Is she a victim of or accomplice to her problems? (50,112) by Marissa from USA
I don't believe that there's a media conspiracy against Mariah. When it comes to the media, everyone is fair game. No one is going to coddle her like her fanbase. It's not like they are slaughtering her because she accidentally fell on stage or forgot three words in a song. She's more often than not giving performances that are straight up embarrassing, and she doesn't even give a s*** about rectifying the issue. If MC was dressing age-appropriate and on point, actively taking care of her voice, quit lipsyncing and retired the diva antics and was still getting dragged, then I would blame the media, but she is her own worst enemy. Mariah needs to completely get out of her own way first before I start blaming any outside sources. You can't blame outsiders unless you know that you are doing everything in your power to achieve excellence.

Twitter update / Michael Bolton (50,111) by Darryle from USA
A fan asked when a Mariah and Michael Bolton collaboration was going to happen and Mariah responded: "Gotta Make it Happen" and Mariah responded "One Sweet Day". I could be reaching for something that's not there, but the possibility of a Michael Bolton collaboration is very exciting. I hope Mariah wasn't just responding to be nice.

Records are made to be broken (50,110) by Warrior Butterfly from USA
Oprah said this to Mariah in '99. I think when she got nervous about being so close to braking the Beatles' record. New talent will always be around the corner. Realistically Mariah will not hold her records forever.

I read your whole post and it actually wasn't that bad and you made some good points. The first time I started to read it I only read the first few lines and I thought it was goung in a different direction. I thought you were going to ask Clarice if she could hear the squealing of the lambs again, or something of that nature. I stopped reading because I didn't want to go back to work with negative vibes but that post was actually not that mean so thanks for making an effort.

I meant that as Rhianna working with him. She knows that he has a very huge and loyal fan base. I think the song sucks and I don't see it becoming a #1 so I'm not worried about it. I typed that message in a hurry but then the comments that followed inspired a wide range of emotions in me and I really am considering only coming here for news. Ive been visiting daily since the site launched.

The Grammy's didn't want to be associated with Mariah? That comment is absurd. I fully understand why E=MC2 and Memoirs weren't nominated because the material didn't warrant a nomination but MIAMTEC did. It received some of the best reviews of her career. Think what you want but I suggest you read all articles before Touch My Body broke The King's record and after. Enlighten yourself before claiming the bleating of the lambs has started. I need to clarify something. I don't think he wants her to top MC. I think the industry and media in general want to see her dethroned or at the very least tied. She was knocked off her pedestal before and look what happened, she came back with an album loaded with songs that couldn't be denied and promoted that album like her life depended on it.

So what if he gets another #1 as a songwriter? Your initial claim was he is using Rihanna as part of his genius evil master plan to dethrone Mariah. Now you are going about another route. Stop trying to make everything a conspiracy. Plus I don't see what's the problem if McCartney is going for another #1. Isn't that what everyone in this industry is after?

I spent the day reading articles before the release of Touch My Body and after and came to my conclusion. Paul wants to keep that record as badly as Mariah wants to best it. Your post are the ones I skip because you are always the negative Nancy. Everything she does or releases isn't up to your standards, ever.

Hello (50,098) by B from USA
If that song goes to #1 he also gets another #1 as a songwriter. He holds that title. I did my research, a lot of these blogs and so called media outlets only report the negative when it comes to Mariah. I'm sure she does a lot of things that could come off as arrogant but who doesn't in this industry?

Mariah winking the queen of rock (50,096) by MC1989 from Spain
I'm a huge fan of Tina Turner and I loved watching Mariah's performance of "I'll be there in Jamaica", in which she sang "Better be good to me and Tina said it too." She was obviously refering to one of Tina's biggest hits "Better be good to me". Did you notice? I remember back in 2000 when Tina released a DVD celebrating her 60th birthday, and among many artists, there was Mariah saying "She's an inspiration to millions. Miss Tina Turner, happy birthday". I loved it.

B this is no conspiracy (50,095) by May from Denmark
If we have to tell the truth and nothing but the truth, the media and critics have never liked Mariah. She said in an interview that she grew "thick skin" and every time she had to talk about critics since the very beginning she would smirk and say "you know what the critics say, everybody's a critic" and she would laugh (and that's me paraphrasing but different interviews had come to the same kind of line). I don't believe that is lately that the media bashes MC, I think they just have it easier because the digital era. Before internet was a common commodity at home, all we could rely on was radio and magazines cut outs and whatever MTV and MuchMusic would feed us, yellow magazines and gossiping shows weren't the big boom thing neither, people would comment rumors but fans and everybody else would brush off quickly. Now at days, the media would do anything for internet anonymous comments. Mariah has always been very proud of her number ones and the awards that she has won thanks to the people's votes, she probably even disses her own Grammys lol. I doubt it has anything to do with sexism since most of the ones on top of charts are women, does it have to do with age? Maybe, why not but if yes then why, it's not like Sia is 20 year old and she is everywhere right now. I do think the yellow media does like to punch Mariah, probably because she has been having misses and because she ignores them. She told TMZ "don't ask me, you know I won't ever comment".

Deniece Williams / Twitter (50,094) by Darryle from USA
I was looking through Mariah's twitter feed and she's having a conversation with singer Deniece Williams. Mariah tweeted "Niecy. You have no idea how many storms your song Free has gotten all of us through. I will be honored to work with you some day." I don't know if Mariah was just saying that she'd love to work with her or if they might actually collaborate on something. It might be a stretch but we could possibly be seeing another female Mariah collaboration in the works.

Is still a masterpiece (still get my life from Cry, Faded, Meteorite etc), but it is such a depressing album. I think she needs to be in a better place emotionally when she records the next LP. I want upbeat, vibrant, inspirational, feel good music from our queen this go round. I want her to get back in touch with the essence of who she is as an artist. I can't help, but feel like she kinda lost a bit of herself when she got with Nick. So this next album has to come after soul searching, regrouping, and getting back in touch with herself. We shouldn't overly concern ourselves with number ones. Listen I would love for her to beat the Beatles one day, for her the hold the record for most numbers ones forever, but (all caps) some records are made to be broken. She'll remain an iconic legend regardless, best selling female artist of the 90s, a number hit for a decade straight etc. Some of these records will always remain. That's why she remains incomparable. Her body of work will live on and continue to speak for it self.

Andrew (50,091) by Taylor from USA
Dear Andrew. After reading all your posts, I do not understand your contribution other than being passive aggressive towards what is going on with Mariah. With every bad story that emerges, you unfailingly spew forth comments that take on such a patronizing and condescending tone. It is more than Rien for you to have your opinions, but your opinions are not constructive criticisms. Even when you try to come across as so, you convey a very passive aggressive undertone that belittles Mariah and anyone who has come to support her. No one is so blind as to not be realistic, but you dismiss and diminish anyone who shows any hope and support for Mariah. You come across as an intelligent person, but your demeanor is anything but supportive and understanding. Your attempts to sound constructive are thinly veiled by arrogance and unwarranted authoritative nature. You and I do not know Mariah personally, therefore your characterizations of Mariah are invalidated, as well as mine. The difference between mine and yours, however, is that yours are unsubstantiated at the level at which they are made. Where were you when Mariah burned down the Beacon with her exquisite Christmas shows? Where were you when Mariah left Asian fans in rapture when she closed the remainder of her tour? Your absence during Mariah's shining moments only speak of your aggressive and vindictive nature, because you only come out when she slips. Everyone will fumble as we go through life, and while we are not expected to carry Mariah's of anyone's hand, we are expected to show compassion and understanding during those times. All for the simple and undeniable fact that Mariah has given us more hope, inspiration, and determination than the recent mishaps. I write these words not to fight, but to intervene because you are essentially bullying Mariah. You are kicking her when she is down. You belittle and demean those who show her support. This forum is open to all and every type of opinions. There is nothing wrong to talk about what is bad and ugly, but it is wrong to do so in the manner you have been doing. The only arrogance I've been witnessing is your superficial characterization of Mariah and those on here who believe in her. Be well.

#1's (50,090) by NHYTG from nyc
I agree the new #1's containing those 18 #1 songs and just one new track is good enough for now. That's should be a nice album for celebrating this 25th anniversary. And I would like this new track being produced by Timbaland, I know they have been in the studio together, I want to hear at least one song they have created.

Re: Media, Mariah, and the truth (50,085) by B (50,088) by Dove from USA
I was thinking the same thing B, but Paul McCartney isn't a jerk. On top of that, I highly doubt he would want Rihanna to beat his record over Mariah Carey. Something is definitely amiss. She only needs two more yo tie, three to win. It's totally possible. Having the most #1's distinguishes you and makes people who have never heard of you at least want to try your music.

Paul McCartney (50,087) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
While I might agree that the media seems to be really after Mariah with so many people throwing constant shade at her, or that maybe just maybe insiders of the music industry do not want Mariah to break the record of The Beatles, I do not agree that Paul teamed up with Rihanna to beat MC. That's ridiculous. What good would it do for Paul if Rihanna does manage to beat MC's record? Mariah has 18, Beatles have 20. If Rihanna beats MC with a 19th #1, then wouldn't she immediately turn into a bigger threat than Mariah for the Beatles? I mean she will be just phone calls away from scoring 2 more #1's and beating their record. Paul probably just liked the idea of the concept Rihanna had and that's why they teamed up. It's because of this unusual out of the box experiment that the song blew up. I don't think The Beatles will prefer having someone like Rihanna break their record rather than MC (who can actually sing) doing it. And the reason why MC's performances are being scrutinized so much is because before the last couple of years, social media and technology was not so widely used and every moment could not be captured and shared with the whole word instantly. So every mistake made by any celeb is now worldwide news almost immediately. That's the only reason.

Like golden petals scattering (50,086) by Andrew from UK
"The media has 'turned' against Mariah." The bleatings of the lambs continue. Almost every message on this board about why things aren't going well for Mariah is about *other* people doing things *to* poor, perfect Mariah. This is delusion wrapped in a fantasy designed to profligate the idea that Mariah is a victim (cross fingers for new victim song). The media is going to vilify anyone caught out for faking, especially if it's in such a public way and especially if it's by someone who has acted like a stuck-up diva for ten years in re: attitude and tardiness. Why would they give her a break? She controls her own career, she has cast off anyone who could have provided direction over the past decade and she arrogantly thinks she can do this (which she has done several times) when she is on top as if she belongs there of her own accord, pity everyone who worked to get her there. The problem? It's not Nick, it's not Tommy, it's not Luis, it's not the media, it's not Ariana, it's not Nicki. It's Mariah. Her decisions, her attitude, her unprofessionalism, her arrogance, her amateurism. Stop blaming everyone else. NB I can predict the future, wait, hark, can you hear: "You're so mean. Why do you even come here. You're this pathetic label I'm recycling." It's the bloody truth. The media print what they think the public will buy. If it can buy Mariah being a joke it's because she acts like one. She not a star anymore. Grammy? They understandably didn't want the association.

Media, Mariah, and the truth (50,085) by B from USA
The truth is the media has turned against Mariah. Is it sexism or ageism? Or is it that they don't want her to best The Beatles? I'm not sure but something is amiss. Mariah Carey has never been the best live performer nor has she ever claimed to be but the media has spent the last six years constantly dwelling on whatever mistakes she makes. Seems like there is an agenda against Mariah. I'm not being delusional. How convenient is it that Paul McCartney, a Beatle, has teamed with Rhianna who is determined to best Mariah?

How I would love to see #1's album (50,084) by T from USA
Since this is a hits compilation album I would rather just see it being one disc with all the original 18 #1's. That leaves room on the CD for one more song. I'm fine with just one more song and I can wait for the bulk of new music with a new album in the future. Having all 18 on one disc would be a dream come true for fans and collectors alike. (PS. As an homage to the original release I would love to see a reverse order of the songs.)
Mariah Carey #1's
1. *new song*
2. Touch My Body
3. Don't Forget About Us
4. We Belong Together
5. Thank God I Found You
6. Heartbreaker
7. My All
8. Honey
9. Always Be My Baby
10. One Sweet Day
11. Fantasy Remix
12. Hero
13. Dreamlover
14. I'll Be There
15. Emotions
16. I Don't Want To Cry
17. Someday
18. Love Takes Time
19. Vision Of Love

Quality (50,082) by B from USA
Memoirs was repeative and like E=MC2 the lyrics were too cliched and a little weak (Love Story). Mariah delievered musically with MIAMTEC. It was a fine return to form but the rollout was messy. With the right song/single Mariah can easily redeem herself. I haven't listened to Heavenly since the album was released but I don't think any of the notes are computerized or autotuned. Mariah Carey is an institution. If she wasn't capable of greatness her fans and the media wouldn't expect it from her. She needs to work with the producers that Migue l and Frank Ocean work with. Mark Ronson and Calvin Harris need to be called for her next singles. Rhianna and Katy aren't capable of greatness.
