Re: Reception (88,948) (88,952)

What a lovely post, and very true. Sadly most hugely artists are trashed until their starpower begins to wane, as it's always easy to trash the sun that can't be touched.
Regardless of what many here might think or say, as time goes on, I think more and more are starting to appreciate Mariah not only for her selling power and talent, but her kooky, eccentric demeanour. I've always found it very endearing, and I've said it before yet it bears repeating - I truly think Mariah is nuts, and I don't lean her bipolar disorder. I think she's slightly unhinged, and I've always found that fascinating and entirely relatable. She is openly eccentric and odd, and that's super amazing. An individual who continues to present so in a world with so much pressure to present as this, that or the other.
Anyway, tangent, but great post, and I agree. So proud to be a Mariah lamb, stan and fan.

Caution (88,951)
by anonymous from UK
| |
|
|
Yet again, have to check in and say I'm still listening to this album. When M.AIM was released, I loved it and enjoyed it, and some songs were stand out, but for whatever reason, it fell by the wayside for me very quickly, and it's one of my least revisited albums, although when I listen to it I still love it and see why I enjoyed it so much.
Caution, however, as an album, is one that just doesn't leave my mind. It's so short, yet the perfect length; it leaves me wanting more but at the same time doesn't feel incomplete. In that regard, what an annoying album, haha. I love all of the songs (yes, all) individually, however, it truly shines when listened to from start to finish as a whole package. It's an album in the truest sense. It sounds just as great sober as it does drunk, quite the feat. I know this is my opinion, but I'm not over this album and I think it will be a long time till I am. It's a daily listen. The last MC album that had me so hooked was E=MC2, but I can already feel and see from my listening habits that Caution overtakes. MC has what she has almost what she always wanted now - an album of incredible music and moods with critical acclaim. Unfortunately, it has eluded sales, however that I am not surprised about. I, like many of you, believe that she has a surprise breakout hit still left in her, however, I'd take an album of this musical quality over huge hits anyway. I'm sure she feels differently however, as a consumer of the product, I feel I'm surely entitled to expresss this opinion.

Latest lawsuit (88,950)

So now the former assistant is being sued by Stella for making racist rants among other atrocities. What a "cluster fluck "of sickos in that camp. It's a long scroll down for the story, but Mimi exposed her kids to a band of nuts.

Bye Bye (88,949)
by Randy from USA
| |
|
|
Ya'll gonna stop hating on Bye Bye. I really like the track, have ya'll listened to the instrumental? Stargate did a really good job. To me it's a hood One Sweet Day. There are two things that make me love the song. The whistle plus the ad-libs that follow it at the end of the song. I scream it to the top of my lungs every time I hear it. The other reason I love it is because it quite personal and about singular experiences she's had. I know I know she's done it with Petals and Sunflowers for Alfred Roy, but so many times she refuses to give specifics about her inspirations because she wants the song to be universal. The only reason y'all hate the song is because it only went to number 19 and it was released instead of Migrate and ya'll feel it stopped the momentum of E=MC2. That's not a reason to call a song a bad song. No one knows what songs will hit or not. But don't call Bye Bye a terrible song.

Reception (88,948)
by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway

Since nobody here is talking about how Mariah is praised in almost every review, then I will.
I'm so proud of Mariah when I read the reviews, even though she's not the energetic live artist most superstars are, I think it's very nice to see that she gets the recognition she deserves. Mariah has actually turned into a critics' favourite. When she was here in Oslo three years ago, all the reviews in the newspapers were just so wonderful to read.
Mariah has turned into solid live performer with solid concerts.

This album is and always be my favorite album. It has everything for everyone. Ballads, hip-hop, R&B, Pop, dance remixes, etc. I was 18 when it was released and I'm 41 now. Still sounds so fresh as it did 20+ years ago.

You say: "So [are] we just [going to] throw away Through the Rain, Bye Bye, Mariah's Theme, Lead The Way, When You Believe, Never Too Far, I Still Believe, Right to Dream, Angel's Cry, Supernatural and a bevy of other [ballads] she's written and recorded after Butterfly?"
First of all, she didn't write "I still believe", and there's some crap on that list. Bye Bye? Really? Can't stand that song or sound. I guess we all have our own subjective opinions.

"Lulls her listeners into her dream world." That's true, if I listen to Mariah she takes me away in a dreamland. And I love it. Her background vocals are always perfection. She's a genius with all the background vocals that fit so well on every song.

That happened to one of the shows I went to on her Adventures of MiMi tour at Mohegan Sun in CT. Except it was only 45 mins. I've seen her in Boston a few days before that and it was 90 minutes.

Not sure why she cut out 4-5 songs. Instagram lambs were posting left and right that they feel ripped off. Maybe because it was a casino? Those tickets were 300-400 dollars.

This. Mariah's vocals on Daydream are dreamy and I believe it was intentional. Mariah is a master at what she does. A lot of her best songs could be described as dreamlike. She's able to use her voice in ways that lulls her listeners into her dream world. Mariah's attention to detail, especially her intricately layered vocals and background vocals, sets her apart from Whitney and Celine.

The Daydream era (88,938)

The vocals are dreamy and puts the listener into a daydream type of vibe in my opinion that why I think that whistles and belting were minimal because of what she was going for with the album as far as direction. The era itself was a golden era for MC as she also delivered some of her best vocals on that tour as well. Also that era gave us all different MC vibes musically Pop, R&B, A/C, and hip hop.

The lack of her usual punch vocally is what turns me off Daydream. I still like the album, but for me there's always been this unsettling feeling as if she's singing with a diminished voice and also singing noticeably outside of her natural range with a little bit of effort. The vocal growls and gritty delivery is totally non existent it's just all resonance and airy girlie cooing. Maybe that's the mood she wanted to go for after all it is titled "Daydream". Lol. Best song to me was and still is "Melt Away" because after that bridge she said [censored] it and unleashed a power belt. And also snuck in some whistle notes.

Whenever You Call is brilliant and more important truly emotional. It has the softly side at the beginning and the powerful end. Classic MC. Yup, that's what I call "real music". It was indeed the last Mariah ballad. I miss those kind of songs with lyrics.

It's been on the R&B Album Sales chart for 18 weeks and is back at #1 this week, its fifth nonconsecutive week at #1 on the chart. I also listen to Caution daily which I didn't do with MOAIA or MIAM. I don't think Mariah or Epic are going to abandon this album after just 4 and a half months.
I think Caution which is one of the album's most streamed songs should be the next single. Mariah should call up Paul Hunter and resurrect Agent M for the video.

Agree, let's relish and enjoy Caution as it was a long wait, but well worth it. Now Mariah's a mother and touring constantly, I suppose we have to get used to longer periods between albums, we really were spoilt in the 90s when she pounded out an album virtually every year.

I know Caution didn't perform well with sales, but I'm just not ready to move on to "the next album". I have literally listened to the album in my car every day since it came out. I simply can't let it go. I'm still in bliss listening to this album. It's brilliant.

Obsessed is maybe the one Mariah song I almost can't listen to. Yes, the message is fierce and the video is fun, but the song is ugly and doesn't sound good when performed live.
