Please (41,460)
by Jeremey Carey from United States

I dare you all to go watch You're Mine (Eternal) ten times and don't forget to refresh the page in between views. I've noticed the views are increasing a lot slower. Either the lambs are slacking or Vevo is fiddling with the numbers. Please help Mariah out and show your support..

Promo (41,459)
by J from USA
| |
|
|
I appreciate the radio promo Mariah has been doing but come on guys, it is 2014, people barely listen to the radio anymore. One thing I will say though is that I do agree with the people that say it's too early to call this song a flop. It has only been a week. But let's get to the truth, this song will need major promotion because obviously the anticipation for it wasn't high since it has dropped on iTunes. Can we get some live performances? Ellen? Jimmy Fallon? Something. I pray this album doesn't get pushed back again, it's been 4 long years without a new Mariah album and dammit I'm tired of waiting.

The real reason for decline (41,458)
by Joyce from USA
| |
|
|
In spite of recent missteps, the reason why none of her recent releases are gaining lift on charts is because the voice that dominated the 90’s and then some, the one that changed the course and evolution of pop music and of preferred singing styles of aspiring singers around the world, has fizzled and reduced to poor limited range with a sound of fatigue and discomfort that is unpleasant to the ear. The name Mariah Carey is synonymous with "one who sings with great skill, phenomenal vocal control and ability, with a super human vocal range". She is no longer floating on the success her past achievements. It’s time for that voice to hit the gym, for the Marilyn Monroe image to go, along with the cougar hair. She is young and looks even younger, is a good person with plenty of star power in her midst. I wish her well and love.

New era (41,456)
by Joyce from USA
| |
|
|
In a fictitious world, if I was Mariah's manager, I'd ban her from excessive usage of the words “dhaling” and “moment”, let the wardrobe, hair and image designer go and obtain from gowns and gloves for a minimum of 5 years, Have her cut her cougar “trend follower” hair style and try something new and fresh and sleek, require more dark blue jeans (she looks so good in tight dark jeans) and cute tight top shirts mon-thurs look – as to come down to earth and more relatable and youthful. Hire vocal consultants to assist in rehabilitation of the out of shape vocal chords and set up a safe, doctor approved regular work out routine of the voice to get it back to star power. Then, put together a think tank of artists to conceptualize new music, that strategically sounds unlike albums past. But I'm not.

Randy and last album with contract (41,453)
by Blake from USA
| |
|
|
Actually Madonna did have a top 10 hit with "Give Me all your lovin" from that album, but as far as her album sales, yea it barley went gold. Her tour however rocked out of all female tours ever. So that is almost better than hits. The artist usually only makes their bucks from touring. Like everyone else, I just hope this new album doesn't get shelved regardless of a current hit song. There was something online I read that said if this is Mariah's album with IDJ, lets hope this album gets released because she hasn't accumilated enough hits for a second greatest hits collection. Is this true? It can't be.

New album (41,452)
by Isaac Ortiz from USA
| |
|
|
I'm kind of worried about Mariah's new era. I don't think that "You're mine" was a good way to start it off. I mean "Beautiful" was the main single off the album. And it was great. Okay? Why not just have released the album and save what she came up with or wanted to put on another album? It kind of makes me wonder and disappoints me that out of all the songs she has recorded she decides to release "You're mine". "You're mine" is a song I would skip and not listen to. Even the ringtones to the Pepsi commercial sound better. And I don't know how she would let those songs go to waste. She should have made an album out of it. At this point, I don't think I could take another bad song or an album delay.

The diva moment on Jimmy was really cute because it was well planned, made sense in the setting and was clear Mariah was playing it up for fun and laughs and joking about herself.

Three great songs our of five ain't bad. Almost Home, #Beautiful, and You're Mine(Eternal) are three great songs. They work together. I enjoyed Mariah's vocals on The Art Of Letting Go but was underwhelmed with the lyrics. She was the featured artist on Triumphant which to me is the worst song she has ever released. Randy obviously was a yes man. J.D. is doing his best. You're Mine is a traditional Mariah Carey ballad with Mariah Carey video. She isn't Madonna, she has never needed visuals to sell her songs. Of course in the age of YouTube, videos seem to be all that matters. Your song sucks or you can't sing oh well just ger naked.

Mariah is capable of being more grown (41,449)
by Me. I am Carly from USA
| |
|
|
The reason I believe Mariah's image is such a big deal, is that frankly I don't think she is competing with the younger singers even if the radio kids like her song. I think they are gonna relate to the younger newbies. Mariah's audience in my opinion is a tad older like myself mostly or more mature at least and we are living in an 99% moment, we also have been there done that and expect more because we are grown. Mariah needs to catch up, we can have some diva when it is fun and healthy, but life is hard and she is very fortunate to have the beautiful babies and handsome hubby and be so talented, and have the lifestyle, so time to outgrow the negativity cattiness and insecurity or at least rethink your popularity if you don't.

Mariah is not meant for dirty business, she is an artist (41,448)
by Me. I am Carly from USA

I really sense that Mariah has finally realized that the life she has at home is real and the music business is business. She just hasn't figured out how to feel about it (right now she is showing her anger and resentment). I think it is very personal for her when she doesn't get the love the way she used to. If Mariah can play the game a bit more and separate herself a bit more she will be more successful. Somebody tell Mariah she needs to call Olivia Pope stat.

Why? (41,447)
by Lyric from USA
| |
|
|
Why do some people keep trying to change others' opinions on the song? Telling people to listen to the song more or appreciate certain aspects of the song. I don't know about anyone else, but I know within the first 30 seconds of a song whether or not I like it. It's just silly to try and get people to like something their ears aren't feeling. No one is obligated to like every song from their favorite artist. Forcing someone to let the song "grow on them" is silly. I happen to really like YM but I'm not gonna go around telling people there's something wrong with them if they don't like it. I hated TAOLG and I will be the first to admit it. Let's just allow everyone to have their own tastes and opinions. And for those claiming the song has had little promo, what do you call radio interviews and television appearances? Mariah should do Ellen.

Radio continued (41,445)

So I guess I am saying Mariah should really be watching iTunes to see what her popularity is and what people like. Radio does not seem to be an accurate barometer across the board in my opinion.

Response to Carly (41,444)
by Alex from England

I'm with you. While I love all her albums including the earlier ones, I do think Mariah became more interesting as an artist from 1997 onwards. At least we all know the music we get is what she wants us to get. Also, she has shown her sense of humor and self-deprecating image a lot more and she literally cracks me up. Music-wise, I do think she had great songs in her early years (she always has) but her vocals have grown so much in the meantime. Honestly for me, her vocal peak was 1996/1997 when she recorded Butterfly, her voice is sultry, magnificent and on top in her all her registers. Daydream was vocally good but I prefer how she sounds on Butterfly and Glitter for example. Her style of writing has evolved so much as well and nowadays she is as comfortable writing an introspective song like Languishing as a playful one like Obsessed. This indicates to me pure growth and talent. People should actually listen to her albums back to back and recognize how much she's evolved instead of being stuck in 90's mode. Sure I do miss the quality of her voice from that era but I must say she had a fantastic belting voice on Charmbracelet and TEOM. I think her voice was at her "worst" on MOAIA but quickly redeemed herself with MC2Y. Mariah has an amazing body of work, has had different textures to her voice and has tried out different things. People saying she's doing the same thing over again. Triumphant, Beautiful, TAOLG, YM don't sound anything alike to me.

Radio (41,443)
by Me. I am Carly from USA
| |
|
|
I listened to the radio when I was younger, mostly because I was out and partying and hearing songs and wanted to talk about the new singers and also I wanted people to identify with and try to look like and style myself and find myself. I am 35 now and in a different phase so I don't request unless it is just to try to support someone. I am sure that as far as radio it is a younger audience, am I right? On the other hand, I am the first in line to purchase on iTunes.

Don't miss the early 90's (41,441)
by Me. I am Carly from USA

I can't be the only person who is totally fine with Mariah Mottola being a thing of the past. Yes she was adorable but much of that time she was also a complete bore, and like a piece of china you couldn't touch, I remember how I got two seconds with her at the Butterfly signing and was pushed away by her team (until she finally decided to end that phase and be herself more). So yes she is not the best at protecting her image now, she needs to take stock and down the dive BS and just be a living legend. But I do not miss the fake princess, the Honey era up until Emancipation of Mimi is my favorite, that is what I hope she can recapture and I feel it with this new song and look just not with the commitment and attitude.

Mariah has the power, will she use it? (41,440)
by Me. I am Carly from USA

I am absolutely certain that Mariah will have another number one. She will and there is no doubt about it, she just has to want it bad enough and right now she just refuses to really play the reindeer games. I remember with the glitter era Sam Goody was giving away a free poster with the album and I got all the posters because the store couldn't sell the album. People gave up on M and she just isn't focused now much like that she is in a weird place. When she wants it she will chart, and I very much expect this album to be wonderful, but maybe she wants to sit on the thrown and not fight with the newbies, be a songwriter, mom, wife, stay in the studio.

But then my question is, what are they going to do keep releasing singles until one catches on? What if one doesn't? I understand what you are saying and somewhat agree. But as an artist with one album left, are they really going to shelve her or will they drop her? And look at Madonna's last releases. No airplay, no hit single but album was released on time, went to #1 and then dropped quickly. Look at Celine's last release. As a fan I know I am biased but I feel as though they need to release the album on time no matter how the single does. There isn't much of an option because she's not guaranteed to have a surefire single based on her record since 2008. It has been hit or miss. One thing I can say for sure though, Mariah has never put out a bad album. Some are better than others but they are all top quality in my opinion.

Mariah's top singles (41,437)
by enwar00 from usa
| |
|
|
There was an article on Billboard yesterday that listed Mariah's top selling singles, both digital and physical. The highest was All I Want For Christmas is you, followed by One Sweet Day, Fantasy, Always Be My Baby, and Hero. What I thought was interesting was that the oldest song aside from AIWFCIY that's sold the most digitally is Always Be My Baby, which I always say has the most recurrent airplay. This makes me think Mariah's singles were most popular during Daydream. That makes me think of Stacey lol. Also, AIWFCIY turns 20 this year. Scary.

From a business standpoint / creative control (41,436)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
It is evident that IDJ is looking for a hit single to carry the new album. They might actually push the release date temporarily if YM(E) doesn't pick up on airplay and sales. IDJ is in it to make money, and if promotions and videos are going to cost more than what they are going to make, they won't just do it, it would be ridiculous in any business sense, and I don't blame them. Back in the day many artists were dropped from Sony roster to have enough budget to promote Mariah, because she was a force back then, and that's the way it is. Mariah, just like Beyoncé, has total creative control over what she records, but it doesn't mean that the label has to agree with it. I think she should allow a little be more input from other sources, and allow some music from other songwriters; yes, songs where hasn't add one word to them. I think that for her next album Mariah shouldn't take long, but she should become a free agent, in that way she could release her music as she pleases. Nowadays if you're not selling albums, you're selling singles, and If you're not doing well at either, it doesn't make sense for a record company to invest in you. I’m sad to say this, but I can't wait for this era to be over. Mariah is looking desperate now, and I don't like it.

You're Mine videos (41,435)
by Lee from UK

I was really hoping to see more jungle in the videos for You're Mine. What was the point of going to a jungle in Puerto Rico to film this video when actually the exact same scene could have been recreated in a studio. It seems like a wasted opportunity to me, I feel this way about a lot of Mariah's videos lately. Still, at least this video is 100% better than H.A.T.E. U.
