"I wish you well" or "Fly like a bird"? (85,489)

Each one of these songs is perfection to me. But Fly Like a Bird is her greatest vocal.

The part II album rumor is interesting. It would be nice since one of the perks of having her last 3 album releases (2009-2014) not do as well as one would predict a Mariah effort would, she really has nothing to lose and everything to gain. The trouble with two-part albums that aren't released simultaneously as one double album is that such release strategy is tricky and very risky especially for popular mainstream artists. Mariah is mainstream but hasn't been all the rage for a decade now, so however she wants to drop her albums won't really matter that much anymore, especially since she no longer cares about charting. However, should there be any truth to this rumor, I still hope she learns from what happened to Justin Timberlake in 2013. The material in the second installment should be at least as strong as the first one. If it's filled with songs that are considered outtakes, then it would end up like JT's The 20/20 Experience Part 2 of 2. Pointlessly self-indulgent effort that not only pales in comparison to its predecessor, but also negates whatever good the first part has done. If it's not ready, don't release it just to be able to give more, as more isn't always better.

Grethchen Wieners said: "Irregardless, ex-boyfriends are just off-limits to friends." I think Mariah clearly knows the word "irregardless" doesn't exist, but she loves pulling herself a mean-girls every now and then.

Here's the thing, I love Mariah like we all do. But you can't deny that Mariah was a studio made machine or should I say an industry made machine. The only difference was Mariah used to be able to back her vocal ability up, even surpass them at times singing live. Here's why it's been a sham: Like mostly all singers what they lay down in the studio is perfection, at least based off their own vocals because of digital editing and auto tune ect. It's like the model in magazines that you see them on a cover, but you see them in person, and they still look good but they usually look normal because you can't edit them in real life lol. Any singer, Mariah included, could piece meal a track together. Mariah was just able to replicate it live. Sony messed her up because they dubbed to kingdom come a lot of Mariah's performances. Shoot even (which I was a bit disappointed) songs on MTV unplugged was song three times and dubbed together. Not saying she sounded bad, I fact a lot of her undubbed performances I think she sounds better and more natural in. The problem is the fact that it created a perfect performance from a perfect performer for the general public (who may not have went to her concert) especially since up until 2003 Mariah didn't do long concert stints like most Artist. Cue the tin foil hats: My theory is that even though we all know Mariah had vocal troubles in 97, its interesting to see that her live performances started showing flaws, like they weren't dubbed to perfection like earlier ones, did not having Tommy's backing anymore contribute to this? Without YouTube like today most people here in the US when not have heard a few performances where she was sick or having vocal trouble like her performance of emotions in Milan in 91 I believe. Ok back to reality. Basically what I'm saying is, if we had the technology like cell phones and YouTube back then. Mariah still would have been amazing and still lauded as (to me) the best vocalist ever, but her singing would have been more real. (Listen to the 95 hero at MSG undubbed, vs the dubbed version, when they made the climax with her airy voice, which she didn't fully perfect till a year later). Not saying it was her fault, mostly Sony's, but later on 97+ she was forced to keep up this "perfect" singing image even when having vocal troubles and not taking proper care of her voice anymore. To me the most real vocal eras we had was Mariah Carey, Emotions and Daydream. So let me make it clear, I'm not in anyway denying or taking away Mariah's credits or her vocal abilities, they are or at least were there. It's just I feel bad that it seems like she became a victim of perfect vocal perfection that Tommy and Sony wanted to create and did, and when she didn't have there backing anymore she had to find a way to keep up the facade with smoke and mirrors. But I still love her and can't wait to see her in Detroit. Like RJ said, she still has or had the best voice that I have ever heard. Whitney and Celine could impress me and blow me away, but Mariah's is the only voice that could make me teary and cry.

I really loved Mariah here. Still the diva facade we already know but this is probably one of her most real moment. I really like her banter with Blake Shelton and really know how to work his charms with women. The advise she gave to the contestants were much much much better than the stuff she said on Idol, and she seem genuinely wanting them to succeed and do well. One of the advise she gave completely changed the impact of the song. It seems she give better feedback on the spot. i'm not even gonna address the comment about why she doesn't sing during the advise session, it's just so silly. She was able to communicate exactly what the contestant need to do, singing it actually lessen the impact of the advise. So you want Mariah to sing a line so she can prove she can still sing? Well that session was about her helping out not throwing celebrity around. Just a silly comment.

So we've got the next track from the album. I like how they're doing this tracklist reveal. Very different to the standard "here's what's coming on this album" in one go. Also goes to show that the TL that was going around was complete nonsense.

Well what do you know, I was just saying I don't like Ellen and I had not even seen her "Mariah costume" when I wrote it. Intuition or clairvoyance? I don't like the costume that much but it doesn't even bother me because she obviously looks nowhere near as good as Mariah so... whatever. But yeah, I wouldn't say this impersonation fully lacks a mean streak. Oh well.

The use of this word in A No No is so funny. I wonder if the wordsmith Mimi used it knowing it's non standard or what? Just knit picking and "pet peeving", but did she say "strepidation" in "With You"? Some lambs take their vocabulary lessons from Mariah lyrics seriously.

Mariah herself wouldn't get so pissed about that "costume" though. First of all she didn't dress up as Mariah, she dressed up as a contestant from shows like "The Bachelor", not any particular contestant but a made up one. Secondly, even if she had dressed up as Mariah, Mariah would find it funny since it wasn't done in a malicious manner or to make fun of her, Ellen often wears her fake boobs and persona to dress up as different celebrities like Sofia Vergara, a made up Kardashian JLo (while JLo was with her), Nicki Minaj and so on. These celebs that she dresses up as are usually also on her show while she is dressed as them and they find it hilarious too. Ellen also "dressed up" as Sofia Vergara with the dress ripped from behind to imitate the incident when Sofia dress tore off near her butt during an award show. And as for someone dressing up as Ellen, Kate McKinnon already did it on Ellen's show

Hello Bill. There is no deception anymore. The whole world knows she can't sing like she used to and depends on pre records. NYE exposed all of that. Everyone saw and heard that she uses pre recorded whistles on Emotions. Like I said before, everyone knows and nobody cares.

So Ellen DeGeneres, in another rip-roaring moment of hilarity from US television's number one comedienne, has dressed up like Mariah, fake boobs and all. Right. I think somebody should imitate Ellen and see how she likes it. All you need is a girl that can dress and look like a young millennial boy with beady eyes, unflattering short hair, terrible interviewing skills and no comedic ability whatsoever. Shouldn't be too hard to throw together.

Re: Caution standard edition tracklist (85,430) (85,469)
by Andrew from UK

You're right, WY is quite beautiful. But it does have a kind of big vocal moment in Mariah's now standard climax: sing or adlib the chorus an octave higher and sustain a note for a bit. And Mariah fails to reproduce this live everytime she "sings" it. So given that she supposedly only recorded this a couple of months ago, surely she can sing the climax like that again? At the moment I don't think there's a Dane soul alive that doesn't think heavy engineering is going on. I hope Caution gets a bit happier, because it starts off very slow and a bit morose and maintains a very slow soft temperament.

by Andrew from UK

No, Mariah doesn't lipsync in the studio. She sings a line at a time, engineers each one then sticks them together to form a song. Again, someone show me some good live vocal climaxes to WBT or FLAB or Bye Bye or We Stay In Love or #Beautiful or anything in the last ten years really. To be on The Voice is pretty cool but there is no evidence of Mariah actually having sung these tracks this way. Someone posted that Mariah sang well in the nineties and that's good enough. Maybe so. But it's a little uncomfortable watching someone "coach" aspiring singers without actually being able to demonstrate the techniques. Three guesses for why she doesn't do that? No, wait, you got it first time.

Susana, I didn't like that way she behaved towards Naomi Osaka, "trying to set her up with her crush" etc. Naomi said it out loud numerous times that she is uncomfortable with that. And just some other gut feelings I don't need to share. It's just that I used to really like her but for some unexplicable reason no longer do.

Great words and a brilliant post but the sticking point for a lot of us in the deception. The lip syncing, the studio manipulation. I agree she should be lauded for what she did in the past, but don't pretend like it's still there and you're hitting those whistle notes as easily as you did in 1991, because you're not. Stop the lies and deception and be honest with where you're at vocally, and that it came through a mix of a genuinely fragile and overworked voice and her own bad lifestyle choices.
