Meteorite re Javier from Dubai (43,955)

I don't think that Meteorite is a new genre for MC. I just think that the song, from beginning to end, sounds different than any other MC song I've heard. No need to "hate".

I don't know about those who still criticize this and complain about that, I'm so gonna enjoy this moment because, you know what, it might take another 5 years for us to have a new album again, I mean, if we are lucky enough that Mariah still spare some time from her kids to feed us. Treasure this moment, lambs.

You are asking people not to be negative, but looking at your old posts, you've been the one criticizing how she's desperately trying to appear black or ghetto. You had nothing positive to say about Mariah before the album streaming. We all unanimously agree that she should drop the rappers, but on this album Nas' presence was actually a good addition. I think we're all entitled to our own opinion about the new music and I, for one, did not like her cover of One More Try. Her vocals sound unnaturally high-pitched and choppy compared to the other songs and I think it was better if she didn't include it on the album. Everything else is top notch, though. I love the classic R&B and retro feel to most of the songs, and you can see she took her time to craft these songs to perfection. Cry, Camouflage, YDKWTD, Dedicated and Faded are my personal favourites, and I think even songs like You're Mine sound beautiful when listened in sequence.

I grew up Catholic but I'm not religious and I don't even know if there is a God. But when I first listened to this song I was weeping at the end. It touched me spiritually and for a moment I let myself believe in a higher power. Only Mariah's music can let me experience moments transcendent of time and space. The words are simple yet powerful: "I just can't give up now. Come too far from where I started from. Nobody told me that the road would be easy and I don't believe He brought me this far to leave me." Absolutely amazing.

Covers (43,950)

I thought the object of doing a cover was to pay homage and make it your own. I don't think she goes into any cover trying to outdo the original. I think she did good. Oh well, can't make everybody happy. Lol.

I believe you are funny and your comments if will be followed by Mariah, it will be a very boring, early 90's music production. Why can't the lambs just stop commenting unprofessionally and enjoy it? This album is meant to tell her story in an artistic, extremely hard to imitate production and vocal dynamics and just enjoy. Come on guys. Just enjoy and place it on top of the charts because it's meant to be there with her 19th and 20th #1s. Plus Grammys next year.

I think it's rather hypocritical of you to say that there are people on this messageboard who do not like Mariah. I don't remember seeing too many positive opinions from you regarding Mariah in the last 12 months. It's more than fair for someone to criticize a song on the album, irrespective of the criticism. Quite frankly, if Mariah puts an album into the public domain, and if people are going to use their hard earned cash to buy that album, then they are sure as hell entitled to give an opinion on a particular song. I think the album is great, I really do. However, One More Try was a massive let down to me. I've said that, and I have every right to do so. I'm not being overly negative in doing so, and nor am I taking away from the greatness that is this album. As per my previous post, it is a certified banger of an album and I can't wait to unwrap my copy. Thus, criticizing One More Try does not mean I do not like Mariah.

I had high expectation for this one. I cannnot say Mariah did a bad job, but the way she sings is too pop. George Michael sings it soulfully. I hope she can do some live performance of this song, but please do it less pop feeling.

Rapt his song has to be my favorite gospel song by Mariah. I love the preaching in the beginning and the record scratches at the end. I feel like this song was recorded in a church. The ending where she's saying stuff like he brought me and hallelujah and the choir is backing her up definitely sounds like they recorded from a church. I can just imagine Mariah standing up there with a choir behind her and she's just anointing the whole congregation singing this song.

People who don't like Mariah are on this message board in my opinion. How can you complain about a cover of a song not been better than the original? Is George Micheal better than Mariah? I don't think so. Why can't we praise this amazing body of work instead of critizing it. No female singer today can make an album of this greatness today. Please no criticizing, it's just too early for this. This is one of her her best albums ever.

The album is great, except "One more try". If yo decide to do a cover (of a well known song), it should be better than the original, otherwise it would be wiser not to cover. George Michael is dying in his performance. Sorry Mariah, but you sound too technical on this one and do no justice to this awsome ballad. Nontheless the album is a "great body of work".

Honest album review (43,942)
by Will from Australia
| |
|
|
Cry - 4/5 Reminds me of a Stevie a Wonder type song. Faded - 2/5 Sounds like the leftovers of You're Mine. Dedicated - 4/5 Definite a grower, more up tempo Candy Bling. #Beautiful - 5/5 Could be the best track on the album. Thirsty - 4/5 Different to what we have previously gotten. Make It Look Good - 4/5 It's A Wrap part II but better, like it had sex with Ribbon. You're Mine - 4/5 Fits in the albums sequence perfectly and would have done much better as a single off the back of an up tempo single. You Don't Know What To Do - 4/5 Wale ruins it but still it's pretty smoking. Supernatural - 2/5 Joyride part II but a poor imitation. Dem Babies are a tad annoying but the dialogue at the end with Mariah is too sweet. Meteorite - 1/5 Worst song on the album. Dare I say it's like something Madonna would record. I think it'll become a gay anthem though which I'm not implying is a bad thing dahlings. Camouflage - 3/5 Seems like it wants to be a Looking In, Petals update but doesn't quite get there. One More Try - 3/5 I had high hopes, they were torn down. Sounds like an album filler and something thrown on an American Idols or X Factor album. Her voice is way too modified and sounds nasal as a result, like sped up too much. Heavenly - 4/5 Is this a cover? I don't know it if it is but I liked it and the gospel. Her voice is very free in it. 44/65 overall which is 68%. Good album. Maybe I'll score it differently in a few weeks.

Singapore loves Mariah (43,939)

Thank you Mariah for this amazing album. All Singapore lambs are so happy and excited after listening to all the latest tracks from your new album. You give us the best present ever, this is your best work after TEOM. I mean to compare the rest of the album Me. I Am Mariah The Elusive Chanteuse is really telling us a story of the journey of making this album. Love all the tracks. Not even 1 track we didn't like. I mean wow. All the tracks are so great and powerful with alot of meaning to it, especially the opening of Cry. We feel you Mariah deep from our heart. It was a stand out track. Other stand out tracks are Camouflage, Heaven and Supernatural, even Faded. I can't even say how good it was. [...] Don't ever call her a comeback, she's been here for years.

Cohesiveness (43,938)
by Darryle from USA
| |
|
|
I get the whole cohesiveness thing Mariah was talking about. After a listen it hit me why she didn't want a single. If you listen to YDKWTD, Beautiful, and Thirsty you don't get the feel of the album. When you release a single that's what people judge by. If you release 2 uptempos and 1 ballad people assume your album is mostly uptempos when that may no be true. With this album if you focus on the singles you miss out on the journey Mariah's been through and you don't get to hear her peaks and valleys through song. You'll miss out on the gems of the album. MIAM needs to be heard as a cohesive record or you miss out on Mariah.

Me. I Am Mariah... thoughts (43,937)

"Camouflage" is like "Cry" in the sense that it's just on another level. Background vocals are just something to always be admired when it comes to MC. I'm mean from the very beginning of this song, the backgrounds are amazingly haunting. Hearing "Money" and this sample is giving me life. I have to say, "One More Try" is my least favorite. Maybe it'll grow on me. "Heavenly" is that business. I feel like this album is just MC at her best. MC is giving me everything with this album and the promotion. If you go back and read some of my post this promotion mirrors everything I wanted but on such a larger scale because MC is the best of the best. Sonically, it's like she said, I'm making no compromises. And I thank her for that because this is her most mature album in a long time. This is "Memoirs" and "Butterfly" stripped down to the bones. I'm happy that everything was worth the wait. All of the arguing on the board has subsided because we literally have nothing bad to say about this masterpiece now added to a catalogue of greatness.

Revaluation (43,936)
by Darryle from USA
| |
|
|
I listened to the album again and my opinion has changed. My first review was all positive but that was because the album was out and I wasn't really listening to the music just fan manning over having new music. After two listens I've decided this album is a 4.5/5 stars. It's got all the elements to be a hit album. The only thing is sometimes instrumentation and production mess up the song. For example the Heavenly drum track messes up that song and the background vocals on Dedicated along with the instrumentation makes it feel somewhat busy. Despite these minor things this album is still a hit and is joining the ranks of Butterfly and Daydream. Mariah was really experimental with the sound of this album and it really paid off. You get something new that still sounds slightly reminiscent of her. Her vocals are top notch. Fav tracks: Supernatural, Dedicated, Cry., Meteorite, and Camouflage.

Me. I Am Mariah thoughts (43,932)
by clueey23 from USA

Not only is this album amazing but it's almost as if MC is in my head. Everything down to the Eddie Kendricks sample of "Going Up in Smoke" on "Mediorite". That's literally my two most favorite voices on a track. I now understand why I love MC and all the people she chooses to work with, similar musical influence and taste. Thank you QTip for that song "Mediorite". Cry is just on another level. Faded would blow up if released but love it so much, I'm stingy, not everyone should have the pleasure. Dedicated with the WuTang sample and Nas is amazing. I have so much love for the vibe that song gives me. #Beautiful, You're Mine and The Art of Letting Go sit so well in this package. Thirsty is a banger with and without Rich Homie Quan. Make It Look Good sounds so classic. Stevie on that hermonica is just like the cherry on top. His laugh at the beginning damn near brought tears to my eyes. That intro on "You Don't Know What to Do" is so above and beyond everything currently being played on radio. This song with Wale is so real, reminding me of a past relationship. "Now that I've found myself, you're aching to be mine." That scatting she does is everything. "Supernatural" literally brings to my eyes. "You make the beat, you make the beat go." Such a beautiful and natural love song for her family. Most def an "Impossible" part 2. That key change tugs at my heart strings. Not to mention her babies singing sounding so talented, those adlibs at the end of the song.

Promo (43,931)
by Rón from United Kingdom

I really think Mariah and her team need to step up the promo for this album. I think the WMA performance will gain a lot of coverage but I also agree that she should do more interviews and actually talk about the album, the music and the tour. Famous talk shows like Jimmy Fallon would be a good option in my opinion, even talk shows over here in the UK. It looked like she enjoyed Alan Carr when she was over last time. I think the album will do well regardless but with touring around the corner, promo needs to step up.

I totally agree with you. The thuglove genre is her trademark. She pioneered it. Well anyways, she has a lot of trademarks, thuglove, very wide vocal stretch, melismas (upper and lower registers), whistles, vocal layering/different textures of voice, great remixes. It is funny those who said "Meteorite" is a new genre for her. They totally don't know Mariah. If you comeback to Fantasy and Butterfly era, the remixes are like Meteorite. Even "Anytime You Need a Friend remix" has a touch of this. I hate ignorance. No need to criticise bad about this MEIAM album. It's meant to be praised. It's flawless, it's fantastic, strong voice, excellent production, new textures on the instrumentation and also nostalgic Mariah. It's absolute perfection. Any negative comment is unnecessary. Lets put this on top of the charts.

This is without a doubt one of Mariah's best albums to date. I love it. I have been a fan since 1990 and I love all sides of Mariah. I feel most of her fans always choose one of her sides while I've been lucky to just fall for all her musical ventures. This is Mariah at its finest. I feel so sorry for people who expect her to sound as if she was 20. I mean she's 44 and still has a voice that is full of emotion and jaw-dropping. Others expect her to drop the rappers. Don't you know Mariah at all? She is crazy about urban music, she knows every rapper under the sun, she will never drop her hip-pop collabos since she made it a standard. Love and peace. Enjoy this magnificent artist.
