I don't think those views are limited to just American fans. There just happens to be more American fans on this board.

I agree. See my earlier post. I mean, yes I'd be mad if that happened, and yes I hear the differences, but none of the changes change the substance of the song. Thus, a message at 3.30 am from the bathroom floor seems a little odd, and OTT. Perhaps, she's just so into this project, and the message is a reflection of that. Sidenote, the song is growing on me, despite there being no hook. There seems to be no plan for a video or release to radio, so something tells me that this is not the first commercial single.

New here (39,819)
by Faith from Uae

Hey there, I've been following the site for a while now, but what is been happening lately in Mariah's career made me want to post and discuss it with you guys. I hope that this is not going to be Glitter part II. There is something wrong that is happening behind the scenes we don't know about, Mariah is struggling a lot lately and her latest pics in Instagram show her a bit miserable plus that letter on the Facebook is not a good sign. Why she is delaying the album with each single that wasn't successful enough? Is she afraid that if the album didn't debuted #1 people will count her out? Or the truth maybe that they aleardy have counted her out and they are not even playing her new songs as much on the radio in the USA. I have a lot on my mind to write but I will leave it at this for now.

Sales and radio impressions (39,817)
by Edward from USA
| |
|

According to my research TAOLG hasn't been properly released to radio yet. Sales should pick up a bit when they start playing it. Unless TAOLG turns to be a slow burner, we shouldn't lose our sleep expecting it to top the charts. I hope radio programmers give this song a chance. It is not only beautiful, well sung and retro, but it is way different from everything playing out there now. I also hope that Mariah and her team would be on point to promote this one.

It doesn't seem odd to you that MC is so upset at the wrong version being released? I know she is very involved with her music. It's one of the many reasons why I admire her so much. But still, that message seems loopy to me, like we are seeing 2001 all over again. I hope I am 100% wrong. The whole thing just seems odd to me. Anyone else?

Mariah media storm (39,815)
by RadChad from United States

I thought she looked uber hot on Jimmy Fallon; the girls were sitting just right in that black dress. Lol. Her behavior as of late is typical Mariah. Now if we were in the Daydream era, then maybe I would think "she's acting different", but Mariah has had this eccentric persona for a minute now. It's really nothing new or shocking IMO. The only thing I can point out is she's starting to care less about what people think and speaks her mind more free and bluntly (Nicki and Idol so deserved that shade she handed to them on a silver platter btw). Back to the music, I literally can't get enough of this new song. Everything from the symphony, to the adlibs, background vocals, the vunerability in her voice, those one of a kind low riffs, and high belting are all giving me everything I need right now. Note: I'm in love with the bridge when she sings with herself in soft voice "baby letting go (baby letting go) ain't easy (ain't easy)", it's been stuck in my head all day.

This American fan needs lyrics (39,814)
by Trish from USA
| |
|
|
Mariah has a distinct style throughout her career of writing beautiful, thoughtful lyrics, however lately the use of modern technology terms, slang, improper English, inside jokes, and using her own name in songs really just distracts from what could be a beautiful song. The first time I heard Where Are You Christmas, performed by Faith Hill, I knew Mariah wrote it because I was so familiar with her phrase and lyric writing style. I bought TAOLG on iTunes and I love the vocals, I support Mariah as I have my whole life, but I would expect someone so good at writing to get better with lyrics as they go through more life experiences good and bad. These lyrics feel rushed sloppy and silly. The lyrics have always been what separates M from other vocalists who sing songs other people wrote, which is why a return to form has to include a return to timeless lyrics. Maybe lyrics aren't that big of a deal to a lot of people, but I look for a deeper connection to lyrics, particularly Mariah's lyrics, and I have a feeling a lot of fans feel the same.

TAOLG (39,813)
by Ms. Giselle from USA

I personally love the song. It's very mature and it brings me back to 1990-1992 Mariah, this would have fit right in with ''Emotions'' era. I hope Mariah looks at her old SNL performances of that era because TAOLG could use a performance like that this era. I really hope she doesn't spoil it with the video, all she needs is to do a great video with a storyline, no vanity this time and the sales will rocket up like WBT. I like that she did something unexpected and new. I've been wanting a throwback old school sounding song from her and we finally have it. I honestly don't care about sales/charts, I'd so rather her have huge success with a quality album from start to finish then #1 songs. I hope she does another unplugged type of thing this era on TV to promote it.

Sales and radio impressions TAOLG (39,812)
by Tony from Ireland
| |
|
|
I have to say that I do not get what American "fans" want from Mariah, I mean, everybody was a little bit upset when #Beautiful was released because of how much importance Miguel did had on it. Well, now we, and they, have the most beautifully well executed song MC has put out in years, and the lambs fan base is been falling down by millions, or the American "lambs" do not have a clue how to support an artist. The sales are going down so fast that it seems that nobody is buying. The single is on the radio, there's not sign of it at all. Why I say that about American fans? Because they have in their hands the chance to make her go back to the top and they are doing nothing. And it doesn't matter how much she is selling around the globe, because sadly nobody will talk about it.

TAOLG (39,811)
by Jay from USA

I love this song and I'm very excited for this era. I know that term is overused but I'm going with it. The past "two singles", Triumphant and #Beautiful, were songs. They were okay and didn't really excite me as a "new single" from Mariah usually does. To be honest, it's been awhile. I'm always supportive of Mariah but TAOLG gave me a "90's vibe". I mean, I don't remember the last time that I felt so excited for the premiere. It felt like that morning that I set the alarm for the premiere of Honey on MTV. Or the first time I saw the Dreamlover video on VH1. And later when I found the Dreamlover single that featured the David Morales remixes. And of course the night I made everyone watch the Thanksgiving special after dinner while everyone in my family rolled their eyes. I love the song, the lyrics, and trying to decipher who or what she wrote it about. I even stayed up, in my old age, to watcher her on Fallon when usually, I just wait to see it online. I'm liking it all so far, but I really hope we don't have to wait until February 2014 to hear the rest of the album. I do hope we get remixes from David Morales the way he remixed CTTA.

This sums up my problem with MC's lyrics these days (39,810)
by B from USA
| |
|

From a review of We Belong Together: There's no tired "I tried to 2-way you" retorts, no trash-technology love affair "I was at the grocery store and this guy had the same ring tone as you, and I cried." No, there's a classic sensibility to the lyrics and sound.

Differences (39,808)
by Lee from UK
| |
|
|
It took me a couple of listens to figure it out, but the main difference between the two versions is in the part near the big climax where Mariah sings "Letting go..." and then it is immediately repeated "Letting go..." And the backing singers go "bop, bop". Well the vocals here are slightly lower on the Facebook version and on the iTunes version they are higher. But the main difference is that on the proper final version on iTunes, Mariah includes a high note during the climax in the background. This is missing on the Facebook version.

TAOLG part II (39,807)
by Carol from Spain
| |
|
|
Unlike many, I think it's a big deal to post the wrong version of TAOLG. Not for me, but for her, as an artist and being a person that likes to control every aspect of her work, i understand it's a big deal. Yes, the nuances are very small, but she had a vision to show us the song and it got screwed up but God knows who. I wouldn't like to be the engineer or the person that gave her the news, but I guess I would also crawled up on the floor too if my vision got disturbed by incompetence. Either way, I like both versions. Yet again, here it is another token of Mimi's artistry: she could just let it go and put the right version on the album and don't mention the slip, but she wants us to know what's going on every step of the way. Mariah is always the best.

Version 1 vs version 2 (39,806)
by R&B Junkie from Poland
| |
|
|
For some people the differences aren't clear, but for those who are on the higher level of musical sensitivity they are evident. It's the same with files of mp3 or wav format. The latter is considered to be professional. Mp3s have lower quality of dynamics. 90% of listeners don't get that, but it's the way it is. If you want to have an eargasm with Mariah songs, go and listen to her CDS or, if using computer, turn CD tracks into wav format.

That message was a little OTT. Even I'm starting to question whether all is well in the land of Mariah. Perhaps I'm wrong, and totally misreading things, but I don't think there's defo something up. What it is, is anyone's guess.

Breakdown part II (39,804)
by Will from Australia

Ok her TRL episode was completely nuts but Fallon is a close second, even he seemed uncomfortable and kept calling her crazy in an awkward way. On another note, revealing to the world that she's lying on her bathroom floor at 3.30am and ranting about what is really the smallest of differences in the songs versions doesn't seem peculiar at all.

Yeah, that "brand new sound engineer" won't be getting another job for a while. And to be honest, I only hear slight differences between the two. But I guess for Mariah, they must be huge differences.

Fan ambush on JF (39,801)

I forgot to mention in the last post how much I loved the fan surprise. I watched it this morning on my way out, and it put a huge smile on my face. For an ambush, it really felt genuine. Some of the reactions were priceless, she sounded great. Of course it's edited for TV ect. I enjoy her collabs with Jimmy, they've been so fun.

Jimmy Fallon (39,799)

The dress was not flattering o her in the least. She was certainly eccentric and silly during the interview, but this was no where near TRL IMO. On TRL it was clear something was wrong. This was just light night entertainment, Mariah style. As for TAOLG being about a specific person, I get the feeling she drew from a bunch of experiences emotionally, and the song isn't really about a single person as "letting go" of things that aren't really serving you, is something we do repeatedly as humans. My .02 cents.

The real Art of Letting Go version 2 (39,798)

Oh my, I'm just now reading Mariah's Facebook post and she is pissed. I would hate to be the person who posted the wrong version of the song. I can hear a slight difference in the two versions of the song, but the second version does seem more finished.

Mariah on Fallon/Angie (39,797)
by Stephen from London, United Kingdom
| |
|
|
She gave the audience crazy Mariah. That's what people want from her, and that's what they get. Admittedly, I found it awkward and a tad boring to watch, but Mariah knows what she's doing in these interviews. Did anyone get the impression on Angie that perhaps all is not well behind the scenes with Mariah though? I think TAOLG is a dig at the record company, as well as a previous relationship with either Mark Sudack or Luis Miguel. I'd like to think Tommy is no longer worth writing about. Also, I felt she was being ever so slightly negative regarding Nick. Maybe I'm wrong, but the positivity I have seen in recent years just wasn't there. Not saying there's anything in it. All marriages require work and are not always as fun as they once were.
