Charmbracelet tour in Zürich (57,457) by Philipp from Switzerland
On this very day 12 years ago, October 22nd 2003, I went to my first and only (so far) Mariah Carey Concert in Zürich, Switzerland. I still remember it so well, it was an amazing concert. I'm so happy that someone filmed the entire concert and that it's on YouTube, so I can re-watch it at every anniversary.

Is that why when Mariah sang with Pattie on a song, I can't remember the name of it, but when Pattie belted really loud when Mariah hit a whistle? I agree with what you said, it reminds of the scene in Dream Girls when Jennifer Hudson is mad at Beyounce because Bey was cheating with Jen man and when they were singing Jen was singing with her full voice and was drowning Bey's voice out.

I'll Be There (Thanksgiving special) video and mp3 (57,455) by Edward from USA
I'm also in the US and I couldn't access the video. So it was a challenge for me, and I was able to extract an mp3 and video. Since the video or mp3 of this particular performance is not for sale, I don't think it would constitute piracy sharing it with you guys in here. They are in my dropbox folder, so you can either watch and listen or download them. Enjoy.

I'll shut up for now / my favorite things (57,454) by Randy from USA
Andrew I hate beer and love liquor. And Bino and Lamb O Chop I have been screaming this stuff from the top of my lungs for ever, I'll move on. Do you guys think with all of this Christmas hoopla, she will record and finally release a cover of "My Favorite Things"? Maybe as a stand alone single or to go with her movie. She said a long time ago it was one of her favorite songs of all time. When she released MCIIY I just knew it would be on there.

Why does Vevo not let me play it? It says it's not available in my country. I live in the U.S.

Missing Mariah (57,451) by Jono from USA
Can I just say I miss my daily dose of Mariah? I know she just did promo for her Vegas show but that was five months ago, that's nearly half a year without Mariahisms on my TV. She keeps teasing us with those posts on Instagram and I am so excited for "A Christmas Melody". I hope she will go on another press tour come December and we can get some more fabulous moments.

Divas live (57,450) by Giovanni from USA
I would say that Mariah was the star that night. She sounded the best and looked the best. "Make it happen" was the best performance. When I watch it I wish I could have been there to experience the joy and excitement of seeing Mariah live. Say what you want about her voice as of now. We will probably never hear one like hers again.

Re: VH1 Divas Live 1998 (57,438) (57,449) by Giovanni from USA
Patti Labelle is a dramatic soprano. And her voice is much more stronger and powerful than Aretha's. Even if I wasn't in Aretha's league, I still would never be scared to take her on. (Even though her voice died decades ago.) She sounds awful now. I disagree about Mariah. I think she definitely held back out of respect. Her voice was capable of going head to head with Aretha.

Makes me want to break out the dvd. I so remember curly hair being the thing at the time. Lol. I always loved this alternate version.

Photos on the set of ACM (57,447) by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada
Wow, she looks stunning in the photos being posted. I hope the movie is going to be watchable online, for people whose cable providers don't carry the channel. What's Christmas without little heartwarming movies? Lol.

Spot on post, Lamb_O_Chop. Talking about past performances, I'm happy to find that "I'll be there" (Thanksgiving) has finally been uploaded on MC Vevo. I imagine it to be harder to sing while sitting. But such a sweet, laid-back, angelic voice. She looked so beautiful too.

Mariah 97 and prior: Randy (57,444) by Lamb_O_Chop from Australia
Randy, Mariah has always been humble about her voice and respectful of her peers when collaborating even in her vocal peak. She never has tried to out sing anyone, and that's what I think people were referring to in general, that had Mariah been in best voice during divas live she still wouldn't have tried to go "toe to toe" with Aretha out of r-e-s-p-e-c-t. Pun intended. Clearly when they sung Chain A Fool, Mariah held back a little and allowed Aretha to be the star of her own song, because Mariah was in her zone on her parts. As for her voice: we are all aware that her vocal decline started in late 97, you're not the only person that's notice or spoke out about it. I just think most of us have come to terms with it by now, moved on, but continue to hope for the best. No shade to you but you come across as really depressed and pessimistic in all you post concerning Mariah. I get your disappointment because I had a lot of the same feelings (in the late 90s), but at some point I decided to let it go and embraced post 97 Mariah. I just don't see the point in harping on the past and being a miserable fan. It's not healthy.

Fellow lambs (57,443) by Travon..SweetSweetFantasy from USA
Come on guys. This is supposed to be the happiest time of the year. This is Mariah Carey's favorite season. If all of us were able to be in a classroom as students and Mariah was our teacher, she would not like that we can't get along. This back and forth on who is a true lamb needs to stop. Every fan has their own opinions. We all need to respect that on both sides. I have learned that arguing is a waste of time. If I don't like something said, as hard as it is to refrain myself, I have learned that it's better to move on.

You have forgotten your Lamb Bible, Randy! (57,440) by Andrew from UK
Hah Randy, you have forgotten yourself. I hate to quote scripture to you but: "And lo, Mariah doth have a right to lip-synceth, such is the word." (Lamb Bible, Book of Nonsense, Verse 3.) Furthermore, "Thou shalt pay thy hard-earned monies to go to listen to the lip-syncage, and none shalt question, or be they labelled a hater for all eternity." (Lamb Bible, Book of Mime, Verse 2.) Love the fact you are honest. It doesn't mean you don't love, it just means you love truthfully. I would buy you a beer if you weren't so far away. Ax.

Randy, you sound like a broken record indeed. So you are, in your own words, disgusted, infuriated, mortified by Mariah. Such strong words. What else is left to say? I suppose it's time for you to accept that Mariah's early 90s voice will never come back. You keep harping on old performances and talk about how bad they were. When will it end? We get it. Move on.

Re: VH1 Divas Live 1998 (57,382) (57,438) by darrian liu from taiwan
My theory is simply that her voice was overworked. We all know how she records her songs, doing takes until she felt that it was perfect. Try singing after a world tour full of difficult songs where you add your own higher belts and lower notes and intricate melismas and then recording an album where you have vocal slayers in it like Outside, Butterfly, etc. After her divorce, she drank a lot and hung around smokers which are detrimental to her voice. But personally, there are little flaws in the Daydream era technically in her voice. Her belts have less of that chesty power from her debut, which means her mix is more balanced, her placement is almost always on point (there was like very few misplaced notes, one of them in the E5 in I Don't Wanna Cry Tokyo Dome performance), her lows are solid and she improved her placement around C3. However she did start using the whispers. It could be one of the factor to her voice's decline. It is not recommended for people with nodules to sing airily like that. That could cause her nodules to thicken as it irritates the cords. Alcohol dries the voice and makes it harder to warm up. Technique wise, in 1997 it was intact. I think she knows that her voice has changed, that's probably why in 1997 when she belted, she would hold the mic so far away when in fact her voice is light as she is a light lyric coloratura soprano. In 1998 Divas Live, her voice was fine. Amazing lows and resonant well placed belts. The one in Chain of Fools were amazing. Keep in mind that in that show, Mariah's voice was the lightest. She strained in the last performancesas her voice can't be heard with the sheer voice of Aretha and others. Rainbow vocals happened because of lack of vocal discipline, in some recordings her voice sounded like she didn't warm up. 2003 had amazing vocals but her insecurity already implanted itself because I think she felt like her voice was waning. That would explain the wall of backing vocals in TTR. She did back out from Aretha's "help me lift it" out of respect, but she also knew that her lighter voice would be swallowed by Aretha'a big voice. Aretha's a Dramatic Soprano (if I'm not mistaken) and that's way bigger than a Light Lyric Coloratura Soprano. Mariah can resonate to a grand volume but no matter how good sheis, she would never be able to sound bigger than a Spinto or Dramatic Soprano with an equally good technique. That's already inborn, you can't change it artificially.

It's funny that you find B rude and not Randy's post (the eternal sarcastic Mariah-can't-sing-and-hence-he's-mortified comment). You don't find that rude to Mariah and her fans?

I'm a broken record for live audio debates (57,434) by Randy from USA
I thank everyone for their comments: good, bad and indifferent. I also thank the webmaster for posting my last message in its entirety. I read this board often and pay attention what people say. I have emailed a few of you back and forth and we've discussed how people on this board turn any criticism of MC turns into the criticizer being a hater. A lot of you don't understand how MCs music helps me through life. When I am feeling alone, I listen to Right To Dream, the saddest song ever written about having hope. When I am feeling devastated, I listen to Languishing, and wonder who is really there for me. When I'm feeling different, I listen to Outside. My All is one of the best love songs ever recorded. To me there is more emotion in that final hook than in Whitney's IWALY, Toni's UMH and Celine's MHWGO combined. I think lyrically MC is up there with Jewel, Sarah Mc, Lauryn Hill and other introspective songwriters. She deserves a lot of respect. But all the number ones in the world though can not make one a performer. So you all are ok with people saying, she's a studio singer? All the excuses in the world, divorces, nodules, sensitivity of voice, earpieces does not negate fact. When MCs voice changed and I heard her in 98, I figured that was her new sound and I went with it. So did she. Notice the full voice belts on SH, ISB, and WYB were lower and she sung all of them without lip syncing, live. But beginning with Rainbow she would struggle through the verses and then magically belt the high parts sounding exactly like the records. Was I the only one disgusted in 2003 when MC released one of the best songs of her career TTR, with no background vocals on the record, but whenever she performed it live there was a wall of background vocalists? Check out her AMA, Oprah, MTV performances. I paid to see her in Columbia MD in 2003 during the Charmbracelet show and she lip synced most of it. Who sings songs on record that can't be sung live? It infuriates me so much because I feel like I am the only fan looking behind the curtain at the Wizard of Oz and then I get beat up for doing so. MC will get millions of dollars to perform NYE. I can guarantee a lot of it will be lip synced. Where is that right for the best vocalist in the world? I have nothing but love for MC and could care less about the ensembles, the diva antics and other things most of you criticize as long as she walks on stage and kills it without lip syncing. She hasn't done that in awhile and gets a free pass. No wait a multi million dollar pass.

Re: I'm going to reply (57,431) (57,433) by Giovanni from USA
I'm pretty sure Mariah would appreciate B's respect, admiration and love. Not to mention all the countless times he has defended her. He's what I call a true fan. Randy is so annoying always posting about Mariah's vocal decline. "Her voice isn't the same." "It's changed." "She can't sing as good." "She doesn't show off on the stage like others do." Blah blah blah. We get it.

Haha Luke, I know I would at least. If I were Mariah I would also burn all jeans on sight. Casual, what's that? She can wear whatever she wants, granted, she goes up and down from her car. Does she ever walk 10 blocks? Haha. If only one could have such life, aaah. This is how you get down from the car in the mornings, couldn't be any more glam. So beautiful.
