I'm actually starting to like JLo (44,947)
by jaker20 from US
| |
|
|
I actually think JLo's music is atrocious. But I've never heard her say anything negative about MC. Come on, let's face it, music and entertainment has always been cut-throat. She was provided music by the producers when she was just starting out. Do you really think she'd care where the music came from? Also, from what I have read, the music she received was supposed to be for Mariah, but not by Mariah. There's a difference. If MC owns the music to the point of calling it "stealing" then MC should bring it to court, not act childishly like someone took a toy from you. She didn't sue because she didn't own it. Therefore it is not stealing. I think some MC fans' behavior towards JLo is actually working towards JLo and against MC. First, it creates a rivalry, which instantly benefits JLo. Second, it makes JLo look more mature and diplomatic. It's win-win for her.

Mottola was legally seperated from his wife before he met Mariah. He and his wife weren't living together. Secondly, this has nothing to do with J.Lo wanting to hurt Mariah, this has to do with her doing anything to get what she wants. Hence, the sociopathy. You'll notice I didn't just mention what she did to Mariah, but all of them. This is called a "pattern". Thirdly, how do I know? Because Ja Rule, the man who helped her, laid it out in Vibe magazine. Lopez and Tommy were viewing her Glitter project together. "J.Lo liked the song. J.Lo wanted it." And J.Lo was the one who called for the sample backed up by the Yellow Magic Orchestra who owned the sample. Tommy had his agenda to get his ex and J.Lo had her agenda to become a star. During the MTV awards when they were making fun of Mariah and her breakdown, they did a real nice close-up of J.Lo laughing her ass off. Amazingly, she stopped laughing when the Comic Dog asked to climb her ass because it was like Mount Everest for a dog. I guess things are only funny when its at someone else's expense. Next, here she claims everything is a "rumor", how innocent she is, and how "saddened" she is by everything Mariah's "said" about her. Ironically, the only thing I've heard MC say is "I don't know her". I don't see J.Lo being a "big" person, I see her slapping Mariah across the face again, and doing whatever she can to gain attention for herself. After all, it worked for Eminem.

I can't even deal with people arguing that it's ok to speak hood/ebonics/slang and not understanding the importance of being able to speak proper English. Also, you keep saying "white" this and "white" that. That sounds racist to me. Didn't you say you're mixed? Mixed with "white"? If so, it sounds like there's some self loathing going on there.

Mariah vs JLo (stealing music) (44,940)
by ADAM from USA
| |
|
|
I'm not saying Tommy didn't steal Mariah's sample, but tell me how that makes JLo aware of this nor responsible for the backdoor dealings of a music mogul? I think it makes her a victim of the situation. The bad blood was between Mariah and Tommy, why get mad at JLo? She at the time was just a new artist trying to break into music, don't hate the player, hate the game. And stop acting like JLo intentionally wanted to hurt Mariah, she never met or knew her. Come on. What would be her reason to? Let's not forget Tommy also was cheating on his first wife with Mariah while they were technically not divorced with 2 kids ok for 2 years? You really think Mariah had no idea? I wonder how the first wife feels about Mariah Carey splitting her family. You seem to forget that detail, I'm not judging but at least I'm not saying Mariah is squeaky clean and shouldn't be casting stones when in reality she cheated with Tommy Mottola, which scored her the best marketing and producers anyone with a debut album has ever had in the history of music.

It's not about being able to speak White English well or not, it's about priorities, remember? Speaking the English language well ie in a White fashion is the means to an end, standard communication. But at the end of the day, art music fashion hell [...] more and more no longer must get the [...] of the a Western White idea of what's acceptable. Stop arguing the non matters and stick to my point.

Did you really say "music sharing"? Sharing and stealing are two completely different things. I can't remember who it was, a producer/manager, but somebody came out later and admitted that Tommy took music for J-Lo's album.

I think J.Lo is a sociopath (44,936)
by nikki from usa
| |
|
|
Literally. To this day Mariah won't put herself in the same category as Aretha Franklin or Stevie Wonder, and quite frankly she could, but she's humble. For J.Lo to casually put herself in the same league as Mariah speaks volumes and then to take it a step further by attempting to play victim just steps it up. I have no respect for this woman nor do I think anyone should "hate" her, but the lies gotta stop. Ja Rule displayed her dirty laundry, but Lopez never owned up to it. She came out looking like Mariah, then takes Christina Milian's song before jacking MC's stuff. Next Ashanti, and then she's up Amerie's butt for her music on The One Thing, which she didn't get. I don't buy this "Mottola used her" crap. She went around telling everyone she called the shots. She lived in a 2 story house complete with a white picket fence in the suburbs outside the Bronx, yet passes off this fake image. She uses her men as publicity fodder, is twerking in a new music video called "Booty", and now dishing on Mariah. Mariah's real like it or not. She's not faking for anyone and I'm glad she doesn't stoop that low. Until MC is bouncing her girls in a music video called "Titty" J.Lo needs to stop talking.

JLo on Mariah Carey (besties?!) (44,935)
by ADAM from USA
| |
|
|
Her comments on WWHL only prove how graceful and secure JLo is in her womanhood and success that she could lay out there were bad comments from Mariah in there past and animosity (from the Tommy Mottola connection and music sharing) however she really admires Mariah and wants to be friends. This statement from her I really believe. Regardless of the stats between the 2 icons and many of the lambs feelings about JLo you can't deny JLo and MC have a lot in common. There both millionaires, have empires, twins, still active in the business and are both glamour woman who love to look hot. I think if these two were friends, the world would explode. I mean JLo and MC are such girly girls and equals in so many ways that I think if MC allows herself to bury the hatchet and overcome her insecurity she could have a really sincere friendship with her. I'm rooting for it. I love JLo and Mariah equally and can be objective about each one's success and pitfalls. I wonder how many fans out there also feel the same way. There's enough room in the industry for both woman to exist, I don't think being a MC fan you can't be a JLo fan and love all that she brings to the stage.

You are sadly mistaken, nOVA from USA (44,934)
by Carlos Jaramillo from USA
| |

I'm far from white. Very far. If you can't speak proper English and conjugate verbs appropriately, people look at you as less intelligent. You can be offended all you want, but that's just fact. I mean, the ibonics are funny at times. In movies, joking around with friends, etc. It's evident that you are defending this position because it's your most common experience, according to you. You speak that way. You see it okay. The great majority of the planet, however, thinks it's idiotic. Especially because people whom do speak with those horrible linguistics, can then turn around and pretend to talk "white" when they want to do it as a joke or mock a white person. The only reason it's called "talking white" is because 99.9% of white people talk proper English. You never hear a white person say, "talk white English" or, talk "like a white person". Only black or non-white people say that. It's their point of reference. You can be offended or not, it's just a fact. You are totally wrong and defending a mute point, nOVA. Now that I have an idea of how you speak, I can ashore you that you would tone it down in an interview. Why? That's a rhetorical question. It only confirms our point. I'm Latino and do not speak like a white person but, do take pride in my ability to speak congruent, intelligible, proper English for which people regard me as an intelligent individual without me having to give too much detail, speak facts or try to sell myself.

GG and getting far (44,933)
by nOVA from USA
| |
|
|
Whatever you consider getting far in life. Once again you are aligning your morals with white-centric priorities like money, fame and fortune - even the so-called educational system you speak of is ridiculously white-centric. You sound like a proper product of Western ie White educational and financial success ideology. MC has experienced a world most never will as a half white half black female born poor in the early 70s. I trust whatever image, word usage or blatant disregard for media timeframes she chooses to project, this straight hood superstar our amazing Mariah Carey does it right.

The AI thing continued (44,932)
by Matthew from USA
| |
|
|
Mimi, I think the story is that Mariah signed on to join AI first. She was lead to believe that she would be part of a 3 person panel where she would be the only female. But it wasn't in the contract (which is what happens when your friends manage you ). Once Mariah put her signature on it, it was announced that Keith would join. AI had people out trying to get a third person but no one was really taking the bait. So they re-signed Randy Jackson as the third judge. At the last hour, Nicki agreed to do it. Mariah did let them know she was unhappy with this. They didn't care because her contract was already signed and the thinking was that Nicki would bring a whole new young audience to the show. The implication being that MC couldn't. And so the negativity started with reports of MC hanging up the phone on them. The producers, sensing an opportunity, took full advantage of Mariah's displeasure to fan the flames. Nigel, one of the show's producers, went on the record as saying Nicki was one of the best judges the show has ever had. To be fair, MC probably went into it with an attitude feeling she was tricked. Things escalated to the blow out between the two women. MC's camp ran with the story that she was threatened, which was supposed to give the producers a reasonable way to get rid of Nicki, but they didn't take it. Lesson is get better management. A lesson she may not have learned yet. You can bet it's in JLo's contract that she be the only woman up there. Lol.

One huge fan I guess has made this brilliant version. I was waiting for so long for this one. I asked him if he would do it. Let's see.

Diplo did an interview for the magazine and he said, "We have someone like DJ Snake (of 'Turn Down for What'), who's selling more than Mariah Carey's album. He makes music in front of his computer. He's going triple platinum and Mariah Carey can't even sell 10,000 copies." Mariah has said in multiple interviews that she's not going to jump on the EDM bandwagon and it sounds to me like Diplo is bothered by that.

I don't know where you're from, but hood talk, slang and ebonics won't get you far in life. It's one thing to talk that way when you're playing around, but when that's the actual way someone speaks, it's sad. It shows they didn't take the time to learn and focused on be "cool" and "hood" instead of getting a proper education. Priorities. Knowledge is power. Lol education, being smart and speaking properly isn't a "white" thing. At least it shouldn't be. I never thought of it that way.

Yes you are right too. See I was just expressing my thoughts mainly about MC-Nicki fight before the "off with your head" thing. I remember in one episode Mariah just came and made a comment about Nicki's head piece (or some kind of accessory) and all. But yes you are right in you point. I am not saying Nicki is innocent, but she does acknowledge Mariah and so does JLo. Mariah on the other hand just pretends the person doesn't exist if some interviewer asks her about them. Also, I don't know how the shows work but don't they know who else will be in the panel? I mean are they not allowed to ask? Because if they don't what will happen if suppose they would put Eminem or Tommy Mottola as the fourth guest? So I want to know that didn't Mariah's team know in advance about Nicki? If she did, then why sign on? (These are actual questions so feel free to answer lol.) As for the fight, my theory is that they were both briefed on it and they started of fighting to get ratings or whatever and then bam, at one point one of them said something to the other and things got bad. That's when it fell apart.

Grrrr (white-centric) (44,927)
by nOVA from USA

Hey. First of all, what I intended to express is that it is a white-centric attitude to expect one who speaks Afro-centric in their youth to outgrow that "immature nonsense" and speak "proper" English in maturity. That is so unbelievably white in thinking and ignorant in reality that it is laughable. Yes, in the workplace we will talk your "proper English" (for the most part), but in music and on the streets you best respect. The webmaster bracketed out the word image as in Mariah's so-called broke image. I wrote about how it is white-centric to expect her to appease all of these media monsters who have so royally backstabbed her in the past. You kid yourselves if you don't admit attacks on our MC aren't racially driven. Finally, a hashtagged statement was bracketed.

What? I can't. Speaking proper English has nothing to do with what color/ethnicity you are. I know plenty of people, who aren't white, that speak perfect English. It has more to do with education and being articulate than it does the color of someone's skin. Speaking slang all the time doesn't get you very far in life. Fact.

The AI thing (44,923)
by Matthew from USA
| |
|
|
Mimi, you said that if Mimi is paid 18 mil, why bother cat fight with a girl years younger than you? Just keep your cool, end the season with dignity, then quit. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that exactly what she did? After the altercation in which Nicki let loose on her, she pretty much took herself out of any interaction with Nicki. Unfortunately, that made her look like an ice queen who didn't want to interact. I guess she just was not able to smile and small talk with Nicki for the sake of appearances with someone who publicly went off at you at work. Perhaps she should have smiled and pretended everything was OK, but since she couldn't she did the next best thing and ignored her. The few times they did manage to interact, it was a disaster. Nicki even told her to clean her ears out with a Q-Tip. I see what you are saying Mimi, but I really do feel MC handled it as best as she could. Even Keith says he felt like both women were brought in with the intention of pitting them against each other. So I guess my point is that sometimes we love Mariah too much and we blame other people for her failures. But in this particular case, I do believe that a large portion of the blame for the whole fiasco lies with the producers.
