Re: Mariah sales (86,475) (86,480)
by Jamie from UK

I believe they are doing everything to build up her popularity with the public again, she's been a lot better of late so let's hope it continues. It's been a couple of crazy years for her, especially not controlling her Bipolar very well. I guess it's hard to be yourself with the public when a lot of your biggest hits were at a time when a record company were portraying you as this wholesome persona. She's expressed herself at times over the years probably when she was manic and the public haven't understood her actions. Hopefully now she's more settled and level she'll portray herself in a better light. I love this album it feels modern but quality again to me. Hearing it blasting out at the Mariah Experience in NYC today was amazing.

The Greatest Snowman has only sold 750,500 copies this year and is the best selling album of the year.

Caution (86,478)
by B from USA

|

Even if Caution drops off the charts completely next week I'm still going to be listening to it and loving every minute of it. Yes, I want Mariah to be successful, especially when the material warrants it, but as long as I love the music it doesn't matter to me.

Mariah only needs to shift another sixty-five million, nine-hundred and fifty thousand copies to match Thriller. Come on lambs, if we all stream 24/7 and buy multiple copies we can show everyone she's still got it.

There was a disconnect with the general buying public and radio programmers that took place after Rainbow. Her breakdown and Glitter only escalated that disconnect. When Through The Rain was released, Pop radio wouldn't play it. It only garnered some airplay on Adult A/C radio. So fast forward to We Belong Together [Webmaster: WBT was her 16th number one hit] and Touch My Body as her 17th and 18th number one hits, it was all because of LA. Reid pushed those songs to the media and radio programmers to play Mariah Carey. But today, the buying public is really not interested in Mariah's diva persona because she is seen unrelateable with the music she is delivering to world. I can remember during her album promotions she was always involved in some type of humanitarian effort or annual social event like Camp Mariah. None of my friends or co-workers like Mariah Carey. People just don't get who she is anymore. The buying public seems to stop liking an artist if they have some type of so called weirdness about them like a mental illness or a over grown persona. Look at what happened to Michael Jackson and Madonna. Maybe A No No remix will make the buying public listen to Mariah again. I tweeted an article about the remix happening and my 980 followers went crazy about my one tweet. It was liked 40 times and retweeted 16 times by others who followed my followers. So the interest is there for something new and exciting that Mariah will bring to the table.

Consider this. The Greatest Showman has only sold 1.2 million from physical, digital download and streaming equivalent sales and is the best selling album of the year and the second best selling album of the year George Ezra's Staying at Tamara's has only sold 435,000. Selling 50,000 in this day and age is the equivalent of selling 250,000 copies if the 90's.

Mariah sales (86,473)
by Ricardo Edwards from New Zealand
| |
|
|
Well I guess Mariah has moved into that era where people want to see her live and not really buy her records. 50,000 is a great number, but I do agree. She's Mariah freaking Carey and should be hitting above the 100,000 mark. It was disappointing with E=MC2. After Mimi, that album should've sold more than it did. Somethings happened, but I don't know what. Her celebrity hasn't faltered any, every week she's in the headlines for this or that. Just those record sales aren't anywhere near what they used to be for her.

Completely agree. Your comment about Cher was hilarious. I think there are many reasons why it's only 50.000. One is surely the disconnect not Mariah's age. I'm just happy that the horrible "management" from the last year is gone.

I don't understand the disconnect between Mariah and her fanbase. She delivers her best album in years and they don't buy it. It performed better than expected which is promising but I was hoping it would do even better. I think word of mouth and the reviews will keep the album the charts for a few weeks and if she does do a remix of A No No with Cardi B and Lil Kim it will be the song that will sell the album. Plus, people buying tickets to her tour should also help keep the album on the charts. It was only projected to sell 40,000-44,000 copies. MIAM sold 58,000 copies in its first week so Caution selling 50,000 after everything that's happened in the last four years is impressive considering how far her star has fallen in the last four years. Unlike MIAM I think Caution has more commercial potential.

Due Sunday, Billboard's more authoritative data may differ slightly from that reported by Hits. As long as the numbers land in that ballpark, however, they should earn "Caution" a Top 5 position on the Billboard Top Album Sales (pure sales) and Billboard 200 (consumption) charts.

Great observation. Giving My Life was probably one of the first songs recorded. This is how I think the last 4 years went down in the studio from the first song recorded to the last song recorded. 1. GTFO 2. With You 3. Giving Me Life 4. The Distance 5. One Mo Gen Poo Bear Sessions in Spring 2018 6. 8th Grade 7. Runway 8. A No No 9. Portrait 10. Stay Long Love You 11. Caution

Man I hate to be kill joy but I'm hearing Caution only sold 50,000 copies in the first week. That's exceeding expectations? Really? No that is hella bleak. Then you have fans buying and streaming multiple times so even them numbers are inflated. Dang, Janet Jackson and Cher were able to sell over 100,000 in their first week. Don't get me wrong I think this role out has been nothing short of perfection and the album reviews are glowing however there is huge disconnect between Mariah and alot of people who say that they are her fans when it comes buying her albums. If Cher, who is dang near 100 years old, can pull 100-130,000 in first week sales then dang it Mariah should be able to do so as well.

I used to do the same thing last week until I just focused on the chorus during an accidental play after 8th Grade. And just last night, I heard the short breakdown towards the end of the song. It really is a feel good song as MC said. It could be one of songs she chooses for the Caution World Tour set list because it doesn't have a lot of key changes. She better perform Giving Me Life as the opener. I love this song now. We need a mashup with The Roof. It is definitely The Roof Part 2.

What are the sales figures? More importantly, how far away is it from the 66 million copies some here were predicting it to sell (equalling Michael Jackson’s Thriller was the prediction, if you recall). Caution is a great album but let’s be realistic.

Rumour alert (86,461)

Mariah has re-recorded some vocals for the A No No remix and it will be released next month. This remix has to materialise if Caution is to have any legs. I'm glad she had the commercial foresight to add Cardi B into the mix along with Lil Kim (if it is indeed in the works). They could have an amazing girl power moment with it like she did with Missy and Da Brat on the Heartbreaker remix. Hopefully they can line up a big video before her Christmas tour starts, if the label supports it. Don't know if anyone caught one of the recent radio clips of her saying that she's lucky if the studio has the budget for anything more than iPhone video these days. Either way something is coming for sure, with all the studio videos she's posted on her instagram.

Same here. I only buy physical albums. I want the album notes, the stories behind the album, the pics, the lyrics. I want to listen to it as the artist perceived it. I even love the wait to go and get it. Something to look forward to. No doubt at some point I will have to go to downloads, but I reckon I've got awhile yet and I'm going to buy everything I can so I have a bank of music for when I can't get the CDs anymore.

I suspect part of the reason GTFO was chosen as the "buzz" single is that, due to the bad language, it could never get radio play, so they couldn't be accused of dropping it if it didn't perform. It could never be an actual single, so there is logic in using it as they did, even if it didn't come off that well.

You can correct square brackets to parentheses where it is not even grammatically appropriate to do so but you can't correct "ouy" to "out"? Eric, honey. You may correct my spelling mistakes. But don't correct my English grammar.
