Memoirs (41,328) by J from USA Screw what anybody says, Memoirs was underrated. That album was solid from start to finish. As I got older I realized E=MC2 was a weak follow up to TEOM, Memoirs was a step in the right direction after E=MC2. Sadly, the promo was horrible as was the single choices after Obsessed and the videos. HATE U anybody? Lol. That song could had been massive. Mariah's personality (41,327) by J from USA Nobody is bashing Mariah at all. But Mariah has never acted this way before. I have seen so many articles on her Breakfast Club interview and everyone keeps writing how she seemed "loopy, drunk, out of it or dazed". Honestly it's not a good look. Plus I'm not sure if anybody noticed but she had her eyes closed for much of the interview, mind you she was wearing sunglasses. Even after she divorced Tommy, and was able to be "herself" she never acted this way. Marah was funny, well spoken, confident and never rambled on or had this holier than thou attitude. Mariah in interviews (41,325) by Ben from United States I definitely agree with one of the previous comments about the way that Sony tried to make Mariah "respectable" and to tone down her blackness. Thoughts (41,323) by B from USA I'm glad she decided to change the title. You're Mine (Eternal) is the perfect follow up to #Beautiful. You're Mine is the best ballad she's released since 2005. Re. Carlos, Mariah's ways (41,322) by Joe from United Kingdom Even though some of your post was cut out I could gather what you were trying to say, I think. I totally agree with what you said about Mariah's odd behavour sometimes. I also believe alot of it is to do with insecurity. I'm no shrink but with Mariah I sometimes try to look beneath the surface of what she presents herself to be, underneath the beautiful diva character I feel like she's not comfortable in her own skin unless she's able to present herself in exactly the way she likes only showing herself from her good side, lighting and her personality. It seems the older she gets the more she constantly thinks this way to the point where she seems like her mind is some place else. I honestly think Mariah is amazing no matter what she looks like or how she acts because her music is what made me like her to begin with. I actually don't mind Mariah being abit crazy it's just her being funny some of the time but I can understand how it comes across to the public as an over the top diva. This is the wish all her die hards have been waiting for. I absolutely love all the records they created together and feel they produced her best work in my opinion. This is based off the recent track listing that's been circulating the web lately. Reading Mariah interviews, culturally perhaps? (41,319) by Geronimo from USA There is a lot of conversation on this board about Mariah's demeanor during interviews. I am beginning to wonder if the reason that some people on this board are finding her off-putting lately has to do with cultural expectations. In the 90s her persona in interviews reminded me of the way one acts while under pressure to appear a particular way for a broad audience. News anchors in major markets, game-show hosts, presidential hopefuls, have this in common. (Very generally speaking.) If a person of color wants success in the "mainstream" they have to avoid offending some "white" sensibilities, and people of color learn to become "acceptable" (or strategically and stereotypically "unacceptable"). Teenage Mariah was thrown into that game and has been slowly working it out. For me, her professional image used to seem strategically as close as possible to "white" or pleasantly-exotic yet "universal". Now she seems to have decided how she wants relate to all of that. As a 30 something year old Black American man, I think she is funny yet mature on serious shows and laid-back, silly and hilarious in other venues. She knows show business is a joke and there is really nothing but her own family and friends to take seriously. She reminds me of some worldly, experienced, black women of means Mariah's age and older that I know and love them because their nonchalant humor and irreverent way of dismissing superficiality with more superficiality is a breath of fresh air. They are not out of touch at all but simply not interested in playing "the game" on the game's own terms anymore. For many reasons (some of which I think have to do with both age and culture) I do not think that translates well for people who thought the PR version of Mariah back in the day was a real kind of American woman of color. I am Carly from USA Mine top five likes: 1) I love the way she is dressing, simple black dresses and colors illustrates how naturally beautiful she is. 2) I love the new song style and her voice on it. 3) I think the amount of promo is amazing. 4) I enjoy her sharing little highlights of life with Dem Babies. 5) I actually enjoy hearing about Nick but why not show gratitude for having a guy that loves you or just say straight up that you are sad because you miss him. Top five dislikes: 1) The much discussed bland beauty shots, get moving M the video was like a jet that never took off, because it seemed to self conscious. 2) The lack of a no person on her team. 3) Excess drinking, replace the bubbly with coffee, therapy, exercise? 4) Not answering questions, if you don't like the question say it. 4) Over the top diva antics. 5) Lack of faith, not expressing her gratitude. Not bashing (41,315) by Mara from United States I don't know why people on here think any constructive criticism is bashing Mariah. This is part of the problem. MC has a lot of people who just agree with her. I am only concerned for her. I have been a fan of Mariah's since 1990 when I was 14. I looked up to her. I know in this day she can't have that same success she had in the 90's, but I would love to see her have respect and not be a joke either. You're Mine is a great song and has the ability to resonate with today's market. It has a great hook. I appreciate that she is showcasing her voice and not whispering. But she just seems uncomfortable in interviews anymore and goes off track when asked questions. She has the legend stature that she could give advice to any other female singers out there. She has nothing to side glance about. She is Mariah freaking Carey, the one they all aim to be like. The madness (41,312) by Gerald from USA by the way of NYC I been reading a lot of the messages from the fans since the release of You're Mine (Eternal) and I see everyone's point whether it be good and or bad. But to MC's credit at least we have something to work with rather then playing the guessing game. I appreciate the new single and the video serves a purpose as well. We have to remember times in music business have changed since MC first came on the scene and many critics doubters gave her six months tops so for her to still be here now is certainly a blessing and we should enjoy it while we still have it. Maybe that's what happens when someone has had too much exposure to fame and superstardom (see Michael Jackson, Madonna). She's lost touch with reality and most importantly - her fans. Watching her in the interviews make me cringe because she does come off as narcissistic and rude. Rambling on about things that are off topic and not looking at people in the eye when they're addressing you. Interrupting people when they haven't finished speaking. Not embracing new female artist (41,308) by Lamb_O_Chop from Australia Okay I'm gonna have to say that's not true. Mariah has praised and shown love for Beyonce, Pink, Kelly Clarkson, Jasmine Sullivan, Kelly Rowland, Jordin Sparks and yes even Nicki. I just think she has an issue with artists that aren't original or is the "poor man's version" of another artist. In all fairness maybe she truly isn't impressed with the fact that Ariana and her label purposely tried to steal her sound and market her as the new Mariah. I'm not saying she should be nasty by any means, but she also doesn't have to be fake and act as if she's impressed or a fan of someone she's not really a fan of or respect as an artist IMO. I didn't really see the shade, like really can someone quote exactly what she said that was "shady or mean spirited"? Did she say it in the other interview? Maybe I missed it, because what she said on the Breakfast Club didn't exhibit shade to me. Also keep in mind she actually has a life that evolves her children and working diligently in the studio, so it's very likely she doesn't keep up with what's going on with everybody else. Mariah is one artist that people [...] to hate. [...] she says is put under scrutiny, over analyzed, taken out of context, criticized, belittled, is condescended to or been made fun of. She is now in [...] control of what she speaks. The reporters and interviewers she only sees as her medium. Her "way" for expression. She doesn't allow being cornered anymore. She just digresses, dances around the subject, and then embarks on some random, distracting tangent of her choice. The reason it seems incoherent or detached is because, as I mentioned before, [...] Come one, we all know that cool or funny person that, after a few drinks may be a bit over the top, full of themselves, though they may be a great person. [...] All her other antics (divanisms) are only a smoke screen to dealing with her insecurities; talking about bad lighting, adjusting in her chair strategically hiding what "she thinks" is her fat, nervously twitching her hair (but masking it behind diva antics), wearing her glasses [...] a studio, hiding behind the radio host for picture time. These are all just manifestations of her insecurities and her attempt to hide them "in a way that no body can tell (supposedly)" because the just brush them off as, "oh, diva lady". We have to think though, can you imagine having the best voice in the history of recorded music, where she, at one point, could literally do whatever she wanted with her voice [...], while now, that is no longer the case (though, even with whatever damage her larynx has endured, she can still out sing even if only in the studio 95% of the other artists out there). It didn't matter what was on the video, who was dancing on stage or what the props were. When she was belting a-la Vision Of Love, Love Takes Time, Forever, Dreamlover [...] cared what was going on around her. They just wanted to [...]. We know she can't dance, she's a bit awkward in front of the camera and her acting skills are still in question. [...] She has too much compensation to undertake in an effort to achieve the same level of interest we showered her with when her voice was at its peak (Daydream). Unfortunately, that is [...] going to happen. Her voice has set the bar to unattainable levels. That being said, even though she's always acting fluffy, effervescent, happy-go-lucky and bubbly. I can assure you that in her core, this inevitable and continually unraveling truth concerns her within. She, like most of us, is just not dealing with her realities correctly. Creativity (41,305) by Matthew from USA Remember that Mimi is very controlling. Even with the videos. She hired this Indrina girl to direct it, and then I'm sure she started dictating shots and editing out things she didn't like and even Mimi calls it a "co-directorial" effort, which pretty much means she hired the girl and then proceeded to direct the video herself anyway. I think that's why some ideas for the video don't seem to be developed. She's like that with her songs too. No one sends Mariah songs because they know that she will insist on changing something so she can get writing credit. When they asked her to do the Disney song, she had to "re-touch" it before she would agree to do it. It's the same with production. JD has said many times how it's always a struggle because Mariah keeps pushing for more urban sounds when he sometimes wants her to go with more ballads. So what does this all mean? Well it's good and bad. The good is that whenever we get something from MC, we can be sure it's 90-100% her. The bad is that it is unlikely things will change because ideas from the outside won't get it in if you insist on controlling everything. So it's a balancing act. On the one hand, we don't want her to become a Rihanna, who pretty much just shows up in the studio when it's time to record. On the other hand, she needs to learn to ease up and let some other people's ideas blossom so the videos and songs don't all sound the same. (Friday 14 February 2014; 17:56)

Remixes (41,304) by Lyric from USA The remixes are pretty bad. I think if she's going to do EDM remixes she should reach out to some of the better producers (Calvin Harris, Zedd, etc). Mariah is stuck in her ways (41,303) by Lyric from USA I'm not sure what people are expecting here. Mariah has been who she is for 40+ years. Even she claims the person she was during the early "Mary Poppins" days, wasn't her true personality. If people are expected a personality change at this stage in her life, you probably won't get it. I don't always like what she says and I think she was pretentious in The Breakfast Club interview. But I never expect her to be down to earth because she hasn't been in years. Perhaps people are to reliant on who she is as opposed to focusing on the music. At the end of the day, that's all she owes us. Not a personality fitting to our standards.
