Well sweet Tracey that's the problem, Mariah doesn't care, she doesn't care about anything anymore. She just goes on stage, gets her check and goes back to her Dom Peri in Mimiland with all the human-hangers she calls friends but we know they are paypals. She needs to care again. I don't buy the "fragile" bs image, she is insecure yes, but she could go through a lot of things on her own. Somewhere along her career she has created this dependency to others, the woman who wanted to be free as a butterfly, she seems agoraphobic at times, never on her own. It's called growing up, she isn't really 12. I love her but her shows have been going downhills.

Yes, Bryan is a hanger, good grief, they mutually use each other's arms, she; the Bryan-hanger, he; the human cane. This is so ridiculous already. The clan of witches are nowhere to be seen at least. Supposedly Stella fired Anthony, could possible be because he was starting to show more manager material than she is? No wonder why Bryhanger continues to be around, he does nothing but play the fiddle. He just wants his 15 minutes and money.

Lol at her using people as walking crutches. If you can't walk in them, you most definitely shouldn't wear them. This is why people think she's constantly drunk/medicated.

She was so nervous it was painfully obvious. I was hoping that she would relax and loosen up when Ma$e came out like she did on Jimmy Kimmel when YG came back onstage but she didn't.

Scared for life (78,502)
by Tyler from USA

I really think the tree lighting and NYE performances have ruined her chances to feel comfortable on TV. She is super insecure and I can only imagine the toll those two events did to her confidence. She looked so nervous at the VH1 Hip Hop awards and I wanted to just give her the biggest hug. She literally has the world critiquing every little thing she does. Not just causal viewers but even fans are sitting her waiting for her to mess up to throw it in her face. Can you imagine having all that pressure plus recently being ridiculed by the world over NYE and a recent YouTube dance video? Yes, she could've moved more but I think those passed experience have ruined her ability to take chances and break out on tv and even live. I honestly think she didn't move because she was so nervous to mess up. If she started dancing and was off beat people would run with that. She can't win and it's very sad. She is to blame but I really think the generally public does not want to see her succeed and she knows that. I can not imagine having all that negative weight and going on stage with confident.

Shyness vs present day (78,501)
by Jamie from UK
| |

I've been watching old Mariah live performances. I know she's not 20 anymore but some of her early performances even upto 2008 she still had stage presence. Her early years wear always dogged with shyness but looking back now she was as confident as ever. Her voice was impeccable and she new that, and although she was shy on stage her voice shone through. She had that quirkiness that gave her that edge. I would love present day Mariah to learn from her early performances and just let go and not be so caught up in how she looks. Be the person everyone fell in love with again, be humble and grateful for what you have. I know people change and evolve over the years but it's important to stay grounded to who you are and where you came from. Surely there must be that part of Mariah still alive, that person who took your breath away, and who could command the stage. Mariah if you're reading this, I get you've changed and I've embraced it, but take control of your emotions again, command that stage again. Don't be afraid to stand out there and shine again. The young girl who touched our hearts is still there, just don't get caught up in all the hype, ground yourself and deliver the Mariah we love.

Is it time? (78,499)
by Edward from USA
| |

I was reading some of the comments here and the logic behind them. Some very well thought out comments state that since Mariah is nearly 50 she should get "I don't want to move my ass two steps because I'm drunk" pass. According to that logic Madonna should be drag on wheelchair on stage then since she's nearly 60. Mariah is a millionaire, if she has decided to be stiff and not give two f's about performing, I think it is time for her to invest in her very own decorated hovearound. Yes, she needs an electric chair she could move around on stage saying two and a half darhlings here and there, since she's too old, two complete utterances of the word dahling might be taxing on her joints and vocal chords. I think Mariah should produce and write for other people, her career has turned into a joke. I remember when being her fan was something to be proud of. I'm a fan, but I don't dare saying it in public. Those days of being a proud fan are long gone.

Lol he did his job of being a mucker upper very well on NYE. It was hilarious to see him smiling and doing his wack dance steps while Mimi flopped and fizzled right in front of our eyes. He slithered his way in by being a sycophant. At least now we no longer have five men hefting her up by holding her butt, or even on that couch anymore. Now there is just him hefting up her whole thigh for the epic diva twirl.

Mariah did indeed move during the Hero video, and what a great timeless video it was. She was swaying in time with the rhythm of the song, she made big swooping hand gestures to drive home the emotion and the lyrics, she threw her head back at the crescendo, it was probably as choreographed as any ballet, but it came off as natural and confident and elegant. She was able to walk up to the microphone unaided and gave her beautiful, graceful performance. All her ballad performances from the 90s followed the format and were a joy to watch. They emphasised her incredible vocal talents and didn't detract from the song but also gave some flair and flourishes where necessary. You cannot compare that horrific Honey performance to the Hero video, end of.

Some don't understand the job of a PR prop boyfriend. Telling the truth and getting the person help is not a part of the job description and is actually a hindrance to their 15 minutes of non fame.

Great post, yiorgos. I completely feel and think the same with everything you said. I can only imagine how hard it is for a sensitive person to stay in that business so long. The fame, the fake people, the high expectations because she's is the one and only Mariah Carey. Like you said I hope she finds happiness again and something new where she can live her creativity and talent. I'm very thankful for all she's given us since '90 as well. She almost feels like a "friend" that's why I care so much of her as a person not only the singer. And so many great singers and entertainers has fallen so hard, it's enough.
