Interesting theory. It's often forgotten that the songs in MIAMTEC were written and recorded sporadically within the last 4 years, if not even more. Most, if not all, of the sweet, lovey-dovey stuff were possibly written during the happiest times of Mariah and Nick's marriage. The sad songs that point to Nick were most likely written during some of the lowest points of their relationship. While it's less likely that Mariah's sequencing is based on the chronological order of the instances the songs are referring to, she could've arranged them as such to chronicle a normal relationship's ups and downs not just to tell a coherent story, but to make it more relatable to more people as well. She also continues her trend (since Charmbracelet) of placing a spiritual track to cap it all off on a hopeful note to represent some sort of epiphany that, through all the good and bad, God will always be there.

I love it, it's fun. It hasn't been too difficult to choose for me, and I so hope this tour comes to the U.S. Would anyone else choose these same three that I did? Side Effects Anytime You need a Friend Babydoll

"Make It Look Good" could get the same Grammy nod that "Mine Again" got in 2006 for Best Traditional R&B Performance. Anything with Grammy darling, Stevie Wonder is a positive. It did get a big push from Time Magazine.

I really think it's cool how Mariah has taken to Twitter to ask fans which songs they'd like to hear on the upcoming tour. I'm just a bit frustrated that her pairings make the choosing process very hard, at least for me. I mean My Saving Grace vs. Anytime You Need A Friend? Crybaby vs. Babydoll? Seriously? I know we can't always get what we want, but pitting such great songs against each other sure isn't helping. What's a lamb to do?

If I was gonna make a dream setlist, I'd leave out all the hits and stick to my fave non-single cuts or limited/non-commercial release tracks and rarities (ala Anti-Tour). Act 1: Ladies' Night / Sparks Fly Migrate I'm That Chick Cruise Control Want You Act 2: Smitten Make It Look Good Your Girl I Wish You Knew Act 3: First Date Fourth Of July Underneath The Stars Melt Away / Babydoll Act 4: In Too Deep Love Story Lead The Way Music Box Yours / Bliss Ribbon Act 5: Trouble In Paradise Alone In Love Faded Slipping Away After Tonight / I Only Wanted Butterfly Act 6: The Aftermath It's A Wrap / Forever The Wind And You Don't Remember Act 7: It Gets Lonely At The Top Meteorite Looking In / Twister Languishing / Outside Act 8: Gaining Back My Faith My Saving Grace / Heavenly Fly Like A Bird Rainbow Interlude Act 7: Falling Back Into Old Habits Do You Think Of Me When I Feel It Circles Act 8: Second Chance Candy Bling Subtle Invitation Mine Again Act 9: Together Again / Nostalgia The Roof / Lullaby Dedicated Money ($*/...) Yeah, it'd be more of a mid-tempo and slow jam fest. It's also highly unlikely she'd do even at least a third of these songs live. Oh well. I guess I can dream.

Album tracklist (46,644)
by Warr-en-Peace from United States

I guess it makes way more sense now, in light of the separation, why Triumphant was not on the album. While it could have been excluded due to its association with underperformance and The Art Of Letting Go album, I really think she completely rethought the album when her marriage took a turn. In fact, I get the feeling that in the last 1-2 months before the album dropped (when they were actually separating) she went back in the studio and wrote half the album and even rewrote some tracks/lyrics to emotionally deal with the separation. For me, there are several places in songs that I hear a different tone in her voice, as if she felt the need to go back and add even more emotion, since each song had a new meaning to her. Obviously many tracks were written long ago and remained fairly original, such as Faded, Thirsty, #Beautiful, Make It Look Good, You're Mine, and Supernatural, but I think she started the others from scratch and went back to those songs to perfect them. Pretty much every single song seems directly related to their marriage and Nick. Cry., Camouflage, One More Try, Heavenly, Money. Also, interesting to think about her inclusion of Betcha Gon' Know and It's A Wrap, which both seem to be stabs at Nick. She really had no other reason to include them except to make it even more personal and raw. Just my two cents.

More thoughts on Nick's rant (46,642)
by Marissa from USA
| |
|
|
Jenny, that's how I knew the rumors must be true too. They have faced divorce rumors their entire marriage and he would always say something about how in love he and "his wife" were, but this time that didn't happen. I think him [...] Mariah and talking about how he loves her unconditionally may have been a little ploy to get Mariah back, but as far as I know it was not retweeted or favorited by her. Does he not realize that anyone who read between the lines of his tweets now knows that the marriage is done? To the untrained ear the "love unconditionally" quote makes it sound like they're still together, but there are plenty of tweets in his rant that undermine his goal of shutting down the rumors. Luckily for him the media is dumb enough to take one quote and ignore everything else because from what I've seen, few people have caught on to what's really happening.

I've always wondered what this meant because I saw this a lot on YouTube comments, especially when I was just beginning to be a lamb and I would watch all of Mariah's old interviews and live performances (of course I still do, but not as much as back then lol) and in the comments section, there were many people saying "CRT forever" or "I love Mariah forever. CRT." I then did some research and the only thing I could find was the name "Charles Ryan Thornton". People would comment that as well. Yet still, to this day, I have no clue what this means at all. Does anyone know, or could possibly shed some light on it?

I don't like to comment much about the Nick situation because I think we are in no position to but I read something that really struck home. One of those articles that talk about possible reasons for their trouble say that Nick tried too hard to prove he was worthy after the wedding which he didn't need to at all "because Mariah already proved he was worthy by marrying him in the first place". One rare bit of tabloid journalism that I actually agree with.

Nick's twitter speech (46,639)
by Jenny from South Africa
| |

|
I know some fans get annoyed that Nick always called MC his wife but I thought it was sweet and lots of married people refer to their spouses as my wife or my husband. It made me sad to see that in his twitter rant he didn't call her his wife at all. It was strange because we're used to him saying my wife constantly. It really brought home that it must really be over now.

Nick (46,638)
by S from

Something that always irked me was how Nick Cannon always refered to Mariah as "my wife" or "Mariah Carey", never just Mariah. It's as if he couldn't get past the whole being starstruck and a fan and the way he talked about her always gave the impression he was showing off, like "hey see what a big star Im married to". But what Mariah wanted was a husband, not a fan nor someone who felt so intimidated by her success that he spent all his time working to prove himself, resulting in him never being home.

Music video (46,635)

Random thought. So MC has done a song where she refers to her old songs (For the record) and she did a photoshoot where she recreated some of her old photoshoots (for Memoirs). Now I would love a music video of Mariah's where she would recreate moments from some of her iconic music videos (I'm thinking VOL, Heartbreaker, Honey, Breakdown, WBT, SIO, My All, ABMB).

Mariah's next video (46,634)
by May from Denmark

First JayCarey, you are beautiful., I love your sweet baby voice. Regarding the title of this post, after reading the comment where Mariah directed "Fantasy" and recalling the only parts that I liked from the video "You're Mine", I would really like to see Mariah directing again and hopefully doing it so her next video. I have confidence that she would do a great job and she will give the clip her very unique touch, after all, she only knows what goes through her head when she writes a song, pretty sure she envisions lots of things in her mind and has lots of great ideas that because having someone else directing they don't come to light. Some of the videos I liked the most through her career are Breakdown, Love Story (she looked so beautiful in the feathers outfit and the whole burlesque atmosphere), Boy and Shake It Off, both of these last videos I find them to be great because are the few where you can see Mariah with looks and make up that she never wears.

Ultimate greatest Mimi hits (46,631)
by OGmattyICE from US
| |
|
|
Something festive I think we can all participate in is I've been thinking if I were in charge of compiling a new Mariah Carey Greatest Hits album to be sold to markets, and it was a dual disc, 20 track compilation, what 20 songs would you put on there? Personally I would include some of her biggest hits along with some songs that might not be widely known to the general public such as songs that were personal to mimi or helped shape her career or personality (i.e. Looking In). or for example, I'd choose "I'll Be There" because its special that a live recording became #1 (that doesn't happen these days). So without further ado, here's my 20 track Greatest Mariah Hits that I would make for the person who doesn't follow Mariah's story (these are not necessarily in particular order). 1. Vision Of Love 2. I'll Be There 3. Looking In 4. One Sweet Day 5. We Belong Together 6. All I Want For Christmas Is You 7. Always Be My Baby 8. Fly Like A Bird 9. Make It Happen 10. Butterfly 11. When You Believe (feat. Whitney Houston) 12. Through The Rain 13. Can't Take That Away 14. Fantasy (ODB Remix) 15. Touch My Body 16. Slipping Away 17. Supernatural 18. Forever 19. Hero 20. Without You I would love to see all your sumbissions and compare each other's ideas.

JayCarey / Mariah's relationship with the Grammys (46,630)
by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
| |
|
|
JayCarey, how are you not on the radio right now? It's a crime. Haha. S, you're right about I Am... Sasha Fierce. It was good, but it was also strangely uneven especially for an album that equally divides uptempo tracks from downtempo ones. It's nowhere near the caliber of TEOM. I shouldn't be surprised, though, Beyoncé (along with Taylor Swift and Rihanna) are great artists in their own right, but the overflow of Grammy recognition for each of them is just ridiculous. I don't wanna sound bitter, but I'm a Grammy geek and I know who they were up against in most of the awards they won, and I personally can honestly say they only each deserve around half of their total wins. On the other hand, Mariah is to the Grammys what Glenn Close and Amy Adams are to the Oscars. Always nominated, but never seem to catch a break. Sure, Mariah has accumulated 5, but for someone who has such a long stellar career, that's quite underwhelming. I don't really care if she doesn't win. I may be a bit biased when I say I care if she loses to someone inferior. I will always be upset about how she was shut out in the 1996 Grammys. Daydream was just as much as praised as Jagged Little Pill was, but to have her go home empty-handed was just a travesty. You know something went terribly wrong when no one shuts up about it the next day.

MIAMTEC Grammys? (46,629)

I think that MIAMTEC has a slim chance on getting Grammy nominations. With the new restructure of the Grammy categories it looks like she may be facing competition with Beyonce for the same nominations.

Fantasy (46,628)
by this_is_qhm from the Philippines

|
|
Mariah was on to something when she made Dreamlover. And that was Fantasy, one of the most special songs she has ever done. My playlist was on shuffle and it happened to come along, and I must say, even after over a decade since I first experienced (yes, not just heard) it, I still never get sick of listening to it. It will always be the best mid/uptempo track Mariah has ever crafted for me. Creatively/artistically, this is definitely one of her top 6 most important songs (for me, the 5 others include it's own kickass remix, which has to be #1 on the list, VOL, Breakdown, Honey, and WBT). It's just so uplifting, inspiring and remains to be one of her most nostalgia-inducing tracks. I mean, just that wall of gorgeous swirling background vocals. Her bold, assertive delivery. That genius (pun intended) sample. That unique, epic chorus. That ultimate feel good summertime vibe. That clever, sexy bridge, it's just the most irresistible lead single she's ever released. If Grammys were based on cultural impact, I'm pretty sure they'd have to re-do 1996 and make this Record of the Year. Heck, it wasn't even nominated for that back then. But Mariah knew what she was doing with the video as well, as she chose the perfect venue and concept when she directed it. It's a perfect metaphor for what one experiences when listening to the song - a delirious rollercoaster ride - only there's just all ups and no downs. It's just a liberating sugar rush that can't help but make you smile.

I'm not so convinced (46,627)
by Marissa from USA

I'm getting mixed messages from Nick's commentary. One minute he and his family are going through a "difficult time", he wants everyone to respect "this process", he's been off of social media for "obvious reasons", etc., the next minute he's professing his love for Mariah. If it isn't separation or divorce, what's going on? Why when asked on that TMZ interview did Mariah say "it's too hot to talk" instead of "Nick and I are still together"? I guess he was just trying to tell us that they're parting ways but it's amicable. Child, I don't know.
