K Perry (45,176)

Who cares about what Katy Perry thinks or does? You would think with 50+ milly followers she would be the best selling female artist. Wrong. She's still only known for kissing a girl and one day her controversy will run out and Mariah's legacy will still be there. Enough said.

R Kelly (45,175)
by Darryle from USA

I hope that BGK wasn't the only song Mariah did with R. Kelly. BGK was lazily done and feels like its been done before. A lot of his collabs are based around sex or scandal like cheating. I understand that he's known for sex songs and stuff like that but I was hoping for something uplifting or something like "It's your world" by Jennifer Hudson. R. Kelly is in it and the song is catchy and in my opinion better than BGK. I'll just wait and see if he's on the next album.

A couple of notes... and where is MC? (45,174)
by Randy from USA
| |
|
|
Note that many was upset with MC's promotion of this album, yet J Lo has been on every show known to mankind promoting her album and she had a smaller first week. I can't say that MC's lack of promotion hurt her album. Picking YDKWTD as a first single would've probably helped though. The album is growing on me slowly. I really think Meteorite is a departure from anything she's ever done and MC is good for giving us something left field with each album. My favorites are still Cry, although I don't like the lyrics, Camaflauge, YDKWTD, One More Try, although her vocals are ghastly, Heavenly, It's a Wrap, although I hate MJB's speech at the beginning, Becha Gonna Know and TAOLG, although the lyrics need work. Even though the album is growing on me, I think it's her worst by far. My last question is what is MC doing? It's very quiet so what project is she working on? I kind of think she is letting the album phase out and then will sign a new deal and release another album within a year. I also smell trouble for her and Nick. When they got married, I gave it 7 years. You aren't seeing them together much anymore. I don't wish anything bad on anyone but I feel as though they aren't well meshed. She's high maintenance and he's immature.

Record sales were only officially counted from 1991 onwards. Mariah's first album and Madonna's 80s records (which were huge) are therefore estimated or they go by what the record companies shipped to stores. Mariah is the best selling of the soundscan era by far, but other artists like Celine and Whitney also had huge albums in the 80s which is why there is a debate about it.

I think is so pathetic this thing of "who's better?" Leave the other singers alone. I don't like Madonna as a person but I love some of her work.

Can someone explain why there is some debate between who has sold the most, Madonna or Mariah? Regardless of who has, MC obviously is superior.

Mariah and her age (45,170)
by Jono from USA
| |
|
|
I think Mariah should be free to wear whatever she wants, it's her body, and how she wants to present it should be up to her and not what the media expects. That being said, I do think Mariah is afraid of aging. Marilyn Monroe is her image icon, and she's the epitome of glam. I feel that Mariah thinks that she will no longer be considered sexy as she gets older, when in reality she is one of the most beautiful woman in the world. Sexy can be understated too, it doesn't solely just rest on the amount of skin being shown.

Has anybody heard this song? It came out this year and it samples Emotions. I love it when people sample Mariah. I was obsessed with that electro song that sampled "Prisoner" a few years ago. Amazing.

Wendy was maybe a little to harsh but she has a point. I personally am a fan of her music (always have been) but I am not always a fan of Mariah's style in appearances and interviews. Her "eternal 13" statements gives the wrong impression of her, that she is ashamed of her age. She does have older listeners now and I am not sure her image today would appeal to the younger either. Her Barbie doll appearance (with that I mean she is always wearing gowns etc) and her strange diva behavior (calling people "darling" and being over the top, being late to important appearances etc) gives a bad impression. I don't believe Mariah is like that in RL, and this different "persona" thing is weird. I have certainly taken notice and I am sure many others do, and this is probably the reason why her latest CD has not made such a huge impact (due to bad promotion for the music, no video or any big number of performance or interviews). I personally love her new songs, but the cover art again feels wrong. She, the artist, feels distant and not like she is a person. It's to similar to her previous covers, nothing new or interesting. You can clearly see it's an older picture. I just wish she would embrace her age and just be herself for the beautiful person she is. I am not saying this to be mean, I am just being honest and up front. I have loved her voice and music talents for a long time. I wish her to continue giving us fantastic music, I just hope she finds herself again.

Wendy Williams (45,163)
by Paul from Usa

Personally, I've never cared for Wendy Williams. I hate gossip. I hate rumors. I hate when people say things about people without checking to see if the sources are trustworthy and factual. Wendy Williams has a lot of nerve. I've always though age looks and sounds like a man, and come on the breasts are obviously enhanced. Hope her show burns out.

I agree with you. The media will always find a way to hate on her when she fails or succeeds. Did the author of the last article actually did any research or made it up? The author did not read any reviews of MIAM from Donatella Versace, Timbaland, and George Michael, or watched the TeeNick Top 10 Countdown.

Miss Carey, Mariah (45,161)
by Anthony Basco from Cardiff, Wales

|
|
Well, this is turning out very interestingly. First of all, on this message board, many fans come out and say how they're tired of Mariah, her behaviour, her antics, her nonchalant attitude towards everything other than her hair, her persona, her phrases and some even expressing nothing but disdain towards her music over the past 17 years. Some even appear to become annoyed with other fans who don't feel all these negative things about Mariah. And now, not only her fans, but the media at large seems out to get her. The only thing I can say regarding these observations and what they are amounting to (which I feel is mass bullying) is this. Mariah, I love you and thank God for you and for you being who you are every day. You have changed and improved my life in so many indirect (and probably sometimes direct) ways that I can't imagine life without you in it. Just like you, I have a life and love and friends and hobbies, but unlike you I have you to look up to. So successful and so talented, so beautiful, so strong and yet so fragile, I admire you so greatly that you are able to withstand this constant attack coming from everywhere. I don't know if Mariah ever reads this board, but I just need to say, please don't change. People like me rely on you to keep the faith, and to really mean it when you say it's ok to be just you, yourself. You. You are Mariah. Me. I am Anthony. Thank you and please don't change. Ever.

Re: Mariah's purported "diva attitude" (45,159)
by Benjamin Fisher from United States
| |
|
|
I am really over this idea that Mariah needs to become more "likable" in order to garner more respect from the public and from critics. They never respected her even when she was a demure, shy neophyte and tried to please everyone. So I'm fine with Mariah being a little impatient, a little combative; otherwise people would walk all over her. The truth is that our Western culture does not like women who do things on their own terms. Mariah clearly gives nary a f*** about being well-liked, and I applaud that. She has worked herself to death to establish herself in this industry, and people still disrespect her and her artistry. And, seriously, even if Mariah has any kind of attitude; it's definitely mild in comparison to what other people get away with. So let's please stop with the idea that Mariah changing her persona will somehow make her more likable. They will always find something to criticize about her.

Best album of 2014 (45,158)
by B from USA

Me I Am Mariah is the best album of 2014. This album is deserving of the Best Contemporary R&B Album Grammy Award. #Beautiful deserved a nomination last year. Katy Perry is a poor man's Britney. Who cares what she thinks? Wendy needs to take her act to Vegas. Oh wait she has no talent. She makes up stories and spreads lies as facts.

Cry lyrics (45,156)
by TR from USA
| |
|
|
I'm not completely convinced she says "bless out soul" at that point in the song because it's kind of disconnected, like a throwaway afterthought. I actually think it could be read and interpreted likewise: "Imprudently, I left every cell in me so naked somewhere at the core of you" (without considering the consequences, I bared myself completely open and emotionally raw, and I never realized that I let you take control of that). So essentially I think she's basically saying that he still owns parts of her heart/soul than she can bring herself to admit.

I've gushed about MILG and Faded, so… (45,154)

If there was a Mariah song that trumps all of her hip-hop collaborations possibly since the Fantasy remix, it's Dedicated. A fan has shared on Facebook her clear vision of what the video should look like should it ever be released (please): a party with Mariah and Nas reminiscing about the golden era of R&B and hip-hop, paying respect to those who have passed away (Tupac Shakur, ODB, Aaliyah, etc.) as other 90s R&B/hip-hop/urban acts make cameo appearances as party guests (Mary J. Blige, Jay-Z, Diddy, TLC, R. Kelly, Bone Thugs 'N' Harmony, Missy Elliott, Boyz II Men, Brandy, etc.). That would just be heaven (especially for 90s babies like me), and probably would be a hit on Vevo as well, with fans watching if only "just for the nostalgia". Please make it happen. So the song may not have the usual balls-out-I'm-effing-Mariah chorus that we've come to expect from her, but it still makes one hell of a groove. That perfectly chosen sample. Them synths melting into each other in the background. Nas. Mimi's appropriately restrained vocals. That relaxed summer vibe. That unexpected yet welcome Fantasy throwback. And although we all know (and hate) how Mariah loves a good bubbly, who'd ever think she'd take it to the studio and go as far as letting "the elusive drunk chanteuse" moment make the final mix of one of her songs? Rarely has she put out a track that doesn't take itself too seriously and is proudly so. Hip-hop has never been this classy. "Carry like Mariah" indeed.

To Martyn - UK fan meeting (45,153)
by Colin Clarke from United Kingdom
| |
|
|
I was looking at putting something together for the UK lambs and I had a meeting with a fellow lamb about it. Due to his personal and working commitments, he made the decision that he cannot give the time required at this time. I very much look forward to welcoming him to the fan event when it is arranged. I believe we are connected on Facebook and I am very much up for holding a fan event and have no issues in putting something together if the UK lambs want it and are happy to support. Perhaps those that are interested would be happy to take the time and email me, colin.clarke77@gmail.com and declare their interest and I can take it from there. Let's do it UK lambs.
