Hold up (44,976)

She said something like if I had the luxury of not writing my own songs I'd get 8 hours of sleep a night and something about being able to see how soulful and deep J.Lo was/is by looking in her eyes.

Ew ew ew. Her face is so weird. I think the only photo that is good is the cover of The Art Of Letting Go. She looks beautiful and skinny and her face looks like her face.

I'm absolutely thrilled that You Don't Know What To Do is the next single. Instead of worrying how airbrushed it is/looks, let's think of it like this: most of the general public (especially many lambs) wanted this to be a single. Now, everyone and their brother needs to hear this song. It is by far her best single in almost a decade, and could be her 19th #1. I'm sure she has some sick promo up her sleeve and some killer remixes for it. And the song is already #2 in South Korea. Had my iPod on working out this morning. Really in the zone with her new stuff. Song that got to me today: AYDR (from Emotions). Much love.

Mariah on JLo (Allure Magazine) (44,971)
by ADAM from USA
| |
|
|
The catty comments JLo was referring to on WWHL from Mariah back in the day were regarding an Allure magazine spread. I've pasted the comments below: When writer Vanessa Grigoriadis, who was doing an Allure cover story on Mariah, mentioned that she had interviewed J.Lo recently, Mariah didn't hide her cattiness. "I bet it was really intellectually stimulating," said a mocking Mariah. "I bet you could just see the depths in her eyes, she was so soulful." The Post reported that when the Allure interviewer mentioned that Lopez claims to get eight hours of sleep every night, Carey reportedly snapped: "If I had the luxury of not actually having to sing my own songs, I'd do that, too." I think these comments were clearly derogatory and shows JLo is a more secure person by stating she's past it and would like to be friends. Very classy.

We're still on J.Lo (so I have to) (44,970)
by Lamb_O_Chop from Australia

One thing I can say is J.Lo ain't stupid hunny. She knows how to say all the right things in an interview and you all eat it up like ice cream on a "sunny summer day". I'm not buying that she was completely obvious to what Tommy was doing. Maybe she turned a blind eye, but she had to have some knowledge. As for trying to put Mariah in the same catorgory of stealing someone's ideas and sound, I don't even need to get into how that's a stretch. Inspired and stealing is two diffrent things. Now we're comparing Mariah's dating history to J.Lo's. Okay sure Mariah's relationship with Tommy could've been scretchy from the begining, but she was a teen and I'm sure it was mostly Tommy's doing. Nothing compared to J.Lo's man eating ways. She left her first husband as soon as she made it big, She quickly married Cris Judd almost immediately after breaking up with Puffy, then she broke up Marc Anthony's marriage (and expected theirs to last). But I guess that's all okay because she just "loves love". We know Mariah is an imperfect angel, but lets not try to bring her down to J.Lo's level. All in all I don't hate the woman, and neither does Mariah. I'm just saying she's not perfect either. They have different personalities and experiences in life that has formed who they both are today.

You Don't Know What To Do artwork (44,969)
by Ken from USA

I didn't think MC's team could do worse than the deluxe cover, but they haver really messed up the photoshop there. I know it's all about the music not the artwork, but for Mariah she should have way better artists editing photos. Doesn't project the right image having such a shoddy job on the editing.

JLo vs Mariah feud (44,968)
by Hana from UK
| |
|
|
Oh come off it lambies. There was never a feud between JLo and MC. In an ancient video where the interviewer asked Mariah what her thoughts on Jennifer Lopez were she said: "I don't know her." Why are people trying to spin that into a negative by suggesting she "shaded" JLo is beyond me. She said nice things about Beyonce because they personally knew each other. Mariah was only telling the truth, the media wanted to sell papers and the lambs and JLo fans jumped on the bandwagon. In fact Mariah gave JLo a standing ovation on American Idol after her live performance. There is no beef. Maybe there was that whole issue with the sampling, but JLo isn't directly at fault, there are many other key players in the industry holding the strings.

Just happy this was released as an official single. I hope the video will be in the likes of Honey, Heartbreaker or It's Like That and this song will propel the album sales and the single itself. Meteorite should be next then One More Try, Heavenly and lastly Dedicated or Faded. And oh let's pray that this become her 19th No.1 single. Yes I still care about the chart when there's a chance.

JLo vs Mariah (post Glitter scandal) (44,965)
by ADAM from USA
| |
|
|
Thanks GG for the detailed explanation around the Glitter fiasco. What this goes to show us is that Tommy was trying to sabotage MC's project but still doesn't imply that JLo, a new artist and has zero beef to start with someone like MC would want to sabotage MC. Don't forget Tommy is a very persuasive person - this is the same guy who told Mariah to keep "Hero" for herself and not Gloria Estefan and to record a Christmas album when Mariah hated him for it. JLo was used as a pawn in the scheme of things. I don't know why so many people have this intense animosity towards JLo because of the coincidence. I mean in the same article I read about the Glitter fiasco on Foxnews.com in 2002 also references that it a was maybe a taste of MC's own medicine because in the 90's she was sued and settled out of court 3 times for plagiarism attempts from other songwriters. I'm not trying to stir the pot here but am just saying that even our heroes we put on peddles tools have also questionable actions in their repertoire. Lastly, I mentioned Tommy and Mariah in business examples and also in love (when he was still married - separated is still married guys just ask Kim K about that and all the flack she gets from it) as a counter to the attacks many fans give on JLo because its not fair and very mean spirited. JLo had several marriages and unfortunate events (P.Diddy) and the Tommy Glitter scandal but it doesn't make her evil or psychotic and we all know Mariah is not innocent either.

There's no proof that Mimi said anything bad about J.Lo in the first place. The comment about J.Lo was from an unconfirmed source in People magazine. Why would Mimi reconcile with someone who she hasn't wronged in the first place? Didn't she went to one of her parties, or vice versa? Besides, isn't she promoting her album like you all been screaming at her to do?

I'm with you on this one man. JLo is coming off as really secure and easy going whereas Mariah is still holding on to a grudge from over a decade ago. Now, by no means is Jennifer even one fourth as talented as Mariah, but the woman atleast seems to be a better business person now that she has so successfully made herself seem so likeable eventhough there has been diva rumors surrounding her for ages. This is JLo doesn't play along with the diva tag, she maybe demanding but in interviews and promos she seems nice and always laughing and being cordial. Mariah is completely lost in the diva act, something she claims she really isn't in real life. And like I mentioned before, one reason the lambs hate JLo is because she snatched the sample from Mariah. But come on, she has to think about her own career, she didn't even know Mariah, how can we expect her to care? I also liked how JLo actually mentioned one of Mariah's hits to further show that she actually listened to it. Anyways main thing being, next time they ask MC about JLo she should just say "well I'd like to get to know her too". That's good enough. Instead of saying "who" and then covering her face with her hair. 24 years in the business, 18 number singles and over 200 million records sold should teach Mariah that it won't kill her to acknowledge people she dislikes.

Lol I know what you mean. I saw the cover, I was on a mobile device and the net was slow so the picture at first was blurry (it was taking time to load), and I was like wow a new unseen picture from the shoot. And then it loaded and I'm like woah what the? First up she looks pissed, then she looks like she is holding back a major sneezing moment. It looks like the same pose (and yes the exact same picture) as the album cover just that someone photoshopped a different head on it. Even her head looks like it is turned sideways so the "face" looks weird. Mariah is such a beautiful woman, why on earth doesn't she just do a new photoshoot? Anyways I am excited for the video if the Brett Ratner rumors are true.

Standards of English (44,960)
by Lee from UK
| |
|
|
It's not about White English vs Black English. It's about Standard English vs Non-Standard English. Mariah's lyrics used to sound intelligent, it didn't matter where you were you could sing the lyrics, talk the lyrics, quote the lyrics on websites and forums and sound intelligent. Lately though, if you were to quote some of Mariah's lyrics, you would sound very juvenile. This is OK if you are juvenile like Rhianna etc but Mariah is a grown adult. The majority of her fans are grown adults too. I actually feel sorry for those people who actually can string a sentence together correctly but choose not to in order to fit into some sort of stereotype.

MariahCarey.com (44,959)
by Bill from the UK

(Sidesteps J Lo talk.) Does anybody else feel that the look of MariahCarey.com is extremely outdated and could do with a refresh? It annoys me that "Music" ranks last in the menu bar, the site looks absolutely horrific on smartphones, and there are outdated references throughout. If you click on "Fan Club Merchandise for Sale", the page it lands on is for the MOAIA album, where it says how it is "launching on September 15 25th" (which is it?) and says Obsessed was released to radio "today". It's just shoddy. It's surprising that the label would let the site fall into such a state of disrepair. I don't blame Mariah as she's not responsible for the upkeep of the thing, but if I was her I'd get it sorted out. It's embarrassing.

I agree with you on the JLo situation and that MC is not totally innocent as a "homewrecker" of somewhat. I think that will never get her of the image of "I slept with my boss to launch my career". I believe MC was very naive at the time so I can forgive her for that. Tommy said himself he wanted what Gloria and Emilio Estefan have as this very succesful solid music couple and thought he could get that with MC, of course it was so forced that it was destined to fail. Tommy really went strategic on sabotaging MC's career and really managed to do so, since MC has never gotten back to the succes she had in the 90's. He did use JLo in his sabotaging process and I don't think JLo knew at the time. She was new to the business and wanted to jump on the opportunity to be a singer and the marketing for her album was insane. She was hot new and fresh. I don't know about other music stealing stuff later on in her career and how much she knows about those, but I believe she started fairly innocent and was just focused on getting her music career launched. As tough as it was for MC, she still stayed relevant only not with a powerful mogul husband backing her and a label that cut off a lot of artists to invest more money in her. You just can't expect to have other labels do the same for you. Everything was being done for her. Now she has to make sure she hires a good team around her to prove that she can be succesful on her own, but with the years it has become a mess because she wants total control, but I believe she can't handle it. They are yes people. Even JD. I thought it was a bad decision to get him on board. Why risk the friendship? Benny Medina did well for her (and for JLo by the way). That was a good move with the help of LA Reid.

New single (44,954)
by Rashidi Rahim Rick from Malaysia
| |

This new single YDKWTD should't be wasted like other singles. Mariah and her team need to go all out in promoting this single. Release the video, visit all tv shows and perform. She should wear jeans again in the course of promoting the single. Reason why, wearing jeans would make her look young and this would attract the young crowd. This single needs to be her 19th No 1.

Bro, you are comparing two completely unrelated things. Maybe Lopez knew she was getting stolen music, maybe she didn't. Maybe she did not need to know. None of that has to do with Mariah needing to like her or or hold her in a positive regard. They are not peers. Also what is the relation between 1) Tommy and Mariah in business vs Tommy and Mariah in love and 2) Tommy, Mariah and Tommy's estranged wife in the 1989-90 vs Tommy passing Lopez music Mariah made for herself in 2000/2001?

I totally agree about your comments regarding JLo, Adam. If you guys were new artists you mean to tell me that you would have missed out on your big break just so you wouldn't piss of an artist you've never even met? Child please. Jennifer had no allegiance to Mariah. It's not like Jennifer's career surpassed Mariah's so I don't understand why people are still so pissed off. Mariah should have held the grudge against Tommy. Jennifer did what anyone would have done in the same situation, just like how Mariah didn't turn down a relationship with Tommy although he was married. She knew that could have messed things up for her career.

"Best marketing in history"? You know, in the '90's I read this expose on Mottola from the late 80's. How he started off as a singer and called himself "Valentine". He flopped of course, but stayed in the music biz behind the scenes. He got chummy with a honcho and married his daughter. Popped out a couple kids and climbed the corporate ladder. He got friendly with the top dog before stabbing him in the back to steal his job as head honcho with a company that hadn't had a hit in years. Then, he leaves his wife since he didn't need her daddy's favors anymore. He then sells CBS records to Japanese company Sony. That's where I was kinda confused. I don't know if it was only partially a stock or if they originally owned the whole thing or not, but the author made it look like Tommy made out like a bandit financially. He then goes off to find a new act to bring in the big bucks. Of course, back then, no one knew who Mariah was yet. CBS/Sony was broke, he had to resort to relying on past relationships with talk show hosts to get Mariah seen as well as fire half the roster to support her. Mariah already had 2 other offers for a record deal. As much as the media loves a good drama this time frame doesn't match up. That family had split before she entered the picture. Mariah dated Derek while she was separated as well.

Dating? (44,949)
by G.G. from USA
| |

Adam, did you really bring up MC's dating record. I would talk about J-Lo's numerous shady relationships and how she cheated on Diddy, but we're limited to 1500 letters. Lol. Tommy tried to "create" another Mariah with J-Lo and Thalia and it didn't work. They've never come close to the same level of success. You know why? Because they don't bring to the table what Mariah does. Immense, incomparable talent. Believe what you want, J-Lo was in on it. Tommy told her he would make her bigger than Mariah and it didn't work.

So Mariah, what's your move? (44,948)
by Marissa from USA
| |
|
|
So JLo has pretty much put MC on the spot. Now, I obviously don't think MC and JLo will ever be friends, but here's an opportunity for Mariah to bury the hatchet. Mariah needs to learn how to play the game instead of always making it obvious who she doesn't like. Of course JLo's comments will be brought up in the next interview and I am 99% she will find a way to either change the subject or not acknowledge JLo's existence. Mariah's "they don't exist" tactics are only making her look like a grudge holder and it's not cute. She can feel however she wants privately I wish she would stop coming off as so unforgiving.
