"Alone In Love" (89,052)
by Billy from Greece
| |
|
|
Can we show this absolute gem some love? One of the first songs that I fell in love with, and one of the benchmarks of Mariah's sound in my opinion. She seems to also consider it special, given that she has mentioned it several times (most recently the Genius interview). When the demos leaked, AIL's demo was also included. It was slightly different and equally haunting. It's the only one you can't find online anymore. Just in thought that the nightmare camp has stolen the demo tape, I want to very, and I mean very, bad things to them.

I don't know if Mariah is actually "hating" on her work or just giving excuses as to why Glitter and Charmbracelet didn't do well commercially. To me Charmbracelet did very well considering the fact that the album had no commercial hit singles and Mariah's career was in the tank. Mariah did say on TRL recently that she didn't give Glitter no love because it almost killed her. I'm generalizing, those weren't her exact words but she basically was saying the Glitter era was very painful for her and for years it was hard for her to pay attention to that album which I as a die hard fan understand. Give Mariah a little credit. She is now actually performing songs from that album. Regarding fans hating Bye Bye. I think we diehards were just utterly disappointed that song was the second single. There were so many songs on E=MC2 that had potential to be great hits and it would have been nice to break the formula of first single mid tempo song then follow up with a ballad. We diehards just feel that Migrate and OOC were better singles. Those songs were different, out of the box for Mariah. LA Reid wanted to play it safe instead of taking chance.

Why do I have a feeling that at the end of this subway ride Missy and LiL Kim are gonna jump on board? Hmmm. Now wouldn't that be cray, cray?

Last US show, Caution tour plus board activity (89,049)
by DK from USA
| |
|
|
Got to see MC in Bethlehem, PA - her last US stop for Caution Tour (this was my 4th time seeing her throughout her career). My first impression of the venue is that it felt super intimate (2nd row seating) but apparently it houses 6000 guests (not as small as I thought). MC came out a bit late, around 9:15 and curtains went down around 10:30. In a way it felt like a quick show (she didn't sing songs like Portrait or With You). Overall, she was fantastic.

How are singles chosen? (89,048)
by Jeff from USA

Hi everyone. Just curious. Does anyone know how singles are chosen? Is it the label? Does the artist have influence? Are second, third, etc. singles chosen based on downloads/radio requests? Thanks for any info.

I can't say I disagree with you. She has also dismissed the debut album in a similar fashion before, especially Someday and I Don't Wanna Cry, both of which are highlights. I agree Through the Rain is a great song and doesn't deserve to be written off like that.

The same was said about With You but it became a hit at Adult Contemporary and R&B radio. I'm taking a wait and see approach to A No No before deeming it a failure.

Agreed. The Grammy's wouldn't pass up the opportunity to honor Slick Rick. I honestly believe Caution will win the Grammy Award for Best Best R&B Album.

I think she doesn't like certain songs from Charmbracelet like Through The Rain because Lyor Cohen and other executives demanded she make them to address the events of 2001. I think she would've preferred making an album like TEOM instead which is exactly what she did once Reid took over. She praises My Saving Grace, I Only Wanted, The One, and Yours. She praises songs that weren't commercial successful like The Roof and Breakdown.

That's a screen cap from the video. It's wild that Shawni is in the original video the whole time and Mimi chose to, or was required to sit on their remix this whole time.

She does have to better re-enact her songs, in order to recreate the records.

One thing Mariah does that pisses me off (89,039)
by Randy from USA

Diehards go here with me for a moment. I hate that when MC doesn't have a commercial success she downplays the genius of her work. For example, with Glitter. If you remember the Charmbracelet interviews, she said "Oh it was a soundtrack, a concept record and it came out in September 11th." My whole thing is Glitter is a strong record, lyrically and vocally. It wasn't until you guys started Justice For Glitter that she even went back to it. She threw it away because the mainstream threw it away. So here's what brings me to this post. She did it again with the Genius interview, which I just saw. She talked badly about Through The Rain, stating that the album Charmbracelet didn't do well because the record company wanted to go with a woe is me moment in selecting that song. Through The Rain is one of her best records lyrically and vocally and the video is perfection. So because something isn't successful it's somehow less than? Some of her number ones aren't that great to me. And I've stated on here recently that you all hate Bye Bye because of it being selected as a single but not based on whether or not it is a good song. Mariah has agreed with you all in interviews. My point, how can you hate on your own creations when your asked about commercial disappointment? No one is ever going to have as much success as you had so there were bound to be some valleys. Love the songs and realize there is no magic formula for a number one or else every artist would have them all the time. And music would be dull.

GML video (89,036)
by Dove from United States
| |
|
|
You guys know how they used the footage from AIWFCIY for the Miss You Most at Christmas Time video? Someone should use the footage for With You for GML. I would do it myself but I don't know how. The With You video fits way better with GML IMO. Just remove the parts where she's lip syncing in the car.
While you're at it, if someone knows how to do this and is willing, make a video for Underneath the Stars using footage from ABMB video and Daydream tour Tokyo concert. Make the concert footage grainy.

Personally, I would've went with Caution, Giving Me Life, or 8th Grade but I'm not going to complain about Epic choosing A No No as the second single. I'm still confused why Epic released the Stefflon Don remix if the Shawni remix was already in the bag. Still loving the album.

It could be her upper register, but to me it just sounds like a wind instrument too. However Mariah's always had a knack for sneaking in high notes here and there most times very faintly in the background until it sounds like a wind instrument like on "When You Believe" she warbles an adlib before the harmony fade out of the song. Gotta love her. Lol.

This is amazing, Celine as always exudes confidence and you can see that inner peace and contentment within herself at this point of her life. I really do hope Mariah will reach that too.
