Big announcement day (85,177) by Sheila from United States
I think it's either a new video or the Beacon shows.

Caution / news (85,176) by Ethan from United States
I've been listening to MIAMTEC to get all hyped up for Caution. It is interesting to listen to the entire album since a while. I have to say it's a solid piece of work. It was unfortunately that it was delayed so many times within a year plus apart. I'd only hope she could have taken Thirsty, Camouflage, One More Try (as a bonus track), and Money out. Then it'd be a coherently produced album. I can't wait for the big news announcement. Maybe I was right about the Caution tour (better be like Charmbracelet with a well thought concept). Perhaps a double album (duet/featured artist)? Singing America The Beautiful at the Super Bowl?

Re: I'm in heaven (85,165) (85,175) by 123 from USA
I'm pleasantly surprised by her deciding to do a contemporary pop record. She's always stayed r&b once she got artistic freedom other than Almost Home (which did nothing for me). I actually like that she is trying new sounds and co writers. There is a lot of moving parts to this song even though the beat is spare yet it all works. The simplistic hook (very non Mariah the hook queen) actually works here where the same approach on With You's hook left me underwhelmed. I like that she is strategically releasing multiple songs from the album with only one being an actual single. It brings light to songs that would have never got the light of day like any others on previous albums. I hope it gets a video, even if it's just beauty shots as long as it's well done like the last two videos. Her albums are the type where a video for every song and a innovate way to release them to the public as their own events helps bring interest to the album.

Re: Heartbreaker (85,145) (85,174) by 123 from USA
So she's bashed when she lip syncs because she should just sing live and adjust the song to her current vocals and the moment the not only pulls back on the pre record and actually attempts the original notes she's bashed for sounding strained. Then again, any of her failures or ability to meet peoples expectations is just fodder for people to troll and make visceral statements for likes.

Re: Big news (85,169) (85,173) by Shezz from Pk
Has to be a tour. What else is there left to announce? It feels like she has been touring a lot already so this really won't be news per se.

The Distance (85,172) by B from USA
The Distance is everything I've been begging for and I love it. Re: New sound (67,220) by B from USA (Thursday 13 October 2016; 1:35). I hope she works with Calvin Harris or Skillarex. I want to hear her sing over a current beat. I imagine it would sound like an updated version of her collaborations with C+C Music Factory and David Morales. I wish she'd remix Meterotie with resung vocals with Morales and release it to tide us over until the new album or single is released. Or the unreleased #Beautiful remix. She likes the work they did on Butterfly. I'd argue she also likes their work on Emotions and Daydream as well.

It might just be the announcement of this year's Beacon shows. We'll have to wait and see.

Asian shows (85,170) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
Like someone else has mentioned here before, maybe it's the humidity in Asia, but Mariah almost always sounds her best when she's touring in the Orient. I mean a lot of it is still strained and shouty, but at least her tone is not nearly as dry and grating as it was during her Vegas shows, probably due to the drier, harsher weather in there. Her transitions are now smoother, her falsetto richer and her overall tone much more pleasant. Or who knows, it may also be the upcoming holidays or album release that got her excited to push harder and even attempt notes we have come to expect her to avoid over the years, especially on Emotions, Always Be My Baby, Make It Happen, My All, etc. Plus she sings the verses of With You in full voice you guys, and it's actually a good performance which makes you even madder that she had to lip the entire thing at the AMAs. Check out her videos in Taipei and Macau.
And it's nice to know the fandom is still quite strong on social media and media sharing sites. I don't know of any artist whose every live performance is documented by a vocal highlights video reliably within a few days (hours, even). Really appreciate them lambs who do it all out of love.

I am hoping for a Caution tour, small venues, no more Vegas lol.

A bit like Britney's announcement of an announcement. The element of surprise I'd all buy lost on PR people. Beyonce got it. One of the few.

I'm in heaven (85,165) by Special K from USA
I was able to finally listen to The Distance. Wow, I am on cloud nine right now. I can't express how much I love this song. Now, this is the classic, contemporary Mariah Carey song I have been waiting for. I can't get enough. I am so happy that Ty Dolla $ign is on this song. He is perfect. I get it. Now I get the strategy of releasing GFTO, With You, and The Distance in that sequence. Ok. Well cheers to Mariah and her team for doing something creative and different. I am now officially hyped to buy this album. They really need to push The Distance. That song has the potential to be a huge hit.

Re: Realize (85,155) (85,164) by Tijl from Belgium
It seems the current Mariah only wants to create the music she feels and enjoys herself. That is okay. There is nothing left to prove. She started out as a rather MOR and highly commercialized artist evolving into an artist on her own terms. Kate Bush has been doing this ever since her career started by staying true to herself and writing exactly and only what she connects with. If this is the way Mariah wants to continue than that is okay. With or without spectacular chart numbers if not any new #1 hit songs. Her latest work feels very close to where she is now in her live.

Re: The Distance (85,160) (85,163) by Timothy from USA
Qhm, I am so glad you said that because from reading so many of the critiques over the last couple days a lot of the group was pointing out their dislike for the chant as if they don’t listen to popular music anymore to know that the random audio file is standard and almost required now. I think that the producer probably wanted to do something even more random and she steered it to something she thought her fans would be more familiar with because of the last time she did it in UOMF.

Re: Updating the stats (85,159) (85,162) by Timothy from USA
You know, I saw those new stats in that post and I think that they are intentionally ambiguous. As someone who reads Billboard, I like to think that stats never catch me off guard but that one... It almost seems like they are defining a unit as a individual track or they are counting all individual merchandise sales from various eras and licensed products.

Either way, for a decade now, her, Madonna, Celine and MJ's estate have all tried various ways to outdo one another in stats through sometimes sketchy calculations. I just don't think this is the right way to go when so much is going right to start this era and part of the reason Mariah became so unrelatable to the general public was because of all of those sales montages before "less than ideal" performances. People need a reason to root for you and the average person is not going to take their hard earned money to keep you on a perceived mountain top.

I hope Roc Nation has her play the underdog more as that is what people like to get behind now.

The Distance (85,160) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
It is trendy these days to incorporate the most random and weirdest samples for no particular reason in any production, if only to up its quirk factor. However, despite its ubiquity, it is still considered a risk as the results way elicit reactions that vary from sheer genius to indifference to bewilderment to irritation and even rage. The chanting that kicks off the song comes off puzzling at first, but as it ends with the same sample you'll realize that the chant actually flows with the beat of the whole thing. For most, that won't be enough to justify its usage, but at least it somehow makes sense. As for the beat, it's one of the best we've had on a Mariah track in a very long time. It truly knocks. Coupled with the atmospheric synth backdrop and you have a very cool groove, which is rare in the Mariah-verse, where most textures are plush, velvety and warm. The Distance also features the best input from a collaborator since Miguel. Just like Rihanna and Britney, Mariah has a way of enunciating certain words to add some flair and personality and gets away with it. Her "laughs" and "life" in the chorus pique interest. Overall it's a good track that recalls the urban excellence of the Thank God I Found You remix.

Updating the stats (85,159) by Will from England
Well done to the new team for getting on this and finally updating her numbers. 1.6 Billion unit sales in Asia Pacific? Looking forward to hearing the rest of the updates.

Mariah’s Europe Insta story (85,158) by automatic_prince from Germany
You know the way she has a couple of stories saved in her Insta profile? She has one for the Asian tour and one for Caution and so on. Well I just noticed she had one for the European tour but now it's gone. I hope that's not a bad sign. I really hope she's not planning to cancel the European tour if the album turns out to be a success.

The Distance (85,157) by anonymous from UK
I've waited a while with this one, because at first I didn't have a clue what was going on with this song haha. GTFO, I was just hypnotised from first listen, and I listened to it quite literally about 15 times on repeat without realising. When I say hypnotised, I mean it. Then With You, which I just fell in love with practically straight away. Then we have The Distanace. After a few days, this song has really grown on me, and I can say (yes I'm going to say), I love it. As others have said, it's one of the first songs in a long time with a featured artist that doesn't feel tacked on or "just for the hell of it". One thing about it though, it does give me true high summer vibes, and with it turning rapidly colder in the UK, my dream of being at the beach or in the garden chilling to this song are sadly going to have to wait. Or, you know, I could just hop on a plane bound for Miami haha.

Two fears (85,156) by Critter from USA
Even though I am supposed to be grateful of new music and not care about radio play and whatnot, for some reason, I am afraid of the following two things:
1. M sitting on The Distance, a gem like she did with Migrate.
2. M putting out a turn-off video, like she did with You're Mine.
Keeping my fingers crossed neither would happen.

Re: Realize (85,150) (85,155) by Shezz from Pk
You are absolutely right. She has truly come a long way from her dark years and you can she has been putting in the work. I think most of us were expecting Caution to become her next TEOM but I really don't think that's realistic now.
People talk about Cher getting one of her biggest hits in her 50s with Believe but then that was also in the 90s when the landscape of the music industry was very different, still open and accepting of older artists.
The question is does she really need to follow current music trends and produce more of the regular fast food like fodder? Other than following the current trends I think it is also due to the fact that she has evolved and changed as an artist (for better or for worse). I'm just glad I can still enjoy her for who and what she is now but I'll always want her to do even better.

The Distance (85,154) by Licia from USA
I'm really enjoying this song. I'm enjoying it so much people in my house are giving me the stink eye. I don't care though. I just turn it up louder everytime they look my way. It's been awhile since I have really liked a Mariah song that much to annoy the people around me.

The lower register era (85,153) by Matthew from USA
I'll be the first to say her lower register is not my favorite, but it seems like she's been really experimenting and exploring her lower register this era. All three songs have deep, dark notes. I've not seen her utilize this dark side this much before. It's just a few adlibs in GTFO. Then she is pretty low for much of WY, which I felt needed to take off a little before the end, but it does get stuck in your head. The Distance does something I thought was impossible. It proved she could have a hit singing mostly in that lower register which is not your standard pop star register. But The Distance is a legitimate bop, especially if you like R&B. So yeah, the dark notes era. I'm starting to get into it. If her vocal delivery has changed, her pen game is as sharp as ever. All three songs have ear-worm hooks. Regardless of how I feel about each of the 3 singles, I do find myself humming them. Only YDKWTD, from her last album had that kind of ear-worm hook. So yeah, just wanted to pipe in on my cautious optimism so far. Instead of holding her to some previous standard, I'm going to see how far she experiments with the lower dark notes and I'm interested to see how commercial she can make that sound. Mimi's going dark y'all. Caution.
