Re: What Mariah song brings you to tears? (58,842) (58,843) by MIAM from United Kingdom
The song "Cry" off MIAM brought me to tears last year. It's such an emotional song, one of my favourites of all time from Mariah.

The Wind. Such a hauntingly beautiful and emotional song.

Adele (58,841) by JAXGH from United States
I'm so over Adele being brought up. Yay she's talented and has a good voice. But she is nowhere close to Mariah's vocal capability and achievements. They both have their own style obviously but Mariah's tone, vocals and artistry stay unmatched. Adele doesn't even come close. Not even a little bit. Adele is ordinary. Mariah is extraordinary. Congrats on Adele's success though. Yes I'm being a total biased lamb right now but it's the truth anyway even if I wasn't a lambily lmfao. I'm not afraid to keep it real. And as always, we have to wish new artists the best of luck. I hope that Adele can also achieve longevity.

Re: Reinvention (58,834) (58,837) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
"MIAM failed because of the multiple delays and Mariah abandoning the project because of personal and professional issues at the time." So true. MIAM could have been massive otherwise. It had a lot of potential. After releasing #Beautiful, a lot of time was wasted. They were releasing singles at random and not even following through with promotions. I mean they released 2 solid singles "Thirsty" and YDKWTD which had the potential of at least a top ten but they just abandoned it. It was a single only by name because they got zero promo, zero mentions, no video. It's all just sad really. This was the time when people were hyped for a Mariah return and things just fell flat. It's like E=MC2 heartbreak 2.0 because good Lord did Mariah miss a huge, and I mean humongous opportunity when she let E=MC2 die. It had potential to be even bigger than TEOM because at that time Mariah could do no wrong plus E=MC2 was full of potential singles that would burn up the charts. I will never get over this.

What Mariah song brings you to tears? (58,836) by Randy from USA
I'm tryna be more positive since most of you think I hate MC. I still love you Adam lol. So I was in DC recently and listening to a certain playlist and MC's Petals came on, and dammit if my eyes didn't well up. What MC song brings you to tears?

Rolling In The Lols (58,835) by Will from England
Did someone really just say and suggest I'm a troll? Look, I respect both artists for their craft. Both are different in terms of writing styles and vocal ability. That, for me, does not mean one is better than the other because both are good. Both Mariah and Adele are talented musicians and artists in their own respective ways that can be appreciated. And for the record, I would never stoop to the point of calling another record-breaking talented artist "basic", because that (caps) is insulting, disrespectful and degrading. I'm not going into how much I admire and respect Mariah's musicianship because I've done that a thousand times already.

Re: Reinvention (58,813) (58,834) by B from USA
Predictability isn't a bad thing. Adele's latest album was/is predictable. Mariah's MIAMTEC wasn't predictable. Opening an album with Cry. is hardly predictable. She has access to unreleased songs recorded during her Columbia/Sony years and I'm sure she's still capable of writing another #1 song. I want another Butterfly with songs like Butterfly, The Roof, Breakdown, Close My Eyes, and Outside. I want well written songs and amazing videos. E=MC2 and Memoirs failed because of IDJ's single choices MIAM failed because of the multiple delays and Mariah abandoning the project because of personal and professional issues at the time.

Adele doesn't write as well as Mariah and she definitely can't sing as well as Mariah did and does.

Hello at number 1 (58,832) by Ty from USA
Hello is a good single and the cd is good but it falls short of the first two. All I ask is a hit, but Bruno Mars dropped the production bar. Why does she sound more intense and passionate singing it live? She still ain't no Mariah.

I have to ask you the same thing. Are "you" for real? Calling someone as talented like Adele "basic" is just wrong. You're entitled to your opinion but it's pretty ridiculous. Her music may be what is basic, but certainly not her voice. She's one of the most powerful singers of today. And I think her gift is pretty special and unique.

Hello warning (58,830) by David F from Mexico
I am starting to worry about Adele's hit, she is 9 nine weeks at no. 1 on the Hot 100. I hope the Biebs can top her in the coming weeks. I do not see a stronger contender than him.

But happy new year, everyone. Mariah have been doing so well in 2015, especially the second half of it like someone said. I hope that 2016 is when she finally pulls out something really big and proves everybody wrong. The Lambily and Mariah have been doing it throughout the 90s and again in 2005, so why not 2016? The Second Coming of Mimi, let's make it happen (plays 1995 MSG performance of Make It Happen).

Jojo's song is certainly lovely. I adore Ed Sheeran though. His catalog is stellar in its own right. I've got a lot of respect for him as a person and artist. I was thinking the other day, some of my favorite musicians are from the UK and Ireland. Ed, Coldplay, George Michael, Damien Rice, to name only a few. I won't get my hopes up for Ed to work with my fave vocalist ever (Mariah) but I have been saying for a long while now that it would be so cool for Mariah to venture deep into her singer/songwriter roots and pull something magical out of her bag. Regardless of what she chooses to do, I'm excited to see what's next for her.

Adele and 25 (58,823) by Terna from Nigeria
Before I go further let me clarify that I'm a lover of Adele, have all 3 of her albums and some of her songs have never left my music playlist. Having said that, I'd give my two cents on her singing and most recent album 25. Adele is not on my top ten list of fave female singers for obvious reasons. She seems to sing in just one key, and for someone who's a fan of Mariah Carey I find that a big minus for her. What carries her is her storytelling ability in song (something Carey also possesses). But she lacks soul which Mariah Carey has in droves. Hello is the strongest song and vocal performance on 25. Thus the first single pick it got to great effect. However that doesn't make the whole album an automatic A+ in my book. I found it to be a total snoozefest with the exception of Hello. No other songs really stuck out and sat in my mind the way Hello did and even with that song, I got tired of quick. So why all the Adele vs Mariah comparisms? She's not even close lyrically talk less of vocally for Mariah to take notes from as I've seen some of you post here. What an insult to Mariah Carey.

Are you for real? What you described is what makes Mariah miles ahead of her peers, her ability to make 3D music (for lack of a better term). And you wanna speak about her craft and I dare say perfect harmonies like they don't matter and comparing someone as basic as Adele (yeah finally someone called it as it truly is, she isn't the second coming of Christ) more relatable? Have several seats for that. The number of trolls that have infested this message board over the years is worrying. Happy New Mariah Carey filled and saturated year guys. We both know she's coming for heads this time.

Re: Will from the UK and Adele's success (58,790) (58,820) by Will from England
Hi Norman. this_is_qhm made my point about it being relatable a bit clearer. I'm not disputing her influence since VOL, nor her legacy because there is no question about it. I never said that no one finds Mariah relatable, because (from my own personal experience) that is not the case. What I mean is, is that her songs can be complex and that can turn off the average music listener. Her whisper register, and overlapping melodies (which I personally adore) just doesn't translate well to non-fans because you have to really pay attention to her what she's singing about. If I'm travelling with friends/in a large group of people, I really have to concentrate on which MC songs not to play, because I know that it will be changed. With Adele, you don't have to pay attention. What I mean by "once in a lifetime", is the rare event that we are all witnessing in terms of sales and records, especially in an era when music sales are dropping. When was the last time an album had three or so platinum selling weeks, and is quickly on track to being certified Diamond before January is half-way through? Especially when music sales are (still) going down. That's why I say it's a once in a lifetime thing, because I just don't believe that this will happen again any time soon.

Tevin, I like When We Were Young but I think Hello is a stronger song/single. I enjoy the album but I think her last album was superior.
