Edward and Isaac (40,544)

Awww thanks Edward, that meant a lot coming from you boo. If we all know one thing, it's that Edward never lies. Lol. And you're exactly right, she poured her soul into CB. It came on the heels of one of the lowest most vulnerable points of her career, so like Licia I really connected with her on this one. Which is why I considered it the last real Mariah Carey album. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed everything that followed and she even gave me CB moments with FLAB, I Wish You Well, and Languishing. But with those album she had gotten her swag back and it seemed more about singing a certain way and making radio friendly hits. That's all fine, I get it, we all love her mid, full, and belting voice, but I just want her to leave her heart and soul on the floor with this next album and just do Mariah. Which brings me to Isaac: with this new album I just want some real heartfelt music, with great meaningful lyrics whether she's belting to the top of her lungs or whispering a sweet lullabies to dem babies. (She always mixes it up anyway.) I just want to feel her. I agree "The Art Of Letting Go" set the perfect tone for me, I hope she gives more raw heartfelt ballads on that level with a the perfect blend of stone grooves in the mix.

Don't Play That Song For Me mp3 (40,542)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
By the way, for those who might be interested in an mp3 or Mariah's version of "Don't Play That Song For Me", just shoot me an email at b_terius@yahoo.com. I can't believe Mariah didn't actually record this song in the studio and put it on her debut album or on Emotions. I guess since it was gospel, and they were selling her a pop artist, it didn't fit well in either one.

Lamb_O_Chop / about Charmbracelet (40,541)
by Edward from USA

Lamb_O_Chop, I completely agree with you. In no way were you being disrespectful or pushing your opinion on others. You were just defending Charmbracelet from your point of view without dismissing anybody else's opinion. I personally prefer Charmbracelet over Memoirs. I think that, even though Mariah mainly whispered on Charmbracelet, her soul was more connected to it than it was to Memoirs. Charmbracelet for Mariah was like the sequel to Butterfly, very personal. That's why "Lullaby" was a continuation to "The Roof". I think the problem was that on Buttefly Mariah sung in her mid range, but on Charmbracelet she went straight into a whisper mode that bothered many of us. Memoir was more playful, but disconnected at the same time.

Thanks for replying, I appreciate it. Glad you know and like it. I have the song, and enjoy it a lot. And I agree, I would love to hear all the cuts that didn't make the albums. Especially in her debut. Because 1990 was a great year. You know her demo called "Weakness of the body"? It's great. If you haven't heard it, please do. I too think that songs like "Dreamlover", "Music box", "Now that I know", "Everything fades away" and "Do you think of me" are all her best/most special tracks. They all are great. Id also like to know what you'd like or would want from this new album. I'd really just want good songs with nice lyrics. And would like to add another number one hit to her name. I have faith in her and believe that "The art of letting go" will be good, if not great.

Hey there Lamby! I absolutely adore "Do You Think Of Me". Are you kidding me? The vocals, the musical transitions, all the way up to the trumpets at the end. I consider "Do You Think of Me" "Everything Fades Away" younger equally beautiful sister. Could you imagine all the hidden treasures MC has from that era? Ugh. What I would give to hear them. I see great minds think alike and have similar great taste in MC's catalogue.

Hey, I found out from your messages that you like the song "Everything fades away". Which I like myself and have. But I wanted to know if you know or like the song "Do you think of me"? It's pretty good. Great lyrics and a great beat. Similar to "All in your mind". If you see this, please let me know. I'm curious to know what you think of it if you've heard it before.

Re: Will / Charmbracelet aka the masterpiece (40,536)

Loath it all you want chop. I will continue to praise the album and make a statement of my own opinion. When did I say you had to love the album? I just simply defended the album, because I feel it's been unfairly trashed. Why are you so bothered? You're the one that's upset that not everyone agrees with you. So why don't you just learn how to deal with the fact that some of us think it's one of her best albums regardless of your negative view on it, and I promise you'll be a lot happier.

Announcement (40,535)
by clueey23 from USA
| |
|
|
With MC being a "citizen of the world" what time are we gonna get this "pip" announcement? What could it be? Single title? Single snippet? Wouldn't it be awesome if she changed the album release date, moved it up instead of pushing it back. Shakira and Rihanna released a song today and it was yikes. I didn't care for it, at all. Has anyone seen the video clips of MC performing from NYE in London? I enjoyed it. Thoughts?

So I have been checking her Facebook page "likes" every now and then and I am happy to see it has been increasing almost on a daily basis. That's a good thing, right? I think in the last 2 months or less alone there has been an increase by a million! I am happy. Wasn't there supposed to be an announcement today? Was there any time specified?

I wanna know what love is? (40,531)
by Commodore from USA
| |
|
|
Ok lambs I need help with this one lol. So I work out at Planet fittness and believe it or not they play alot of Mariah stuff on their music service like Emotions, Fantasy, Heartbreaker, Shake It Off etc. The problem is they play a dance mix of" I wanna know what love is". I think it was never released or promoted. But this mix is her best to date. All the tv says when it comes on the track is called "I wanna know what love is remix". I checked wiki for what dance mixes were released but those are not listed. I've been looking for this song for like 3 months.

I don't like Charmbracelet, obviously from my post! Some people do. I wanted to say contrary to those saying they loved it that I loathed it. I'm actually allowed to not like it as it's just my opinion. Why don't you stop arguing with fans on this page for once and trying to control what is said? Stating things as being the truth when it's based on opinion is a bit silly. You should just accept by now that a) Not everyone has the same opinions on Mariah. b) People are allowed to express their free opinions on this message board. My advice is to really contemplate "I'm making a statement, of my own opinion!" Now I've calmed down.

How MC can score another #1 (40,529)
by B from USA
| |
|
|
It's straightforward, heartfelt and classy. Mariah pleads with her departed lover - "When you left I lost a part of me, ot's still so hard to believe" - and the song's gentle R&B roll is perfectly understated, built from a few piano chords and a slowed-down So So Def rhythm. It has a homebody quality, almost like an autumn song would. You can imagine a split-up couple singing it quietly, separately, as the world goes on around them. She's on a porch with tea, he's stuck in traffic when he finds Mariah on the radio. It even cleverly references that feel, with Mariah finding the Bobby Womack and Babyface songs on her radio just too tough to hear. There's no tired "I tried to 2-way you" retorts, no trash-technology love affair. "I was at the grocery store and this guy had the same ring tone as you, and I cried." No, there's a classic sensibility to the lyrics and sound of "We Belong Together" that makes for perfect and perfectly universal pop/R&B songwriting. In other words, it's the jam. And there's probably a happy ending, too: Mariah's triumphant octave shift finale makes the song's title an emphatic.

MOAIA (40,528)

I just have to defend this album because I think the failure was based on single choices. Obsessed was so auto tuned and not a fav despite it becoming a hit. (#7) But the follow up should have been Angels Cry or Standing O. With proper promotion, it would have done much better. Up Out My Face and HATEU were bad choices in my opinion. With saying that, had HATEU a great video it could have done better. I am so tired of Mariah's video theme: 99% naked always laying down in her videos. Bring back the story lines. A great video can make a song, but she isn't about great videos anymore. So sad.

How are you going to tell us to calm down, when you're the one that's going off. Sweetie, if you want to hate on Charmbracelet, be my guess. It won't change my love and opinion if it. And your description couldn't be any further from the truth darling. Just because you don't care for the album, doesn't mean you have to trash it. As a lamb you should be happy somebody loves it; instead of trying to convince us that it wasn't the stellar album it truly is. Smooches!

That's your opinion. "Charmbracelet" has not one trashy song on it. The album is great. And definitely better than Memoirs. "Memoirs" is the album that lacked Mariah's musical talent. There was no song that made the album. And is probably her worst. But this new one will be the Mariah Carey we all know and love to hear. "Beautiful" is definitely her song. And a good one at that. And I'm sure there will be other songs on the album that will be just as good. If not better.

Charmbracelet is a horrific album (40,525)
by Will from Australia
| |
|
|
In my opinion. Because it's all about opinion! It was basically thrown out there as quick as possible to move on from the mental breakdown and Glitter era and it sounds as such. I remember watching Mariah perform Boy on UK TV and feeling so sad that she had now turned out music like that instead of the amazing tunes of previous years, but to be honest that song was as bad as Loverboy from another album where I feel she lost her way musically. Sure there are some songs that are stellar on both albums, but far too many trashy songs with bar production and worse vocals. So glad she came back with TEOM, E=MC2 and MOAIA, three albums that have restored my faith in her. Just an opinion so calm down "darlings".

Charmbracelet was the last [...] Mariah Carey album straight up. Eveything afterwards was Mimi, and damn it I want my Mariah back on this new album. I will never understand why so many lambs write this album off. This album was more personal than Butterfly for me, the lyrics were deep, meaningful and poetic, she sung with so much emotion and caressed every song with sincerity, and the musicality was just brilliant. Many are missing out on a true gem, by descrediting that album.

I do like it! I love its fluffy-sexy sound, great vocals (esp. "I need your love right now babe" at the climax of the song) and the strings in the background - they are so marvelous. My question is, does anyone remember "My Love" with The Dream? I love MC's verse and the arrangements of her voice. It should've been her own song, The Dream's voice gimnastics do not give anything special to the song.

Charmbracelet for me personally was MC's comeback. Not that she went anywhere. But the album was the complete package. And the promotion was through the roof. She was all over the country and the world promoting that album. All over television promoting. But in America they always screw her with horrible single choices. Okay, we needed "Through the Rain" but they jacked the whole thing up by releasing "Boy" instead of "The One". "You Got Me" should've been a single. Period. Lack of radio support nailed the album to the floor. If you don't have radio on your side, you're screwed. I think the Charmbracelet tour was amazing though. So intimate and vocally amazing. The band intro was just one of my favorite elements of the tour. Not to mention MC was just so effortlessly amazing and sexy. But that was over a decade ago. But I do want her to incorporate songs like "Yours" in future concerts.

I'm surprised so many people like this album! The lack of production was a first for me as a Mariah fan, there's even an out of tune note at the end of I Only Wanted. Though I liked the concept of My Saving Grace the song just isn't very pretty which at that point I had come to expect of a Mariah ballad. I hated the use of computerized words (like boy) on the album. I thought they were distracting and juvenile. I did like Through The Rain and Bringing On The Heartbreak, and I loved the Charmbracelet tour, but the album is not my favorite. On the other hand I loved Memiors, I just thought it lacked some true ballads. For letting ago it seemed MC was really focused on instrumentation and vocal arrangements, but I'd love to see really stunning lyrics and a simple arrangement (mainly piano). I love Beautiful.

Did anyone notice that in 2013 there wasn't an African American artist to hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100? Seriously, unless they were a featured artist. TI, Rihanna, and Pharrell. Just a thought. It all comes down to radio and what they choose to play or what they are paid to play. I really hope MC can hit #1 on both the album and singles chart, now that I've noticed the trend of last year. Did #Beautiful peak at #2 on the Billboard r&b singles chart?
