5 Questions I'm dying to ask MC (56,719)
by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
| |
|
|
5. Which songs that you have written are you not particularly fond of today and why? 4. What do you consider your worst and greatest artistic/creative musical outputs? 3. What do you think about lip-synching being a common practice in the industry? 2. Would we ever hear you sing anything from Glitter in any of your future live performances, and why/why not? 1. Honestly, how has singing changed for you through the years in all aspects?

Out and about (56,718)
by Lee TS from USA

Love seeing her out and about attending all these fun events. But this latest Bazaar ensemble is a no for me. Don't get me wrong it's a very pretty dress and beautiful necklace. I'm not asking for the moon and stars here but Wilfredo what are you doing? Mariah literally looks like a PTA mom and housewife attending some local charity ball. This whole look from the hair to the necklace even to the shoes either ages her or shows her age. Can't help it but looking at all the other girls at the event, they were sleek and fashion forward. Oh well, Mariah's still pretty though. I hope one day she finally decides to wear something that isn't black.

Mimi, a crude and tactless person is best ignored. When one tries hard to be cool and funny, most of the time he or she fails.

So Mariah went to the HB event and she looked so good. I can't decide on whether I like the dress or not, but I have to say that she looks flawless in the pictures. Them boobies are out but it does not look bad here and look at that million dollar face. Mariah shining brighter than the diamonds around her neck. She looks so beautiful, I can't even.

Andrew, you get the chance of a lifetime to interview an artist you admire (or used to) and you will ask her questions that insult her or make fun of her? That's a little sad. I'd think that even if Mariah currently is not making the type of music you want, I would like to believe there was a time when she did, and given the chance to interview this person, is insulting her really the way to go?

Article: Mariah in 1990: critics loved her, thought she was white (56,711)
by Baby from Dreamville...Where There's No Beginning & There is No End
| |
|
|
I have a theory: The more (white bigoted) people who find out she isn't white and the more control over her own image she gained where she would beam with pride over her mixed heritage, especially the African-American part, the more likely they are to shun her. Mariah was always an R&B, Gospel and Soul-singer-songwriter, as most black artists are. It's only some people's perception of her that has changed and flip-flopped. Just look at her Grammy Awards 16 years apart: Best new Artist and Pop Vocal for Vision Of Love. VOL is a Gospel/R&B/Soul record. That's just a fact. It's not Pop. Pop is just another euphemism for what appeals to the greater white audience. And then came the Grammy drought, to the point where she was snubbed entirely in 1996 after delivering two massive diamond albums, Daydream in particular with its record breaking Billboard chart successes. Never mind how the stellar Butterfly was ignored even though it was clearly her best musical effort. Fast forward to 2006 and she finally gets to add three Grammies to her first two and they are all in the R&B category. It literally took 16 years for her to even be recognised and awarded by her genre peers. That's very strange no matter how you look at it for an artist of Mariah's calibre. You would think she hadn't done anything significant between her debut and TEOM. MIAMTEC was a #1 album on the R&B charts because that's her base. She will always do well there. So when certain posters go on and on about how Mariah needs to switch musical genres and work with people who have nothing to do with black music, when she's been an R&B artist her whole life, I find it interesting. Very interesting. My 2ยข.

Question #6 (56,710)
by Ardis Logic from Earth
| |
|
|
It's really hard to stick to only 5 questions. #6 Do you identify with the "Classic Mariah" at all, or is she just a distant memory? PS. Just a little confession: I fucking love Lana Del Ray, she is my new obsession. I can't believe that I am saying this, but I am like really obsessed with her, more than Mariah, at the moment. Does that make me a horrible lamb? If you love. Lana too let me know.

I actually thought Valentine was Tommy. He went by that name (T.D. Valentine) in the 60's when he was a recording artist for CBS.

I'm sorry but I had to chuckle when you put hair extensions as a tough question. Hilarious. A black woman and her hair. Well in Mariah's case, the half blackness in her.

Empire white person (56,707)
by Lee TS from USA
| |
|

Going off memory one of the character's wife is white, or do you mean like a guest starring role? Because I believe Courtney Love is white and she was in the first season. Becky G is not white but she's guest starring this upcoming season. So how does Mariah answer that question? Swerve.

Mariah in Jimmy Fallon (56,706)
by LC from USA
| |

Curious, does anybody happen to have a link or saved file of Mariah on Jimmy Fallon in 2013? I think it was early 2013, anyway, where she was wearing the biker leather jacket and skirt. I've been searching for it on YouTube and Dailymotion and I can't find it anywhere. If anyone needs anymore clarification, it's the one where she plays champagne pong with Jimmy. Thanks guys.

Race (56,705)
by enwar00 from usa

Why are people so obsessed with race? That new Billboard article was annoying to me. What's the purpose of pointing out that people thought MC was white 25 years ago? Why does that matter anymore? But luckily she's gonna be the first white person on Empire right?

When she's singing "little sister and little brother", I believe she's taking about Tommy's kids. I recall she mentioned it in an interview long ago that they became really close.

Underneath The Stars video (56,701)
by enwar00 from usa
| |
|
|
Wasn't it just a concert or performance video filmed at one of her Daydream shows? That's what I always thought, similar to Forever or something. Too bad they didn't film an actual video to that song, being that it was so descriptive and could have had a pretty setting and storyline. Almost like the cover of the single come to life. That's one of my fave single covers of hers.

5 Questions (really 10) (56,700)
by Randy from USA
| |
|
|
Amazing topic but I would have to go tough and light: Tough questions: 1. What happened to your high full voice notes starting in 1997? 2. Why do you continuously sing songs on wax with high full voice notes that you cannot replicate live? 3. You are 45 years old, when will you stop collaborating with younger hip hop artists? 4. How long is your natural hair without extentions? 5. If you claim to be over the Tommy era of self-consciousness, why do you still claim to have a good side and need good lighting?
Light questions 1. Who is dandelion, little sister and little brother in Petals? 2. Will we ever hear the song "Crave"? 3. You said you would remake "My Favorite Things" and put it on a Christmas album, you never put it on Merry Christmas II You, will we ever get to hear it? 4. Glitter is a masterpiece, were you told by your management to dismiss it as a soundtrack and a concept record during your Charmbracelet promotional tour because it didn't sell? Or do you not stand behind the record? 5. What would it take for you to collaborate with Walter A or Ben Marguilies again?

Great great topic. 1) What song are you most proud of vocally? 2) What song are you most proud of lyrically? 3) We are now in the generation of many up and coming female singers/artists in general list you as a major influence, how does it feel to see your influence in today's music? 4) If you could release any unreleased song from your private vault of music, what song would it be and can you sing a bit of the melody? 5) Will you get into more writing/producing for other artist in the future?

1. Why continue to airbrush your photos when nobody believes it and mock you for it anyway? 2. WTF is up with Infinity? 3. Why are you starting to guest on so many of your own songs? 4. How does it feel being the first white person to have any kind of role in Empire? 5. Will you come to my birthday party? There'll be cake.

Wow B your set of questions are fire. I want to know the answers to those definitely. Especially the tea on who stole the ideas and what the idea was. And oh my gosh do I want to know what she thought of L.A.'s comments. It must have stung at least a little since the comment was outright rude.

Asking MC 5 interview questions (56,695)
by Warrior Butterfly from USA
| |
|
|
1. Some of your classic concerts have been released to DVD format such as the The First Vision and Here Is Mariah Carey. Would you ever consider the Butterfly tour or Music Box tour? Will you release or consider releasing The Elusive Chanteuses Show or your Las Vegas residency for those that were unable to attend? 2. Now that you're back with Sony, congratulations. Is there a chance to get in the Mariah vault and finding some hidden gems or b-sides as one collection or an EP? Would we ever get a chance to hear the song "Crave"? 3. Would you peripatetic [sic] in MTV Unplugged 2.0 or Storytellers? Discussing the songs, the songs you did then and song you have now. 4. What do you think or feel when a fan or artist says that they grew up with you, that you are the soundtrack of their life? 5. Christmas is coming and rumors of Merry Christmas being re-released, can we expect excerpts or an expatiation from your fan favorite St. John the Divine performance in 1994 such as an EP or bonus holiday concert mini DVD? 6. What Mariah song do you wish a fan heard that is non-mainstream, non-No 1 single that excludes UNTS, Butterfly and Breakdown? What song do you sit on and wish man I wish the lambs would really list it?

Re: God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen (56,675) (56,694)

Using Mariah's Vevo version around mark 0:33 the vocals become more layered. The word "Joy" 0:35 is played with a bit more as a back ground vocal. Section 1:01 - 1:04 "tidings of comfort and joy" there is something sung in lower key underneath it. I wanna say she's singing "Christ is born", but I can really make it out. The original '94 release was more straight in my opinion, not much layering if any. Hope this help lamb.
