I don't think Mariah's music is uninteresting (42,557)
by Brad Catoe from United States

|
|
This will not be Mariah's last album. I'm sorry, but that's just crazy. Also, talking about the vocals. I really can't think of anyone in the industry who could sing like she does on You're Mine. She's gonna sign to a new label, possibly Epic, and make music as long as she lives. It's her passion.

Prediction, Mariah's farewell album (42,556)
by ADAM from USA
| |
|
|
Nikki from the USA, I think you may be onto something. I also think this may be her last album. I started thinking that based on her comment on WWHL with Andy Cohen when she mentioned that "if this were her last album" the arc she would want to convey is a complete message and that rushing the album would be a disservice. I think the length of time from her last CD and preoccupation with her personal life over making substantial music just helps support my theory. I think she's done with the music business and wants to live her life. She'll most likely keep producing music for her own purposes and other people. If you don't agree with me just keep in mind two factors - her deteriorating vocal cords and disinteresting music. When can anyone truly say they heard her not dub a performance in the last 10 years? The magic of her voice seems to only be present when she releases a studio cleaned up version of what she wants the public to hear. It's tough to acknowledge but it's true and really I'm ok with it. Its not her fault, I would do the same thing as well. She's fading out gracefully. What does the message board think? Let's debate it.

NYHotShotta / promotion (42,555)
by Marissa from USA
| |

To touch on your points about Beyonce's pre-promotion, although it's probably too late now, I wish Mariah would go a more creative route for promotion. Doing 40 interviews talking about her dogs, her unpleasant pregnancy, dem babies and 5 minutes worth of convo about the music is getting old. It's getting too predictable. As much as I love when Mariah gives us little snippets from her personal life, until she officially retires, she still needs to keep that air of unattainability and scarcity for people to take her more seriously. There are two things that are taking away from that: Nick Cannon and his blabbermouth and MC posting non-music related things on Instagram all the time and rambling about things that have nothing to do with the music. Beyonce's documentary was so exciting because there was still so much about her that we didn't know. She's intensely private. If MC did a documentary I don't think any of us would be surprised by anything in it. We know her lingo, where she vacations, all the people she doesn't associate with, the type of clothes she'll wear, we even know her sleep schedule. At this point all I want is a surprise. I just wonder if she has anything else in her bag of tricks to surprise us with because I'm having doubts.

I think I'd die if it was May 6 2015 lol. I'm sure she will stick to the committed release date, and I'm really looking forward to hearing the new songs. Less than a month to go now after this agonising wait. MC.com mentioned YME as being the "lead" single. I wonder if this means Beautiful and TAOLG have been kicked off the album now? That would be a real shame as I love those songs.

Confirmed: MC's promo starts in Canada and CNN (42,552)
by nikki from usa
| |
|
|
Mariah just did an interview that will be aired throughout this week on ET Canada and an interview with Etalk. Mariah will be featured on CNN's Leading Women on her album drop date May 6th. Mariah confirmed Stevie Wonder is on this record and Qtip. Putting all this together: "If this were my last album", having an industry party with all the dj's in the land about her past hits, having Stevie Wonder on this album when she used to say she wasn't out long enough to work with him, her promo being centralized around accomplishments. If this isn't a send-off, then this sounds like a lifetime chronicle. If this is her last album, then she doesn't really have to promote it so much after all. She won't need to.

Album promotion and May 6th (42,550)
by Bobby A from United States
| |
|
|
Lambs, we need stop worrying about May 6th. We are going to have a new album from MC. Lambs and the world will be very pleased. I have a strong feeling that we are going to get a new single next week as well as the album title and tracklisting. Something tells me the album is going to be released on May 6th in a very different way. We may have a Target or Best Exclusive with extra tracks or a bonus DVD. Completing this album has been a journey for MC and she is going to deliver that journey to lambs in a very special way. This album will be the best album of her career. Critics and radio are going to be surprised when it comes out on May 6th. I sure hope the extra studio time will give us a Pharrell, Detail, Ryan Tedder, Pop and Oak, Jack Splash, Da Internz, and Timbaland collaboration. Surely, the past month out on the beach produced some new collaborations. The week of May 6th is going to be filled with television and radio promotions. Just wait. It is going to propel the album and single to #1. No other artist is coming out with a new album on May 6th. So, MC will have a strong chance to be #1 again. Let's support Mariah by buying an extra copy on May 6th to give to a new fan. If we want her back at #1, then let's support the album with 10 times the buying power than a normal fan. We can do it. Let's make May 6th MC Day. Can we do it. Can we make it happen for MC?

The answer for your thumbs down is that, this is not Grinder, hon. Or adam4adam. No one else on here is trying to make passes at anyone else. That's so un-Mariah. Lol. Furthermore, your KIK screen name is off-putting, for this site. I'm sure the reaction would be different on Manhunt.com which, again, serves an obviously different purpose than this site. Hence the reactions (thumbs down).

R&B (42,546)
by Warr-en-Peace from United States
| |
|
|
Although there has been a resurgence of success in the R&B and Hip Hop genres, with Frank Ocean and Beyonce and the like having popular albums, none of the aforementioned artists are raking in the number ones with wholly R&B songs. In fact, none of them have had recent number one singles. It pains me to say it, but Rihanna seems to be the only one who can successfully attain a #1 with an R&B-flavored song - although it may be a stretch to call it that. Either way, if Mariah wants to go for an R&B sound, that is fine; however, she needs to realize that's not going to get her at the top of the charts. More people identify with Pop music, than they do with R&B, which is clearly evident in reviewing her career discography. Perhaps she feels doing strictly Pop music stifles her creativity, as in the early days of her career.

Jermaine/Mariah's musical direction (42,545)
by John from USA
| |
|
|
Dude, I agree with you 100%. I don't necessarily feel that Mariah has hit a creative rut, but I do think she's uncertain as to the direction she wants to go in. I think we need more songs like #Beautiful, something fresh, fun, upbeat, and different. While I love You're Mine, it's just such a tried-and-true formula. TAOLG is another gem, but would have been better left as an album cut. And I won't even speak of the original version of Triumphant. Essentially, I think Mariah needs to decide on a path, and commit to it. Are we getting an album that is Music Box/Daydream-ish with "raw ballads", an R&B/Pop hybrid like Butterfly/TEOM/Rainbow, a party record like E=MC2, or a vibe album like MOAIA? I think maybe she's worried about trying to cater to everyone, which she can't. I hope she can get her groove back after she finally "lets go" of this album. I honestly think she can still have a solid hit radio single. #Beautiful proved that last summer. Despite her age, when the music is good (TMB, Obsessed, #Beautiful), radio and the general public will respond. And notice how those hits had no rappers and weren't WBT clones. She needs to drop the rappers (or save them for the urban remixes), sing in her full voice, and stop trying to re-create WBT. I always say I'm hard on her, because I know she can do it. She's Mariah freaking Carey. She has music running through her veins. She is music.

For me all the Glitter era was fantastic. I mean, I love the album although I wasn't happy about the singles choices. But she was looking so pretty and her voice was magnificent (Lead The Way). What I love about this era is basically that we don't know anything at all. And that is kinda exiting.

We know the album is coming but (42,542)

I worry it won't sell too good due to the lack of promo. I just don't know what she has in mind but if she promotes after it drops then that would be great. Us lambs are going to buy the album obviously but what about those who haven't kept tabs on the album? I f she silently drops this they won't know about it. I just want as many people to know as possible since she worked so hard on this.

Jermaine (42,541)
by George Golden from UK
| |
|
|
The problem is not Jermaine, it's Mariah herself. She is not going to have a hit record if she does not stop that rnb hip hop music that she has been stuck with since 97. I wonder if she would be who she is now if she had started with all this hip hop. I don't get her at all. The "I am so sexy" image is overplayed, the videos are tacky, for instance Beautiful would have hit number one if it wasn't for that video. She has lost that thing that made her special. We fell in love with your voice not your body. You can be sexy without been tacky. Her music has not grown since. Every song now is a mid tempo jam. It's just ridiculous or maybe she doesn't care anymore. Triumphant Pulse remix should have been released as the original single. We need big upbeat numbers like Emotions, That Chick, LYLT. Please bin the rappers, it's enough at this point. They are ruining your work and your legacy. You are not kidding anyone that you are hood.

Re: Silent release (42,537)
by NYHotShotta from USA
| |
|
|
I don't think it'd be wise for MC to do a silent release because it'd look like she was copying Beyonce. Plus, Beyonce was really able to do a silent release because she already had strong pre-promtion with her Pepsi and H&M ads, her documentary, going on a world tour, and releasing snippets of potential album cuts so she could drop a silent release. I'm a little nervous about this new album because the promotion has been up and down. Her next single needs to be amazing. I just hope this album is amazing since she's been working on it for awhile.

Respect (42,535)
by 123 from USA
| |
|
|
I do not understand why I have seen so much disrespect from fans to Jermaine during this era. You can voice your opinion without hitting below the belt with disrepecteful comments about someone's financial situation. You question someone's intelligence and publically call them inaquaquite when it's obvious to everyone with intelligence that the silence is intentional and there is something secretly brewing and Mariah is purposely not giving us any information at this point. There is a different strategy that is being used, one that involves secrecy and possibly a surprise factor. What did Mariah do when her album title got leaked without her approval? She changed it and changed the direction of the album. Has anyone been reading that iTunes already has deals with other unnamed artists to do more iTunes exclusives a la Beyonce. I wouldn't be surprised if she has a similar set up with this new project. Mariah has discussed using different methods to release music during the turn of the millenium indicating that the labels are to blame for not embracing new methods of getting music out there when the internet came about. And enough with everyone thinking that Jermaine is a "yes" man and that Mariah would have someone on her team that was taking advantage of her that she wouldn't for a second sniff that out.

Quaid (42,534)
by Randy from USA

You took the post right out of my fingers. What's interesting is that I think this is all being handled badly and yet, I have never searched the boards or the web so frantically or fervently for an answer. So she does have us all salivating, even if it is in anger. I do think it may come out quietly due to the changes over at the label. In addition, I can't imagine her making yet another excuse to push the album back, although the reshuffling at the label would give her a good one. Or should we just all batten down the hatches and listen to old MC releases until May 6, 2015? This could be the ultimate prank, since she's a prankster. "Oh you thought I meant this year?"

Quaid / other thoughts (42,533)
by Marissa from USA
| |
|
|
I agree. I'm not even going to try to figure her out because it's useless. I feel like if Mariah did one of those Beyonce-style releases she would live to regret it. Mariah is not Beyonce. I don't mean that in terms of talent at all, but in terms of popularity in today's society. I just wonder if Mariah realizes that or if she's in denial. I just think this lack of promo is a mistake all around when your last album (aside from MCIIY) was in 09. A lot of people are trying to make sense of this era, but I think there are really a lot of problems behind the scenes and we're just dealing with the consequences. I don't think any of this stuff that's going on at this point is strategic at all. I think they are dealing with a mess and trying to pick of the pieces and try to convince us that it's on purpose. I don't care how unbothered MC tries to act on Twitter and Instagram. I'm not buying it. Why was there more national press for a Facebook release of a "not really a single" single than there is for an album? You can't tell me that that's intentional.
