Tarragan / Charmbracelet-whisper-like albums (45,378) by Edward from USA
Tarraga, I was the one who made the comment. I love Charmbracelet, it is a great album, but the constant whispering was too much for most of us. I didn't make it up, it is what it is. Even Through The Rain, which was supposed to be her going back to her 90's days ballad, was mostly whispered. She wanted to create a Butterfly part 2 album, hence her reference to The Roof on Lullaby. I'm aware that it is extremely difficult to sing that way, but in the right doses I don't mind. Most fans didn't like the constant whispering, that's all. The success TEOM had proved that people wanted to hear her sing, not whisper. The return of the voice caught people's attention. Mariah was singing again.

Gorgeous vocals from 2012 (45,376) by Billy from Greece

Why are the professional tapings so inferior, audio-wise, compared to amateur recordings like this, which showcase much more clearly the vocals? I don't get it.

TJ / Shelly (45,375) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
I don't think it's the official cover. It's fan made. It's the same picture that's on the official chanteuse cover with a dress photoshopped on it, the background changed and a mic set infront of her. If you google "Aimssy Boudir Mariah Carey" then you'll see there are many artworks of the official chanteuse cover with clothes on. About 10-12 different clothes. However this blue one is not a part of that. I saw another fan post it so it originally so I am assuming he designed it. Whether Mariah picked it from the "send me your YDKWTD cover" thing or not, I can't be sure but yeah it's basically fan made.

Had Mariah done all the promo she could and then it would have flopped, I don't think people would be complaining. They would know she did everything she could and then failed. But if it seems like she herself isn't excited about her album, then one can't expect people to get excited. If it was a bad album I wouldn't feel so bad that she didn't go around promoting. I hate that such a piece of art is suffering a bad label (lowest selling) when it had the potential to do so much better. Plus like I said, Mariah isn't even responding to the frustrations of the fans. I am sure she sees all the things people tweet her asking what on earth went wrong, but she just chooses to reply to the positive ones. And then she sends out JD every month to be hanged. I don't think it's JD's fault, the man clearly is pissed with the way the album is going. At least he is communicating with the fans.

Sweet A Capella (45,373) by Bill from the UK
I woke up early today, and rather than getting straight up, I got my iPod and listened to some Mariah. I played the One Sweet Day single, and I forgot just how beautiful the Sweet A Capella remix is of that song. I haven't listened to that version in about a year. It is simply lovely, and one of my most favourite remixes she has done.

A bit torn (45,372) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
While I'm upset that Mariah has so far seemingly given up on her new release, I can't be happier for her every time she shares pics of her family. She seems genuinely fulfilled. She never planned on having kids, but you can see it in her eyes that she wouldn't have it any other way than it is now. This also may be the best way for her to deal with the media, because if she was out there promoting her ass off, she'd probably be deemed an unfit mother (even if Beyoncé, Britney, and J. Lo seem to be managing the balancing act well). True, MIAMTEC is too good an album to slack on, but I'm finally (gradually) accepting that this may be her graceful way of bowing out, although we all know she won't quit something that runs in her blood, so this may be the first sign of her slowing down a bit, especially since the music buying public isn't that welcoming of her anymore, even more now that there's a whole new school of younger artists to fill their needs. Mariah has been on top for a period even longer than most singers could only dream of. It's gonna take some getting used to not seeing her burn up the charts, but this was bound to happen sometime, and that started when she hit 40. Good news is that it allows her complete creative freedom, to do whatever she wants, whether that's to update her sound or to stay stuck in the past, because she's no longer that much concerned about sales. I feel like she'll just make even better music from now on, and we'll still be there to enjoy it.

Next move? (45,371) by TJ from Norway
Her contract is over. What's her next move now? I mean, with those sales, and low sales since 2006, will any record company hire her, or is she going to release her own music without someone behind her?

Re: YDKWTD single cover blue dress (Shelly) (45,370) by TJ from Norway
I don't like that picture, because they made her 2 feet taller. Look how long the legs are compared to her upper body. And she's skinny like I don't know what. It's not human. I hope she will release a cover that is not retouched. It's like looking at a cartoon figure.

Here we go again (45,369) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
I rarely address or refer to ther fans here, but I'm with Marissa on this one. I re-read her recent posts and there's nothing wrong about them. This is what's wrong with us here on this board. It's almost always as if anything other than rainbows and butterflies (pun intended, but I digress) is posted here, some people are already out sharpening their pitchforks. Constructive criticism, especially if it's valid and as long as it's not overdone, is healthy. We can't be "yes"-fans all the time. The webmaster allows us to post almost everything, for better or worse, in the name of free speech. Difference in opinion is expected, hence some disagreements, but I don't see why those need or seem to always inadvertently resurrect the tired "loyal fans" vs. "real fans" debate. Ugh, like seriously, please just stop. If you see something you don't like or agree with, just post about something else entirely, such as anything you love about Mariah's music. It's what I do, and it takes my mind off the negativity while introducing other topics that may spark another discussion. (I personally love reading music-related posts from other fans that go into detail on what they like/dislike about a song, album, collaboration, etc.) Everyone has a inner troll inside, so I know trolling when I see it, and Marissa's posts definitely aren't.

Mariah Carey and her twins seem to enjoy 4th of July (45,368) by Cheryl Jones from American
I am glad they injoyed this day together, I had a good holiday too, went to Wilson NC to see my grandparents. It's good to spend time with your love ones, looks like Mariah Carey and me had the right ideal.

Whisper-like albums? Really? (45,367) by Tarraga from New York City
Really? I don't post very often here but this is just plain silly. I strongly and respectfully disagree with the person who said that "God only knows how many Charmbracelet-whisper-like albums she would've had by now" after Butterfly. Really? Charmbracelet is as good and balanced as MIAMTEC and Mariah doesn't whisper all the time. What's the thing against whispering? Does anybody know how tremendously difficult that technique is and how huge is the amount of energy one needs to sing it properly like Mariah does? There are strong vocals on that album too. In my opinion, Charmbracelet is one of her best albums ever. She not only uses a vast variety of colors but also different "vocal styles and techniques". Mariah has never done an unbalanced album. Fan since 1990.

Throwback moments on the album (45,365) by Darryle from USA
I've been noticing lots of throwback moments on the album so I've made a list of each one. If anyone knows more I'd love to see what you got.
Cry - It reminds me of Vanishing and VOL and its lyrics (till we both break down) bring me back to the song Breakdown.
Faded - References The Roof in the first line: It was overcast that day. The Roof: It wasn't raining yet but it was a little misty on that warm November night. Or FOJ: It was twilight that 4th of July.
Dedicated - References Fantasy: Remix of a fantasy, I hear 'em singing back to me like. The whistles at the end remind me of All In Your Mind.
Beautiful - The whistles at the end make me think Dreamlover.
Thirsty - Lyrically I think Obsessed or TMB because it talks about Instagram and TMB talks about YouTube
MILG - Sound wise I think It's A Wrap and Forever.
YM(E) - ?
YDKWTD - The line and even more than you love floating in a haze. Makes me think ILT because of the line purple taking me higher.
Supernatural - ?
Meteorite - Sound wise I think Fly Away (Butterfly reprise) and Daydream interlude (Fantasy sweet dub mix). Lyrically I think Fly Away (Butterfly Reprise).
Camouflage - I think of The Wind and TTEOT because of the wind sound effects on both tracks.
Money - ?
OMT - ?
Heavenly - Fly Like A Bird part 2.

Re: One question (45,364) by juan from Dubai
It's not about heavy promotion and sales. It's more of good image and good performances/entertainment that are clean and fit for a Mariah history. Good image, I'm sure she is a normal happy sassy woman and mom, but have her PR promote her in a better way, not a nonsense acting or pouring shades to younger singers or her contemporaries. Good styling for photoshoots, that won't deal on too much retouching no matter what her current physique is. Performances, once a year a concert that will cater to TV and YouTube era so good and live, you don't need to mess up with lipping. Videos that are as good as WBT or Honey or My All. And altogether, the right timing. But all she wants is to release her music.

Learning her lesson (45,362) by Darryle from USA
I'm over this album. If it's promoted great, if it's not I guess I'm going to have to deal with it. At the end of the day I just hope Mariah learns her lesson. She needs to let us in on what's happening and don't leave us out in the cold. All that does is divide the fans. Hopefully she learns that promo and having the GP on your side is key to good sales. I believe sales are important to Mariah despite how many times she says that she'd still make music even without good sales.

Lee (45,361) by Darryle from USA
I'll answer your question. If she did a lot of promotion and still only sold 40k I'd be ok with that. It would suck that the sales would be that low but at least I'd know she tried. I would know that the public is generally not interested in the album and Mariah could work from there to fix it. But she's not even trying to do something to promote this album so the public could generally be interested in it if they knew it was out there.
(Sunday 13 July 2014; 2:20)
One question (45,360) by Lee from USA
What would you all have said if Mimi went hard on the promotion and MIAM ended up selling up 40k anyways? If she sits on her ass, then she is lazy. If she goes ham, then she is seen as desperate and over-the-hill. It's kind of pointless to go hard on Mimi about her album sales when virtually everyone else is doing worse.

Marissa / too much control (45,359) by Edward from USA
Marissa, I couldn't have said it better, your analogy was right on point. Some fans don't understand that seeing Mariah go down the way she's going down is painful considering such an amazing catalog. You can clearly see JD's hands were tied from the beginning. His frustration for not having an input on MIAMTEC promotion can be sensed in his interviews. We fans need to open our mouths because if it weren't for us voicing our discontent, Mariah would've whispered her career to death after Butterfly. If we hadn't expressed the fact that we wanted her to sing more and whisper less, God only knows how many Charmbracelet-whisper-like albums she would've had by now. MIAMTEC is great, well balanced, but if she doesn't bring her A-game, we'll be having another album in probably 6 or 7 years.

MIAMTEC (45,358) by Abraham from USA
As much as I love the album, I'm just going to wait and focus on album #15. This whole era has been a mess. If Mariah still plans on going on with the album, cool. If she doesn't, that's okay too. It sure would be great to see a video from her. I think "YDKWTD" would do good as a single.

Is it love or enabling? (45,357) by Marissa from USA
I think it's so interesting that the holier than thou fans feel like anyone who gives constructive criticism isn't a fan, yet they are encouraging Mariah to do things that are destroying her legacy and undermining her credibility. Your level of expectations for Mariah have drastically plummeted if you think that asking for more promo is an unreasonable request. Isn't that what every artist does? Contrary to popular belief among the lambs, Mariah isn't above promotion and her sales reflect that. Since some people love telling who's a fan and who's not let me tell you what I think. I think there is a difference between being a fan and being an enabler. I think there is such thing as loving someone too much. Some of you remind me of those parents that will give their kids all the juice, candy, cookies and cake that they want whenever they want it because it makes them "happy" but you're really setting them up for juvenile diabetes and obesity in the near future. You guys want to excuse everything Mariah does trying to be "positive", when you're really encouraging her to continue doing things that are making her the laughing stock of the industry and reinforcing people's beliefs that she's a has-been.

Whatever MC is doing (45,356) by juan from Dubai
I believe MC is very contented with her life and doesn't really care. She has done so many achievements that she remembers everything so clearly. You will notice it on her interviews, every single detail when she recalls events, it's like they just happened. Just to simplify, she lives in her own world consisting her family, her close friends, her old inspirations (eg. Patti, Stevie), Rae-Rae (terrible choreographer), dogs, and her own history. But she is contented, not competitive, lazy and afraid to bring the house down. I just want her and the fans to realize is she is able and can kick everyone out in this game so easily with just her live, well-rested singing voice. My recommendation, lets say she wants to keep being sexy. That's fine. But she can do another MTV Unplugged album, or a live acoustic concert, Like "Love Story Acoustic" and some creative promotion. I mean come on. She can without backing pre-recorded vocals. She can. She is a force of nature, bigger than Beyonce and Adele combined (no pun intended, lols). I love her. MC please kick asses.

Chill, it's gonna be big (45,354) by Kyle from USA
There's a reason/strategy she is keeping quiet. She's not dumb. I'm sure there is a lot going on behind the scenes we don't know about. You know MiMi is pissed, she wants that next #1. YDKWTD is starting to gear up. There will be a huge promo blitz once the video is released. Def Jam wants to make $$$ too so lets all be calm. She hasn't disappointed us before.

Mariah (45,353) by Ty from USA
Mariah has a trick up her sleeve. She's gonna jump ship back to LA Reid. Trust. She put 5 years into this record to not promote it. It's filled with hits. [...] Mariah fans need to realize she's over 40 with kids. Music is no longer her first love. Yes this area has been disappointing; but you can't say when you listen to [...] that you don't feel her energy and the power in those vocals.

Tone (45,352) by G.G. from USA
SS sounds like the one who is "pressed", not to mention very angry. The tone of your message is aggressive and rude. If you, or any other lamb, really thinks sales and promotion won't affect future projects then you are delusional. Mariah Carey is a brand, and if people lose faith in that brand and the brand becomes tarnished the offers and opportunities won't come as often or as easily. People/companies will distance themselves from her, because nobody really wants to collaborate or associate with someone they feel is a flop or someone who they think isn't going to promote a project. Mariah isn't even using her Instagram, Twitter or Facebook to promote the single or album, which is free and a very basic way of promoting. As far as fans promoting the album, I and many others have. But, if the artist themselves isn't helping, there's not much we as fans can do.

Edward (45,351) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
I laughed so hard at your post. I was going to say the same thing that it doesn't suit someone who is so rude in their own post to go ahead and preach others how to behave. I don't really think anyone on the board that are complaining about the promotions or lack of contact from Mariah are being rude in any way. As fans we have the right to feel frustrated, shows how we feel so passionately about Mariah's work. Something Mariah doesn't seem to be feeling currently. I am sick and tired of "she doesn't own you a dime" or "if you are pissed don't buy her music, she is so rich she would care". Well hello, I am sure she would care. This is a woman who insists on being introduced as "the best selling female artist of all time, more #1's than any other solo artist", she allegedly hung up on a radio interview when the interviewer mistakenly said 80 million albums sold instead of "over 200 million". Mariah is a legend, and the fact that now only people can say that "oh she sold 10000 more than JLo" is not fine by me. Whoever says that public exposure wouldn't translate into sales is delusional. I just want MC to atleast appear to care for an album she spent so many years perfecting. It seems like she just threw it out there and then is going out of her way to ignore anything to do with it. She is all over social media talking about life, but not one mention anything to do with the album, except for the occasional "Me. I am Mariah. Out now. Get your copy at iTunes."
