I feel ashamed (86,758)
by MC1989 from Spain

First of all, she sounds great in her first Christmas show. Vocals on point. This being said, if Mariah wants to be taken seriously she should burn those horrible carnival wings and the even more terrible and awful Halloween costume she wears in AIWFCIY, the "take a look at my vagina" moment. What in hell was she thinking with those wings on? She looked ridiculous. The most tacky thing I've seen in a long time. Maybe it was a joke and I didn't get it. Really, this is scary. She really has no sense of ridicule. It's like if her team don't want her to succeed. Is Stella back or what? They didn't even change the song list. All the outfits look so tacky. Even the red one looks like a robe to walk around the house. I just don't get it, don't understand it. I love drag queens, I'm gay and I enjoy that way of art. But I think people are not going to the concerts to see a cheap drag show. Ir you're going to go that way, learn from RuPaul Drags Race. And if you want to put on a festive extravaganza show, with costumes etc, study Cher's extravaganza shows, and damn, hire the correct people.

In Texas once they reach a certain age or weight they no longer have to be in a booster, but they still have to be in a seatbelt. It could be different in New York. That's why although I believe they should have been belted, I don't think the situation deserved all this attention because unless you live in New York or you've looked up the law, we have no idea if it actually was the wrong thing to do. I think Roc would be the one to climb on top of the hood on his own. I can see it clearly. Lol.

You got it. I think Giving Me Life knocked One Mo' Gen to #2 but now 8th Grade is creeping up. Lol, before long The Distance will be #10 in my ranking.

Does anyone else think that 8th Grade sounds like an unfinished song/track that Timbaland was working on for Aaliyah and decided to give it to Mariah because he knew she could do it justice? Giving Me Life, 8th Grade, and Caution are my favorites and I think they should be singles because they're not typical Mariah Carey songs/singles. Giving Me Life needs an amazing video featuring Eddie Murphy as his character from Trading Places. 8th Grade needs an Always Be My Baby video treatment about a dramatic 8th Grade relationship with Mariah either not appearing at all or if she does as the grown up protagonist reminiscing about her 8th Grade first love while walking the halls of her former middle school. Caution should be similar to GTFO but with a story line.

I though once the child reached a certain age or weighed a certain amount they didn't jave to use a booster seat or a seat belt in the back seat. I guess laws differ from state to state. At least Mariah didn't leave Roc on top of her SVU or drive with him on her lap like Britney did, lol.

Does it say which version of Butterfly they sampled? Runway is one of my favorites. It's an empowering anthem and only a legend of Mariah's caliber can sample herself and make it work.

I've been humming this song all night. I think 8th Grade is slowly replacing One Mo Gen as my #2 most loved song on Caution. This makes me want more from Mariah and Timbaland. I've always loved him, but I wasn't sure how this combination would work. I'm impressed.

Darkchild has been pretty much recycling beats since he tapped out of creative ideas after Michael's Invincible and Brandy's Full Moon (both the best display of his work). That's why Brandy decided to work with Timbaland for her next album Afrodisiac because she felt that the perfect modern R&B sound Rodney created for her in Never Say Never was given to other artists that he produced for around the time (more notably JLo's If You Had My Love, Toni's He Wasn't Man Enough, some of Whitney's My Love Is Your Love and most of the Spice Girls' Forever album, among others). His last decent work was on Janet's Discipline. Which is why I was quite surprised he had it in him to produce something like The Art of Letting Go. Not like that was a masterpiece or anything, but at least he tried to do something different.

Concert in Stavanger, Norway (86,750)
by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
| |
|
|
I sadly couldn't go to the concert, but Mariah gets rave reviews from the newspaper in Stavanger and in one of the national newspapers in Norway. In the most read newspaper, VG, she gets a 3/6, but the review is mostly positive. The American way of celebrating Christmas is over the top compared to the Norwegian way, and that seems to be what the reviewers comment on. For a Norwegian, it's too messy, but for a lamb, it's just perfect.

Trilogy (86,749)

"Giving Me Life" is awesomeness as has been said plenty here already, but I'm surprised that people forget that the "original" sequel to "The Roof" was "Lullaby". So, now we have a real untouchable trilogy, an aspect of Mariah's musicianship that I wish she goes deeper into in the future.

Caution deluxe (86,748)

Hey guys. So I am still loving the Caution album. But I recently got creative lol and added "I don't" to the mix and it fit so well within the end of the album with Runway. I love it. I wish that song had gotten more shine. The video was ehh but the song wasn't bad at all. It was actually a bop. I've played it at parties and people love it especially since it samples such a dope song by Donell Jones. You guys should try it.

Caution: a track a day (6 of 7) (86,744)
by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
| |
|
|
Portrait It has been a long time since Mariah came up with a proper full-length introspective track (Languishing was wasted as an interlude). Overall, this is probably the closest she has come to recreating her 90s sound - no staccato singing, simple chord progression, and an uncomplicated melody that's easy to follow.
It is this decade's Looking In, Petals, Languishing and Outside all rolled into one. She stays restrained for the entire song save for the last minute, when she goes off and her voice reveals just how much it has changed over the years.
In case Cry. and Camouflage didn't convince you enough the last time, Portrait proves that Mariah still has it in her to write poetically like she did in the 90s. It's worth mentioning just how cinematic the entire track feels down to its instrumentation in the end. This is one of those tracks that fans probably won't talk and rave about as much in the future, but that's only because they'd rather keep it close to their heart.
It's quite remarkable how an orchestral track like this can perfectly close out a modern R&B collection of disparate styles. Mariah rarely misses the mark, but Portrait further shows that when she really gets it, she's untouchable.

The Gentle Return of Mariah Carey (86,743)
by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
| |
|
|
So I came across this podcast hosted by Jon Caramanica, a critic of The New York Times. He is joined by three other music writers and together, within the hour long session, they discuss Mariah's return to music. At about 35 minutes, they start to veer towards the changes in current R&B and hip hop and how different those genres are now to how they were then. They often go off on tangents but please listen until the end as they eventually get back to Mariah and even compare her career trajectory favorably to that of Usher, which I know doesn't make sense when you read it, but I swear they do make a very good and valid point.
Here are a few salient points: 1. Mariah 1997 onwards has always been unapologetically her. She has been her own artist and has never really sold out to follow trends.
2. The industry has changed so much, including the R&B and hip hop genres. Mariah has been able to move with the times gracefully.
As fans on this messageboard, we tend to be confined in this little bubble. Sometimes, we need points of view from other people who are not necessarily Mariah superfans to gain another layer of respect for this incredible woman who, at 48, still manages to kick ass with her material. Such a rarity indeed.

Runway (86,742)

I received my Japanese version of Caution today. Sounds so much better on CD than the mp3 version. Thank you Edward for the mp3 version but clarity is sound good coming from Panasonic speakers. We need Runway remixes for U.S. Lambs like right now. It would be number one on the dance charts. Anybody noticed that Mariah is credited as the only producer? Runway joining Melt Away for the only producer credit.

I'm not going this year, I went last year and I've got other stuff to be buying at the moment. If it was a full tour I'd defo be going but while it's an Christmas one I've decided to give it a miss this year. I feel like a bad fan as been to every other UK concert but there comes a time when you have to prioritise things. And I can't see the show being much different to last year's.

Lol I agree there shouldn't be all this hoopla over the situation, but they definitely needed to be in seat belts. I don't know about New York, but in Texas it's against the law. She doesn't get a pass because I love her music. Lol.

How funny. We must have the same feed. I listened to that earlier and realised that the extended outtakes are cut and paste. Cant figure out what is genuine and what is fan made. Either way, the "ooh yeah" transports me to a time when Mariah's voice was just magical. Before One Mo Gen shite.

Really? People are shaming her because her kids weren't wearing seat belts in the backseat? I never wore a seatbelt in the backseat and even rode in the pack of a pickup truck, lol. These people need to get a grip. It's not that deep.
