I wasn't trying to be "unfair" or rude about Charmbracelet. I am very glad Mariah made that album, it's just not one I listen to often. IKWYW was never on any US release of Charmbracelet ("The Remixes" featured it) so as far as worldwide hits yes Charmbracelet delivered, but I was referring to the USA. TTR peaked at #81 on the main chart. The other singles never charted at all. I was disappointed with that fate but you are right in saying it was released at a significant time when people were not feeling Mariah. I remember radio talking about TTR when it was released and they were saying her career was done. Boy were they wrong! I just wanted to clarify. It seems everyone on this board is so sensitive when someone posts anything.

Re: Mimi era (40,517) by clueey23 from USA
During the "Emancipation of Mimi" era radio was also eating MC up. "It's Like That" with that Run DMC sample was loved at Hip-Hop and R&B stations. We all know that every single format was playing "We Belong Together" for months and then "Shake It Off" came right when Kanye released "Gold Digger". I thought "Shake It Off" was gonna replace "We Belong Together" and then I remember I was actually on this message board when "Don't Forget About Us" video premiered one November morning on MTV. "Say Somethin'" really didn't get the airplay it deserved but by that time MC had the best selling album of 2005. Also, "Fly Like a Bird" on Urban A/C was a nice treat. But notice MC had radio in her corner. Now we are just happy to have her songs on the radio sometimes. So not only did she promote the records on tv, she had radio as the most powerful tool in selling an album. Because if you notice radio stations have like 12 songs that they play each hour. If MC could become one of those 12 songs we should be good. Even though #Beautiful was a hit, it still didn't get the full out radio play that it needed from all the stations. Do you think if MC said "surprise" and released the single to radio and dropped the album on 2/14/14. How do you think it would do with the same promotion techniques from 2005? I just want IDJ to back her 100% again. Also line the pockets of these radio programmers like everyone else.

Charmbracelet (40,516) by Ryan from the Philippines
This boils down to one conclusion, we all have differences in terms of music tastes and preferences. Personally, I think CB was really a good and underrated album. The best lyrically and vocally in years IMO. I won't get tired of saying that this certain era has a special place in my heart since this is when I started loving her and her music. It was the first album I bought ever and at the first listen it made me even love her more. The only problem when CB was released, people were not ready to embrace someone who had an almost sinking career and Mimi was not cleared yet from all those issues that sorrounded her that time. I think it's also unfair to read someone wrote that CB didn't even have a single hit when a matter of fact, all those songs she released on that album became famous worldwide especially at this side of the world (Asia). TTR in fact became a singing contest staple and I am not just talking about Through The Rain or Boy (I Need You), remember I Know What You Want? It became a top 3 hit in the US. It's not like Busta or Flidmode was there that it became a hit, Rhyme's Make It Clap even failed to enter the top 40. And if I was to chose between CB and MOAIA, I'd chose the former without a doubt. Listening to 21 tracks off Memoirs that mostly sounded somewhat like rejects from her previous albums is too long and tiring. I usually skip many tracks on MOAIA to be honest.

The Emancipation era (40,515) by Rashidi Rahim Rick from Malaysia
Mariah and her management team should duplicate the strategy of promotion during the era of The Emancipation. In 2005, Mariah promoted ILT, WBT, SIO and DFAU on every major tv shows and award shows. Due to that vast promotion all those singles climbed the top charts in Billboard. It's not rocket science, just go out there and promote. That's all it takes to achieve successfull single and album.

I'm curious to know if anybody likes the song "Honey"? I do, it's really up tempo and hip hop. It has a great beat, and Mariah's voice sounds beautiful.

Charmbracelet (40,513) by Licia from USA
I love CB. Although I have been a fan since the very first album, CB was the first album that I really connected with. The whisper vocals don't bother me, but the words on most of the songs got me. I finally had an album that I could relate to on so many levels. I never had that before CB. We all have our reasons for liking it or loving it. Just because I love CB doesn't mean it's better than certain other albums and just because you don't like CB doesn't mean the album you love is better. It's all a matter of opinion.

Independent / Charmbracelet / Memoirs (40,512) by 123 from USA
I'm sorry, but going independent is a horrible idea. Mariah is a big name and needs a machine behind her who will properly promote her. So many big artists have gone the independent route only to fail miserably. The very least is a distribution deal with a major labor. The only reason why her last couple albums didn't work is because she failed to promote them herself. There was only one performance of Obsessed and one of that horrid follow up single in the US, her main market. After E=MC2 was released, she disappeared until the summer time and by then everyone lost interest. If I Stay In Love wouldn't have been the second single, she would have had a smash album again. Charmbracelet had some of her best and personal writing to date but was missing the crucial ingredient: vocals. She whispered me to sleep. Had she sang like she was Mariah and not you know who, it would have had a change. You Got Me and Clown were missed single opportunities. Memoirs was a lot more interesting and had better melodies. Angels Cry, It's A Wrap, and Betcha Gon Know were screaming singles. Betcha was completely different than anything she has ever done. My point is, if she doesn't chose the right single and promote like she used to, even an album full of great songs will go nowhere. I want her to just drop the album ala Beyoncé and promote the heck out of it. It had been years that an album dropped and I had no idea what it sounded like.

"Charmbracelet" is still a great album. But yes, "Daydream" is the best. It's my favorite too. I personally think that "Fantasy" is Mariah's number one song. Of all time. Her best. "Underneath the stars", "One sweet day", "Always be my baby", "Melt away", "Forever". And the unreleased track "Slipping away". In which I have. Are all amazing. And "Slipping away" is one of the few that I play on my stereo. But I'm just excited for this new album. I know it's going to be good. Mariah had said in an interview that she added four more songs on the album. Could it be a 14 track album? Or more? Who knows, but the first track sounds interesting.

Album sales (40,510) by B from USA
The best selling album of 2012 was JT's 20/20 which sold two million copies. #Beautiful the lead single (the only offical single) from her new album went Platinum. The album's second single will be released on Valentine's Day 2/14 with the album following in the spring. MC has never really had a flop. Glitter went Gold, Charmbracelet went Platinum, amd Memoirs went Gold.

Another shout out to Daydream (40,508) by Stacey from USA
As I was running errands today, ABMB played on the radio. Such a great song. I turned up the volume and rocked out a bit in my car. I'm sure passer-byes thought I was crazy, but who cares? It's Mariah, lol. On a side note, Charmbraceley is probably my least favorite album down there with Memoirs. Maybe it's the vocals. Who knows? I just don't connect with the album like I do others. That being said, I am grateful she made the album. It set up the great album TEOM. It also gave me great songs like Irresistible, I Only Wanted, TTR, The One. So even if the album doesn't connect with me, I can always find a few songs to jam to. Same goes with Memoirs. I love Obsessed and Angels Cry.

Charmbracelet (40,507) by Isaac from USA
Cool, glad that other lambs agree that "Charmbracelet" is a good album. And yes, "Yours" is a nice song. It's in my top five favorites. But I'd really like Mariah to record another song like "Get your number". That is one of my favorite tracks with JD. Him and Mariah make great music together. He's awesome. I was curious to know does anyone like the song "Sweetheart"? To me that's a great track too. As well as "I still believe".

Charmbracelet (40,506) by Peaceful Aquarian from United States
I think Charmbracelet was a very good album. One of my favorites from her. I didn't care for the single choices, but Yours, My Saving Grace, Irresistible, and BOTH cover are some of my all-time favorites from her.

Blake (40,505) by Lamb_O_Chop from Australia
Lets not do "Charmbraclet" darling. That album was devine my dear, simply devine. Through The Rain, You Got Me, I Only Wanted, Clown, Saving Grace, Had Your Chance, Bringing On The Hearbreak, Subtle Inviattion. This is easily one of her best albums on a musical level, the whispery vocals were heavenly, and her belts where gorgeous and crystal clear. The tryzation has reached the max, you all need to [...] it.

Seriously? (40,504) by Blake from USA
I completely disagree. There are only a couple songs on Charmbracelet I like: My Saving Grace, Subtle Invitation and I only Wanted. Boy I Need You is horrible and The One, Clown and Yours are too whispery voiced. If Jive would have released the duet of Yours with J.T. I would have like it a lot more, but MOAIA is a much stronger album that Charmbracelet. Songwriting is much stronger and I feel like the through the rain era was very woe is me and feel sorry about me because of my breakdown. There wasn't a single hit song off Charmbracelet. I guess it goes to show how the lambily has different favorites across the board. But it also shows how Charmbracelet sold over a million copies in the US and Memoirs has a hit song and only sold 500,000 copies. Popularity has gone down hill for MC unfortunately.

Anastascia and Mariah (40,502) by Isaac from USA
How could "Charmbracelet" be your least favorite album? It's one of her best. There are so many great songs on the album. And it sure beats "Memoirs". "The one", "Yours", "You got me", "I only wanted", "My saving grace" all beat any song on "Memoirs". To me the only good songs on the album are "Hate u", "Candy bling", "Inseparable", "Standing o" and "The impossible". Though "Angels cry" is pretty good. But still, the "Charmbracelet" album is way better. And hopefully "The art of letting go" is even better. "Beautiful" is an amazing track. Though I wished it was longer. My only problem I have with Mariah is that she features other artists in her songs. She should just record my herself. But the track with R Kelly should be interesting.

Lamb from USA / recent posted video (40,501) by Edward from USA

Lamb, I agree that the video is mostly live, but the part where she sings "the way" at the end of Hero is clearly lipped. It sounds exactly the same as the original recording from Music Box. She sounded great that night, but let's not fool ourselves either. I don't blame her though, since she was in pain and still pulled it through. I want to remind some of you about what greatness is, this is a completely live performance of Mariah, where she slays "Don't Play That Song", I hope the webmaster posts it.

Anastacia and Mariah (40,500) by Martyn from England, UK
I was just sat at home having a late 90s early 2000s night with my boyfriend when we rediscovered Anastacia. I decided to Google her to see if she'd ever said anything nice about Mariah. Turns out that Mariah is a fan of her music and they got on really well when they met ("What More Can I Give" - sang on stage together with MJ etc.). Then it transpired that there were plans for them to do a duet, and there's even a quote from Anastacia saying Mariah was up for it. I believe this was shortly after Glitter. Does anybody know what happened with this? Has Mariah ever said anything about it?

No label (40,498) by David from Australia
I'm hoping she might go independent like Macklemore and have no label telling her what to do with her music. No one telling her the type of song she should record or release, or the type of song that they think fits an album. That way she'd be in control with no one telling her that a certain style or type of song doesn't suit her. Of course she would have people giving her advice, but she would be able to make the final decision.

Nicki, Ebony (40,496) by clueey23 from USA
I totally agree. Remember "MonarC Records"? I think after that it would come down to a distribution deal. I think it may be something MC and Nick would joint venture for their own distribution company. I love the Ebony article.

Mariah needs to fire her label (40,495) by nikki from usa
For real. I can see it's nice to have an "advance" and a support system. Just to get that, you have to compromise a lot of your artistic integrity for commercial appeal. But, if your label won't promote you, chooses lousy singles costing you album sales, and you have to pay your advance back anyway; what's the point of having a label? If she doesn't go out on her own, than she should have her own label. No longer would she have to adhere to what anyone thinks is the "Mariah Carey" brand. She could try new things and branch out. She once spent $3 million on a music video which probably cost more than the making of the album. If she were to drop an LP on her own, she'd earn 2-3x as much. That would also open up a lot of doors to other possible promotions her current label might limit her to. I nearly fell on the floor when MC said she wanted to release Migrate, but her label didn't think it sounded "Mariah". Even her die hard vocal-balladeer fans were all over that track like shit on Velcro. Then, releasing "Know" to follow up "Obsessed"? "Standing O" or "Just Friends" would've been better choices. Mariah knows her fans, her label doesn't. C'mon woman. You write, produce, sing, direct, promote on your own already. You might as well own/release too.

Haha Edward, oh yes I did, lol (40,494) by Stacey from USA
It's fun to read all different views on Daydream. It's Mariah at her best, sheer perfection. It offers all Mariah fans that song they love. ABMB was the first remix I heard that introduced me to this whole other world of songs (i.e. remixes). At that point, I had not heard the Dreamlover remixes.
