Stacey / Jermaine Dupri managing Mariah (39,385) by John from USA Stacey, when I say "evergreen", I'm talking about songs that the general public will always remember. Of course, as fans, we know she has endless hits, and I too am never satisfied with Mariah in concert because she always leaves out at least one or two favorites of mine. The songs that I mentioned were the ones that I believe will always be remembered and listened to by the general non-lamb public (AIWFCIY, Hero, WBT, ABMB, Without You, Fantasy, possibly Dreamlover). As far as JD managing Mariah, I am cautiously optimistic. I remember a few years ago right after TEOM came out, he said he had to tell Mariah not to whisper and use her full voice on one of the TEOM singles (forget which one). I generally do like his work with Mariah and I think he genuinely admires and respects her, and wants her to succeed. I'm nervous as hell for this next era. I know I'll love the music (I always do, except for the original version of Triumphant), but I would love another #1 or even top 5 single and #1 album. Evergreen/signature song (39,383) by Jay from USA I am in agreement that AIWFCIY will forever be her "signature song" since it's the one that will be listened to the most years to come (as it's already been said on this message board). It's really the only song that people have covered over the years and because of it will bring her recognition. Hero, Always Be My Baby, Fantasy, WBT, OSD, are all songs that will be remembered but not necessarily "the song" the way people associate a song with a singer. I think the problem with MC is that she has so many types of songs, so many "eras". There's so many people that think her career started with TEOM. I was listening to a morning show the other day and a caller named Mariah was asked if she was named after the singer. The said no, that she came before the "other Mariah". They asked her what year she was born and it was in the late 90's. the radio hosts laughed and schooled her, telling her Mariah has been around for over 20 years. I think it's only the lambs that understand that the Mariah from the 90's is the same Mariah that infuses hip hop in her music now. (Thursday 3 October 2013; 3:50)

AIWFCIY vs Whitney's IWALY and Celine's MHWGO (39,381) by Edward from USA It's a fact that "I Will Always Love You" is Whitney's signature song, and "My Heart Will Go On" is Celine's, but it's not less of a fact that "All I Want For Christmas Is You" is definitely Mariah's, and unlike the other two, "AIWFCIY" will still be listened to by future generations to come two hundred years from now. Mariah Carey is the only diva who reigns for at least a month once a year, not Whitney or Celine. Two hundred years from now, people most likely won't talk about Mariah, Whitney or Celine, but they will sure hear the voice behind that Christmas song, and for those who, out of curiosity, want to find out the story about voice, they'll have the internet to find out. Mariah's evergreens (39,380) by Stacey from USA Um, MC has more evergreens than she knows what to do with, lol. Just look at her concert set lists over the past 10-15 years. Signature song / "evergreens" / new era (39,379) by John from USA I was reading another Mariah forum where someone claimed that Mariah has only one "evergreen" (song that will always be remembered) and that it was "All I Want for Christmas". They said Madonna has "Like a Virgin", "Like a Prayer" and "Vogue". I agree that those are Madonna's evergreens, but I think Mariah has "Hero", "Without You" (even though it's not her song), and "We Belong Together", in addition to AIWFCIY. I would also argue that "Always Be My Baby" is an evergreen here in the US, as I hear that on the radio quite a bit. Possibly even "Fantasy" and/or "Dreamlover", but that's pushing it maybe lol. Anyway, I have a good feeling about this new era, and I actually hope she does not include Beautiful on the album. I want an entirely fresh start. Given the fact that Christmas will naturally get her talked about, the fact that it's been 4 years since a studio album, and that Mariah herself seems to have worked really hard on this album (and will be more abt to actually promote it, unlike MOAIA or E=MC2 after TMB), I just feel good going into this era. Momentum/Promotion (39,378) by Joe from United Kingdom I am definitely looking forward to Mariah's new album, wether it be hip hop infused tracks or not, just not way to much and she does'nt end up being a feature on her own songs. One thing that has been on my mind though is the fact that I can't help but feel like this album/era has lost quite a lot of momentum. How many times have we heard the new era begins on so and so then it gets off to a start and then stops again? I could understand with Triumphant since that single wasn't received so well, but in the case of #Beautiful it was one of her most successful singles in a long while. Maybe that was her window of opportunity if she promoted the song it could of gone top 10 and then led into a number 1 album. It is better for her to take her time rather then rush the album and it not be her best. I'd rather have a non successful album that is of amazing quality then well you know. I think she still wants success so since were gonna get a Christmas era before anything else, she should really use that time to remind people about the album. Re: Nikki (39,375) by harudosg from Singapore I didn't say she will follow the trend of those new singers, what I was pointing out is that she has to wait untill these ladies will release their album so she will have an idea where this trend is leading to. Sounds like all was a trashy song, so she postponed it as the team don't want to compete with those garbage. Once the Christmas holiday season starts, trust me she will be on every TV screens again, without sling and slimmer again. Mary J. New album / signature song (39,374) by 123 from USA I agree with everything you said Nikki regarding the new album. This is their second go around re-working the album. Even though she got injured, I believe the time off is going to benefit the album because she was rushing to get it done and wasn't promoting Beautiful since she was still in the studio. Had the album been done when she released Beautiful and promoted it properly, I believe it would have went to number one. Now I also agree with Rashidi, We Belong Together is Mariah's signature song. That will be the song she is remembered by. I remember reading Rolling Stone's review on Glitter stating that Whitney has I Will Always Love You, Celine has My Heart Will Go On, but Mariah still did not have her signature song. They indicated that would it be funny if even after all the success, she might one day release such a song. Well, that day came. (Wednesday 2 October 2013; 6:12)

Matt Summers / #Beautiful (39,373) by Edward from USA Matt, I made a comment stating that I wouldn't be surprised if she pulled #Beautiful out of the new album. I said that because, even though #Beautiful was moderately successful and went platinum, it also brought with it lots of bad press with the lip-syncing and bad performances, and to make matters worse she gets a dislocated shoulder while desperately filming a video for a song that was already dying for lack of proper promotion. As I had stated before to Stephen, Mariah is very superstitious, and based on that, maybe, just maybe, she might decide not to include it in the album. But that's just my opinion. Whitney, Celine, Mariah have so many songs that could be but Mariah I'm going with, there's so many 'Emotions, Vision Of Love, Without You, Hero. She stopped the album, because Triumphant flopped hard and Island wasn't all that thrilled with it or the album and wasn't promoting her at all. '#Beautiful was something she came up fast to not let AI promo slip through her fingers. The way people took at it, I think was a surprise to her and her team and Island. They knew the first batch of music wasn't good. She went back to the paper and got back into things and didn't wanna stop untill she took her time. I think this new era is do or die. This will be her last album on the old contract. If it flops hard, I don't see any label throwing a whole lot her way even if she is Mariah Carey, not when they have teeny bopper singers who are young and fan base have throw away money to spend. Same ol' same from Mrs MCC (39,369) by Joyce from USA I think that hip hop, rap thug-ish sound was cute for the last ummm, 15 years but it does get old. I think that combined with weaker vocal abilities contributes the decline of her appeal. Keep in mind she invented the pop star rapper combo in 1995 with ODB remix of “Fantasy”. It was hot, innovative and definitive of her new direction. It’s just old now. It's time for her to work that same innovative magic with something new. I think the fear of trying something new came about after Glitter. Ever since “We Belong Together” every song sounds like a variation and almost all of them have that “we belong together” last note extended till the song fades out. The vocals sound tired but only because they are out of shape and not frequently used as earlier in her career. I guarantee, if she gets those chords back in shape with daily exercise and vocal muscle yoga and do a liver cleanse to allow the liver to increase energy production for the body, she will sound like she used too. If the album has an original release date of July then why would she go back to studios for another collabos again? Her team and I waited for the new music to came out (Katy, Gaga, Miley, Brit, Ariana) first so they would examine where the trend is leading to, or maybe they want to wait untill the crazy hype is over so Mimi's album won't clash with those trash. Mariah will use the Christmas season to put the attention on her and start promoting the new album. Her rant against Island management is legit. She really is asking for support since LA Reid is not with her anymore. Mariah wants this comeback to be real, and her ego will not accept a flop on her new album based on how she described this new album as "hard work". (Tuesday 1 October 2013; 12:31)

Steve / Babydoll (39,365) by Edward from USA Steve, that's exactly what I meant, a hip hop track doesn't have to include a rapper, Shake It Off was Mariah only. Most fans think that everytime Mariah is in the studio with a rapper it is because the rapper will be on the record. I like when she brings in rappers, but mostly for the non album version like Obsess. The thing is that some rappers don't bring anything to the song. I am happy she's working with Nas, he put a nice touch to the TGIFY remix, and his rapping is mellow enough to blend with a ballad. (Tuesday 1 October 2013; 4:21)

New album discussion (39,364) by 123 from USA "Too many rappers and too much hip hop." Do we really think she will release an album full of hip hop? Look at her past albums. There was no hip hop on Memoirs, it was contemporary r&b. She has learned from the weak reception to Triumphant that we want her to sing regardless of the genre she chooses and not fade into the background. The album was never released and instead re-worked. Did people forget that Nick said she was looking at her first two albums for inspiration? Also, he does not run her career and her family (Nick is her husband and the father of her children) and is not to blame. There are many stars who have successful careers with a family, so why can't she be allowed to have a life? Also, you may get a dance remix but she will not be following the already dying EDM trend. "Having to follow trends is not what's fun about making music" - Mariah. Was anyone listening to the clips of music played on the Barbara Walters special? It will be retro/jazz inspired ballads and probably some hip hop uptempos. The TEOM album was like that as well however, only the contemporary r&b/hip hop inspired tracks were released as singles when the album cuts were actually late 70's soul, which is Mariah's true calling. EMC2 was merely an album filled with TEOM singles (contemporary r&b hip hop singles). It will come out when her hand is healed because you know she will not be photographed with a sling while promoting the new era. (Tuesday 1 October 2013; 3:48)

People are always expecting so much from their favorite artists and don't even realize they are the ones hyping it up for themselves and then end up disappointed. Mariah loves hip-hop and R&B, it's not like she's gonna release a country album at this point. Yeah sure I'd love to be surprised and listen to exciting new things she'd be willing to try, but we should remember that Mariah is her own person and makes music she wants to make. It's OK if some people like her old sound (90 to 95) better, but as a reminder it's been almost 20 years she hasn't been the pop/ballad Mariah we all knew and loved so maybe we can give it a rest and just enjoy that she's still here and judge the album when it actyally comes out. Edward / new album and era (39,361) by John from USA I agree with everything you said, Edward. She really needs to bring it. This is do or die for career, and luckily, I think Mariah herself knows it. E=MC2 is one of my favorites, but I agree it sounds like a collection of singles and doesn't flow very well. TEOM (even though I find it slightly overrated) and even MOAIA flow better (even if MOAIA didn't have as many "singles" on it). I don't know why, but for some reason, I have a very good feeling about this upcoming era. I'm glad she's pushed back The Art Of Letting Go so Katy, Gaga, and Britney can do their thing for a bit. Plus, now with AI out of the way and her arm almost better, she has a clean slate and can really promote this next album. Based on how she's described the album and the people she's working with, I sense we may be lucky enough and get a combo of Daydream/TEOM. Which would basically give the world an eargasm. Reinvention (39,360) by George Golden from UK Mariah should get real and leave the past behind. All these collabos are just getting tired. She needs to reinvent herself. How about a ballad and dance record combo? A song that start slow and then picks up then goes back slow and runs for 10 minutes? That would be amazing. I am afraid to say this new album won't bring anything new from all indications. She just won't let the hip hop thing go. I am happy for Mariah now that she is a mum, but sorry guys, I have to say Nick Cannon is really bringing her down. Since they hooked up, everything has been so cheesy and unserious. He is putting an album out soon. Lord help us. And don't get me started on his new single. Please Mariah, go back to what made you a star in the first place.
