Vegas is happening, whether we like it or not (49,053) by Darryle from USA
Mariah was spotted outside the Caesar's Palace today. Will all the Vegas reports swirling around I'm 99.9% that Vegas will happen. Instead of talking about how much of a bad idea this could be I say we embrace it. I've decided to look at all the good things that can come from her doing Vegas. This could the thing that bounces her back. It'll put her closer to the US lambs which will help rebuild the relationship. If her voice is good then she'll prove all the critics and haters wrong. By the looks of her recent performances I'd say her voice is better than good. If Mariah plays her cards right Vegas could be great for her career.

Vegas (49,052) by Jay from USA
If this is true, then I hope she doesn't hire Debbie Allen again. I hope she goes in a different direction. Of course we know that Mariah isn't a performer, but the people that went to see her at the Christmas concerts seemed to enjoy the show. I assume the Vegas shows would be similar in that she will be in the same place for a few days. Whatever the decision is, I'll be saving up my pennies just in case.

Abraham / Shelly (49,051) by Bill from the UK
Abraham, I have been listening to You Need Me more than ever, to try and make up for the times that you skipped it hehe. The mood and sonic style of the song really reminds me of Chains by Tina Arena (or that should really be, Chains by Tina Arena reminds me of You Need Me). It has that kind of edgy, angry vibe to it. Great stuff. Shelly, we are the same age. I wonder if we were at Celine's concert the same night? Wouldn't that be weird (exclamation mark).

I agree some stability right now would be good for Mariah, and her kids. It's one of the main reasons when Celine came back from her break. She had Rene-Charles at that point. Celine wanted to do her show and come home to her family at night. Seems logical at a time when her personal life is in chaos to try and set up something more stable. If the show is done right with a lot of dancers and theatrics, I can see this doing very well. Remember, Celine is a singer too. She's not exactly dancing around the stage. Her show was very visual with all sorts of things to look at while she sang. Plus, Celine also got very personal with her audience, sitting at the edge of the stage singing If I Could, etc. I can see MC doing the same thing, inviting her fans from all over the world to see her. Gets me excited. She can sing her hits plus put her twist on standards of old. And she can do some Christmas shows too.

I love those songs too. Honestly, I love all of her songs. Even the ones I didn't like at first (UOMF and SIO) I grow to love, eventually.

Vegas, not necessarily a bad thing (49,048) by Tiina from Finland
I think this is the right thing for her to do at this point in her life. She's a mother, first and foremost, and this residency deal allows her to work and earn but still be with her kids and see them grow. That's most important. She also gets to connect with her fans. I'm sure people all around the world will migrate there. In fact, I might as well if I can afford it. I think she'll be pumped up with new energy and inspiration. Besides, regular show dates will push her to stretch out those vocal chords and that'll be great along with the new inspiration for when she gets into the studio. And, if all goes well, she'll be the talk of the town as well as her next hit album.

MC going to Vegas (49,047) by Anonymous from
MC is doing the right thing in my opinion. Singers live of their album sales, concerts, etc. Nowadays album sales are patetic even for new artists. so that's why a lot, not only MC, have to find new ways of making money and keep their careers alive. It's harder for singers like Mariah, with so many years in the industry, to keep them in the spotlight. Radio stations don't want to play your music even when it is good just because they want new faces, new styles. So they are not going to promote your albums, singles, etc in the way they did before, because this is how the music industry goes. So with the low sales and lot of bad press in the last year, MC is finding a new way to survive in this wild industry. I always heard that singers with dead careers go to Vegas but I don't see it in that way. It's just the new situation in this business that make singers to find a "safe and quite" place where development.

Thoughts (49,046) by Abraham from USA
I was thinking maybe the reason Mariah is doing Vegas is because she wants to re connect with her fans here in the US and maybe try and win some old ones back. She probably just wants her next album to sell more.

Live singing (49,045) by Dove from USA
In my last post I meant to say, "If she does it right and hires the best people, you're going to feel like you're in somebody's dream." Hopefully she hires the guy who did Celine's show. Mariah's new songs are just as good, albeit different, than her older ones. Every era we've practically gotten a new singer because Mariah's voice, sound, and direction has evolved every three albums. There is a lot of room for creativity and versatility. I see these Vegas shows as more of an experience than just a concert. I've said it before, when Mariah sings any song live, my soul feels like it's soaring. I love when she sings live too, so don't shoot me for saying this, but if done the right way, I think lipping is okay. In Vegas, the venues are smaller so her face is not going to be plastered on the giant screen all night. When you're in the audience, you really can't tell if it's lipped or not. I do think she should record a new live track to lip to, instead of the CD version, because that would make it more believable. I want to believe in the "dream" concert and if she has to lip some of the harder songs, I'm okay with it, as long as it's believable.

Vegas residency (49,044) by Dove from USA
I don't understand why some of us are talking about a Vegas residency like it's a consolation prize. You have to be a really big star to be offered a residency. If I were a singer, I would prefer it over going on tour. When people tour they're mostly on a bus, on a plane, or in a hotel room. It''s not like they actually get to experience the places they're playing at. A residency means that you're a big enough star that people will come to you. Plus, like Bill said, they go all out. It's not going to be some cheap, rinky-dink, second rate, little concert. You're going to feel like you're in somebody's dream. I like going to Vegas with my friends every few years to just be an adult. You can see a show or two, they have really good restaurants that most kids wouldn't appreciate, you can gamble and drink. I'm not a gambler or a drinker and I pretty much only do those things when I'm in Vegas. Mariah doesn't seem to stay doing the same thing for too long so I doubt she'll do it for longer than a couple of years. When her kids start school she'll probably want to go back to New York.

Bill / Celine (49,043) by Dove from USA
Thank you Bill. I'm not a huge fan of Celine either. I knew her hits that played on the radio, and I can appreciate that she's up there with Whitney and Mariah as one of the best vocalists of our time, but I've never closely followed her career. I was planning a trip to Vegas (I turned 21 in 2004) and saw that she was going to be there, that's why we went. Now that I think about it, that was probably the best concert I've ever been to, also.

Mariah in Vegas right now (49,041) by John john from UK
Mimi spotted in Caesars Palace today. Is this coincidence?

Vegas (49,040) by Will from England
Should this prove to be true, I think this will be good for Mariah. Here's why: she can spend time with her kids, whilst being able to perform for the fans/the general public. It would mean limited travels for her, which I think she would be prefer, as it would mean spending less time away from her children, rather than embark on a world tour. I think TECS was a tester for her, to see what it would be like to do a huge tour, whilst looking after her kids at the same time. Remember, this is the first time she's ever had to do this. Plus, there is an element of re-building her public image, get people talking about her as a performer/singer, rather than the continuous diva demands etc. Mariah does not spend a lot of time on stage, and when she has recently, it has been hit-or-miss. Spending time on stage, in Vegas, could set her up greatly for her next album, should she choose to record and release another body of work. Her Christmas show (which had zero promotion, yet was still sold-out, much like some of her TECS shows) proves to me that she can have a sustained period of just singing. And she gets better as she goes along. She's taking more risks vocally, she experimenting with what she can do, she's not hiding that she can belt or do her runs. What she needs (desperately needs) to do, is try and find a way around her apparent TV appearance fears, because that's where she falls short. No TV cameras is pitch perfect performance. TV cameras is uh oh.

Vegas (49,039) by Ty from USA
Vegas? She will sing only hits and half the show will me mimed. Vegas is bad news, the celebs who go there do not rebound, do not promote their music and she will not sing her number 1's because [...] and [...] make her cringe. This is the same chick who could have done snippets of [...], [...], [...] on her IG but didn't and refused to promote.

This could really be happening, wow (49,038) by John john from UK
Vegas is looking more like its a go, go, go. I wonder when she will start her shows. I'm going to as many shows as I can when I visit Vegas. I'm gonna be there in June to get married. I really hope she's on then, that would be the cherry on top of an amazing cake.

#1's in Vegas (49,037) by Chicago Lamb from USA
A stint in Vegas is exactly what she needs to get her voice in shape again. Then she can record a killer album.

2015, Vegas, rumors, etc. (49,036) by KeShawn Taylor from United States
Greetings everyone. Happy belated holidays and New Year. I think it's all but confirmed that Mariah will be doing a residency in Vegas, as I remember last year there were surfacing rumors of her doing one in Atlantic City. If Mariah has one to two days in between each show, she will have enough time to take proper care of her voice so that it remains in good quality throughout the remainder of the residency. As far as a career move, if managed and executed properly, this could be the wisest decision she's made since 2005. She and management dropped the ball with single choices and reaching full potential with E=MC2 and MOAIA. MIAMTEC isn't even worth mentioning as it relates to promotion and rollout, which sucks because it is a genius album. Depending on when she starts the residency, she could very well use it as a way to bring the songs from the album to life in an attempt to revive and relaunch it, while it is very unlikely. The other alternative to make this successful, similar to Celine and Britney, would be to launch this as a show highlighting her hits and fan favorites and capitalizing on the show's success and popularity to release a new album by the end of the year. This is Mariah's 25th year in the business. Both 1995 and 2005 saw huge years for her with the releases of her songs of the decades and largely successful albums that were not expected. With proper promotion and preparation, this year could be another big year for Mariah, she just has to be 100% ready.

Las Vegas - fingers crossed (49,035) by Anthony Carey from U.K
Well guys, I wanted to say how excited I am at the prospect of Mariah doing Las Vegas. See to me it is not a place for people who can't sell etc it is a showcase of entertainment. I have visited Las Vegas previously numerous times to see Celine, Britney and Toni Braxton and the way I see it, if these stars don't want to tour the UK then great as I can have a place to come see them perform and a holiday all in one. I think the problem is again, we can either choose to pick apart every decision Mariah or any artist makes or we can choose to enjoy the decisions and their artistry, be grateful she is still putting out records and performing as we all know she doesn't need to continue if she doesn't want too. I wish all the lambs well and if this announcement comes off then let's embrace it, go see the show and relive the splendour of our amazing Mariah.

MC in Vegas (49,032) by Todd from Sydney, Australia
Hey guys. Okay, I'm going to go against everyone here and say that I think it would be great for MC to do a couple of years in Vegas. The reason that her voice wasn't up to scratch for the first few shows on the EC Show, she hadn't used it for ages. By the time she got to us in Melbourne and Sydney, she was incredible. Vocal chords are muscles. yes, they get tired. But they also get stronger the more they are worked. So saying that her voice couldn't deal with it is like saying "Dude, you're too fat. You shouldn't work out." I've seen Mariah in concert twice, both in Australia, and she was perfectly comfortable on stage. I think she's a bit awkward sometimes when she is part of a line up, where she's in a situation where the audience isn't made up just of her fans. Just my thoughts.

Vegas, Vegas, Vegas (49,031) by Edward from USA
Vegas could work for Mariah if it's done right and in the right doses. I don't think she should have a residency in Vegas, she should rather do Vegas a few months a year, as if it were a seasonal show that somebody can't wait for it to return the following year. Vegas is also about confidence. Besides all the production, the artist ultimately is the one who carries the show. Mariah needs to get her voice to a consistency where she won't look insecure about the next note while on stage, or that she's gasping for air here and there, people smell insecurity, that's what bullies (Wendell Williams) pry on. So, once the season is over, she would be vocally ready to release any music and perform it live on Ellen or any other TV show. Everybody lip a little in Vegas, nobody can't do five nights without a little lipping here and there, but Mariah has drawn lots of negative attention to her, because let's be honest, Mariah is aweful at lipping.

Vegas residency (49,030) by John from USA
Has anyone actually "bounced back" from a Vegas residency and achieved mainstream success once again, or is a Vegas residency a last ditch effort for stars to still bank some considerable money before their shine totally dims out?

Why I rebuke Vegas (49,029) by Marissa from USA
1. Mariah is not a "performer". When people come to Vegas, they want a full blown show and exquisite vocals. She stands and sings, and her singing is typically hit or miss. It can be great, but it can also be cringeworthy. You can give a person like Janet who is dancing her ass off more wiggle room vocally, but no one's going to cut Mariah any slack if she just stands and gives a subpar performance.
2. Unconvincing lipsyncing. This needs no elaboration.
3. The timing: MIAMTEC being considered a flop and the scathing reviews of her vocals in 2014 makes the residency look like a last resort for something positive. Vegas is seen as a mecca for stars who's relevance is in question. This is why I feel like she needs to kick ass with new material before a residency is even a thought. Then if she wanted to do it after that, no one would think she was accepting it because she felt defeated in every other area.

The Elusive Chanteuse Show in Vegas? (49,028) by Otti from Belgium
I think it's clever if Mariah did the Vegas residency. If she links the Vegas show to her most recent album "Me. I am Mariah" then she can blow new life in this album since we all know that selling albums is not what it was. It's like doing a USA tour, but on one place, so that people from all over the world can come to these shows. Like I said before, the game has changed, and an artist like Mariah looks for another way to get her music heard. I think the time is right for Vegas, evenmore, this time Mariah needs Vegas to promote her work. Not like Celine but temporarily just to promote her latest album and celebrating MC25. On the otherhand, if she has plans to release a new album, then she should not go to Vegas.

Vegas would be bad for MC (49,027) by jaker20 from US
A few shows is probably ok. But a "residency" will end what is remaining of her voice. MC's voice started deteriorating when she started touring. And Vegas residency is even worse with even more demanding schedule. I think it's going to be a mix or live and lip and that will tarnish both her reputation and ticket sales. I think Vegas is more suited to performers, those who dance, have huge backup dancers and transforms the stage into a strip club. Like Madonna, Britney or JLo. But if you're a vocalist that will end your voice. Look what happened to Celine after her Vegas stint. Don't get me wrong, I will probably most likely be there and watch a show. Vegas isn't very far from me. But given the state of her voice, I would rather her continue writing and find her next hit song, then play smaller venues in less demanding schedules. I think she's still capable of a couple of hit albums and songs.
