Et al. Thanks for showing up [...] refusing to drink the stale kool-aid from 1990 that's been making the rounds in the media about Mariah. Back then the talk was it wasn't even her singing her own songs [...] then it was that she couldn't sing live. Then she was accused of oversinging [...] just showing off. Now it's the blatant in your face lie that she's lost her voice, overnight, like freaking Ariel the mermaid? Where were they just a few weeks ago when Mariah had us feeling Emotions like it was 1991 on The Elusive Chanteuse Tour? The haters that be, want it to be true so bad they go around harassing lambs calling us delusional [...] wishing alcoholism on her. Apropos of Thirsty things, have any of you tried the Butterfly drink? We don't have it here in Europe yet, or do we?

Martyn, Marc Shaiman and that other [censored] (48,330) by Baby from Dreamville...Where There's No Beginning & There is No End
Yeah, that was me fangurling over Marc Shaiman below. Who wouldn't after this nice letter he posted on Facebook? Mariah is very aware of the comments, allegedly she posted this on Twitter: "I'm fighting a cold. Give me a break" [...] someone screencapped it before it got deleted. Probably haters attacking her under the guise of fandom. Then the champion of all fools went on Twitter [...] said this: "Mariah Carey, wish I could have been there to help. Lets talk." Where was all this altruistic caring in 1997 [...] through all her troubles with Tommy [...] Sony? Such opportunistic behaviour has rarely been seen since MJ [...] that's saying something. [...]

Ugh (48,329) by Brad Catoe from United States
I think some people still don't get it. Why does Mariah have go back to her roots or stop with the splashes? Leave the woman alone. I'm so over this. You read Debbie letter but then go Mariah change change. Bye.

I just want to say for the record, when I entitled my post "What do people want from Mariah?" I did so not because I was asking the question, but more to emphasize a point. At times I feel the actual music gets lost because of constant back and forth over Mariah's voice, live performances, versus lipped ones, what Mariah should and shouldn't be doing to improve her career/life whatever else. Could Mariah benefit from sitting down with her team, getting a vocal coach, reworking her songs to fit her current situation? Absolutely. I'm not suggesting anyone who has voiced that is "wrong". I'm simply saying, it is easy for people on the outside to look at things and say "I've got the solution. This is what you should do." When in reality none of us are living her experience. Was the tree lighting flawless? No, it wasn't. She clearly struggled. But to read what is out there right now on the internet about MC, and how "bad" things are it's as if people are talking about world hunger or some horrible injustice on the planet. There are upsets when she lips and upsets when she sings live and it doesn't go over as expected. It seems as though anyone who chooses to offer her compassion gets told they are making excuses for her, or not looking at things with an objective eye. I have absolutely no control over what Mariah does in her life she is the only one that does. I honestly can't sit here and say the tree lighting was the worst performance ever, because it wasn't. Yes, Mariah has hit and miss stuff going on with her vocal ability, but getting angry with her, judging her and blaming seems counter productive.

What is going on? (48,309) by Liz Archer from Sweden
What is this gossip about her being hours late for a performance? I think I heard this happen before. I really hope it's not true. Personally I would't give a damn (unless I was in the audience) but my worry is that this gives her a really bad rep, it is probably something as a singer today is never a good thing. People don't like it when they have wait for someone. People of today are inpatient and it doesn't matter if you are a diva or not. I know it's silly but some part of me want to see Mariah be successful again. Come out with an amazing album with music people love and that is different from what we have heard so far. Maybe a movie with a character that is interesting (and not her). Comedy might be a good thing. Being late for a performance gives the impression that she doesn't think the audience is important. People people after all came to see her. Unless it was a medical emergence or family crises of course. I have always been worried that she is surrounded by the wrong people giving her a false impression of the world, isolating her and such. I do understand that's is already isolated due to her fame, but still. Just worried.

Debbie Gibson (48,306) by Ryan from Canada
Well said Debbie. I hope you all read what she wrote. I feel like she took the words right out of my mouth. I feel ashamed to be associated with the fans that come here and don't take things into perspective about Mariah but instead feel that they have to criticize her when she is down. I personally thought that she did well during her performance. Obviously there were issues wether it be her voice or the weather or her earpiece. We all know she can still sing. I definately felt the emotion in her voice.

Debbie Gibson / Mariah (48,305) by Abraham from USA
How nice is this lady for coming to Mariah's defence and sticking up for her. Same with Sharon Osbourne and the rest of the ladies from "The Talk". It's good to see some people defend her. I think all Mariah has to do is stop with the splashes, do some vocal exercises and get plenty of rest like she used to. After watching the performance a few more times I don't see what's so horrible about it. Just because she didn't hit a certain note or didn't belt a verse. People want to jump on her and say she's over? I can't believe that they expect her to sing or sound the same way she did 20 years ago. If that's the case, listen to the album. All this backlash is bull s***. She doesn't deserve this. She went ahead and got on stage and sang live. She didn't have to. She could have just went home. But no, out of the kindness of her heart and for her fans she performed. Mariah didn't owe anybody anything. Yes her voice isn't what it used to be. Duh, we know that and are past that discussion. But she's still a force to reckon with and can slay all these ridiculous female artists.

The dear Mariah Carey video (48,304) by G.G. from USA
That guys is spot on. Telling the God's honest truth. I know this sounds cheesy, but starting at the 18:15 mark it really brought tears to my eyes. When he tells her she needs to go back to the wood shed where she recorded her demos and find herself again, I lost it. This whole situation breaks my heart for Mariah. The divorce, bad performances, no support from the record label, disconnect and alienation of her fans etc.

Haters gon hate (48,303) by Otti from Belgium
I saw her performance of All I Want For Christmas Is You (Rockefeller 2014), can someone tell me what's wrong it? It was live and not bad at all. The hate needs to stop. It's easy to hate. It reminds me of school, when someone bullying on someone and the rest follow with no reason. At her worst still better than others in their best. The voice, sexiness, writting skills, number ones, global star. It's not the first time she is being hated for what she is, remember the Glitter era?

Part 2: boring technique stuff / no excuses / yada yada (48,302) by Tiina from Finland
I'm not going to make excuses for Mariah. I don't care that it was cold. At times singers have to sing early in the morning, in a cold climate, both, or even when they're sick. A proper warmup is always necessary and every singer should know their instrument (whether they have thinner or beefier chords) as well as have a vocal warmup tailored for their voice (I expect Mariah to know her instrument at this point). This is important especially when you know you have things working against you. She knew it was going to be cold. I've already discussed the state of Mariah's vocal chords and have nothing to add. But to make things worse, it seems she doesn't properly warm up her voice. She's even said she warms up by singing along to her favourites. A lot of singers do this out of laziness. Some can get away with it, especially when they're younger, but as you age/have kids, it's a different ball game. You can't just rely on momentum anymore. You need to have your vocal chords warmed up (they're muscles after all) and fully functioning, meaning that all of the different components of a balanced voice, like chest, head, mix, resonance and edge, need to be warmed up separately. It depends on your voice what you need to focus on more specifically. There are also therapeutic exercises for singers in need. The value of technique/having a good warmup is huge. If Mariah systematically warmed up her chords, she'd be more consistent and would knock it out of the park.

Lee TS / peep this video: must watch (48,301) by Edward from USA
Lee TS, the guy in that video is what I call a real fan. He is a true fan, but never delusional. He's very objective too. Never had I agreed more with anybody than with everything he says in that video about Mariah.

Part 1: what about last year, the media (48,300) by Tiina from Finland
Last year her performance at the Christmas tree lighting in NY was just as shaky, if not even worse, so I don't understand this media backlash. I actually think her performance was better than last year (not saying it was good but better than last year). The media is probably tearing her apart because a) it's slow and literally nothing else juicy is happening right now, b) she was late and so they think she deserves it, and, c) earlier this year her vocals on the tour gained a lot of negative attention, so it's a continous story they get to run with. They are completely over-reacting. So sad because right now is the worst possible time for Mariah to get slammed like this because it's all adding to how horribly tough this year has been on her. Even though she was late and kept everyone waiting (I believe her when she said that it was beyond her control), I give my respect to her for still showing up the next day with a smile on her face and singing live.

Mariah gets snubbed... again (48,299) by Jono from USA
Well as I predicted, no surprises there. In fact I would have been shocked if Mariah had been recognized. We're talking about someone who couldn't even win awards in her heyday, and wasn't even handed an award on live TV during the 2006 ceremonies where she had the biggest year of anyone. I will take consolation in the fact that they think people like Miley Cyrus and Katy Perry are Grammy worthy "vocal" performances, and not someone like Mariah. This shows their standards. I also wouldn't be surprised if the Grammys are more and more about the business... as in whatever record company is willing to shovel out enough money to promote their artist for these awards. We all know the debacle that was the promotion for MIAM, so I doubt that Mariah had enough support to even appear on the Grammy radar. It's a shame because they choose to nominate and award the same artists over and over. They certainly have their favorites, and Mariah has never been that (remember when she got screwed out of the opening slot because Madonna threw a little hissy fit, despite not having done anything in 2005?). No need to pay attention to a ceremony whose legacy is no longer artistic achievement, but commercial achievement. Mariah earned her Grammys (very few for someone her caliber) when it actually mattered.

Randy / why so nervous (48,298) by Edward from USA
Randy, imagine riding a car that you don't know for sure whether the brakes or gearshift is going to work properly when you need them. Now imagine that happening on a regular basis. That's why Mariah is always nervous and insecure, because she doesn't have the control over her voice that she used to have. It is nerve wrecking for her to stand there not knowing if she'll be able to hit this or that note, and not only high notes, but some not so difficult ones too. The situation is serious because Mariah is having problem even harmonizing. Whispering used to cover for some notes here and there, but even that is unpredictable. I pray she finds a team of doctors that could help her stabilize her voice. It pains me to see her struggle like that and being ridiculed. She deserves respect. Whoever leaked that voice-only recording should be prosecuted.

The voice and other stuff (48,297) by R&B Junkie from Poland
C'mon, media. It's not the first Mariah's performance that goes under the expectations. It's been over 15 years, so nothing new is being brought into light. Honestly, I think that this performance wasn't the worst, actually I think she's improved. I guess someone is trying to take the fame away, just because it's Merry Christmas' 20th anniversary. Someone's clearly jealous that this album, that originally wasn't planned to be succesful, eventually became one of the 90's classic albums. And it peaks relatively high in charts every year. She was really brave last night to go there and sing fully live. People should appreciate that, because she could've been lipsynching.

Ok only because you posted the link of ThisisMartinJr who I love and he's a true lamb. But here's also another true lamb who spoke about the performance. He might not be as nice on some things but roots for MC. I think they're both great online lamb ambassadors haha.

Mic feed situation (48,295) by Lee TS from USA
I don't believe the story of some disgruntled NBC employee leaking the mic only performance as some revenge against Mariah. But it does make a good story doesn't it? I think the mic feed performance first appeared on some website that likes doing these type of videos. If I'm not wrong they did mic feed videos of Beyonce and Taylor Swift from this year's VMAs. They basically pointed out how flawless Beyonce sounded and Taylor was quite messy. But yeah, mic feed is probably gonna be the new standard to watch live performances. And to my Mimi, you're gonna make it through the rain.

Catch a glimpse of this video Lambily. We are all frustrated over the mass media smear campaign Mariah is experiencing for the 147th time. This video I find reflects how many of us feel and this lamb needed to get it off his chest. Happy viewing and Merry Christmas.

No Grammy nod? (48,292) by John john from UK
No Grammy nominations for Mariah again this year. I'm shocked and saddened by this and even more so by how the press have attacked the Rockefeller performance. What's wrong with everyone? I thought she sounded good, not amazing but not bad. She looked amazing.

Longtime since... (48,291) by Bradley Zirker from United States
Mariah Mariah, Mariah. That is all I'm hearing from everyone. Whether it is something good or bad. Mostly bad though. Now first of all, people are acting like Mariah has never sound off or bad in a performance before. They are ripping her performance that she did at the Christmas thing into pieces like this has been her very first time not sounding bad. Yes her voice has changed a lot over that past 24 going on 25 years but I don't understand why certain folks are acting so surprised. Now the performance to me was not good one bit but I'm not going to waste my time bashing her all on social media. And then some of the [censored] fans be having me weak with all the hateful accusations about her voice and life and all of that shit. The only reason why it seems funny to me is because these [censored] lambs that are talking shit are the same ones who turn around and buy every album, movie, dvd concert, magazine and perfume of Mariah's like they are obsessed and in love with the woman. Yes I prefer her 90's music and voice over her music and voice now, but I still love her music and voice today. I personally feel like if I was Mariah, I would do the vocal rest again, vocal exercises again, drink tea with honey, lemon and whatever the [censored] else you should drink with tea, watch out for the foods I eat because that effects the voice as well, and most importantly, put down that [...].

Baby (48,290) by B from USA
Thanks for the advice. Mariah is still the best and that leak only made it clear her voice is improving. Compare the live leaked vocals to her vocals during the opening night of her tour in Tokyo and it's obvious. I'm going to continue to support Mariah and enjoy her for what she does and who she is. She's a single mother of twins who was cheated on by a douche that used her. She deserves sympathy not ridicule, especially from her [...] fans. Maybe I watched a different version of the leaked vocals because a few missed and flat notes does not make a performance bad.

Sorry to bring up W. Afanasieff (48,289) by Gloria from Hong Kong
I think his reply is peculiar. First of all, how can you help with her being late or the weather (I think it's Mariah's apology for)? Probably something else but not so kind to her. Second, the "letstalk" part. I thought they were not musical partners, not friends either. When was the last time they worked together? Lead The Way? I hope he is not fueling the media bullies (except The Talk girls, love them). I feel like "I don't know him".
