Mariah's musical direction (54,542) by Xavier Peoples from United States
Am I the only one who thought that MIAM was maybe a little too mature sounding? I feel like every song on there with maybe the exception of YM(E) has an old school feel to it. Even "Thirsty", which tries to be contemporary, sounds very dated. I know people think some of her songs like Infinity might be too immature for her, but I think I might disagree. Just because MC is getting up there in age doesn't mean she has to start doing a bunch of old school music. After all, Mariah started out from the 90's. Not the 60's and 70's. As much as I love songs like #Beautiful, I really wish she would release some bangers. I was telling my sister that I wish Mariah would have harder more innovative beats on her next album. I think most of the beats on MIAM are kinda weak. Like, Dedicated is by far my fav song from that album but I feel like the beat of that song is so weak. I actually really like Infinity, and I hope that that song is an indicator of the direction that her new music will go in.

Next album (54,541) by Giovanni from USA
Mariah definitely needs to bring it with the next album. She needs to record good quality music. She should find herself and reinvent her sound. Work with some great producers and put together a great album.

First time hearing Mariah and being a lamb (54,539) by ktktkt from Philippines
I've been hearing Mariah Carey since 1993 when Hero was popular but I'm not really paying attention to her that much. In 1995-1996, OSD was very popular, overplayed in the Phillippines not I did not understand that it's a song for someone who passed away. I liked [...] more especially the "do wo woop" intro. I only really got hooked to her when I heard Emotions and O Holy Night on the radio. The whistles in Emotions intrigued me the most and the high belting in [...]. I believe that was 1998-1999 when I heard that from the radio but I don't have a computer to search or any Mariah Carey casette tapes or CDs back then. When I first used a computer in 2001, I've searched the songs and the album. Luckily, one of my classmates let me borrow her cassette (Daydream) and the rest is history. I still have her cassette with me.

No to breaks (54,538) by ktktkt from Philippines
She needs to be everywhere as it will help more people and potential new lambs to recognize and support her new music (if ever). She needs to be more visible as much as possible. Could have been 30 #1's if she didn't take a break after TEOM era. (Though TMB went to number 1, it's because of the popularity of TEOM.)

B (54,537) by Luke from United Kingdom
I agree with you, Frank's music is so fresh yet still has elements of soul. Imagine if she done something along the lines of Pyramids.

Licia (54,536) by B from USA
I still have a cassette copy of Daydream. I keep it because of the nostalgia. I remember loaning my mom's friend a copy of Daydream and she ruined it and I was pissed and I never forgave her because she said she left it on her roof while laying out.

I agree that Mariah needs to work with new producers. I think Mariah should embrace the PBR&B (Pabst Blue Ribbon/Rhythm & Blues), Hipster R&B, and R-Neg-B movement started by artist like Frank Ocean and Miguel. I don't want her to jump on a techno beat for a cheap chart hit. I want quality music. She delivered with MIAM but I think that using a similar formula isn't going to work, it still works but it isn't working with radio and the public. Mariah isn't viewed as a has been she's viewed as someone who sticks with what works and plays it safe. If she took a few risks the media would be salivating and chomping at the bit. She had the right idea with Infinity but someone went and added in some strings to appeal to an older audience that isn't and wasn't interested in a song with lyrics about being corny like Fritos. She also needs to drop the pop culture references, those types of references were dated when she started doing them on TEOM.

My first time hearing Mariah (54,534) by Licia from USA
I was 12 years old when I first heard VOL on the radio. I never paid any attention to Mariah until I heard the song on the radio. I knew my sister had the first album so I went home and (her first album was on cassette tape, yeah I'm elderly lol) and I gave it a listen. After listening to the whole tape I pretty much ran off with it and never returned it to my sister. I claimed it as mine (yes I stole it lol). From that first listen on I was hooked.

No to breaks (54,533) by Luke from United Kingdom
You know what they say "strike while the iron is hot". I think taking a break would drop her off the radar and they would need to start from scratch again. She's got a good momentum going at the minute and hot music would be work well I think.

A break now? No thank you (54,532) by Marcus from Brazil
I don't think Mariah should be taking breaks now, but she definitely need to collaborate with some current producers because she needs a few hits help her carry her next album. Let's be honest, without "It's Like That", "We Belong Together" and "Shake It Off", "The Emancipation of Mimi" wouldn't have stood a chance. No because the music was bad, but because it would've been an album with no legs. (all caps) "Mariah needs a new sound, as simple as that." She needs to write again uncomplicated but beautiful lyrics like "Butterfly", "Petals", "My All", "Underneath The Stars" just to name a few. If she doesn't burst her bubble, she won't be able to connect with this new generation. She should know by now that "Infinity" is really just a made up dream, and that she'd better bring something decent to the table next time.

The firs time you heard Mariah, just for the nostalgia (54,531) by Alejandro Cole from Colombia
Hi guys. I remember arriving home from school and looking at my uncles new stereo. He had a couple of CD's and showed us how great of a sound that was and how loud. He allowed me to play some with the stereo and I intended to put some house music at the time, but what I got was the "Hero" Spanish version from a single he had. I was absolutely mesmerized by the voice as I wanted to be a singer and loved music for a life (I still am and most of my music and style was influenced by Mariah off course) so I listened like 20 times that song and loved her ever since. I saved every penny I received for lunch and bought Daydream, that was my first Mariah album. Later I convinced my uncle to gave me the "Heroe" single and the rest is history. I've been a lamb for almost 15 years now and treasure that special moment were God "send me from up above" so much joy through Mariah's voice.

Re-releases? (54,530) by darrian liu from taiwan
Honestly, I don't really get why Sony is deciding to re-release Merry Christmas. There's no point. AIWFCIY is already the biggest, one of the most adored Christmas songs of all time. Merry Christmas is the best-selling Christmas album of all time. Re-releasing what the public already knows very well doesn't make sense to me. Why not just prepare a big, new studio album with an out-of-the-box concept? Or maybe, touring across the US with smaller, intimate venues to further re-introduce her image to the GP. Actually, I had been thinking about a promotion concept for Mariah. I think the main problem is that Mariah is seen as a has-been by the public. Why not re-introduce her like a new artist? Forget about her achievements, focus on her strengths as an artist and a vocalist (constantly telling people about her 18 #1s is not going to net new fans). It's gonna be better if she reinvented her sound. A classic Mariah sound with a more modern twist. Promoting her like a new artist with the same vigor. Then release an album that is up to MIAM standards (or more) with a huge, coordinated promotional push. Also, she could also dress herself more casually like the camouflage jacket or AI. I think it would be really good. What do you guys think?

What I have learned from posting on this board (54,529) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
1. Posters are so passionate about their points of view that they can be verbally at each other's throats at the drop of a hat. I mean seriously, who needs TV with this happening on almost a daily basis? Haha.
2. You can never be too positive or too negative on this board. Finding a middle ground between the two is also quite tricky.
3. Some moments here take you straight back to high school. Heck, this is high school. We have the popular kids, the rebels, the perceived bullies, etc. The only thing different is that underneath all these stereotypes, we are all Mariah geeks.
4. Lists are ever so popular.
5. The webmaster rarely breaks his silence , and when he does, he gets the most likes.
6. Herd mentality is also present, so much so that those who have different opinions are marginalized at best and attacked at worst.
7. Forget haters and bashers. Lambs have always been Mariah's toughest critics. Always.
8. "Goats" and "eternal optimists" are two ends of the spectrum.
9. There will always be a post that comes along that's unsettling enough to remind you that sometimes a break from posting is needed to preserve your sanity.
10. It's still the best Mariah messageboard out there.

The next move (54,528) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
I too think that a break right now would do more bad than good. I don't want to pressurize Mariah but if she can, I think she should already start working on her new album and map out exactly how she wants the album to roll out. Mariah, even though she looks 10 years younger, is 45 and age is important in Hollywood. I really believe Mariah has the capability to deliver great material, but the work doesn't end there. Her label needs to back her up and I am strongly against L.A. choosing her next single. L.A. might have been responsible for a lot of artists' success, but I don't like the direction he wants to take Mariah in. Her artistic ability should not be confined. I think the single should be chosen by a group of younger individuals. For Mariah's part, she only needs to keep up the great performances she has been serving up starting from her May leg in Vegas and be confident when she is singing in big event. Also present herself in interviews like she has been doing lately. The rest is on the label to get her big interviews, magazines and big events.

New material / unreleased songs (54,527) by Licia from USA
Don't get me wrong, I would love new material now. I always want new material. I just don't want her to put it out without being ready to promote or put her all into presenting it to the world. I also would love an album of unreleased songs. I bet Mariah has a vault full of songs like Tupac. I personally didn't need another number ones album or a re-release of the Christmas album. A double disc full of unreleased songs sounds like heaven. Lol.

RJJ12 (54,525) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
I think why most of us are still in the "is she, isn't she?" phase because just last month when she was asked whether she started working on her new album/or about her plans to get back in the studio, she said she has yet to discuss about the new album with L.A. Reid. L.A himself said something along the same lines when he was asked when he intends to put Mariah back in the studio. Now for the songs you mentioned missing: *singing for Mariah* I wanna know where the songs are, and I want you to show, show me. *breaks into whistle a la X-Factor IWKWLI performance* Plus I mentioned this before, where is the track with DJ Clue? Where is the track with the supposed surprise collaborator?

Billy / fans (54,523) by Musti from UK
You put that very nicely Billy. Let's face it, we all have a thing or two that we don't like about Mariah. At the moment mine are her megadiva personality, the lack of female collaborators throughout her career and that musically she hasn't really been thinking outside the box since TEOM. But I don't come here ranting like it's the end of the world or start name calling. It's important to have a healthy balance on this message board because, as the lambily, we can't turn into Mariah's "yes men". I like to think her camp comes on here to check how we receive current events so it's important to have that reality check for them. But this board isn't meant for painting Mariah in a nasty picture or calling her names. Criticism can be styled in so many different ways. Why go for the nastiest? Especially if you call yourself a lamb and visit this page regularly. I'm not referring to Andrew in particular. There have been many posts bashing Mariah over the years (including mine). None of us should be crucified for expressing our opinions, but there should be a limit to the things we say.

Andrew (54,522) by Luke from United Kingdom
I don't tend to read your posts because I feel it's usually things you've mentioned before which is fine. What I don't understand is it doesn't seem to be a very happy way to spend your time, worrying about someone you don't know and what they aren't doing right. We all want Mariah to do well but that's up to her. I don't think anyone is trying to change you just give you some advice. However, it is intirely yours and others right to post what you want. Just don't be suprised when you get backlash on a Mariah fan page. If you want to continue to be blunt and straightforward when talking about Mariah then try to do it with kindness and understanding when talking with others. We're all equal and nobody here is in a higher position than the anyone.

New material from Mariah is always needed: music, film, theatre, stage, biography (54,521) by Baby from Dreamville...Where There's No Beginning & There is No End
Especially now. It makes sense and I see it succeeding. I'm sure she's always working on new music and right now she can't afford to keep any musical gems to herself. She's been around this long because of her prolific tendencies, not inspite of it. She shouldn't wait at all to do anything she wants, not when someone like Janet Jackson has been gracious enough to warn of her return. Musing: Imagine if Mariah and Janet did a world tour together? She needs to teach The Vendetta a lesson for sabotaging her projects at every turn.
1. Vision Of Love, arguably the only gospel song to ever be a Billboard Hot 100 #1.
2. MTV unplugged, garnered I'll Be There, the only live BB HOT 100 #1.
3. Wrote AIWFCIY, the last original Christmas classic and most popular modern Yuletide song worldwide ever since. #1 In Japan.
4. Fantasy remix featuring ODB. Need I say more?
5. My point, as it has always been and will be, is that Mariah isn't the kind of artist you can limit in any way. Most true artists aren't but she's broken every ceiling put upon her, from her mixed heritage, dysfunctional home life to abusive relationship with Tommy and the aftermath that echos his vendetta against her to this very day. Now, if you don't want Mariah to succeed as an artist, of course you'd rather she disappear as that is the easiest way to get your wish. If haters label her a has been now, imagine if she took a hiatus? There's always room for great artistry, but we can do without stupid covert Sabotage. Nice try though.

Andrew / Eric / Mimi L., could you please? (54,520) by Edward from USA
Andrew, his name is Eric. Obviously he doesn't like your posts, but he's not abusing his power as a dictator to vanquish you just because he doesn't agree with your approach. Had he wanted to ban you from the board, he would've done it a long time ago. Just remember that Eric is also a fan, and even though he rarely posts, he, just like the rest of us, has an opinion, and if there's a person who deserves to vent from time to time after 16 years, that's Eric. So, don't be dramatic and stop asking Eric to block you, he obviously doesn't manage this website like a despot. Many posters here might not like you, but there are many of us who do. So next time you'll ask Eric to block you, I'll have Mimi L. sent you a complimentary package with 5 bottles of Mariah's "Butterfly Pink drink", 3 of "the dresses" she used in the Elusive Chanteuse tour, 3 bottles of her "nail polish" and your very own autograph picture of "Nick Cannon". I hope Eric doesn't block me for writing this message. See you guys in a couple of months.

I never liked the idea of a second number ones album and meaningful rambling (54,519) by Amber C from USA
I never liked the emphasis on the "18 number ones". This actually makes Mariah underrated. because they have captilized on 18, the other singles now seem irrelevant or less important. However when I take an artist like Beyonce, she doesn't have number ones (to this extent), however if she was to be marketed at the diva with 30 smash hits (just as an example), look what happens. The number 18 to the number 30 makes Beyonce's achievements seem like more (or equal). The "18 number one hits" rapport has cheapened Mariah's brand. It holds no significance anymore to say "18 number one hits". in actuality it is remarkable, but it has become so overlooked because it has been oversused. And by capitalzing on 18 number ones it is as if Sony is drawing the line and saying no more. in 100 years Mariah will be known the 18 #1s. But they will never be exposed to Mariah the music maker and legend, she will be known for her voice, but not for her talent, because all her other songs will be overlooked. Sony should have released an album of Mariah's underrated songs or solely new songs. No need to recycle music everybody knows. How does that truly benefit your artist LA?
(Thursday 11 June 2015; 6:34)
Lee on no new material (54,518) by Amber C from USA
Mariah's voice should not be in the studio as of now, however Mariah always builds momentum when she stays busy, album-making. I'm eager to see what these new projects amount to. But I don't think the public wants to see any new Mariah music for a while, especially when it has been so poorly executed since Memoirs tbh (not the music but the releases and such). I also believe Mariah is being overworked by Big Jim, and the new label has turned Mariah into a legacy artist, which she isn't. Mariah is not like any of those "legacy" artists. she has been in a league of her own, but LA and Sony are trying to fit her into a box which she doesn't belong in. I wont mind Mariah the actress. Mariah lets make this happen, the music industry is bleak dahling. .
