That was awesome, thanks for posting. I don't think I've ever seen that otherwise I don't remember. She sounded fantastic.

Jojo's song is certainly lovely. I adore Ed Sheeran though. His catalog is stellar in its own right. I've got a lot of respect for him as a person and artist. I was thinking the other day, some of my favorite musicians are from the UK and Ireland. Ed, Coldplay, George Michael, Damien Rice, to name only a few. I won't get my hopes up for Ed to work with my fave vocalist ever (Mariah) but I have been saying for a long while now that it would be so cool for Mariah to venture deep into her singer/songwriter roots and pull something magical out of her bag. Regardless of what she chooses to do, I'm excited to see what's next for her.

Adele and 25 (58,823)
by Terna from Nigeria
| |
|
|
Before I go further let me clarify that I'm a lover of Adele, have all 3 of her albums and some of her songs have never left my music playlist. Having said that, I'd give my two cents on her singing and most recent album 25. Adele is not on my top ten list of fave female singers for obvious reasons. She seems to sing in just one key, and for someone who's a fan of Mariah Carey I find that a big minus for her. What carries her is her storytelling ability in song (something Carey also possesses). But she lacks soul which Mariah Carey has in droves. Hello is the strongest song and vocal performance on 25. Thus the first single pick it got to great effect. However that doesn't make the whole album an automatic A+ in my book. I found it to be a total snoozefest with the exception of Hello. No other songs really stuck out and sat in my mind the way Hello did and even with that song, I got tired of quick. So why all the Adele vs Mariah comparisms? She's not even close lyrically talk less of vocally for Mariah to take notes from as I've seen some of you post here. What an insult to Mariah Carey.

Are you for real? What you described is what makes Mariah miles ahead of her peers, her ability to make 3D music (for lack of a better term). And you wanna speak about her craft and I dare say perfect harmonies like they don't matter and comparing someone as basic as Adele (yeah finally someone called it as it truly is, she isn't the second coming of Christ) more relatable? Have several seats for that. The number of trolls that have infested this message board over the years is worrying. Happy New Mariah Carey filled and saturated year guys. We both know she's coming for heads this time.

Hi Norman. this_is_qhm made my point about it being relatable a bit clearer. I'm not disputing her influence since VOL, nor her legacy because there is no question about it. I never said that no one finds Mariah relatable, because (from my own personal experience) that is not the case. What I mean is, is that her songs can be complex and that can turn off the average music listener. Her whisper register, and overlapping melodies (which I personally adore) just doesn't translate well to non-fans because you have to really pay attention to her what she's singing about. If I'm travelling with friends/in a large group of people, I really have to concentrate on which MC songs not to play, because I know that it will be changed. With Adele, you don't have to pay attention. What I mean by "once in a lifetime", is the rare event that we are all witnessing in terms of sales and records, especially in an era when music sales are dropping. When was the last time an album had three or so platinum selling weeks, and is quickly on track to being certified Diamond before January is half-way through? Especially when music sales are (still) going down. That's why I say it's a once in a lifetime thing, because I just don't believe that this will happen again any time soon.

Tevin, I like When We Were Young but I think Hello is a stronger song/single. I enjoy the album but I think her last album was superior.

Seeing Mariah Carey in Las Vegas as the highlight of my year. My wish for the new year is a new album or song from Mariah. I want new music. I'm still listening to and enjoying MIAMTEC. MIAM is a classic.

Marissa, my favorite Mariah moment (moments) of 2015 were attending the second night of her Las Vegas residency and being in the video for Infinity directed by Brett.

Reinvention (58,813)
by George Golden from UK

The problem is the predictability of every thing Mariah does now it's just frustrating. Tacky videos, mediocre lead singles, hip hop collaborations that have been beaten to death, shaky live performances the list goes on. On the flip side she is looking really good with James. She always looked old standing by Nick. She is definitely looking really classy now. With Nick she was trying too hard to look twenty something. She needs to do something different and reinvent her style. Big disco numbers and big pop ballads would be refreshing. Just saying. Please no more rappers.

New year, new album, new sound (58,812)

Happy 2016 everyone. Can you believe we're nearing 2 years since MIAMTEC was released? With Mariah's new beau, her career rebound especially during the second half of 2015, and the rumors of new collaborations, I'm really hoping Mariah can release a record later this year. It doesn't have to be a long player. It can be short and sweet (10-12 tracks, with maybe just 2 bonus songs all clocking in at under 50 minutes like she did before Butterfly) as long as it's lean and free of filler. I also wish she would also have a more minimalist approach towards the production to highlight her vocals. She should showcase her lower register more and avoid those high notes that she may not be able to replicate outside the studio. And as much as I love her complex harmonies, I hope she uses them more sparingly and wisely. I have noticed that when she does them especially in her whisper voice, it gets harder to comprehend what she is singing, making the end product pretty but less sing-able and therefore less relatable to the average music lover. I'd love for her to do a straightforward, simple song like my latest obsession, "Thinkin Out Loud" by JoJo from her latest EP "#LoveJo2". Notice how the production, while moody and atmospheric, still lets her voice and emotions shine, and how the simpler vocal makes it even more appealing. This song first came out pretty much as an interlude in JoJo's 2012 EP "Agape". Lovely and honest. It even makes Ed Sheeran's similarly titled track sound phoney.

Vegas ticket (58,811)
by Manny from U.S.

Hi guys, Happy New Year Lambs. I have a little problem. I bought a ticket for the February 19 show in Vegas. It's a Friday. It's a good ticket as its 3rd row. Unfortunately I cannot make it. I live in San Diego, California. I rather sell it to a lamb here in SD, since it can be a more clear transaction. Does anyone else know how I else can sell it? I'm even willing to lose on it. I just want someone to go. Maybe next time, I can see her that close.

Andrew. I am breaking my code of silence and say I like this side of you very much. I like knowing you are excited for the U.K. shows and want to see great things at the show. I must say, I think I might have overreacted a bit to you this year and for that I apologize. I don't apologize often but you are too persistent and I love it. My biggest quality is my persistence. Often as lambs we fight but we appreciate each other and want the best for our Mother Lamb in our own way. I feel like we are this dysfunctional family of lambs in a manger with different sounds and walks of life. Anyway, even though what we say about Mariah can be mistaken as harsh or soft and sometimes we will agree to disagree, I appreciate your commitment, desire, dedication, and at times mean approach to wanting the best for our queen. Happy New Year 2016.

I agree Adele album is amazing, not as good as 21 but still a solid effort. I wish and hope Mariah will go back to sing with her voice as a highlight like it was her first four albums before all of the layering. Beautiful was a good example of Mariah's voice in the forefront and you know what, people loved it.

Same stuff but creates a moving show with her lower register (live) and moves everyone. So many UK shows I expect people are flying in. Non lambs will want to hear the hits but I think she can drop Dreamlover, Fantasy (no point for Europe as the rnb tie in doesn't matter here), I suggest VOL, Emotions, Hero, Open Arms, ABMB, Honey, My All, The Roof, Heartbreaker, WBT, TMB, Beautiful. Leaves songs to fit into the theme. I suggest Languishing, Can't Let Go, Close My Eyes, Petals, Say Something, Almost Home.

2015: A year in review (58,802)
by Marissa from USA
| |
|

2014 left me feeling frustrated, hopeless and dismayed for MC's career and legacy. 2015 has turned all 3 of those emotions around for me. Her body looks wonderful, she is happier, her outfits are on point, the media is no longer making her the butt of every joke and I can be confident that when I click on a recent performance that she will sound good. I'm happy that she now has a team that is legitimately working rather than riding her coattails and contributing nothing significant. My favorite part of her silver anniversary was this holiday season. The Christmas movie was cute, the Beacon shows were stellar, Mariah's Christmas Sketchtacular was hilarious and the clips that I've seen of her Australian New Years performance were excellent. Overall this year of excellence was just what the doctor ordered for her to reclaim her throne. What was your favorite Mariah moment of 2015?
