Charmbracelet (44,809)
by RockyRoc from England
| |
|
|
Hello, this is my first post. I love MC yada yada. Ever since the MIAM album came out, I have this newly found appreciation/love for Charmbracelet, it was my least favourite album of hers and I just found it weird that people have commented about how they've suddenly started to like Rainbow and the songs from it. I mean songs like "You Got Me" and "Irresistible" ("Mariah's on the west side, west side" ) are just so amazing, I was so stupid for not realizing that before. That whistle from "Bringin' on the Heartbreak" killed me and brought me back to life at the same time. As for MIAM, my top 5 songs are: Dedicated, Faded, Make it Look Good, #Beautiful, Supernatural. I don't have a least favourite because the whole abum is gold.

PJW - Mariah vocal condition (44,808)
by ADAM from USA
| |
|
|
I think Mariah wouldn't risk the danger of not being able to sing again with surgery, especially considering the fact she learned how to sing with the nodules intact and what if they're removed and she can never sing again? Julie Andrews is the best example of someone popular who regrets the surgery. Maybe Mariah has consulted with her privately about it. Who knows? However IMO as a fan, I think she should consider some medical procedure to repair her voice because it's clear even from her speaking voice, how hoarse she has become over the years. At this point I think her usual remedies of a steam room and vocal rest aren't enough to regain the condition of her voice to what it was. I think there are enough professional opera singers, musicians, and doctors to consult with that can attest to the fact that maybe surgery is the way to go because as time goes on her voice is "vanishing". BTW does anyone think that maybe she drinks excessively because she's sad about the deteriorating state of her voice and maybe that's her biggest insecurity?

Rainbow (44,807)
by PJW from The U.K.

|
|
After the conversations about "Did I do that" I took another listen. I'm still not crazy about it but hear it very differently than what I did and definitely wouldn't skip it anymore. I've always enjoyed the melody of her verses, but found there was something dark about the song, but I never got Into Mystikal as an artist. This whole album is fantastic, to be honest. My least favourite track used to be "After tonight" as I couldn't sit with the production and was still hung up on "My all" being her Latin track but now it's almost a completely different song to me. She sounds beautiful and sings so sensually, you can almost see what she's feeling for luis. And the production is very much of the song, if you know what I mean? I think "Rainbow" is about to get a new life in my house.

I would prefer not to think about it. I don't think she should have the surgery. I'm fine with her lipping her performances. I agree some lifestyle changes might restore and prevent further damage. I don't think any damage is permanent.

The ruthless media (44,805)
by Lamb_O_Chop from Australia
| |
|
|
The sad thing about this whole ordeal with the current state of MC's career is how henious the media has been towards her. These evil individuals write some of the most blatantly hateful articles and are dying to see her crack under pressure or have a "breakdown". That's why I love that Mariah keeps a huge smile on her face, enjoys her quality time with dem babies, and don't let them see her sweat. That's very inspiring to me, because there's truly more important things in life than being the top selling this or that all the time such as her children, marriage, and personal peace. Keep your head up MC, there's a rainbow at the end of the storm.

A sore topic, but (44,804)
by PJW from The U.K.
| |
|
|
So this will rile a few people but as a disclaimer, I mean no disrespect or offence to anyone. My (quite serious) question is: what is Mariah going to do about her voice? Will she undertake surgery for her nodules? I've thought about it a lot recently and today had my live performances playlist on random. It went from Reflections (at home for the holidays 01) to My All (Pavarotti and friends), AYNAF (procters) to I'm That Chick (hills finale). I don't need to say that the difference between them all is considerable, especially between AYNAF and IMC. I also read these very interesting forum opinions yesterday. I love MIAM but feel that vocally, she's at a point where something has to give or some decisions have to be made. Does she carry on and risk degrading her voice more (something she's obviously very careful with as we can see with the lipping) does she change her lifestyle dramatically or does she have nodule surgery and all associated with it? What would you guys prefer? And please, let's all discuss this nicely with mature respect for each other.

I know that some artist own or have to buy their master recordings, Prince who ended up buying them, Jonas Brothers own theirs, and a couple of other artist I forget own theirs as well. But I started to wonder if she owns her master recordings under Universal, because I have notice everything she puts out it says it's a division of "any label she has recorded under Universal" and Mariah Carey. It's not the same when she did releases at Sony or Virgin.

MC background singers / Whitney (44,802)
by Billy from Greece
| |
|
|
I was checking some Whitney videos, and came across this one from 2008, which I had quickly seen when it first aired, but never did I notice that all of the background singers were Mariah's. I knew Mary Ann had worked with Whitney around 2009, but here you can see Melonie Daniels as well as Takeytha Johnson. Also, although I had found it disappointing back in 2008, Whitney showed some real pipes here. To quote Janet, "Don't it always seem to go, that you don't know what you got till it's gone."

B / The Roof (44,801)
by Bill from the UK
| |
|
|
Hi B, I agree, The Roof has got to be up there as one of Mariah's defining moments in her career. The only other song which comes close to being so atmospheric is probably Everything Fades Away. I agree that all elements from the lyrics, structure, video, sample etc. were beautiful and on point. I also love the vocal layers and how softly she sings the song. The sample also gives an undercurrent of urgency which I think is what makes the track stand out so much. A definite member of my top 5 ever songs by her.

The new album, I'm calling it then because I'm not liking the title (44,800)
by Gemma from western australia

I got the new album on Spotify yesterday and to be completely honest it's not bad. I'm not sure if I like it because I'm just a huge fan or what lol. I mean I quite liked Glitter, both the movie and soundtrack. So I think I'm one of those fans who loves all Mariah's wether it's bad or not lol. I loved the song Supernatural with Monroe on it, it was so cute.

MIAM Top 5 (44,799)
by Skip from United States
| |
|
|
Love a good top 5 list. For me: 5. Supernatural - She's singing to her kids and that alone gets me in the heart. But the "Talkin' 'bout our our-our-our our-our our-our our looove" sticks in my head. 4. #Beautiful - Timeless, classic, yet fresh. Love it. 3. You Don't Know What To Do - It just makes me happy. 2. Meteorite - This makes me wish she'd get with Giorgio Moroder and do some classic hard disco a la Donna Summer. Something like "I Feel Love" or "Our Love". But this'll definitely do for now. 1. Heavenly - The key changes at the end seem to parallel the strength that she's gaining throughout the song and it just gives me chills for days. I love the entire album, though, and I feel you all on the love for Make It Look Good. I totally dig it.

MIAMTEC and "How to solve..." thoughts (44,796)
by Lainsky from Philippines
| |
|
|
I hope the person in charge of her professionally should have read these suggestions. Somehow I agree with what Eckstine said last, the she might tone down the "va va voom" image and reunite with people he mentioned in doing music. Also the suggestion of creating a mature version of her old music without loosing her identity as an artist. I do not agree that she go to the Celine direction, she continues to create music but age and phase-of-her-life appropriate and audience. Doing "country" music, not sure with this but she can try. I wish she will do a full gospel album full of inspirational and Christian songs. That would be an amazing way to celebrate her 25th year in business. As for the latest album, IMO this is a slightly mature version of Butterfly and TEOM. "Thirsty" for me is nice but it seems to be out of place. I hope and pray this album will resuscitate by releasing singles with videos and here are my top 5 bets and why. 1. YDWTD - It's like Fantasy or Dreamlover, has a commercial appeal. 2. Meteorite - This is a good risk, new, fresh, sound relevant. 3. Thirsty or Faded - For her RnB audience. 4. One More Try - For her Pop audience. 5. Heavenly - Release it as the last single, of all her gospel songs this was the best. The last three songs can be released all at once as promo, radio, or ($0.49 again - lol just kidding but they used to do this). Again these are just thoughts with hope that it can happen.

The Roof (44,795)
by B from USA
| |
|
|
After hearing Pablo express his love your Side Effects I would like to mention The Roof. I think it's the best song ever written. It's been called the height of hip hop soul's elegance and I agree. The sample, her vocals and background vocals, the lyrics and that video. Mariah Carey is the lyricist of our generation. And the voice.

Isabelle (44,793)
by Bill from the UK

Most major labels wouldn't allow an artist to own the rights to their recordings. They may have to be consulted about any releases away from their jurisdiction but ultimately the songs would remain the property of the label. However they are usually open to allowing artists to buy the rights to their songs. The Christian singer Amy Grant did that a few years back and re-mastered and re-issued all her records digitally, which was great for fans as her older albums from the 70s and 80s were really sounding worn on vinyl and cassette. I know there is a likely a treasure trove of unused songs from both Sony and Universal. I'd give anything to hear them.

Random thought (44,792)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter

The picture Mariah posted long time back of her holding a match in front of the mic in the studio was probably for the start of YM(E)'s album version. It starts off with the sound of striking a match stick.

"Heavenly" clicking noise? (44,791)

I find myself having a hard time listening to Heavenly because of the clicking noise throughout the entire song. I really love the lyrics, vocals and production minus that weird noise. Am I alone in this?

Top 5 (44,790)
by Anthony Basco from Cardiff, Wales
| |
|
|
I love the album as a body of work, truly I think it is phenomenal. But I want to play this top 5 game haha which is kinda hard for me to do, but here goes. 5. Meteorite 4. Dedicated 3. Cry 2. Supernatural 1. Make It Look Good Ok, this was too difficult. Already I feel bad about missing out some amazing songs. So take this top 5 with a pinch of salt. I love them all. Special mention - if The Art of Letting Go had been included in the album proper, it would be 1. Vision of Love and The Art of Letting Go are my two favourite songs ever.

Mariah's legacy (44,789)
by Tony Dicarlo from USA
| |
|
|
The reason why I am so disappointed on how this whole era has unraveled is because of the negative impact it is having on MC's legacy. The media and the public can't wait to attack when a project flops and this project was a major flop, from beginning to end. MC deserves better. She has worked so hard to get to where she is and it just saddens and upsets me when I hear such negativity directed to an artiste like MC. I honestly love this album, I feel its from the heart, but it was mismanaged from the get go. The article in Billboard magazine, titled "How to solve the MC problem" hit the nail on the head. If MC would read that article, and all the posts on this site, then she can start moving in the right direction. Unfortunately, without a manager like Benny M, she simply cannot compete. I mean look at JLo, she is everywhere right now, not because she has more talent than MC, but because she listens to industry insiders who can guide her properly. I have been a fan since day one and I just want MC to be respected for what she has contributed to the music industry. With the right management and promotion, the lambs could have relished and truly enjoyed the quality of music that MC is capable of. I mean the album is out of the Hot 100. That is such a shame. Mariah still has so much potential, but needless to say, without the right team behind her, not of it will be realized. C'mon MC, you have been here before, shake it off and prove yourself once again. All of your fans believe in you.

So Mariah may not be crazy after all (44,785)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
I was checking buzzfeed because well I was bored and once you get into buzzfeed you may end up being there for hours clicking from one article to another starting with "47 things about blah blah blah" to something as stupid as "The when will you die quiz". Ok so I didn't take the quiz about death. Anyways so there is a article making fun of how MC tried to pass off a picture from 1997 as a current picture, and I was like "oh lawd" people are catching on. But then I realized (with the help of one of the commentators) that our darling MC wasn't really trying to say it's a recent pic, in fact it can clearly be seen that it's a hard copy of the old picture on a table or bed or whatever and the corner of another picture can be seen on top of her picture. So maybe she was just sharing her old pictures with her kids. You all can check it out, if you care. It's called "Mariah Carey tries pawning off photo of herself from 1997, forgets the Internet exists".

My Top 5 (44,784)
by Jamie from UK
| |
|
|
1. Faded (One wonders why You're Mine was given single treatment when this TEOM-esque gem existed.) 2. Supernatural (It's so beautiful, I can really feel her joy and love for her children.) 3. Meteorite (It's a fresh sound from MC and reminds me of the underrated Almost Home.) 4. #Beautiful (Would've been higher up if it was longer.) 5. Thirsty (Ugh you're thirsty. My summer anthem. I like to blast this one in my car.) * And then there's 4 more songs I enjoy, and I don't care for the rest. I'm probably the only lamb in the world who doesn't love YDKWTD lol, Wale's voice irritates me. "I'm sorry but it's true." *sung in Charmbracelet voice*
