU Mariah looked amazing. The shots of her laying with her hair fanned out is sexy yet innocent, the Marilyn homage scene hair is so effortlessly sexy. She looks adorable in the scene of her sitting on the dude's lap in the car. What I love most about the video is that it's sexy and sweet without looking like she is trying too hard and also that along with the beautiful shots there is a subtle storyline so it's not just glamour shots.

She may have to do any duet live, however. And the bigger the artist, the less forgiving they would be for lip-syncing. Miguel would go with it. Anyone bigger would not.

I was listening to Angie Lee's "Plastic doll song" and the beginning of the song is similar to Loverboy. Mariah's knowledge in music is so deep, how cute. Now she needs to do a record with Drake to go up again sad but true, anyway it could be hot dont you think? She has the money to pay anyone, I wish this happens because I don't think she is releasing the so called big record MC has and Jermaine said once if she released it would be huge on the radio.

You know Mimi, talking about big budget movies I still wonder why it was Demi Lovato who sang "Let it go" rather than Mariah. I don't have anything against Lovato, she seems to be a darling girl but her voice sounded weak and limited in that song, Mariah voice is perfect for such music, she would have blown that song away. Eyelashes would have fallen and tears would have been dried with Mariah's powerful vocals. I still ask why, why, why haha.

The only reason I can find for her song "Almost home" not being more successful is because the movie did bad from the beginning. I watched it and couldn't finish it, it was a snoozefest, no loveable characters, poor CGI and the performance by some of the actors was awful but who can blame them, the dialogues were uninteresting. The first time I heard the song I wasn't too hooked but by the second time I loved it, loved the lyrics and the way Mariah built the song to end in such powerful notes. It was a strong song that soon went forgotten thanks to the bad reviews of the movie and its quick demise. Disney has really been failing with all the remakes, none of its current remade characters have any charisma, Maleficent was sligtly saved by Angelina Jolie and Cinderella for the beautiful set and effects. If they truly make The Little Mermaid I would love it if they didn't fail the casting this time. I would love Mariah music for it but since she already contributed for one of the movies I don't think she would be called again. "Almost home" is a great tune, one of my favorites, most people who heard the song loved it, poor promo doesn't take away how good the song truly is in my opinion. I wasn't sure about the video and still not convinced.

Lee TS, I think the French maid-turned broom would have been a better fit for Mariah. The role of the pot would require someone short and stout. The French maid-broom on the other hand is slightly sexy. Plus Mariah has already nailed the French maid look on Ellen, haha. Also about the Little Mermaid idea, even if Mariah agreed to play Ursula, she would never (all caps) play Ursula to Ariana's Ariel. Frankly I wouldn't want her to play Ariana's villain. But playing Ursula would be a neat idea because it's so different from who she is.

The Little Mermaid (57,362)
by Lee TS from USA

Ok with all these Disney talks I had to post this. I'm not even trying to make jokes but if they ever remake The Little Mermaid, Mariah would be the perfect Ursula. I can totally see Mariah reinventing the role with changing her voice, being deliciously wicked, and oh the dramatics. That would be totally awesome. And if she has achieve some sort of longevity by then, Ariana would be the perfect Ariel. I can totally picture her in that role and she would do "Part Of Your World" justice. But knowing Mariah, she would probably want to be Ariel herself. Oh well just a hopeful dream.

As much as I would love for this to happen, I don't think it will. I remember in early 2000s (possibly for Glitter) Mariah saying she'd love to duet with George and that she's always loved his music. George never returned the sentiment. I don't think there's any bad blood between them though. George was very sweet when he complimented Mariah for her version of One More Try.

Yes she needs to hop on a huge movie and sing the theme song. OZ didn't really work to her favor but it was a cute moment. Bond movies, I guess you guys aren't talking about Double O Soul that she was suppose to do with Chris Tucker. Maybe M can get a small role in Beauty, she can play the teapot, how cute would that be? Lol I'm only kidding haha. I would have loved if she played the evil stepmother in Cinderella but Cate Blanchet was so brilliant in that role. Or if she had a small role in Into The Woods. Anyways, she needs to play ugly on Empire because once she's all glam up I only see Mariah Carey.

Luis Miguel and After Tonight (57,359)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
Luis Miguel is an exceptional singer. He's been singing since he was 11 years old. Pairing him with Mariah wouldn't have been like it was pairing Whitney Houston with Enrique Iglesias, the man can sing, he's sold 100 million records, a great feat for a non-English singer. Marc Anthony is another power vocalist, I always wished for Mariah to duet with him, he ate Jessica Simpsom alive on "There You Were", such a powerful voice without straining. The fact that some voices don't blend well together or that one of the parties doesn't like the final outcome, doesn't necessarily mean either one is better than the other. Mariah stated that Luis Miguel didn't like the outcome, and that he ripped the tape apart, and that she didn't have time to go back and do other takes because as we already know "Rainbow" was a "get me out of this label" album. I've always loved Luis Miguel's music as an adult, I don't like him as a person though, but credit where credit is due.

It was probably after Merry Christmas was released or right before. Based upon the set decoration that only changed with the current season at that time and the hair style Mariah had most of her performances that year, I would guess November or December of 1994. I was only 1 and a half but am the best investigator of these types of things. Haha.

I love Tori Kelly's Should've Been Us. She has said she was influenced by Mariah and when you listen to her music the influence is obvious. I believe After Tonight was written in a key too high for Miguel and they didn't have time to rewrite it or rearrange it so it was scrapped. I remember reading Luis was so upset with the results that he cut the tape up and mailed it to David Foster.

I believe she was being considered for a role as one of the Bond girls. I was in 1997 or 1998. I think people assumed the Honey video was her audition. I think it was a rumor. She was also supposed to be a villianess in Rocky and Bullwinkle and a boxing coach in Sweet Science. I remember her saying Steven Spielberg was interested in casting her in a movie and she didn't even find out about the offer until after the divorce. Glitter isn't as bad as some critics say. I'm not saying it's an Oscar worthy performance or film but it's enjoyable. It's now considered a cult classic. The soundtrack was ahead of the times or is it ahead of its time? Lead The Way is one of Mariah's best ballads, that note is spine tingling. It deserved an Oscar nomination for Best Original Song.

I love that performance. It was from December 1991. Lots of people say it was later due to its appearance on Merry Christmas in 1994. But, the hairstyle is that of the "Can't Let Go" video, which was out in late 1991. In Christmas 1994 when promoting Merry Christmas her hair was longer and curly and consistent throughout. Also, Billy T Scott is conducting the choir. He worked as one of Mariah's backing singers for the first couple of years but they never worked again after the Emotions era. Also, as we all know, the Merry Christmas version is interporlated with "Gloria (In Excelsis Deo)" and is a completely different arrangement.

Mariah/Disney (57,351)
by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada

It's so funny that the Beauty & The Beast soundtrack was mentioned. We all know how much MC loves Disney, and frankly it doesn't feel like the Holiday's unless Mariah performs at Disney on Christmas Day. We've all been talking about Empire, excited for that. I also think it would be so cool if Mariah did a spot on ABC's Once Upon A Time. If you don't know the show, it was created by the same people behind Lost and each character has a "real world identity" as well as a backstory rooted in classic fairytales. It's fun, clever and really well written. I think it would be cool to see Mariah playing a fairytale character the way this show blends both worlds. Not saying it will actually happen, but how fun would that be?

Soundtrack (57,348)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter

Mariah, if you are reading this, can we get your amazing voice on the soundtrack of some big budget movies? Please? Beauty And The Beast remake will be a huge budget one next year, so I would love for Mariah to have one of the major songs in the soundtrack like Lana Del Rey in "Maleficent". Also I am sure there are plenty more big budgets coming out (but I can't remember any names right now) so she can get a song on those. Bond soundtracks usually get a lot of press but I don't know when the next Bond movie after "Spectre" is going to be so I don't wanna wait that long. Speaking of Bond movies, do any of you remember this rumor about Mariah being considered for a Bond film a long time back? Like for a role not a song. How cool would that have been?

Re: Collaboration / The Elusive Chanteuse Show (57,347)

I want Mariah to collaborate with Amel Larrieux from Groove Theory. Amel produces and writes her solo music with her husband and I think they can make magic. Also I want her to do some records with this producers named R8dio (produced Travis Garland and Dumblonde) and Dem Jointz (produced some tracks on the Straight Outta Compton soundtrack as well as for Danity Kane and Dumblonde) and songwriter Candice Pillay (wrote some tracks on the Straight Outta Compton soundtrack, cowrote American Oxygen by Rihanna, wrote with Dumblonde for their album, and she has her own music). I was re-watching performances from Elusive Chanteuse Show and there were moments where Mariah had some amazing vocal moments. Watch this and skip to 4:55-5:05, 5:20-5:21 and 5:52-5:55.

Dream duet (57,346)

I am still wishing for a real deal duet from Mariah and George Michael. Come on Mariah you always loved George from years ago and you both can hit long beautiful notes with two of the most angelic vocal instruments I can think of. I would literally be in heaven if they did something together. Even if it was a Christmas song. The most recent Christmas classic songs are of course AIWFCIY and Last Christmas.

Some said that the Luis Miguel duet didn't work out well because their voices didn't blend well and Mariah's voice is too high for him. Idk. I would love to hear her having a Lauryn Hill-flavored song, maybe with Tori Kelly or something. Tori's a great songwriter and an awesome singer.

This is probably not the obvious choice but I would love for Mariah to collab with people in singer-songwriter arena like Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith, or Jason Mraz. Something that not only celebrates her vocal genius, but her song-writing lyrical brilliance. Don't know if it will happen, but it is fun to think about.

I would love a collab with someone very much "in" too, but Enrique Iglesias is an awful singer, that's why his music in English is overproduced and his voice has like a dozen layers of auto-tune and other things. He truly jumped to international fame thanks to all the features he has done, his music is catchy, I recall my cousin dying for him when we were teens and she would play his first album over and over nonstop. She didn't really care about his singing, she just thought he was too hot haha. It's a shame Luis Miguel is MCs ex-boy because he is pretty decent, he has a beautiful tone. I got hooked on this soap called "Triunfo de Amor" not too long ago and the opening theme was "Tres palabras" sang by Luis Miguel and it sounded great. Then again wasn't there a rumor MC and LM tried to do something together and their voices didn't match or they couldn't agree how to do it? I never knew if it was true, somewhere I even read people saying a duet was recorded but never to be released. I truly like Ricky Martin's voice and his attitude is always so positive, it is hard not to like him, I can see him doing a collab with MC, maybe give a bit of a latino flavor to one of her songs would be awesome. Robi Draco Rossa also creates beautiful music and has a very unique style.

I applaud this message. I come to MCA everyday and observe the interactions. I stopped commenting because I was tired of the back and forth. I made an exception today to applaud your constant defending of Mariah Carey. You are also open minded to Mariah Carey's foes. However I like the fact that you don't make her foes a priority for discussion all the time. I enjoy reading your posts always because I know it's going to reflect both sides and not be one sided. Your smart with class and I love that. Keep doing your thing because it takes alot of consistency and love for Mariah.
