Re: Billy from England, UK (45,404) by Carlos Jaramillo from USA
Billy, my friend, I think you might actually be on to something there with your theory. I'm not exactly sure how deep the roots of your theory dig into the rugged realities of this particular era but I'm certain they are diggin. Hm. I believe Mariah is superficial enough to be willing to take some losses, at this point in her career where she has proven anything and everything anyone could possibly ever want or try to prove, over putting herself out there to be scrutinized when she is not feeling "her" 100%. I'm with her. I'm ok with that. We basically disembowel this woman on a daily basis and then want her to prance around, exploiting "herself" and demand an ear to ear smile and production worthy performance and aptitude all the time, 24/7. I'd stay home with my new found loves too. Just saying. She's got more money that she could spend in her life time. [...] Think about it guys. She's not going to subject herself to in-necessities. I get it. I'm sad about it but, I think Billy is onto something here.

The silence of the lambs (45,403) by TR from USA
Saw that line on a meme somewhere and thought it was funny and sad at the same time. There's not much else the fans can do without MC's help in terms of promoting this album. I mean I do my best to use MILG or Cry to convince friends of mine who are former fans that she's still cranking them out, and the response I get is usually "It's good. Let me hear it again. The harmonica is giving me life. Etc." Nothing like "This is phenomenal." But nothing like "it's trash" either. It's lukewarm to former fans, and I don't know why because if they want a taste of current but 90s Mariah, this is friggin' it.

Mariah signs with SESAC (45,402) by Martyn from England, UK
Okay, so I've read the end of the article about what SESAC is, but I still don't understand what this means for Mariah. What part will they play in her career? Apologies if I'm being stupid, it just all seems a bit vague.

Three new songs (45,401) by G.G. from USA
Producer Tod Jones posted a picture with Mariah on his Instagram from last night at Bubble Lounge. He said he heard three new song. What the new songs are for, he didn't say. Maybe a re-release of the new album?

Carlos (45,400) by Abraham from USA
Thank you, I didn't know Mariah recorded Spanish versions for those 3 songs. I listened to all 3, and "My all" is the one I liked the most. She did a a good job. I also was unaware about "Hermosa" until last month. Being Hispanic, I enjoy hearing Mariah sing in Spanish.

Talley (45,399) by B from USA
Andre Leon Talley did dress Mariah during The Emancipation Of Mimi era. She looked so classy.

Mariah's personality (45,398) by Manny from U.S.
I've never seen Mariah as a 100% diva. On the surface she looks like a girly girl but she is tougher than what she seems. She is more than that. I was thinking of Mariah throughout the years. I have always admired her strength and tenacity. I know Mariah is seen as a diva. But there is so much more to her than what we sometimes focus on. I was thinking of her injury. Mariah was videotaped in a wheelchair saying "the show must go on". I would've been crying like a little girl. I can't stand hospitals. She made the most of it and had her bling slings. When she was pregnant, she took a pic of her belly with a butterfly drawn and "dem babies". She made the most of it. When Eminem kept making negative remarks of her she recorded Obsessed and made a video mocking him. Even though she says the skit from "Honey" is not of Tommy, I feel she did mocked Tommy. Even Walter Afanasieff said it was an FU to Tommy. I could go on. I've never seen Mariah as a diva. She used her wedding dress (to Tommy) on the We Belong Together video. I was laughing so hard when I saw that. I see her as a Long Island girl with a personality that is full of different layers. I feel like I get her. She has a self deprecating sense of humor. Mariah the artist, comedienne, entertainer, and yes a diva.

Shelly (45,397) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
I think Andre Leon was heavily involved in what Mariah wore in 2005-06. I am absolutely certain the stuff she wore inside the Louis Vuitton store shots (as in the swimsuit and the black and white number) were chosen by him. All the clothes were from Louis Vuitton line of that season. I think she should get back with Andre. I also adore the clothes she wore during AI. Those wore some amazing clothes, I wonder why she doesn't wear similar stuff anymore. I am kind of tired of the black gowns. They are boring now. Mariah looks great in all colors, so why not aim at being a fashion icon too? That will also help her get younger audiences. I think she should step out of her comfort zone little by little. Maybe wear a sexy suit like she did in the Ellen show, or pull a jeans-and-top moment like 2008.

Mariah signs with SESAC (45,396) by Martyn from England, UK
Seeing news stories about Mariah signing with "SESAC". Does anybody know what that is? I can't get my head around it. Is it management? [Webmaster: Just read the end of the news strory and you'll find out what SESAC does.]

Just let it rest (45,395) by Miguel from México
If the contract with Def Jam is actually over, more than another compilation album, I would expect a volume 2 of the remix album with the remixes created during the IDJ period that includes the best tracks that did not make the final cuts of every album. Last thing I need is another compilation. Sony has already released so many and they are all basically the same. Maybe 2015 is the perfect year. 25 years in the industry celebration, a brand new record to celebrate. 1995 was a great year for her with Daydream, 10 years later came another great era with TEOM. Who knows, 2015 might be huge too.

Stylist (45,394) by Dove from USA
Whoever was her stylist for Say Somethin' did a great job. The clothes are super flattering but she still looks sexy and classy. That video upped the cool factor.

MIAM (45,393) by Billy from England, UK
One of the reasons I think Mariah hasn't promoted the album is because of the way she looks and I know Mariah is a perfectionist and wants to look her best and she's doing her best to get back to her best before she starts doing anything and she decided to give us this album because she knows we have waited long enough and that's my thoughts anyway.

Abraham from USA (Spanish songs) (45,392) by Carlos Jaramillo from USA
Hey, Abraham, off the top of my head, she has 3 other Spanish songs. Open Arms, Hero, My All all have Spanish versions.

Maybe the new era is 2015 (45,391) by Rashidi Rahim Rick from Malaysia
With the disappointment of the sales, and the disappearance of Mariah after the release of the album, maybe, just maybe, we all should just learn the art of letting go and move on. I hope Mariah would pull her act together, take this opportunity to get her rest, vocal rest, to prepare for her new era in 2015. Mariah could release her new single "Save the Day" or another new song in January 2015. Just my two cents.

About the whispery vocals (45,389) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
(Ok, I'm no vocal expert. This is a mere opinion of someone who has been singing most of his life based on an observation of Mariah's voice through the years.) Now it's when you try to inject musical tone in your whisper, producing a breathy, airy, feathery, raspy if slightly metallic-sounding coo, which is deceptively difficult to do. Be just as, if not more tiring than non-stop belting, and doing it often can take its toll on your voice in the long run. While it isn't harmful to everyone, to most people, it puts a lot of stress on their vocal chords, and I feel like Mariah is part of the majority. I think that aside from the excessive partying habit she's adapted after her divorce, she also progressively whispered more, which is a pretty damaging combination in itself, but turns even worse when added to a habit of working yourself to the ground. Another example (not the best singer at all, but a similar case) is Britney, who lost a good deal of the considerable vocal dexterity she had in her first 3 albums after she was advised to whisper-sing on her 4th album because "it sounded sexy", which she did, as it was what she needed to further sex up her image in a transitional stage at that point in her career. She hasn't recovered since. Don't get me wrong, I love Mariah's voice now (for all the grit it has and stories it tells on its own), but if we were going to pinpoint a vocal technique that may have really started the vocal decline, it'd be the whisper-singing. Through time, her "whisper register" has also evolved. From quite full and smooth in Butterfly, it became noticeably more breathy and rough on Rainbow and Glitter, then airy and thin on Charmbracelet. By TEOM to E=MC2, the deterioration was clearly irreversible. But it has then acquired a slightly thicker, more leathery texture apparent on MOAIA up until now. Now there's nothing wrong with whispering - hers has always sounded sexy and brilliantly evocative when done sparingly and effectively. But it has also made her voice more of an acquired taste than it's been before. I know quite many people who are put off by her whispering just as much as they are of her oversinging tendencies. Just read customer reviews of Charmbracelet or MOAIA on Amazon and you'll see a number of disappointed fans, although to be fair, most of them are very inconsiderate and obviously don't comprehend the ravages Mimi's voice has survived over the years. But that only serves as a testament to her talent and skill, because as a longtime fan I have tried mimicking her whisper-singing and I can honestly say you don't even have to be female (I'm a tenor) to realize just how difficult it is to whisper through most of a song, let alone a chunk of an album. She's that awesome.

Hermosa (45,388) by Abraham from USA
I'm curious if anyone listens to "Hermosa"? I really enjoy it. I think Mariah sounds amazing in Spanish. I'd really like her to record a whole song in Spanish. "Hermosa" should have been included in the deluxe, along with a few new songs.

Me I am Mariah (45,387) by B from USA
Critics have praised this album, saying it's one of her best. I agree. She's still relevant. #Beautiful proved she's still capable of scoring a hit. Her image is the problem. Her diva antics are over the top and the general public think of her as an out of touch ego maniac. She needs to appear humble and grateful for her achievements. She needs to hire a real manager. A star of her caliber deserves a manager like Benny Medina. She needs a stylist. Rachel Zoe could transform her in to a style icon. Or whoever dressed during her stint on AI. She proved she can act. Her talent is undeniable. She's a living legend and she's still releasing quality material twenty four years into her illustrious career. This era hasn't tarnished her legacy.

(When) I Feel It and TEOM tracklisting (45,386) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
This song gives me 70s soul vibe by way of Earth, Wind & Fire and The 5th Dimension, which is always a good thing. It's a shame legal shenanigans kept it from being released, because it's just a great, classy song. I read somewhere that it was replaced by Joy Ride, which I also like. For some reason, they had to stick to 14 tracks, and I'd rather have this replace To The Floor instead, which I don't think by any means is bad, but is just the weakest track on the album, especially melodically. As for the bonus tracks, I can see why they were relegated to such status, again, not because they're bad (they're actually both cute), but because to me Sprung probably has the most strained vocals I've ever heard from Mariah, while Secret Love has one of the most annoyingly repetitive chorus she's come up with since You Got Me and Boy (I Need You) (the latter I actually like, although it does get a lot of hate around here). I don't care so much for the Platinum Edition add-ons, save for Don't Forget About Us and So Lonely, which I think is better than One And Only and is one of the finest non-remix club tracks she has ever done. But it's (When) I Feel It that's the real waste here. I hope she'll be able to include it in one of her future albums.

I know Bye Bye was on E=MC2 but when I was watching that one I started watching the Emancipation videos and it reminded me how good that era was.

Album experience (45,383) by Dove from USA
B I like your idea for the Faded video. It made me think of Bye Bye where she's laying on the yellow couch so I went to watch it. The whole 2005-2006 Emancipation era was pretty magical, right up there with the Daydream era. Even though I accept they're not promoting MIAM, it does make me sad because good videos, performances, interviews, photos, album art, etc. are part of the album experience that we remember. Those things become part of us just like the songs do. I don't want to be selfish and demand more, I'm thankful she gave us an amazingly beautiful album. But I do wish we had more. No matter what I'll always be a fan.

YDKWTD single cover blue dress (45,381) by Dove from USA
Compared to the other cover it's a vast improvement. There are things I don't like about it. I love the dress. It looks like something that would flatter her body, it's a fun color, it showsoff her best asset (legs), and doesn't over expose her breasts. What I don't like is that she looks too skinny, especially her face. It looks skeletal, like she's anorexic. And now that you mentioned it, her legs do look too long and too skinny. I knew it was the same picture with the dress photoshopped on but I guess after the other cover my expectations were way lowered. I wish they wouldn't photoshop her so much.

Billy / the gimmick (45,379) by Edward from USA
Billy, those were great vocals, but I hope you know by now that when Mariah starts using her hand to cover her face or turns her face away from the audience is when the recording kicks in and she's lipping the high note.
