Mariah the businesswoman is Vegas? (49,082) by jaker20 from US I don't get that reasoning that she has to do Vegas because a lot of mouths depend on her. That is the absolute worst reasoning to do Vegas, because that is a reasoning based on money. And money not even for her sake but for the sake of people around her who pressure her to do it. After her breakdown 13 years ago, I thought she released herself from these sycophants who made her work like a horse for their job security. She should be more mature, secure with her money, and be more comfortable to do what she wants. Like Streisand after her peak. Like Madonna after her peak. I am more concerned about MC than the people around her, because the people around her will overwork her until her voice is shut and they can't take anything from her anymore. Vegas will be the end of MC on radio, charts and TV you can guarantee that. There is absolutely no way she can write and be inspired and record great and inspiring songs while she is in Vegas. It's just not physically possible. Hence the fallen stars who go to Vegas and never recovered. Vegas is an admission that she's no longer a pop musician. And I don't believe that. I believe she has more great music to give. I believe she can still be relevant and have another comeback. She is pushing 50, so every remaining ounce of her voice could be put to better use than Vegas. (Saturday 10 January 2015; 0:30)

I was going to ask you to keep your face pic as your avatar the other day, since to me it gave more soul to your posts, but I forgot. As for my last post, the thing is that nobody needs to convince anybody of being fan, and nobody is entitled to label who is one or not. When you thanked Amber C for having created an account to ruin the mood on the board, I thought it was rude and unwelcoming. We can all agree or agree to disagree, but how we express our disagreements makes a huge difference. Many things and opinions have been said about the possibility of a residency in Vegas, some I don't agree with, but that's all it is, nobody can really ruin my mood unless I allow it. Peace. The hating game (49,078) by Marcus from Brazil Here we go again. Some people here can't stand the fact that others have different opinions. As soon as you don't agree with what they say or the mood they like the messageboard to be in, they start the name calling, "haters" and "so called fans" are preferred, others call to jump on the ban wagon of the hating game. The sense of entitlement of some people here is really out of this world. If you don't like a post, take a chill pin, and keep on being as positive as you want to be, but don't try to make people think or act like you, that would be boring as hell. I'm not going to get into everything you wrote but for example: "I believe Mariah has only one more chance to 'slay'/have a musical 'moment' in the industry." This lack of belief in her is negative IMO. And "Mariah has little friends, and the people around her don't give a rats tail about her." How do you know how many friends she has or how they feel about her? The back up singers have been with her since her first album, she keeps hiring them back so they must have some sort of bond or relationship. Regarding your other post: We all work to make money. Sometimes we don't feel like it but we drag ourselves to work anyway because it's better than laying around feeling sorry for ourselves. If we like our jobs it's not as bad having to do it. I have a feeling Mariah likes her job a lot. Nobody is making her work and if she really didn't want to, she wouldn't. She's 44 years old with 25 years in the business. Everyone accuses her of being a diva so she's obviously not afraid to ask for what she wants. I highly doubt two or three nights a week for a couple of years is going to ruin her. I would just rather focus on what could go right. We don't know who she's going to hire or how it's going to be. With this whole Vegas residency I think it could be detrimental to her voice as far as constantly doing shows. First Mariah album / Shelly (49,074) by Bill from the UK Out of interest, what was everybody's first Mariah album they heard? Mine was Music Box back in 1993. I had the cassette, and I remember listening to it on my Walkman in bed at night, and just loving the artwork and the excitement of seeing she had other albums I knew nothing of (there was an advertisement for her other albums in the sleeve). Until then I thought Dreamlover was her first song. Hi Shelly. Well I was doing a round the world trip, I was definitely in Australia during March as it was the "wet season" up North, and Las Vegas was my last stop, so it may have been in April. I can't recall if it was early, mid, or late though. I will find out and let you know. I remember being somewhat perplexed that Celine never sang Think Twice during her show. That, and Titanic, were the only songs of hers I knew, and Think Twice was #1 in the UK for weeks and weeks. Maybe it wasn't as popular elsewhere. (Friday 9 January 2015; 22:12)

I have memories of Mariah as I was growing up. I was a child when she first sang Hero. I remember watching her singing it on tv that time. She was like no other. She was something special. To this day I still cry when I think of the young Mariah. Feel like crying now actually. Well, the Mariah of today is so different. Geez, one will never say it's the same person. It makes me so sad to listen to her older music today. So I only look at who she is now, in the present day and age. This is my first time on this message board. Concerning those who share my p.o.v (49,071) by Amber C from USA Mariah needs a break. What you guys don't realize is that Mariah is not just a musician, she is a business. People depend on her for their livelihood. She is supporting her whole team (through her record company) but you get the point. Celebs feel this pressure, and sometimes it's the reason why they overwork themselves. Take for example her nephew on twitter (he blocked me for calling him out for his arrogance, but that's for another time). I asked him why Mariah is doing so much touring, performing at "this" time in her life (the divorce, her emotions, her tired vocal cords), his reply went something like this: "It's whatever, she's making a whole lot of money working as supposed to not working." Knowing things like this makes me feel guilty as a fan. I know money is important, but if that's the reason you still drag youself on to the stage to perform, even with tired vocals, then I don't know how to feel about that. She has the right to fight, cry and decide if a bond is broken with such a close family member. But this is not only about Mariah, her brother and mother would have helped her already, so I refuse to believe yet another stupid story about Mariah. This is delicate though and is not a game. Celine in Vegas (49,066) by jaker20 from US Her voice went completely downhill after her Vegas residency. And her voice was in a much better state then than MC now. My only concern right now is MC's fragile voice at the moment. Once you sign that dotted line those sharks in Vegas will squeeze every ounce of you. It is more grueling then touring actually. It's pretty much goodbye pop music career. I still think MC has a few more great albums and singles left, but a Vegas residency would be her saying bye bye to her voice, the charts and pop music. Vegas is residency is 50 to 70 shows per year. And I've not really heard a one year residency. That's more or less 2 to 3 years. Look at what happened to Celine. And her voice isn't even in worse shape as MC now. I can only imagine what it will do to her already fragile voice. You know why for some reason you notice a certain artist disappears from pop music landscape? From radio, music videos, and tv and everything else? That's because they're raking the dollars in Vegas. They have no time to concentrate on a good album and singles and all that stuff. Once they sign that dotted Vegas line, they will be slaving away for Vegas sharks for many years. Unless you travel to Vegas, you simply won't hear anything from her except on Youtube. No new music and album for a couple of years, and if she does, it'll be a lazy uninspired album. Forget about her voice getting shut after 50 to 70 shows per year. Her body and mind will be shut. Let's face it, MC is doing this to forget Nick. I would rather her be busy and focused with song writing and recording again. Sorry, but Vegas is not only for has-been, but for has-been who admit they are one. It's so weird that even Madonna won't sign a billion dollar contract she was offered a few years ago for a Vegas residency, when her strip club act is more fitting there. Wish list for Mariah in Vegas (49,065) by ADAM from USA I'm not a fan of Mariah going to Vegas because I feel a permanent spot performing on the strip will only highlight to non-fans of Mariah's that she does lip sync and has lost a majority of her original singing voice. This will be an embarrassing spectacle for her because we all know she's going to lip sync several entire songs, hire lame Debbie Allen to produce the show and have her friend Rachel choreograph some whack dance moves. As a fan I can accept her shortcomings and still love her but I think this will only tarnish and lampoon her legacy. If I had my way, she would would only lip sync the hardest parts of certain songs and actually perform different material. I'm so tired of her performing the same setlist. She even looks bored performing it that I don't know why she doesn't at least change the arrangements to perform it acoustically like MTV Unplugged or have an entirely different beat. And please don't use Randy Jackson again. His medley for American Idol was horrible and just weird. Beyonce is a good example of someone who makes her old catalog interesting during different arrangements or used for interludes. I wish she'd perform fan favorites and other #1s which get no love like Love Takes Time, I Don't Wanna Cry, Can't Let Go, Butterfly in their entirety. I know it won't happen but on a good note, I'll definetly have a reason to finally go see Vegas and support our girl MC. I can't wait. (Friday 9 January 2015; 16:15)

I understand why Mariah didn't promote it though because every interviewer would have asked about Nick and she didn't want to deal with that. She's still relevant. She's still The Voice and she's still a Pop genius. I want her to write an undeniable Pop smash before she retires something like Dreamlover or Fantasy. The throne belongs to Mariah. She is queen. MC wouldn't let her niece and nephew become homeless. If this story is true, why didn't AC try to get in touch with MC through their mom? Going through a tabloid is kinda low, like airing your dirty laundry. MC is such a private person too. AC should have given that letter to their mom to give to MC. When I said, "If she has a good album, release it now", I wasn't trying to say MIAM wasn't good. I just thought it was too late to promote it at this point but maybe it's not. Artists are always saying they write a lot of songs and choose the best ones. Since MIAM just came out I didn't know if she had written enough "good" songs for a new album yet. If she did start promoting MIAM again, and the show was all the songs from that album, I would be really happy. (Friday 9 January 2015; 14:41)

Vegas residency, and sister Alison (49,055) by Amber C from USA Vegas residency: I think it's the wrong move sadly. 2014 was Mariah's year in so many ways, and to me it felt tike the calm before the storm (sadly I believe Mariah has only one more chance to "slay"/have a musical "moment" in the industry). It showed Mariah at a low point, which we know Mariah will never visit again. The Vegas residency in my opinion seems like a long unneeded commercial break. What MC needs is a few months of vocal training and TV appearances on talk shows and such. Residency is too safe for Mariah, nobody has counted her out (she still makes front pages of everything). She may be the last remaining diva of her era, but she's still one of the most influential and popular artists of this era. Alison: Mariah should know better than to alienate her family. Her sister is not well, and she's not exactly young. Mariah has little friends, and the people around her don't give a rats tail about her.
