MC's dwindling fanbase is confused (45,350)
by jaker20 from US
| |
|
|
Daydream327, I posted something similar a few weeks back. MC's album sales shows that MC's fans have either abandoned her, or don't care much about her. 50k sales is JLo's level, and that says a lot. She has sunk to that level. The woman once considered one of the greatest in pop music, has become irrelevant in the music scene. Hey, no one can stay young forever. But does she has to go down in such an embarrassing manner destroying her legacy? Look at Barbra Streisand, when she's got a new album, fans are there (in fact the 70 year old did beat MC's Imperfect Angel in 2011 and debuted ahead). This means fans stuck with Barbra. MC does not know what she is losing. Look at the last 5 years: consecutive flop singles and albums, American Idol drama, lipping and or singing for dictators, embarrassingly photoshopped photos and album covers, delayed releases, abandoned promos, list goes on. Her image is so tarnished few people want to admit in public that they are fans. Just a few years ago, I am constantly in debates against Madonna fans. I was furiously defending MC. You know why? Because her place in the industry is in that level. Now, no one would even dare to compare her with Madonna because it would be an embarrassment to Madonna. At best, her career has sunk so low she is now a competition of JLo. "Yeah, MC's flop sales is ok, cause you know... look at JLo." JLo must be very happy. Personally, I didn't realize I would see this in my lifetime.

ss / how delusional (45,349)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
SS has spoken, so now it is time to shut our mouths and go with her opinion. As I have stated before, opinions are like the ass, everybody has one, and so far I haven't ever seen anybody riding two horses with only one ass. Your opinions are yours, and not to be imposed on anybody. Your post was rude, yet you sit on your high horse preaching against rudeness, the elephant telling the rabbit that his ears are too big, how hypocritical. Last time I checked, rule no. 2 for posting on this messageboard "Messages that are insulting to Mariah or other artists will not be posted" was still in effect. By expressing our frustrations, demanding promotion or stating ideas about how MIAMTEC could be promoted we are not disrespecting Mariah. When opinions are so harsh on the nervous system, people should consider a Tylenol. I personally just skip to the next post.

The delusion is out of hand (45,348)
by Daydream327 from USA
| |
|

Okay this is my honest opinion and some may not agree with it and find it "negative" but it has to be said. Some of you fans really need to step into reality. Let's be real, the disappointment by fans this era isn't solely about the lack of promotion, it's about wanting Mariah to take control of her legacy and not let it tarnish any further. So let's see the legendary Mariah Carey only sold 56k copies of MIAM, you know what that tells me? It tells me that even her once hardcore fans didn't buy this album. Mariah has sold over 200 million worldwide, she should be able to push at least 150k off her name alone. Look at Eminem, his last album sold 700k in it's first week (mind you it came out just last year), you know why? Because his core fanbase is still with him and supporting him. The whole "only young people buy music" is invalid if you're an established artist that has a huge following. Also JD's explaination is just a bad excuse. So why didn't the "lambs" support this album? I mean I can mention several reasons but I won't simply because I know most fans already know them. Mariah's fanbase has decreased greatly and is currently scattered, isn't that a clear sign that she has truly lost touch with her audience? Nevertheless, the album is amazing but it's time we look at the big picture. Mariah has to find a way to re-connect with her core audience again. She has to get serious about her legacy and image. People have had many misconceptions about her and unfortunately these are now becoming truth.

Music videos (45,346)

I hope Mariah decides to release Faded as a future single. A video for Faded could be of her writing in her diary reflecting on a lost love with faded pictures coming to life of happier times.

Pressed about promo? Get over it (45,345)
by ss from Canada
| |
|
|
It's not 1999 anymore, all of the delusion about promo for this single ain't gonna happen. Get mad, stay pressed because she's not gonna promote. It's a different time in the industry and you all know this so why cry over it? She's not selling, big deal, you have the album enjoy it. You want the Mimi "experience" all over the TV, mags and radio, go back to 2005 when people gave a crap about music. No one cares and you all know this, she's gotten mad press over the Internet, people are aware but no one's buying. She had 3 million people watching her home special on NBC along with whatever viewership from the Today Show performance, you think people didn't watch and aren't aware? She's over it, if the album sells it's gonna be solely based on whether YDKWTD is going to be a hit on radio and word of mouth. So you can all sit there and bitch like your life depends on it like you're entitled to it when nothing is going to change. Even some artists at the peak of their careers aren't selling right now and you're making a fuss over MC like you think it's another MiMi era. No one's telling anyone they can't post what they feel, just be a little respectful towards Mariah and a little less demanding over it. She doesn't owe you a dime, you chose to purchase her albums and you chose to be a fan or whatever you wanna call yourselves. I'm just tired of the rudeness on here in general. Take it for what it is, and just enjoy the album, it's out of your hands. You wanna do something, spread the word.

Huge fan (45,344)
by OGmattyICE from US

Hey guys. To keep it brief, I recently bought a few Mariah posters and framed them and put them in my room, but the poster I am coveting over all others is a poster of her MTV Unplugged artwork as that's my favorite picture of her. If any one of you see that poster for sale please let me know. Preferably 24x36, but any size would be gravy. Thanks so much.

Amen to every word you said. Amen. I grow so tired of fans telling other fans what they can and cannot post. Seriously, if an opinion bugs you, ignore it. How hard is that? I love this album. It bugs me that she isn't doing more promotion for such a great album. For someone who is so detailed oriented, it surprises me MC isn't more upset over all the disorganization. Don't like my opinion? Tough. I'm not going to stop simply because some nameless face on a computer screen tells me too. *sigh* Rant over, lol. Aaron, that video was amazing. You really are talented.

You're Mine video idea (45,342)
by Dove from USA
| |
|
|
I apologize if I'm posting too much, last one today I promise. I went on a roadtrip and listened to the album over and over and came back inspired. I like to read other people's video ideas so I hope people enjoy reading mine. At the beginning she lights a scented candle and the voice over says "I just can't seem to give you up, you're mine" as she sits in the tub. Her hair like in the pool scene in DFAU. Then the "mine, mine" the scene from the official video. First verse: she's in a dark room in bed hugging her pillow and a tear rolls down hercheek. Then it goes to the scene from the video where she's holding her boobs. You make me feel: scenes of them hugging and being happy then her sad in bed. The official video is pretty good because she looks genuinly sad and heartbroken but it needs a little acting to explain why she's sad and disassociating by going to the deserted island. At the end they could show her belly down finally falling asleep.

Mariah's Vevo nearing 1 billion views (45,338)
by nikki from usa
| |
|
|
Currently, Mariah's on the verge of getting certified for 1 billion views on Vevo. People forget Mariah has a lot of music videos. Vevo is currently missing the music videos from the Rainbow album with the exception of TGIFY and Crybaby. In addition, they're missing most of her remix music videos from the 90's. Add those and she'll get there. The remix for My All is up, but disguised with a picture from the original version. Mariah's current Vevo stats are at 966 million.

More marketing ideas (45,333)
by Dove from USA
| |
|
|
It would also be neat if she did another unplugged type concert at her house in the mermaid room with all the hidden humidifiers she needs and sang her new songs, or songs she's never sung live, or songs that should have been singles, etc. She could do it as many times as it took until they were flawless and then released it as a DVD/album. Next year is 25 years of the amazing Tokyo concert. It would be nice to own an authorized copy of that. I would love to own high quality digital copies of all of her specials. The VHS copies I made from when they aired are not cutting it. She should have polite interviewers like Barbara Walters and Oprah interview her at her house. They could send her the questions ahead of time so she can think of how to answer them. New questions that the interviewers come up with. The concert at home was a good idea but needed to be longer and to feel more intimate. They could advertise on the day of the concert that the digital download of the album is $5 for that day only. When Taylor Swift's Speak Now album came out it was only $2.99 for that day, no wonder it sold so many copies. And when I said a concert to honor her I don't mean a roast. MC is a serious artist who should be respected and honored, not made fun of. Another idea is that she could guest star on the show with Ariana Grande. That girl comes off as such a likable sweetheart. The story could be that Ariana is a big fan and wins a contest to meet her and Mariah gives her good advice and Ariana gets to watch her perform backstage. Sometimes not just selling music they're selling a dream. When I was younger and I listened to her music or watched her videos I was her (Mariah). For that moment I was this the sweet, beautiful girl who sang like an angel and had everything. If anyone said anything bad about Mariah they were saying it about me. It's important for her to be nice to the new artists because they have legions of young fans who are going to turn on her if she's not. There is no reason to be jealous or feel threatened anyway because MC is the best. I'm not ssaying she is jealous or threatened - only that it comes off tthat way. Just my own humble opinion.

Marketing (45,331)
by Dove from USA
| |
|
|
I don't know the nuts and bolts of how marketing works but I know what things look like to me as a consumer. I think #Beautiful was the best choice for lead single. She looks like a goddess in the video, although I didn't like the single cover one bit. When she promoted TEOM there were commercials promoting it every 5 minutes. One where she hit the highest note, then the treadmill one where she said she didn't know what sneakers were. I think they should have a shoe to honor her for her 25 years as a musician. They could have artists who have said they admire her sing her songs: Christina Aguilera, Kelly Calrkson, Leona Lewis, Beyonce, Jojo, Ariana Grande, etc. The problem is Mariah makes singing seem effortless so people kind of take it for granted and don't appreciate how hard it is to sing like her. Marketing is super important. When I was in high school Britney Spears was rammed down our throats, she was on MTV all the time. Back then her voice got on my nerves but now every time I hear her I think of that time. Whenever I hear someone try to sing Britney I have to go hear the original. Mariah's actually the good whiskey. Even the best singers can't sing like her.

Staying home with babies (45,329)
by Dove from USA

I think she really does want to stay home with her babies. On AI they were still babies and didn't say, "Mommy don't go to work." She's not going to be homeless or starve if she doesn't work. If I was her and my 3 year olds asked me to stay home I would.

Thirsty video idea (45,328)
by Dove from USA
| |

[...] Nick is in a Phantom driving towards the Hollywood sign. It cuts back and forth between him driving and Mariah wearing a peachy pink, jean, short shorts-jumpsuit type thing; her hair is big and sideswept bangs like in Honey remix, fan blowing on her, gold mic. She sings: Chasing them bright lights even change. Well, almost anything. [...] You used to be mister all about me. Now your ass was me, so here it's a Great Gatsby type scene. He fills ups his friend's house with flowers and "accidentally" runs into her. Or he could be staring off into the green light across the lake where she lives. [...] Pull down them Tom Fords, and act like you see. Nick is getting out of a limo and lowering his shades and cameras flashing. [...] You're thirsty for a dream, you can't quench. Mariah is at home with DemBabies, the sink is full of dirty dishes, floor has piles of toys and dirty diapers tons of laundry on the couch that need to be folded. (I know she has help but it's funnier this way.) [...] Why you try so damn hard? She sings it to the T.V. when she sees him on it. And then the second time she says it she sings it into the camera, like to us and him if he's watching. At the end she and Nick are on the roof of their apartment drinking champagne, to let us know it's just a joke and they're okay.

Well I hope everything you said in your post turns out to be true. I am fine with her waiting until she looks her best to appear in front of the world as long as she ends up coming out and promoting the album. Like you mentioned, this album will decide what kind of deal she will get if she chooses to switch labels. All the best to Mariah. Here's to hoping this album and YDKWTD gets the recognition they deserve. Just to pass time, my next choice of singles would be Faded, Thirsty and MILG (in that order).

Mimi, Marissa / the witch (blasphemous fan) hunt (45,322)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
There are some fans here that not only expressed their opinions on the way they please, but they also want to tell other fans, based on their opinions, what a fan should say or be like, which is ridiculous. Some of these holy fans don't understand that part of being a fan is not only the excitement of getting great music, but the exposure of the artist delivering it, the interviews, the artist' view about the creative process of the album, the success, the concerts. They think that if Mariah put good music out, and it doesn't sell well, more good music is coming soon. They seem to think that Mariah is going to use her good money to produce music that won't bring her any money back, that's how delusional they are. They think that Mariah will risk going on tour with an album that nobody knows about. If it were for them, they would just post: "MIAMTEC is a great album" everytime, but how boring would this messageboard be if all we can do is regurgitate the same "positive affirmations" over and over again? Drink from the f*cking water if you'd like, if you don't, just don't, let it run. This is not a conversion ceremony.
