Family drama comments (65,880)
by this_is_qhm from the Philippines

So far, most of the readers' comments I have seen regarding this issue lean towards defending Mariah. Even some of her haters have her back on this. I guess that's a good sign that people may not have completely lost faith in her as a person after all.

Family drama (65,879)

I rarely post when it comes to Mariah's personal life, especially when it comes to her family and romantic relationships, just out of respect, I guess, since the media already does that in a remarkably awful way. The thing is that unless we really have been there to witness how Mariah deals with these special people in her life, we are only left to speculate. Even so-called "insider" sources aren't reliable. So Alison turned to prostitution once again, maybe out of desperate measures, or maybe because it happens to be one of the few things she knows that worked for her before. On one hand, maybe Mariah stopped (that is, if she really, completely did) supporting her sister because she has realized how much of an enabler she has been in the past for doing so, although maybe she may have taken it a bit too far this time. On the other hand, a lot of people who deal with substance abuse are known to be very good at looking for someone else to blame for the consequences of their own actions, and maybe Alison is one of them. Morgan's actions may also either be partly or fully driven by genuine concern, depending on how opportunistic you think he is. That's a lot of maybes, huh? Exactly.

I'm so sorry for Mariah. The family "headlines" are really disgusting. It must be the hell to have such relatives. But as another one on this board mentioned I do wonder what's going on with Mariah's mum? Must be very hard for her too. Morgan is envious of Mariah and should be ashamed what he does to her.

Re: Mariah Carey's HIV+ sister (65,864) (65,877)
by Andrew from UK

Actually, Martyn, I think people here are showing exactly why the journalists keep labelling Alison as they do. Quite absurd attitudes abound. Not sure if the point of my post was missed or if people are actually revealing quite dark sides in terms of people with HIV. Edward (coming soon, an original post) seems to quite strongly infer that those people who contracted HIV "through no fault of their own" should not be condemned but those who had unprotected sex should. That's dark. Should smokers who develop cancer be treated with less consideration than non-smokers who do? Patently absurd. Talking of condemnation, hot off the press from Australia: "There's a special place in hell reserved for those who sleep around without full disclosure." So, let's tattoo a big "+" on people's genitalia shall we? Hell? I thought it was up to an individual to select their own sexual partners and then practice safe sex once they have done so. Safe to say if you believe in a hell you may not be the person best placed to decide public policy. But let's skip back across the Pacific for some more compassionate conservatism. It's a "public health matter". Dammit where are those symbols on the foreheads? You dont get no privacy or dignity now, honey. Maybe we could put big red plusses on their front doors as was done during the Plague. Silly Alison, trying to "draw up sympathy". Nobody feels sympathy for you, honey. It's quite evident. Which has all kind of made me realise that Alison lives in the United States where there isn't a social health care system, thus she would have to pay for HIV meds which it seems she can't afford and will, thus, die from an Aids related illness, something which is not a pleasant way to go. Such an insignificant amount to Mariah would save her sister's life. Family is still family. You may not like them but you surely love them. Gonna have to reluctantly agree with old Eminem: if Alison doesn't have access to meds Mariah is morally obliged to provide them for sister. Not to do so would be a moral outrage. I'm sure Christianity has teachings on forgiveness, compassion and "crossing the road". I wonder if some recent posters here would.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't recall Alison ever mentioning her HIV status in interviews? Not sure where you've gotten that from. And as I said earlier, I think it's fine to mention her status in reference to her alleged crime (i.e. sleeping with people without disclosing it) but there's no need to prefix it to her name every time she is mentioned for sensationalist purposes. It has negative connotations and strengthens the stigma surrounding HIV - one of the many reasons people are too scared to get tested.

The Truth (65,874)
by Martyn from England, UK
| |
|
|
Genuine question to "The Truth". Why are you even on this board? I, along with many others on this board, am more than happy to point out Mariah's many flaws, but all you ever seem to do is bash and hate on her. You have a picture of Eminem as your avatar, and I don't think I've ever heard you say anything positive about Mariah. Are you even a fan? It just seem s a little strange that you spend so much time here only to spread hate and negativity. I'm not trying to be a dick, just genuinely interested.

Shawn is [censored] and [censored]. I've seen Morgan doing 22 clapping pushups for our veterans on his FB page, he doesn't look old to me and he and his gorgeous wife look very happy to me. It's sad to me how the media has to keep talking about Alison's HIV status as if it's a crime to have HIV and her own son apparently does nothing to help his own mother other than to bash his uncle. How is Morgan the bad guy because he tries to shed light on Alison's need for help that Mariah, Pat, and her children choose to not provide?

I agree. It is actually a public health matter because she is a sex worker and it is a matter of public record already anyway. Alison has been talking about it for decades now, trying to draw up sympathy from the general public and more money from her sister. Nobody is seeking her out, she is seeking out the press with videos and pleas along with her greedy brother. She advertised her services on the web herself, where she can be so easily recognized and she especially mentioned to the arresting officers that she was Mariah's sister. She wants to be the headline and she seems to have no floor.

Comeback possibilities (65,871)
by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
| |
|
|
If Mariah manages to pull off yet another comeback, I feel like it would be more critical than commercial in nature. It probably be akin to Britney Spears' recent resurgence rather than Beyoncé's much celebrated blockbuster return. Albums just don't sell as much anymore, and even younger artists such as Alicia Keys or newer ones like Ariana struggle to shift units. A decade ago, a mainstream artist selling less than 100K a week would have been considered abysmal. These days, we can have charttoppers that haven't even surpassed 70K in sales. I'd rather settle for critical acclaim. Many great albums in recent years haven't done so well commercially and have gained a cult following due to their superb quality. At this point in Mariah's career, she shouldn't be releasing "smashes" if they're only hits in her eyes (Infinity and Triumphant come to mind). If she doesn't have any potential #1s or top 10s, then maybe she should just be releasing albums as a whole without any preceding/supporting material. These days it's really rare for great LPs to be bestsellers as well. Fortunately for Mariah, she's had her share of those in the past. She said it herself - she wants to have songs that she can be proud of at the end of the day. MIAMTEC was a good warmup albeit with some very obvious weak links. Now it's time to focus on making something that's lean and mean rid of all the dead weight.

I agree that normally it shouldn't be relevant to a story, but there's a special place in hell reserved for people that are HIV+ and sleep around without full disclosure. Did she mention it in her ad I wonder?

Alison HIV status (65,869)
by Edward from USA
| |
|

I've always wondered why when they refer to Alison in the media they have to also bring the fact that she's HIV+ as if her status were some sort of curse or something to be ashamed of. It's like you're marked and should be marginalized. Many people have contracted HIV+ no necessarily because they were being promiscuous or hookers. Many have been born with it, others have gotten it by accident, blood transfusions and such. I do really think they do it to kind of let Mariah know her princess life is not as fairy after all, but that's ridiculous. But this is the world we live in.

Summer songs (65,868)
by Musti from UK
| |
|
|
Billboard posted an article listing the Top 10 summer tunes of each year up to 2015. Mariah topped two lists, in 1990 with Vision Of Love and in 2005 with We Belong Together. If I didn't miss anything, Andy Gibb and Katy Perry are the only other singers who were at the top twice. Mariah was also in the Top 10 with I'll Be There, Always Be My Baby and My All. I'm sure Fantasy, Honey and Heartbreaker would've made the lists had they not been released in September/late August. It's a shame Dreamlover didn't make it to the 1993 list, since it reached #1 in September despite being released at the end of July.

Re: Article: Mariah Carey and Jennifer Lopez together on stage? (65,835) (65,867)
by 123 from USA

this_is_qhm. I love how you got MTV together with your post. If I could give your post 100 up posts I would. Mariah has no new music to promote so why do it? MTV and Jennifer would be the only ones to benefit since JLo is promoting that horrible "Ain't Yo Mama" and MTV needs ratings for their failing awards show. Once they took away the focus on music and stopped making shows that the artists could come on, it lost its appeal. They never gave Mariah an award anyway. She only got TRL awards in 2006 for her videos going number one on their show which are voted on by the viewers. Did you see the article celebrating the anniversary of I'm Real? They finally admit that they knew Mariah sampled Firecraker as well and dismissed it in two sentences as a "coincidence" and kept it moving. JLo's team is smart. They finally addressed it as just a mere coincidence and nothing else. I wonder what Mariah's response would be to the way that story was told. JRule having access to Tommy's jet because they needed the song released asap. Why in such a hurry? They admit in the article had it not been for the remix (Mariah's ideas) Jennifer would have suffered a sophomore slump. Things that make you go give a crazy side eye.

M.'s nephew tweets (65,863)
by RibbonB from USA
| |

I noticed Shawn sub-tweeted about his uncle, that he doesn't know what he is talking about and he sells stories for money because he is old, broke and sad. Same message he tweeted when Morgan first put out his "blackmail" video last summer. It is extra insulting when Morgan claims he is in Italy because he fears for his life from M. or her fans. LMAO. He is both feeding off of his sick sister A's misfortune and off of his rich sister M. Family can often hurt you the most. What must their mother be thinking?

Mariah Carey's HIV+ sister (65,856)
by Andrew from UK
| |
|
|
The advert is awful. She is a prostitute and a drug addict, yes, but she ought not to be demonised or overly harshly admonished for this. Some people make all the wrong choices in life. Some people have naturally addictive personalities, whether it be to alcohol, chems or sex, which they find difficult to control. It's a disease from which they suffer not from which they prosper and it incrementsally becomes more serious leading to more desperate behaviour - such as using your sister's self-penned lyrics to sell yourself, an act which is likely to have been committed to directly seek media coverage and Mariah's attention. If Mariah doesn't feel able to help her sister then that's her business. Nobody is privy to what has gone on between them. It is of great shame, however, that Alison is referred to in every news story as "Mariah Carey's HIV positive sister". What does Alison's HIV status have to do with anything? The inclusion of this information in the context in which it is written serves to directly infer that being HIV positive is something of which to be ashamed, something for which to be admonished, something that stains your character, and so on. Whether it's because she is a prostitute or not I don't know, but it's simply nasty journalism and it is not in the public interest. The statement asking anyone who has had sex with her to go get tested is ridiculous and simply trying to instill more shock and disgust. If you have unprotected sex with a visibly drug-ruined, older prostitute, do you really need a reminder to go get tested? It's almost as if the inference here is that the evil Alison is going around happily infecting poor, helpless, kerb-crawling men. What vicious nonsense. She's already in the gutter. She doesn't need to be pissed on, too. That's a chargeable extra, after all.
