Ok I am sick and tired of everyone saying the songs are about her and Nick. It's getting really annoying. Can't a song just be a song. Is Mariah not allowed to write song fiction? Maybe just a sad song for kicks. If you base all these songs about how she really feels then if say Mariah needs to stop making songs and get some help. But that's not the case because some songs are fun and fake. Michael Jackson was very passionate about his work too and wrote a song called Blue Gangster, does that mean we should start thinking he is a Crip? It's just songs folks. Beyonce makes songs that sound like strip club songs, does that mean she is a celebrity by day and stripper at night? No.

It was worth the wait (43,982)

I love this album. The beats, orchestra/piano arrangements, and vocal gymnastics sets this album apart from others. Mariah fused different styles of singing and music. At times I felt I was a kid listening to my favorite songs. I can totally see myself listening to "Faded" after a breakup ("always somewhere but you're not there for me"). I noticed the trailer for "Art of Letting go (November 2013)" has the "Faded" high note. The whistle notes have a different timbre. This is more noticeable in "Heavenly". The last whistle note sounded heavenly. She really played with that register. The choir made me want to go back to church. I can't compare this album with any other one and it sounds refreshing. I haven't thought "this is 'My all' part 4". Someone mentioned "Meteorite" could be a gay anthem. That's exactly what I thought. (The Andy Warhol reference, its catchy dance beat, the "star" imagery and lyrics "put on a show".) If Mariah markets it right this could be a big club hit period. I know I'll listen to this on my way to the clubs. "Make it look good" is a gem. She was creative on "Supernatural". It sounds like a lullaby but you can see it as a romantic song as well. Dem babies sound so cute. I want to buy all 3 copies. It was worth the wait.

Dedicated (43,981)

Dedicated proves Mariah still owns the thug love genre. A genre she started when she collaborated with ODB on the remix of Fantasy in 1995. Almost 20 years later. All hail the queen. Her album is better than I Am Sasha and Beyonce.

Camflouage (43,980)
by Maurice from USA

I know that this album was recorded years ago and most of us are praising how good it is. But when I listen to Cry, Faded and especially Camflouage it gets really sad. Mariah is telling us things may not be really good between her and Nick. In Camflouage she says "we laugh at the question" and "didn't we promise to give everything". I hope Nick gets the message. I hate to see anyone go through a divorce, especially Mariah. And maybe things are better now because this was recorded a while ago. But you "fans" don't like rappers, don't like to hear her kids on a record, I just laugh at you. And for the ones who don't like this record, it's your opinion. But I very strongly question your musical taste.

If one day I see this song performing live on tour I think I will turn hysterical. The lyrics are amazing. her vocals are divine, the choir. There are no words to say. I'm speechless. I want to hear that song live. What about you?

Me. I Am Mariah....The Elusive Chantuese (43,978)

I purposely stayed away from reading this message board and the many different opinions floating around about the new album, because I wanted to have my own opinion about the music without being subconsciously biased as a result of something negative that might have been said. Having said this, I have heard the album in its entirety and I absolutely love it, every single song (a first with Mariah) I didn't skip any song, it really has no fillers. Of course with every Mariah Carey album maybe I'll have favorites, but for now it's too early to tell. One track though that stood out, hit me with goosebumps and gave me that euphoria only Mariah can give was "Supernatural" the melody, the production, the raw power and grit she sings with and the giggling of dem babies, Perfection. There's love overload on that track. Lol.

Oh here we go (43,977)
by Will from Australia

I find dem babies annoying on the song when they are giggling over MC singing, much like Wale does on the intro to YDKWTD, but it's ok to get up in arms about that because he's a rapper right? Don't be so lame to question me as a person because I find something annoying, I'm giving my honest opinion and some people here have double standards. And I rated the album out of 5 per track as I wanted to, again another lamb here decides that goes against their moral beliefs, for your info I am a professional music critic. Peace out.

Okay so you're harping on what's bad, but you're not really pointing out what's good about the album. They're some undeniably great vocal moments on the album that you've chosen to overlook as well as songs and production. Yes there's some raspy vocal moments as well, but the voice is not "gone". Worn yes. As for comparing the vocals to Charmbracelet, Glitter, MOAIA, all those albums had great vocal moments on them. Especially Glitter, so it kind of makes me wonder if you've even given those albums a fair chance along with this one. I get everybody won't love everything, but I do believe in some cases people write things off too quickly and that's what may bother or annoy folks.

I couldn't agree with you more on all fronts. This album is exactly what Mariah needed. It's mature, well written, flows as a body of work, and actually feels different for Mariah, whilst staying true to herself. One More Try is a song that just needs to be sung. No airs or graces. It just needs to be sung with raw emotion and power. For me, it's by far Mariah's worst cover. I could go further, but I'll leave it, as the rest of the album more than makes up for it.

Thanks Elena / funny reactions (43,972)
by Marcel from Montréal, Canada

Elena said it well and that's why I find it funny to read people's reactions to other's opinions. I mean we are just expressing opinions not trying to convince/educate anyone. I feel like after 5 years without an MC album it was obvious most would be like "this is the best/she sound better than ever before". To me this is certainly a good album, way better than what I thought it'd be but I'm not impressed at all on her vocals and the production. Heavenly and Camouflage (faves of most of you) are not in my bag. To me are the first so messy and the second a Petals part 2 husky and hoarse. Sorry, I don't find hoarseness an indicator of emotion but an indicator of a gone voice. But compared to MOAIA, Charmbracelet, Glitter hell this is great. Wish - as some have expressed - she would've doné a good job on OMT. To my it was really bad vocally and prodn wise. Those that say asking for Walter is stay in the 90s really give me the impression you haven't heard anything Walter other than MC. He's such an excellent composer and producer, quite versatile. Still good album. Hate all the rappers in there. Even on the babies thing yes cute but too much. Peace.

Oops (43,971)

I'm gonna need you all to get off George Golden. Okay? He was just expressing himself too and he liked OMT. Alright, so I buckled down and listened to a couple songs from the album: Cry, Meteorite, Faded, OMT, Camouflage, and Dedicated. I still haven't heard Make It Look Good, Supernatural, and Heavenly. Out of all the songs I've only heard the high quality version of Faded which I played like a billion times in the row. My second favorite so far is Dedicated even though it was a bad quality version I was still beyond impressed with that one as well. I need to hear the high quality version of Cry and Camouflage to get my complete life, but I love how she's using her voice on those two and I'm sure it as amazing as everyone says it is. I'm sure I'm gonna live for the HQ version of Meteorite as well. As for OMT I can definitely see what everyone is saying, it's not horrible at all, but Mariah was definitely capable of bringing more to the song. I agree that she should've called Walter in for that one. All in all it's not bad though it just fair not as great as her pass covers (which she typically owns). I can't wait to hear the complete high quality body of work next week. Lets get our girl to the top where she belongs, everyone posting here should be buying atleast two copies. I'm just saying.

MIAM (43,970)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter

I gave the album a couple of more listens and I must say I loved it. At first listen, I honestly skipped some songs, but after 3 plays I loved it. I need some time to get used to OMT, Meteorite and Heavenly. Although I already partially like Meteorite. All the songs in the album are pure perfection. Shows how much emotion and attention she put in every line of every song. Flawless. Some people are complaining about her voice sound hoarse or whatever but I think it adds depth to her emotional songs, I like it when her voice sounds raw instead of super polished in the more emotional songs because that shows she is feeling every bit of it. This album is truly a masterpiece. A mash up of Daydream, Butterfly, TEOM and Memoirs. Now all she needs is to promote the hell out of it because otherwise such a gem would go unnoticed. Can't wait to see her on WMAs.

I've read a few comments saying they found them annoying. How the f* can someone hear the sweet innocent sounds of children and think of them as annoying is beyond me. Their voices made the song so much sweeter and meaningful and make my heart melt. Really people, you need take a hard long look at yourselves if you can be critical of something so pure and innocent.

Masterpiece album / One More Try (43,965)
by Tarraga from New York City
| |
|

MIAM is one of the best albums Mariah has ever done. It is absolutely a masterpiece. I don't understand all the negative comments about One More Try. I really never liked George Michael's version. He has better songs than that. Mariah did an amazing job with this cover. I don't really understand some people criticizing her "head-nasal high pitched" sound. She is using different vocal techniques and head-nasal doesn't mean bad. Coming from a Bel Canto Tenor myself, I rather hear her singing that way than using the back of her throat to make an opaque-dark-non-colored sound or yelling. Technically speaking she is astonishing. I have known Mariah since VOL and there is no album or song I don't like. I love her versatility, range, colors and the different voices that she uses. Just amazing. Nobody can do that. She is a genius. Every song on this album is heaven.

New album (43,964)

I find anyone on this board rating songs 1-5 like you are professional music critic very sad. This album is heard as a whole, not what you deem worthy. Me I Am is brilliant for someone in the game this long and her writing is still brilliant and cohesive as an art form. Adding dembabies to what Mariah could have kept as a night time lullaby is special for a lamb like myself, instead people on here are complaining about how annoying dembabies giggling is. Wow is all I have to say. As far the cover, Edward I disagree. Did it occur to you that maybe Mariah didn't want to be accused of over singing a classic? I think her cover is simply yet does the job nicely. It's a cover, not a single unlike MOAIA. There isn't a single song I don't like but "Money" is probably by least favorite. As a whole, Mariah gave her lambs what we wanted; ballads, club bangers and uptempo soaring vocals. You don't know what to do. How about you feeling the pressure of someone this long in the game and still making the best quality of music possible? This album is her best since Emancipation.

I have to agree on One More Try. I have been one that has been so excited when I saw the track listing with OMT on it. I am a huge GM fan and put him in the same category as MC in male form. I think what we all were envisioning was a soulful rendition. I think if the song was more stripped it would have sounded better. There is too much going on and for some reason her voice is really high in it. A deeper more soulful rendition is what I was wishing for. It's not bad and the album is still in her top 4 to me, but she almost sounds pretty while singing instead of the "pleading sound" GM portrays. I just wanted to feel more out of it. And I didn't think it needed that many vocals. I hope I don't get the hate from other lambs. I still love the album and don't think it takes anything away. Just was underwhelmed with it. Wouldn't it be nice if she performed it live maybe even bringing GM out and letting loose. One can dream. Sorry if it seems negative, I don't mean to. It's just that these are my two all time favorite artists and my dream to hear MC cover GM, and if non lambs can critique why can't real lambs?

Stephen / George Golden / One More Try (43,961)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
Stephen, I think the MIAM is different, fresh and great, but just like you I was really disappointed on her take of "One More Try". I do think that if you don't have anything to add to a classic, you just leave it alone, and I think this cover is her worse cover so far. I was hoping for a different outcome because I'm crazy about that song. When she could've shone vocally, she went mostly on a head-nasal high pitched and weird accent voice that kind of ruined the song for me. George Michael conveys such soul and emotion on this song that I thought Mariah was going to sing the hell out of this song, I even prefer "I Wanna Know What Love Is" more. As for George Golden, you are wrong by saying that you hadn't seen many positive opinions about Mariah coming from him, actually there hadn't been any positive opinions until the album was being streamed on iTunes two days ago. How hypocritical.

I seem to have upset some people on this board. I know I have been critical of Mariah in the few months leading to this album. I was just frustrated with all the missteps leading to this album. All I am saying from the three new songs I have heard and the response to this album from the iTunes listening, a lot of non fans and critics are really digging it. So lets not start criticizing too soon. Above all it's a great album from all indications. No need for us to argue. It's going to be a great era. Peace.

I enjoyed the album however not as much as the previous ones, it may be that over time the opinion changes. What I liked and felt when I was listening to "Me I am" was the album lashed to the past as some songs from Alicia Keys does. I remembered the album "Mariah Carey" in some songs, thing I had not felt in others. About "One More Try" I liked it, but all we used to hear the covers of the MC so that becomes her own, and I think this time it did not happen or just she did not want this.
