Mariah and Walter together again (39,313)
by Benedick Castillo from Philippines
| |
|
|
I am huge fan of the collaboration. Songs like My All, Whenever You Call, When I Saw You and Hero, who was not moved by these ones? I mean, I would love to hear Mariah to work with Walter again. They made best music and can do more. It would be great to see them work together again.

I've always wondered if MC and Ben Marguiles could ever reconcile and work with each other again? They are also a magic duo with magical brilliant musical results as we saw on MC's debut album. Ben Marguiles also was in a relationship with MC also.

Stephen / #Beautiful video (39,310)
by Edward from USA

Stephen, Mariah is very superstitious, and since she had an accident while filming the Jeezy remix of #Beautiful, I can almost assure you that that video won't ever see the light of day. It is like Glitter, it is pretty evident that Mariah acts as if that album or movie never existed. I wouldn't be surprised if she doesn't include #Beautiful in the new album. Yes it went platinum, but many negative speculations about lipping came to the surface, and I think she wants to detach from the Triumphant and #Beautiful failed attempts at starting a new era.

#Beautiful (39,309)

I think it's time for Mariah to move on to another single and cancel the release of the Jeezy Remix video. The dance throwback remix should also fall as an album track only. There had been too many version of #Beautiful out there and I think it's too much to release another one. Just my two cents.

Is this topic dead and buried or can I just add my two cents? Lol. I just watched Kelly's interview with Wendy Williams talking about the tweet and how she wouldn't name the "singer" she was dissing. Kelly is a coward, how is she gonna sit there and tell the cameras that she's not going to name them because "it was a moment between her and the TV screen". Then why did you feel the need to tweet about it, yet pull back when people started naming names? Say what you really want to say or say nothing at all.

It's been 2 months now, we'll probably never see that one. Just like the resung dance remix she teased 2 months ago, where the heck is it? It sounded fantastic, I want it now!

Mariah Carey - Legacy Edition (39,305)
by Bill from the UK
| |
|
|
Does anyone remember a few years back, Sony were planning to release the "Legacy" edition of Mariah's debut album? It got so far as to have release dates and mentions in the press. I wonder why that project was shelved, and if it will reappear in 2015 for the album's 25th anniversary? That would be great. What would everybody want to see on the album? Ideally, I'd love for the original album to be entirely remastered up to today's standards, and for it to include Mariah's demo tape, as well as the original Vision Of Love, which has always intrigued me (described as "a 50s sort of shuffle"). An additional DVD of some performances from that time (America the Beautiful, Arsenio Hall etc.) would also go down a treat. I hope it wasn't just going to be the album re-issued with a gold border on the sleeve lol.

I never even noticed that before, although I would like to double check this information by looking at the booklet of the actual cd. Still, quite impressive indeed. I love Nile Rodgers's sound and he is one kind of a musician, no doubt. And I would definitely support this type of sound coming from Mariah as well. On another note (or, should I say diva), apart from brilliant grooves like "Tenderness" from Diana Ross's 1980 "Diana" album, the other half of Chic was involved in her "Swept Away" album in a great track called "Telephone". Really worth checking out.

Yes Billy, I`m sure. If you go to Wikipedia for Mariah's debut album, it writes that among the personnel who worked is Nile Rodgers who played the guitars. Of course there were other guitarists too (Jimmy Rip, David Williams etc.), but the fact that he, a lengedary producer, even touched and involved in that project, is fantastic for me.I don't know but when I saw his name involving I was thrilled. And on other web-pages which refer to all his collaborations per year, through the decades it writes ''1990 [...]".

Who cares, really? (39,301)
by Stacey from USA
| |
|

Who cares what people discuss? As long as each person is being respectful to other viewpoints, then it doesn't bother me. If the current topic bugs you, make a conscious choice to ignore it. The other alternative is to start a new topic. Honestly, I don't understand why some let the little things bother them. Chill. There will be plenty of drama when the new album drops, lol.

How Mariah's voice has changed, same topic, but... (39,300)

We have talked about Mariah's voice deterioration so many times that I don't even want to say anything about it anymore, but I have noticed that most of those who have expressed their opinions lately are new faces here, I mean new posters. So, it doesn't really bother me. I have coming to this messageboard for 15 years, and sometimes we run out of topics.

Same old, same old (39,299)

Thank God that we actually have some people here who like me are abit bored/tired with the what happened to Mariah's voice topic. No offence to those who like to talk about it and I understand that we may be running out of things to talk about since there's no new Mariah music in sight. But it's abit stale now asking the same question all the time is only gonna get you the exact same answer which ever way it's worded her voice changed she doesn't sound the same that's it.

The voice debate (39,296)
by Gerald from USA by the way of NYC
| |
|
|
At this point the voice topic is like beating a dead horse. We all know Mariah's voice is not the same from the Music Box era, but that doesn't take away from the fact she is still regarded as one of the greatest singers of all time. Do some of her more recent showings make me disappointed? Yes they do, but I know we all have missteps, but MC's happen to be public because of the career she has. I have faith that Mariah will deliver this upcoming era, because so many have doubts, including some of her trusted and loving fans.

[...] (39,295)
by Panos from Greece

Last but not least, a collaboration with Walter Affanasieff and Babyface to create some quality pop-rnb ballads and mid-tempos would perfectionate her album as many of you all these months say. These three producers along with the current ones would make this album unique from the first to the last track and would keep and shocase her music identity. I think my expectations are not so vain, but in the end it`s always her who decides and I think this time she will come with killer tracks.

I am sure great vocals are on the way and I'm more than ok with the genres that we are all speculating to appear on the new album, but I would also like something fresh from her and unexpected yet classy. I mean I would die to see her collaborate with Nile Rodgers and create a disco ala Chic sound, flavored one or two songs in new album with those classy violins and magic guitars. It will be new for her, groovy, funky, perfect old school jam but not odd. I am sure she loves this sound too and grew up as a child listening to Diana Ross, Donna Summer and other legends sounds of that mid-late 70s and early 80s era. She has worked with him on her debut album and the guitars were addicting. Furthermore, it would be great to create a smash hit similar to ''Enough is enough'' which starts like a ballad and evolves into a disco anthem. It would not alienate her from her glorious past and combine her dance anthems with ballads in one killer track. If you take into consideration disco is again a hot trend (get lucky with blurred lines are a treasure) and it`s along with soul, rnb, funk the root of her love, hip hop and rap (Sugar Delight`s first rap song ever samples some good times from Chic), she can do miracles with this genre.

The voice (39,293)
by Randy from USA
| |
|
|
The same topic over and over, but I'm going to cap my feelings on the voice and its "deterioration". Yes, singer's voices change over time and yes MCs voice has changed. My problem is that she sounds amazing on wax. The problem is live performances when they count. At a concert recorded with camera phones she seems confident, shows off, does vocal acrobatics. As soon as there is a television camera involved, she goes all to pieces. Then I'm stuck defending her for days on Facebook. I think the voice has changed and she sounds wonderful on CDs, but live on an awards show, unless she's lip syncing, it's a hot mess.

Vocals (39,291)

Any singer who looks after their voice can have it last for an entire career without problem. Just look at most opera singers, who sing "correctly" (to avoid any vocal damage) and who take great care of their instruments. Mariah's vocals deteriorated after her separation and later divorce from Tommy M, and I believe it was at this point that Mariah started drinking more (references to drinking started showing up in her lyrics from Butterfly onwards). Most people know alcohol is extremely bad for singers, as is milk and dairy products, carbonated drinks, caffeinated drinks etc., lol, all they really can drink is water, and the above in moderation. Mariah's voice can sound great (shining through the rain was brilliant as was most of the Adventures tour), but she needs to be sensible and rested and take care of it. If she wants yo have "splashes", that's her choice and up to her, but soon it will take its toll. Look at poor Whitney.

Re: MC#1 from USA (39,290)

Mariah's voice does not sound the same as when she first started. Neither does it sound the way it did in 1995 or 2000. Mariah's voice has gone through quite a transformation since she broke out on the scene. Her voice has become airier (especially comparing her debut album with later releases in the 90's) and more nasal (starting with Charmbracelet). She does not have the same fluidity or power she used to have. She is still an amazingly technically gifted singer, but there's no arguing her voice is not the same. Even her technique has changed, you can see it just from how she moves her mouth when singing. It has become harder for her to reach certain notes so I don't think she sings the way she wants to but I do think she sings the way she can. People like Patti Labelle have managed to preserve their voices throughout their carreers, but Mariah's has lost some of its earlier shine. Don't take me wrong, I still adore Mariah's music and always will, but I think one needs to be honest with oneself and accept that certain things are no longer the same. Perfect example: In the 90's I knew for a fact Mariah would blow me away with her vocals, now I'm always a bit worried she's gonna sing a few notes out of key or lipsynch some parts, which she does a lot. No hating here, just stating facts that are obvious to me.

Mariah's voice still sounds the same, she still sounds like herself. I think she just sings the way she wants to, the way she likes. Of course, there is some wear and tear from years of singing, which she's been doing since she was 3, 40 years ago.
