She's a singer and an actress. Outside of twitter alot of people don't know how her. I'm not going to say she's not relevant (I hate that word) she's just not well known.

Now Chaka Khan has been added. VH1 is picking the right legends so far. I'll give them credit for that. They should just make it a legends show. If you weren't in the music business before 1999 you can't come to the party. Lol.

Top 3 #1's (68,339) by enwar00 from usa
Emotions, Honey, My All. In no particular order. I've been trying to rank and choose between them for a couple years now, but I don't even want to anymore. I enjoy each in a different way. Emotions is thrilling and upbeat, Honey is chill and cool, and My All is sublime and beautiful. Anyone share these same 3?

Re: So what would you recommend? (68,334) (68,338) by MusicfanJ from Germany
1. Fire Stella
2. Get a professional management (someone who has much experience in the music business and who can handle a living legend)
3. Be natural, shut down the diva-show a little bit
4. Make music 100% from the soul with meaningful lyrics (it doesn't matter of what topic as long as it's pure and from the heart)
5. Give the media a break, don't feed them with gossip (bad press isn't always better than no press)

Re: So what would you recommend? (68,332) (68,336) by Marissa from USA
When it's time for promotion, Mariah goes on 3 or 4 talk shows that no one gives a damn about, spends 97% of the time talking about her personal life, never does a live performance and then we say that staying relevant nowadays just isn't the same. No, Mariah just hasn't fully committed to doing promo since TEOM, and she was no spring chicken back then and still had major success. We can't say that the methods that other artists use to promote won't be effective for Mariah if she's been giving a half-assed effort to promotion for 11 years. First of all, she needs to stop giving fuel to news about her throwing shade and making ridiculous diva demands (like the "inconvenience fee"). Yes, it gets her attention, but I know more people who despise MC more than ever before because her reputation is that she is mean and out of touch with reality. When people think of you that way, they may follow you on Instagram to see the next degrading thing you do, but they won't invest in your music. Secondly, she needs to promote consistently and not start too early. She has a habit of coming out and saying that something is coming soon and either disappearing for months without acknowledging it or just straight up abandons the project. Thirdly, she needs to start performing on talkshows again. That way she gives people who wouldn't have otherwise known or cared about her music a chance to listen and buy. If she goes on a talk show and only talks about jewelry, puppies and kids, it's no wonder that people don't make the connection and buy her music. If she made it appear that music was her #1 priority, other people would fall in line. Last but not least, she needs to make amazing music again. That includes working with more relevant producers. Obviously from my analysis, I'm talking about an improved approach to music promo. I'm not even going to address how to better promote MW because that shouldn't even be happening in the first place.

Stella needs to be fired (68,335) by SM from Citizen of the World
Mariah needs to fire Stella as soon as possible.

Re: So what would you recommend? (68,332) (68,334) by RibbonB from USA
She could have tried a more authentic working on myself through therapy to self empowerment era. Or the professional mom and musician era. Now we are getting the "delusional gold-digger diva for social media" era? She has a myriad of ways to "be relevant". But if she wants to follow the Kardashian model of relevancy, then so it is and she will deal with the consequences or the reward only this time she has two children involved, which makes this more desperate plea for attention seem all the more reckless.

So what would you recommend? (68,332) by Edouard from France
I mean I get it, some of us are bored, fed up with the "stay in the spotlight strategy" Mariah and her team have been deploying lately. Hope I'm clear. I get it and I'm not necessarily thrilled with everything but I also understand the advertising landscape we are in in today's world. I think I do at least. Some of us make very valid points, IMO, when it comes to publicity and stuff so what would you all recommend Mariah should do? Before you answer, please realize that Mariah wants/needs to stay relevant. And no she can't do it like Adele, because Adele is still a new artist in people's mind and Mariah [...] it like Adele would be more like Mariah [...] it like Barbra, who is an icon yes but who is not even remotely in the spotlight. I believe Mariah is sometimes borderline with her image (has been since 1997 by the way, considering some of her ensembles at the time, within the fashion world at the time). But I also know Mariah will never cross the line. Let's not forget that Mariah's always been good with promotion. She knows how to present herself to be relevant. I believe she's always been a watcher growing up, she learnt from others, from her mum's musical world, from the Sonny environment at well. And sometimes you learn from the best and from the worst.
- Mariah first came out a the young singer, shy and soulful
- Pop princess
- Flirting with hip-hop
- Pop, turn of the century in order to rival with the pop acts from that time (you all remember?) and she turned it as a joke
- The comeback era
- The mum era
- The "I'm divorced, got money, so what deal with it I've earned it" era. In terms of her image she is very in "the now. But unlike some other acts she has owned the right to do so IMO.
Side-note: Let's not become the old folks who critized her when she first wore her pink top in the Heartbreaker video. We all loved it because we were the demographics and it worked for me and still does.

I agree Licia. I'm not impressed with the line-up so far. Patti is amazing of course but she is also Mariah's comfort zone. If Teyena is any indication, VH1 will fill the remaining slots with other C-listers that no one really cares about. This will potentially not be the kind of show that I had hoped it would be. But I'm definitely ready for a new Mariah/Patti collab. Both singers make excellent duet partners, with each other and with other singers.

Article: Teyana Taylor joins Mariah for the diva holiday special (68,328) by Licia from USA
See there they go messing up the line up already with the new "divas". Don't get me wrong, Teyana Taylor has talent and she has a couple catchy songs, but she's more known now for how quickly she went back to a size zero after her pregnancy than she is for her music.

Dem kids (68,327) by Licia from USA
That's an uber cute pic of the her and the kids. That's the one thing I miss since I unfollowed her on Instagram. I'm always here for the babies. I'll just have to try to ignore the Boomerang clips of her breasts on a table and the smug pics with Stella. Lol.

Re: New promo for France (68,307) (68,326) by Marissa from USA
I second that. I'm done. The nightly Mariah and Bryan sightings are having the opposite effect that they are intending on me, I'm bored af with them. My passion for Mariah has drastically declined. I've even been forgetting to check the messageboard lately. It's too hard to watch your favorite singer who always seemed like she had integrity, pimp herself out for cheap and fleeting attention and money. I would rather downgrade to checking up on her every once in a while rather than watching a daily play-by-play of her life, only to walk away feeling frustrated, pissed off, disgusted, embarrassed and ignored as a fan. Call me when either: a. Stella get's fired b. Mariah wins/gets nominated for a major award. c. Mariah puts out new music. d. Mariah takes on a new and challenging acting role. Those are literally the only 4 things that I give a f*** about at this point. I don't want to touch her personal life with a 10-foot pole. It's a mess. Career only, like it used to be.

Good outcome? (68,324) by RibbonB from USA
I can predict one good outcome for this show, but it would be a big spoiler to mention my thoughts. The set up thus far for this show makes it seem bleak and very contrived IMO. Whatever happens, I hope it is worth it to her. Again, I hope Stella fades away like yesterday.

Re: Mariah's Wack World (68,322) (68,323) by RibbonB from USA
Unfortunately it may take all of those things you mentioned because she is turning off a lot of the people who would have watched it, her fans. But she is all in, so best wishes to her children. I don't give two sticks about Stella and crew. I have said from the beginning that I think this show is a terrible idea, but she is trolling like Trump and she will have to go through with it. I hope it will be far shorter than four years though. I hope for great music sometime in the future.

Mariah's World (68,322) by Luke from United Kingdom
Lets be honest, in this day and age people aren't going to watch a show about Mariah unless there is drama and she knows it. Hopefully it's just a dash of drama at the minute to get people talking. I'm thinking this might lead to an album next year some time. I'll be happy as long as she doesn't have a sex tape leaked, doesn't get married and divorced within a month, has a child and calls it South or gets butt implants which could pass as a side table and declares it as "natural".

Re: Christmas compilations (68,306) (68,321) by Bill from the UK
I don't know if it still applies, but in the original Sony days, Mariah never appeared on any compilation albums. It was not unusual for many of the big name artists to not be on compilations, it was a technique to encourage album sales. Also, if the compilation is not by Sony, then I imagine it would be quite expensive for another record company to license such a popular song.

Re: New promo for France (68,300) (68,319) by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada
I don't really look at the publicity machine tactics as solely a Mariah issue. We make up society. We get to choose whether to engage or not in these types of games, and until we decide we've had enough of this kind of approach and look deeper, it's going to keep happening. We can't just sit and blame or judge the people who feel pressured to compete in the arena, or who feel there is something to gain out of it.

Wrapped In Red is golden. Especially that title track. So lovely. And Michael Buble's Christmas album may potentially outsell Mariah's first Christmas offering if it keeps selling the way it does. Jazz-pop fanbases are very loyal.

I meant "she's no cookie-cutter type of girl nor is she the opposite as some of us tend to want her to be". Let her be Mariah. That's how we fell in love with her after all.

Re: When will it get back to the music? (68,313) (68,315) by G.G. from USA
Agreed. I checked out when all the drama with the Packer breakup was happening. I have no interest in this crap. For someone who has repeatedly dogged reality tv shows, Mariah's life has turned into one. Congratulations, I guess ?
