Thank you for this post. I love the song.

Perhaps. Not here she isn't but maybe in your corner of the world. It is, is it not, axiomatic, that Madonna is considerably more heralded and respected world wide. I wish it were not so, but I think it is, not being someone who makes believe things because it is comforting.

Yours is just an ad hominem attack because you have nothing for a rebuttal. That you were "called out" on a nonsense post must be painful.

Re: Latest lawsuit (88,950) (88,974) by B from USA
I can't wait for this to be over. Can someone explain to me how threatening to expose Mariah hurts the former assistant? Wouldn't it validate her claims?

Re: Reception (88,971) (88,973) by B from USA
Madonna is the butt of a lot of jokes and unlike Mariah she takes herself way too seriously and isn't on the joke.

We can always depend on Andrew if we need trash talking about Mariah.

Re: Reception (88,967) (88,971) by Andrew from London, UK
"[Mariah] has stayed away from drugs as coping mechanism, and she hasn't developed an anti social personality disorder like Madonna." This is, arguably, highly innacurate or just not true. Mariah, from several sources, is rumoured to be, or have been, addicted to alcohol, weed and/or prescription drugs. She is an alcoholic, of that much everyone can be certain, as obviously constantly evidenced. The weed is rumoured not only from sources that have known her personally but also from fans waiting for her. It also explains the drastic vocal degradation of somebody who doesnt even sing much but instead lip syncs. As for the prescription drugs, she looked pretty whacked out in the Christmas tour reading from an autocue. This is merely conjecture here but I question why it was needed if she were not so out-of-it, which she appeared to be. That she probably allowed herself to indulge in all of this to a point where somebody has materials on her which could end her career isn't necessarily "holding it together". And in relation to comparing her to Madonna: Madonna isn't the butt of jokes and I would say has a lot more respect than Mariah anywhere and forever. That Mariah released Caution and it got better reviews that she normally gets is great. But let's not run away with that and use it to pretend like everything is fine and dandy Chez Carey. However, that the Stella years of fruitcakeness are now over, the lambs themselves can certainly allow themselves a small sigh of relief. Perhaps, not a huge one.

Bye Bye (88,970) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
If we are being completely honest, about 90% of the hate on this song comes from the fact that it was released by the label (apparently against Mariah's wishes) as an attempt to duplicate the It's Like That - We Belong Together upbeat then ballad one-two punch strategy that has so successfully worked for TEOM, forgetting that Touch My Body wasn't an upbeat but a mid-tempo hit, so following it up with another mid-tempo finger-snapping, watered and dumbed-down version of One Sweet Day was not ideal at all. 2008-2009 was a time when the popularity of similarly styled R&B-lite songs such as Chris Brown's With You and Rihanna's Take A Bow were dying to make way for the electropop reign of Gaga and Ke$ha. Bye Bye did have potential, but not as a second single, especially when Migrate and Cruise Control were around and begging for a release. Back to the point - Bye Bye was hated mostly for "killing" E=MC2's momentum and is more often than not unfairly judge based on that rather than its own merits as a song.

It's actually a cute track about loss for the younger 2008 audience, lyrically genuinely affecting at some parts and cringe-worthy in others. Bye Bye did not kill Mariah's chances of a 19th #1 - the label did, as did Mariah's romance with Nick at the time to some degree, which we really can't hate because that eventually gave us Roc & Roe almost 3 years later.

Re: Outside (88,968) (88,969) by MusicfanJ from Germany
Perfect description of this beautiful song. When Mariah sings softly at the end "You'll always be somewhere on the outside" it gets me everytime. So emotional and true. That song has always a special place in my heart too.

Outside (88,968) by anonymous from UK
I'm still struck at how much of a profound impact this song has, after 22 years, and yet I find myself asking, why? It is profound. The lyrics are timeless; not so cheap and desperate to be considered light reading, yet neither Plato. Such real words, which even when you see them written on plain paper in front of you, are impactful. Couple that with the music, it's no wonder that this song still stands as a dan favourite. I challenge anyone to listen to this song, really listening and raking in the lyrics and the heartbreaking delivery and be unmoved. Especially the last "and, oh, and, oh, and, God knows, that you're standing on you're own". That delivery in and of itself cemented and continues to cement my adoration and love of this remarkable person we call MC.

Such a dark place to be in, so perfectly captured, yet always, a hint of hope, of what just might, if what could just might, be.

Re: Reception (88,952) (88,967) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
Anthony, I couldn't have said it any better myself. Thank you for the elaboration.

Just to add something to your elaboration. I think the reason why people are starting to appreciate Mariah, is that she is on the level of Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Prince, Madonna, and other greats without having turned her life into a selfdestructive mess. Just think of all the others that has been eaten up by their own success, Amy Winehouse, Kurt Cobain, Justin Bieber, Demi Levato etc.

She has stayed away from drugs as coping mechanism, and she hasn't developed an anti social personality disorder like Madonna.

People have critisized Mariah for her divaness, crazy statements, too lavish lifestyle. But I think people are starting to realise that Mariah is one of the few greats that has actually her sh*t together, and her personality has pretty much stayed constant after the late 90's. I think people now think it's an achievement to just be alive considered her level of success, and if that means that we have to listen to crazy statements, witness cooky and odd behaviour, a bit too much chardonnay, well that has just become charming compared to the alternatives.

MC fan collection Germany (88,964) by Caroline from Germany
Dear MCArchives team, just as I'm a damn big Mariah fan I'm also a very long follower of your website. Thank you so much for letting us lambs know day by day what's going on with our queen Mariah. I love you.

I have a special concern and I hope, you will read my message. Actually I wanted to write a personal message to you but as I couldn't find any contact etc this is the only option I have.

When I was 12/13 I became a Mariah fan. And this does not mean I was only listening to her songs, I also started collecting what I was able to get about her. Which means mostly some articles from music magazines etc. I think I stopped buying magazines and collecting this stuff around the Charmbracelet era. But until then, my collection grew to fill about 4 big files with articles about Mariah from German magazines.

I also have some promo posters from Butterfly, #1's and Glitter, including a book from the Charmbracelet tour. I kept all this because it means a lot to me. But now I feel I have to let go from certain things in my life and this includes my MC articles collection. I could never ever throw away my collection. Instead, I'd like to give it to someone who will appreciate it and keep it safe for some more years.

I'm not sure if you have a material collection from Mariah or if you are only collecting news on your website. But as I am a loyal follower I thought I can just ask you if you are interested in this collection. For further communication I'd kindly ask you to send me a personal message.

Hope to hear from you soon, dahhhhling. Greetings from Germany, Caro.

Re: The last karaoke (88,962) (88,963) by Andrew from London, UK
Would you call it a Mariah Carey song? It is very obscure, it was not written by her, she says she doesn't like it and it doesn't fit anywhere into her catalogue of the last decade and a half.

What about Almost Home? It has a glorious key change. Mariah Carey-oke has ruined more throats than smoker's cough.

Agreed. Caution is an immediately enjoyable listening experience from start to finish.

Re: The last karaoke (88,958) (88,960) by Andrew from London, UK
Mariah's Theme does not have pace. It stops and starts and is sung way too slowly and I dare say somewhat awkwardly. The piano rifts separating the verses is too long and awkward and doesn't fit the song. This is not a good song to sing along to - which was my original point. Whenever You Call is. Lead The Way is a brilliant song but is not sung in a singalong-able way. TTR also suffers from snail-pace whispering and impossible octave screaming at the denouement. And so on and so on.

Re: Bye Bye (88,957) (88,959) by Andrew from London, UK
"And you never got to see how good I've done. You never got to see me back at number one." That line is desperately sad and moved me to tears. We all seek approval from our parents. It's very relatable. Unfortunately she then starts talking about teddy bears. Two songs with teddy bears in them in one album. Suffice is to say Mariah had started to get a bit iffy with lyrics around this point.

Mariah's Theme has everything you said it doesn't. 90% of Mariah's songs do.

"I wish that we could spend the holidays together" really, really struck a chord with me and moved me to tears when I first heard it. Such a simple statement, yet absolutely heartbreaking.

Oh dear. I'm back mate. Sometimes I visit this messageboard and it reminds me of a junior high class or something like that. I totally love the new "effort" by Mariah. It's called "Caution" and not Prizm. It rhymes with Callous or nation mate etc. I bet Stella is going Mishka bear-ish on the koala bears. Good night my knight.

Re: The last karaoke (88,947) (88,955) by Terna from Nigeria
How so? It is a ballad now isn't it? Did you listen to Mariah's description of what a ballad means to her? I think that was around the time of the release of "The Ballads" compilation a podcast I believe.
(Tuesday 2 April 2019; 10:47)
Re: The last karaoke (88,945) (88,954) by Terna from Nigeria
Never said she did, we're fans we know very well that's Brenda's song, that wasn't the point I was trying to make. "Bye bye" is a beautifully written and beautifully sung ballad, you may not like it, but personally I have met many people who aren't into Mariah's music that love that song especially the younger generation.

PS: Calling some of her most profound songs "crap" just makes you come across as unstable and in need of a psych evaluation. Take that negative energy somewhere else.

Re: The last karaoke (88,945) (88,953) by Andrew from London, UK
Once more you on here completely miss the point of the text. Ballads with crescendo, pace and key change that are worth singing in Karaoke do not include Mariah's Theme or Bye Bye or Supernatural and is just absurd.
