#Louie Vega dance remix (38,454)
by Brad from USA
| |
|
|
Hi lambs. Well, finally a tolerable remix. Louie did the best he could since the song doesn't lend itself to dance, at all. I always, always, always believe even when I am at my most critical. I never give up on her because of all the wonder she has brought me over the years. I am still looking for that "distant glimmer of hope" for this new era. Be well.

You're right. Even I can't deny it anymore. And my apology was to you as well. I just don't want to accept that this woman I've admired for so long seems to have given up. Why should I continue to defend and disillusion myself when the person I adore doesn't seem to care. At this point, I respectfully repeat what I said a few posts down, "Thanks for the memories." I do wonder what 20 year old Mariah would make of this? Maybe if those who claim to love her sat her down and made her watch what she was she'd be spurred into action. Mariah, I love you, please, rediscover yourself and reclaim who you are. You're Mariah Carey, and while "that doesn't mean a thing to me", it means a lot to myself, a fan for life.

Tempos plod, and hooks are few. That line from the Rolling Stone review of Charmbracelet is an apt description of Memoirs.

Comments on Fourth of July performance from a viewer (38,451)
by SC from USA
| |
|
|
Hi guys. I attended yesterday's Fourth of July taping and she looked beautiful. The weather was terrible, so everything started at around 8:30PM, even though we were supposed to be there at 6:30PM. She performed "America The Beautiful" three times and I'm pretty sure this was a pre-recorded track. A lot of people in the audience were looking at each other during the taping trying to see if it was actually live. Like I said, she performed it three times and they all sounded exactly the same. I really hope the editing is done properly this time to avoid any other issues. During the performance, she seemed to be in a good mood and was very nice (as always) to the fans. She actually didn't know that fans were going to be there, which was interesting. She also sang snippets of Fourth Of July, Circles, and Fly Like A Bird as Big Jim Wright was by the piano and he collaborated with her on those during the original recordings. Right after she finished the third performance of the song, we were all cleared of the field as the it started to rain really badly. Thunderstorms showed up, so we were all supposed to leave the area. I'm not really sure if any fans ended up staying, but it seems like she sang two other songs. I can't wait to see them next week. As always, it's very exciting to see her. Some fans asked her about the remixes and she said that there are more surprises on the way, including the video. [...] Let's hope it happens.

Walter (38,450)

If she worked with Walter for this new album, surely those songs would showcase her voice. Maybe, she hated those songs because they were schmaltzy, as she has said of some of their work together. Personally, I think she needs him. She wrote her best songs with him. If she thinks her fans and the public want ballads that sound like Triumphant, she's delusional. She would with Miguel, Happy Perez, Walter, and Babyface.

Your post was spot on. I couldn't have said it better myself. Even those here who have been staunch supporters of her can see things are falling apart. #Beautiful was a great start. It was doing well on the radio, airplay was up, things were looking good. Then an album push back. Then hot messy remixes that are so below what she is capable of doing are released. Everything was in place and now it's all falling apart. Someone somewhere better get it together fast.

One more epic era, please MC? (38,448)
by John from USA
| |
|
|
I understand that maybe her focus is now more on her family. She's been in the game for 23 years. I get it. But I would much rather her take her time in between albums, but really put in 100% effort to make each era epic (just as they were in the 90s and TEOM and the beginning of the E=MC2 era). If I were her, personally, I'd be trying hard for one more epic album/era. Not only to really cement herself as a legend (which she already is), but prove that she can more than hold her own against the likes of Katy Perry, Rihanna, and Britney (all of whom have questionable talent, if any). I would love another smash, epic album with a handful of hits. And then, after that, I'd probably quit and just release singles/EPs here and there. She has what it takes, the question is, does she care? I'm no longer sure she does.

She doesn't care (38,446)
by Chase from USA
| |
|
|
Even when there is a great single and opportunity, she doesn't promote it. Even with a "flop" album like Charmbracelet, she hit the road, toured the world, released creative music videos, and was connected to the fans. Remember the Rainbow era, with the Heartbreaker video and the Homecoming show? She doesn't do anything special like that anymore. She was on her game with The Emancipation Of Mimi. There were promotions across the globe, radio and television interviews, performances of each new single across major networks. In this era of YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, etc. she could connect to her fans and the general public more easily and with less effort than ever before. She stopped caring after E=MC2 hit the shelves, and it has slowed ever since. This coincides with the beginning of a new chapter in her personal life. Getting married and raising a family is more important than a music career, but if she truly doesn't care about her career anymore, why not leave music for a while and quit insulting us with such poor productions?

Lol. I'm not being insulting, but half of you sound like you're going to slit your wrist. Now I've been critical of MC, especially over live, critical performances that she's lipped or sounded awful, but keep in mind that MC has never given us a bad album. I personally feel like #Beautiful is her worst lead off single ever. It's so boring. But I believe that any album she puts out will be top quality. I know I differ with you guys in that I loved Memoirs and I didn't think Bye Bye was a bad single choice. I know we agree she puts out the best albums even if we don't always like certain songs/single choices. I still believe.

The current state of Mariah's career is a hot mess (38,443)
by John from USA
| |
|
|
I'm reading everyone's comments and laughing, because I know how you all feel. There is something seriously wrong behind the scenes, and has been ever since the middle of the E=MC2 era. It's kinda said that TEOM can be looked at as a post-Tommy Mottola fluke. That was her only legit hit album without him. Ever since then, with the exception of TEOM, she's lucky to crack the Top 20, maybe the Top 10. Touch My Body, although now one of my favorites, was nothing special compared with her 90s work, but she promoted the hell out of it and looked phenomenal. She actually gave a damn, and the promo (at least for TMB) was extremely well organized and the album was done. If I were her, and saw that Beautiful was doing fairly well in airplay and sales, I'd be singing the song on every street corner and tv show to at least get me a Top 10. Now that she's had her kids and done the family thing, I'm sorry, she should be working harder and be more focused than she is. This isn't funny anymore. As someone said "thanks for the memories" I guess.

I am so glad to hear that she sang "4th of July" that is one of my top 5 songs by MC. Everything about that song is gorgeous, the lyrics, the music, the backgrounds, the voice. If I could have her do anything, I would want her to make more songs like that and "Underneath the stars". True like 70s singer-songwriter vibe. I actually think that's who MC is more so than anything else.

I get the impression that Mariah wanted the title and all the details of the album to be announced under her own terms and not when everyone else wanted. I think once the title got leaked, she got really pissed. So far everything had been going right up until the leaking of the title.

Ok, so it's not the title / second remix (38,440)
by Will from England

If the quote is accurate, Mariah said that The Art Of Letting Go isn't the title. But it has something to do with the Babydoll chorus/bridge. So it could just be about anything at this point lol. But after looking through the lyrics, my fav choice is "Have A Little More Wine". I guess it's back to the waiting game. As for the second remix, I'd take that one over whatever the first one was. It was nice to hear her sing Spanish again.

#16#Beautiful (38,439)

I have to admit that I am one of those die hard fans of Mimi who look and monitor her performance on Hot 100 and Billboard 200. I have not listened yet to any of the remixes out there, but I am still hoping that this single is not going on the opposite direction at this time but break into the top 10 at least, if not owning the elusive #1 and make it her 19th. I believe this is a crucial time for her career, so she must release singles and album that will cement fully her name as a legend.

Remixes (38,438)

Does anyone else get the impression these remixes are a F-U to the record label? They are so rubbish it is astonishing. Mariah's no idiot, she must know they're terrible, and is deliberately releasing them anyway. Whatever the reason for them, they're insulting to her fans.

On a positive note, I can't wait to see the 4th of July performances. From the few little insta videos she sounded great. They even got her in jeans for the beautiful performance. Also she sang old songs like Bliss and 4th of July.

Remixes (38,436)
by Licia from USA

I love her hip hop collabos, but I'm not feeling this one. I was looking for a remix in the style of We Belong Together and Don't Forget About Us Desert Storm mixes. The raps, new vocals, and different beat just meshed well together. The Spanglish version is just messy. In 23 years I have only liked 3 of her dance mixes, so I don't think I will like these, even with resung vocals. I'll just keep listening to the original. It's not the end of the world for me.

#Beautiful remixes/ promotion (38,435)
by clueey23 from USA
| |
|
|
Okay, I've tried to stay positive about this whole thing, but would've hurt to at least slow down the tempo and strip it down for the Spanglish mix? I'm tired of hearing the original music on the remixes. MC sounded great, but the production is stale. For the first time I felt a disconnect with the song. As I've stated before A$AP wasn't the best choice. Wale, J.Cole, Drake or even older rappers like Nas or Common would've been a great addition. Here's to hoping the best is yet to come. I hope she doesn't cancel "The view" like I've read. This is becoming a ridiculous circus. We still have the BET Awards and Macy's 4th parade. It would be nice if she sang her verse on #Beautiful and meshed it with Fourth of July (one of my favorites). Or just sing something new. Yet still I feel excited for this era of new music. I still feel as though #Beautiful could reach top 5 if she just sang it. For example, on "The view".

Very worrisome (38,434)
by Brad from USA
| |

Hi lambs. I haven't had this level of concern for MC and her career since Glitter. Something is seriously wrong. The "remixes" she is releasing are amateurish, at best, and it seems she doesn't care about her career. As such, I'm not sure how she can expect her fans to care about it at all. I'm not sure if something is wrong with her voice or a creative difference with IDJ or if there is an issue in her personal life, but there is clearly a problem. She was supposed to tape her Macy's July 4th performance tonight, does anyone have info on whether she did it and sang live? I somewhat doubt that she did. I wish she would be honest with her fans. I think after all our loyalty, we deserve that.

#Beautiful remixes (38,433)
by Joe from United Kingdom
| |
|
|
I was gonna give Mariah the benefit of the doubt with the first remix, even though it didn't add anything new for me, it's pretty much what I expected. A rapper pasted on at the beginning of the track. But when I heard the Spanish version, I just laughed. I know remixes aren't the main focus, but I just wish more effort in terms of production was put in. The Triumphant remixes sounded very cut and paste to me and so do these two aswell. I await the rest of the remixes to see how they will turn out. I'm trying not to be to negative right now.

Wtf is going on? (38,432)
by Stephen from London, United Kingdom

Mariah seriously needs to sort her game out. This is ridiculous. #Beautiful has done really well. The general public are actually responding to Mariah again. She had enough momentum to get that song into the top 10, possibly number one. All that was required was for her to do her day job. There was enough momentum that with a strong second single, she could have done really well. Then she postpones the album to what looks like indefinitely. She's been writing songs for 3 years. How bad are they? Like seriously, the material must be whack. You mean to tell me that in 3 years, she's not been able to string together a few decent songs. Lets remember that #Beautiful is primarily Miguel's production. Mariah may have contributed to it, and helped him complete it, but the inception and basic song is his. Her voice is a mess. Her song writing is clearly not what it was. Her remixes are lazy. Her promotion, or lack thereof, is lazy. These remixes feel like a few scraps you chuck to a stray dog you feel sorry for hanging on a street corner. It's not on. If she doesn't want to make music and would rather focus on garbage like AI, then so be it, but she should stop pretending that she's actually interested in the music anymore, because you can't put crap like this out and seriously expect people to believe it. It's time for her to call in some help and boot JD. They're run is over. Strike up a new creative force. Miguel should be explored further IMO.

Old stuff (38,431)
by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
| |
|
|
It seems that Mariah is stuck where she has been since the late '90s, she doesn't do anything she hasn't done before. I think that #Beautiful sounded fresh, but those remixes make the song sound like some old Mariah stuff and really is far from what both fans and the masses want. When she did Spanish versions of her songs two decades ago, there was a Spanish wave in music genereally, now it sounds just so old. If the dance remix isn't a killer, I really dont know what to think anymore.

It's not MC's 14th studio album, it's her 11th. The MTV Unplugged EP and the two Christmas albums don't count as studio albums. As for the album being postponed, so what? It's not that big of a deal, things get postponed all the time. Waiting is a part of life.
