Re: Mariah vs Beyonce (59,048) (59,057) by Philipp from Switzerland
I like Beyoncé and I think she's a great performer and I like most of her songs. But I also must admit, that I feel like she's often covering her own songs. She has her formula and sticks with it. I feel like most of her uptempo songs are just a rip-off from Crazy In Love.

Another thought (59,056) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
If Adele couldn't break Mariah's record even after the world went crazy for "Hello" and the industry's sweetheart Queen Bey couldn't get a #1 from her uber successful self-titled album, and industry's other sweetheart Taylor Swift couldn't get a long running #1 then really who can stand against Mariah? This woman basically is a music industry powerhouse and yet people try to make it seem like Mariah as a singer and writer has no impact or contribution to the industry. If maintaining the longest running single for over 20 years, having the #1 Christmas song every year (a 21 year old song) and having any new singer who can hit a high note being labelled "the next Mariah" (and no one else mind you, we hardly hear new singers being compared to anyone else) is the definition of an irrelevant career, then boy do I wish to have an irrelevant career.

Re: One Sweet Day (59,054) (59,055) by Seth M from South Africa
I agree. It is also not one of my favourites but the song is timeless and the vocals are heavanly. It will take a very huge song to break that record and they don'take songs like that these days. Mariah also has 14 weeks at number 1 for We Belong Together and I knew that Adele would not break Mariah's record as I have previously mentioned on this board.

One Sweet Day (59,054) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
That record is so impressive, I can't even. I mean 4 months atop the hot 100, come on. It's surprising. I like OSD but it's definitely not one of my favorite MC songs, neither is it my top 5 #1's from MC. The song is sweet, and it gets me emotional sometimes, thinking about a lost loved one, but I have to say it didn't age well as her other songs. I don't even think it's a fan favorite. Of course Boyz II Men's popularity at that time contributed as much to the success as Mariah's. But still it surprises me that this song stayed on #1 for so long because even Whitney and Mariah (2 of the biggest singers) couldn't get close. It's been over 20 years and still no one touched its record. Anyways, just because the song isn't my favorite doesn't mean I don't have a panic attack every time a new song crosses the "10 weeks at #1" mark and I start getting anxious, not relaxing until someone comes to throw them out. Lol too mean? Sorry.

Re: Mariah vs Beyonce (59,048) (59,053) by Malcolm from Asia
I wish the public sees that on her Mandy. But honestly, I think everyone is more likely seeing or imposing that "self-centered" attitude with Mariah. I don't think Beyonce is self-centered in real life, she is more like genuine person but wants the control in everything she does. I agree with Giovanni, even though I'm a fan of hers, like she and Mariah are my ultimate favorites. I must say, Bey is a little bit overrated and not the "best singer of this generation". If I will categorize them, Mariah is more like "the best artist of her generation" and Beyonce is like "the best performer/entertainer of her generation". And if they will have a vocal battle, I think they will tied haha. Their voices are so different from each other so it's hard to choose I guess. But, if she or other singers today will have that battle in the 90's, definitely Mariah will win. I think it's safe to say that Ms. Mariah Carey really owned 1990s.

Adele's reign is over (59,052) by 123 from USA
Justin dethroned her after ten weeks for all of you people who actually believed this would go on much longer. Hopefully some of you can sleep now. Lol.

A new sound is a must (59,051) by Cgee54 from Usa
I would love for Mariah to do a concept album and let her emotions do the talking just like in jazz. Billie Holiday didn't have a stellar voice but she let her experiences and her phrasing do all the talking. I would love for Mariah either A) do an album like Miguel, abstract in sound but solid in vocal melodies or B) produce and write an album blending different melodies driven from jazz, r&b, and soul and modernize these sounds to make a new sound. I think Mariah should stay away from pop and urban music and produce work that has substance.

Re: Mariah vs Beyonce (59,045) (59,049) by B from USA
Easily. I was reading an article on Billboard article earlier that said Bey has a four octave range and I said to myself since when, lol. I've been a fan of B since Destiny's Child's first album and No, No, No but she's not the best singer of her generation. She can sing but her voice isn't a once in a generation type of thing.

Re: Mariah vs Beyonce (59,045) (59,048) by JAXGH from United States
I remember a friend saying that Mariah in the 90's is better. Which I understand because Mariah owned 90s and he really doesn't pay attention to Mimi closely. Frankly, I think Beyonce is better live. But in studio, Mariah still does miles better. I think Beyonce just have more relatable songs and are easier to sing along to. She's the typical self obsessed girl (I'm queen, I run this, I'm the number one diva in the game, I'm a grown woman). If you really look closely, Beyonce is pretty much what most girls really are inside, conceited and self-centered. All about being "flawless". And she knows most women relate to it so she just goes for it. Now I actually understand why Mariah never collaborated with her. She's really full of herself lmao. But it's also a product of always aiming to be the "best" since she was the leader of DC. People expected that she was the most successful of out the 3. I admire Mariah so much more now. She never once ever bragged about being the best. Or never became arrogant. The most self-centered line probably is "I bet she can't do it like me, she'll never be MC" which isn't that bad. At all.

Hallmark, recent happenings and so on (59,047) by Dustbin from USA
I think the Hallmark movie deal can be great if she sticks to not acting in the movies. I agree with acting in big Hollywood movies, but M needs direction and the right role. When she has control like in music videos she just wants to look pretty. No hate, we all do that via selfies lol. But we don't want to see Mariah being Mariah in movies, it translates bad. Using Hallmark as a platform for marketing Christmas music would be A+. Using her celebrity to get some B actors into Christmas movies that use her Christmas music would be great. I think Mariah would have some really corny/fairy tale ideas that would be perfect for Hallmark. Mariah is looking really great lately. She does seem to be happy, and I don't mind "Stella" or the hashtags. If she is planning an album, I am just praying for her voice and hearing Mariah's emotion. She has a lot of heartbreak in her life and passion, we don't need to hear over manipulated vocals. We just need to hear her sing her heart out. Live. An album like Mary J's London Sessions would be bomb for M. Just some thoughts. Happy New year you aall. Sure wish I could login into to this site on my iPhone.

Mariah Vs Beyonce (59,046) by Ardis Logic from Earth
No disrespect to Beyoncé she is a great singer but, I will always be team Mariah. She has one of the most beautiful voices in the history of music. She is so fluid, smooth, and soulful. Here's a Bey vs MC video.

Mariah vs Beyonce (59,045) by Giovanni from USA
In my personal opinion, Beyonce is overrated. She can sing and give strong solid vocals. But I'm just not impressed with her. I also find her music bad. The reason I'm bringing her up is because many including some of my friends (of all races) think she's the best singer of this generation. My question to you all is, do you think Mariah can still win in a vocal battle with Beyonce?

Mimi L. (59,044) by Giovanni from USA
I agree. I'm not feeling the whole Hallmark movie projects. Mariah is way better than that channel. She should be directing or staring in real big budget movies.

Re: Hallmark (59,036) (59,043) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
I was hoping the Hallmark thing was a one-off deal where she fulfills her desire to make a cutesy Christmas movie and then over. I am not a big fan of the 3 movie deal idea but well I don't know the details. I wanted it to be a one-off deal because if Mariah continues starring in cheesy movies she will never be able to be taken seriously as an actress. I was hoping she would use her and James's contact to get in some big budget movies as an actress (in addition to getting a deal to have the main song of a big budget movie of course). If she really wants to take up acting (which she did), she should work with the right people. If she is not starring in the Hallmark movies and just working as a director, I would still ask her to reconsider it, because I don't want her to get chalked up as a cheesy low budget movie director. One step at a time Mimi. Conquer acting, directing can come later. You have a lot of time.

Justin (59,042) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
So Bieber finally dethroned Adele with "Sorry". We can all relax now, OSD's record is still intact hahah. I thought "Love Yourself" will be his next #1 because it has been a while that "Sorry" was at #2 to Adele's #1 on hot 100, while "Love Yourself" took #1 spot from Adele on the iTunes chart. But I am glad "Sorry" reached #1 because I really enjoy that song. Congrats Justin and the lambily hahah (we love everybody but we love our records more).

Easiest songs to sing (59,039) by Ardis Logic from Earth

Re: Lambily opinion: Mariah's easiest song? (59,025) (59,038) by Lara from Middle East
I though Always Be My Baby was easy to sing untill I've tried it in a karaoke. Wow that sounded so different from singing it in the car, especially when you try to concentrate not to make the same hand movements lol. I guess if you have some skills, Hero is relatively easy (I think this is why most people chose to cover it) or Prisoner if you choose one of her unknown gems.

Andrew, I'm not talking about Mariah's performance. Her film was a ratings success for Hallmark. If the film hadn't been a success for the network they wouldn't have hired her to direct three more films. Just saying.

X-Girlfriend and Petals are fairly easy to sing. A more fun (and doable) one is I'm That Chick. I also like trying Migrate. It's a lot of fun.

I find TMB and WBT quite difficult to sing along, because she sings so fast. DFAU I think is not so difficult to sing along (except the end).
