Shelly (looking out) (54,593) by Andrew from UK
I think Gospel or Standards are a great sound but I think Mariah could incorporate them into a new sound of hers later on, not do it as a stop gap. I think music artists record their best work when they disappear and come back with a cathartic outpouring, and create songs of experience. I keep thinking of Madonna's Ray Of Light. Everyone counted Madonna out. She all but disappeared. She was middle of the road for 5 years and forgettable. But we all know that album as being a shock and of a time in our lives. Mariah has been hit-maker and never left her formula much, even though it's not winning anyone over anymore. And the sob story songs (don't get me wrong I sing them all the time) aren't washing with people anymore. It must be really hard to let go. And a little scary. But then it's never easy. I think she can do it. What sound it should be I have no idea. I'm not musically creative. But I do buy music and watch the trends like everyone else. Let her comeback (and that's what it has to be) be unique and born of a reinvention. If she just has the balls to try it, I will never complain again. So, I guess, the idea is: instead of looking in, I would say Mariah needs to start looking out. And, in a way, I'll work on that, myself.

I love Mariah's cleavage. And I love when Mariah shows those two big ole tiggle bitties off. Just saying.

Adam, mate, I'm always on point. You people just be all Tea. (Yeah, I don't know what it means, so I just use it in random places now to confuse people.) The previous post is pretty much what I've been advising in semi-loud tones from the rooftops for two years, amongst the ravings. Actually, I just said it differently. I will add this: if she doesn't go away and reinvent herself, she should retire. It's only going to go one way, otherwise. But like I said, I considered just giving her up a couple of days ago after the posts on here. I questioned whether I would, in this small corner of my life, be happier. But I'm not giving up on her. As an aside, to everyone else, play, or just read and hear, MIAM in this order, and ask yourself what other Mariah album it reminds you of:
1. Meteorite
2. The Art of Letting Go
3. Beautiful
4. Cry.
5. You Don't Know What To Do
6. Make It Look Good
7. Money (S * /. . . )
8. Dedicated
9. One More Try
10. Heavenly (No Way's Tired/ Can't Give Up Now)
Answers on a postcard.

Board of experts (54,590) by Bino from
How lovely to see so much judgment being tossed around in this board. Mariah is fat in here, Mariah doesn't look good in that dress. And, amazingly, so much expertise being shared. Mariah needs to do this, Mariah needs to stop doing that. Mariah is indeed lucky.

You all stay reading Mariah on here (54,589) by Lamb_O_Chop from Australia
But I do agree with her reinventing herself with the next album and getting her voice all the way back together. I know she still has it in her to go to an award show and just mop the floor with everybody.

Genius (54,588) by Kyle from USA
This "Game of War" announcement is genius. Once again, Mariah Carey knocks us out of left field with something no one would have ever expected. This will connect her to a whole new audience and get her music in people's face. Mariah is a determined person which is why I respect her so much. She refuses to "drop off the radar". I say kudos.

I can see clearer now (54,587) by Marissa from USA
You all have refreshed my morning with these insightful posts. Now I finally understand the reason I haven't listened to the MIAM since the month it came out. It was a good album, but I felt like I'd heard it all before. The only song that impressed me with it's deviation from the formula was Meteorite. Everything else felt like a part 2 to all of her other past hits. Mariah needs to trust that she can succeed outside of her comfort zone. Look what a gem of an album Butterfly was which was very different from her 90-95 formula. Even songs like #Beautiful and Meteorite were successful attempts at stepping outside of the box musically. Also, I hope that this Game Of War deal is true. I like it for the simple fact that it's unexpected for Mariah to do. This is also a very unique and effective way to expose her to the younger generation. I'm very excited.

I think it is a fantastic idea that Mariah will be the new face of "Game of War". Great news in my opinion. Have a great weekend everyone.

New direction (54,585) by George Golden from UK
Mariah needs a new direction. Why is she still doing these kind of juvenile stuff? She can be amazing if she wants to but she is still bent on doing hip hop rnb and that has been her downfall. People don't care to look for her album once the first single is released because it's usually a hip hop sound so they just conclude it's full of hip hop. Why is she been praised as having a hour glass figure in that dress in Paris? She didn't look good at all in that dress. Mariah needs people who can tell her the truth, it seems like she has got yes people around her. #Beautiful is the best single she has released since Touch My Body but the video and luckluster promotion just killed that song. So many wasted oportunities. She needs to get out of her confort zone asap. Do a James Bond soundtrack or any other blockbuster movie, collaborate with current producers, do a full album with a group like Daft Punk, collaborate with Pharell, stop repeating the same format time and time again. Please dont give up Mariah, just try new things and a new look. Music will not be the same without you.

Thoughts / randomness (54,584) by clueey23 from USA
Am I the only one who thinks "We Belong Together" stands on its own? I don't think any of her other songs sound like that. Even "Infinity" stands on its own. Even though a lot of songs have similar themes, they all sound different to me. I also agree that she should refrain from using the 18 #1s after the #1 To Infinity Vegas shows are over. MC has such a huge strong catalogue. I can't wait for the days when we can hear those album cuts live. Or even if she rearranged the songs like she did with "Thank God I Found You" for the fans. Bump the people that don't know the album cuts. I think it's awesome she is doing the theater again for the Christmas shows. I will most definitely be in NYC to see her. I want to see MC for 4th of July again. but I want to hear "Fourth of July", "Infinity" and "America the Beautiful". I first paid attention to MC in the 3rd grade. "Daydream" was the album and "Fantasy" was the cut. I remember asking "What does hectic mean?" Oh to be a kid again. I remember people would bring Brandy into conversation back then and even at that age, I was the fan like nope, she's your favorite singer's favorite singer. Lol.

Response to Andrew (54,581) by ADAM from USA
Andrew your comments are on the money today. My sentiments exactly. Mariah needs to rehaul her career. She's been on repeat mode since 1999 in my opinion with Rainbow being a clone copy of all her previous hits - Dreamlover, Underneath The Stars, My All to name a few. Unfortunately she is so bullish about reinventing her material. I want her to stop going back to the same writing partners and using JD and Jimmy Jam. That well is tapped dry and no one wants a rehash of familiar sounding jams. She's got so much talent but refuses to see the light. I personally don't care about her weight but will admit that dressing the way she does doesn't flatter her figure when she's clearly not a size 0 anymore. This is no shade just the truth. If it were up to me she would have signed Clive Davis and worked with partners in different genres like Daft Punk and Bruno Mars to create a concept album. She's lost a lot of credibility in the publics eyes and needs to regain her artistry in the form of a great album that no ones expecting. I know it won't happen but one can wish right? After all she said at one point that she'd never perform I Don't Wanna Cry and Someday and now look at her.

Reinvention (54,580) by Andrew from UK
Taking a break doesn't necessarily mean just stopping to disappear for a while, it can be about reinvention: considering new sounds, getting new experiences and a new outlook for lyrical creativity (no more cringe cougar-down-with-the-kids "tea" stuff), actually doing something about her voice, meeting new people (new producers, new friends, even). Fans who are dribbling at the thought of new music from Mariah that isn't going to bomb are, dare I say... She needs a reinvention, a sound and image overhaul, as Madonna did with Ray Of Light, or Whitney did with My Love Is Your Love. Taking a break - a year or two - to reinvent herself could work. Jumping into a studio with Jermaine Dupri and bashing out another similar sounding album with similar cover with similar stagecraft won't. And, I will say, if to certain people that sounds like I like the Mariah of bygone eras and I don't like the current Mariah - well, you may think so, and you may well be right. But I prefer not to give up. I can't believe she brought me this far to leave me.

Special K (54,579) by Randy from USA
Firstly, welcome back dahling. Your presence has been missed. You hit it right on the head. When MC performs at these awards shows and she is known for her voice, it is embarrassing how other female singers come up and look comfortable and blow. And don't give me that MC songs are hard to sing, or how long MC has been performing.

Next album (54,578) by Jake from New Zealand
I think for her new album, she needs to stop using the old format (i.e. trying to recreate WBT) and do more up tempos. We need a lead single from her that people can sing along to, with fun lyrics (but not immature ones like in Infinity) a very radio friendly song. If she's going to keep producing boring songs like Infinity then she should stop making music. And I know a lot of you think MIAM has some of her best work, but I really wasn't impressed with it and it's my least favourite Mariah album. Most of the songs were boring (Cry, Money, You're Mine) or lacked something (Make It Look Good). The production was boring and the lyrics weren't her best. So she should try to collaborate with more producers/songwriters. And last but not least, she needs to lose the weight. That's unfortunately the first thing people criticises her for. She loves to wear outfits that show off her body, and there's nothing wrong with that, but she doesn't have the body for them. Go back to AI weight, Mariah.

The seven figure reality check a.k.a. Mariah ain't going nowhere but everywhere (54,577) by Baby from Dreamville...Where There's No Beginning & There is No End
I love the new cocky, unapolagetic, take-no-prisoners Mariah. Finally that part of her is being fully emancipated to the public. And her team is airtight, no leaks, they all understand the enemy they are dealing with. I bet you the God Of War people have seen the Infinity video clips, along with her other stellar looks from this era, and immediately sent for a raven to summon her, I mean, no offence to Kate Upton but she's got nothing on Mariah at any age, at least not yet. Of course she is smart enough to harness the synergy and be involved with the music production etc. But my favourite thing about this whole get is that it is something new and targets a completely new demo, although, Mariah could be a secret gamer and us mere mortals would have no clue. I hope we get to see her riding a horse and playing an Epic character with an accent (i. e. not American). Come rule us Khalessi, expand your empire to infinity and beyond. And just for fun at 0:30.

Me I am Mariah (54,576) by Giovanni from USA
Is definitely a great album. It's the best piece of work Mariah has put out since "The Emancipation Of Mimi". The era kicked off to a great start with her looking amazing and fresh. And releasing a great single. It can easily be done again. She just needs a new look and sound. I was so disappointed with "Infinity" because it wasn't that good of a song at all. She can do much better. Also, it would be nice for Mariah to collaborate with new artists. She's at a point in her career where she needs to try new things and take risks.

Mariah less cleavage (54,573) by ktktkt from Philippines
I agree that she she should not expose her cleavage as much because it cheapens her look. We know that she's still hot and looks 10 years younger than her actual age. Her looks in Paris are on point, she should stick to it "religiously" lol. Please minimize ball gowns and be more to casual as it makes her more "ordinary" and therefore can be perceived as less diva. Image is as important as talent as well. Imagine should [...] wearing too skimpy clothes and expose her cleavage on a regular basis, would the public take her seriously? I remember when my aunt asked me for a gift suggestion for her daughter, I have told her to buy Mariah's Around The World DVD, she was taken a back and told me that she doesn't want her daughter to be raunchy when she grows up. Obviously, she's not following Mariah's career and she's just judging Mariah based on her clothes. That was around 2001 when Mariah's [..] mv is overplayed in MTV channel. I didnt bother to argue with her though.

Mariah reality check (54,572) by ktktkt from Philippines
She should realize right now that too much of yes men in her team will do no good in her career. I can still see in her eyes that she still wants a hit and probably chasing the history of having the most #1 songs of all time. Being no. 1 is always associated with her name so she has to make adjustments on her end. I know that she has nothing left to prove at this point and can definitely do "whatever" songs and release them as she pleased. However, we lambs are always rooting for her and it affects us when the public disrespects and bash her when she "flops" because not hitting no. 1 record is automatically a "flop" on Mariah standards. It tends to tarnish her legendary status somehow. Anyway, public having such high expectations of her really means she's still relevant. How I wish she's checking this board because we have a lot of bright ideas for her to claim her throne again.

Game of War (54,570) by Luke from United Kingdom
I don't know if it's going to happen but it's going around that Mariah is going to replace Kate Upton for the Game of War commercials, and her music is going to be the focal point of the ad. I seriously hope this happens since it might mean advertisement for new music.

New producers (54,569) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
Okay, MIAMTEC was a great album. It was her best work since TEOM. But if I had any complaint about that album as a whole, it's that at least 90% of it is familiar. While the tunes are great for the most part, they seem like rehashes of her past work to varying degrees of success. To me, this is due to Mariah's reliance on producers she has already worked with in the past. There's a reason why #Beautiful has pretty much received zero negative critical reviews - it was the freshest she has sounded since It's Like That. Literally nothing about it echoes her past work. So it shouldn't be a coincidence that it was one of the few tracks on the album where Mariah has ventured on new grounds producer-wise. That's also why Migrate is one of the most striking tracks off E=MC2. So unless she strays from her predilection for working with her friends, I'm afraid she won't be able to move on from her current sound, which is by no means bad, but somehow restricts her growth as an artist. I'd love for her to go more of the indie route (Dev Hynes, The Elev3n, R8DIO, Kevin Kadish, No I.D., etc.) rather than the hottest ones at the moment (Pharrell, Max Martin, Zedd, etc.), although they'll do too. But if she's still gonna insist to work with those she already had in the past, then at least reunite with those who she hasn't collaborated with in a long time (Babyface, Walter Afanasieff, Jimmy & Terry, etc.). As much as Mariah is in control of her sound, she is also a great producer's muse.
