Skydiving or Memoirs isn't Mariah at her storytelling best. I'd suggest Petals or Close My Eyes. Of the Memoirs album her best storytelling song is Betcha Gon' Know.

Your message reminded me that I need Mariah's Rainbow and Glitter albums to complete my collection. Someone stole both. Hard to believe out of every album of Mariah's they chose those two. Different strokes for different folks.

Katy is now a has been so is Rhianna. Katy's album and its singles are flopping. Rhianna only scored one #1 off of her last album after releasing a string of singles that were deemed failures because chart wise if it's not a #1 it's a flop (how she managed to amass all those #1's is obvious but I digress). Bey doesn't make much impact on the Hot 100 except for the first few weeks of her album release and hasn't had a #1 in year. None of them have sold anywhere near what Mariah was selling at the same stages in her career. Besides Rhianna and Bey's sales figures are bought. Rhi's by a cellar company and Bey's and husbands streaming service. Most of their figures are album equivalents. Adele is the only artist that is on Mariah's level and she only scored one #1 single and her latest album although huge it wasn't bigger than her previous album. Will she be able to do it again is the real question. Hello carried that album. I thought When We Were Young was going to be another #1 but it stalled in the 20's. Let me clarify Rhianna and Beyonce aren't irrelevant culturally but they're no longer relevant musically. Unless you're a member of the Navy or Beehive. I used to love both but I don't hookless songs without melodies. Beyonce's 7/11 was the only song I've liked Beyonce's since Halo. I forgot about Taylor Swift she's second only to Adele and she racked up a few #1's and has won the Album of Year Grammy twice. Rhianna most sets trends these days (most are just mixing today's looks with looks from the 90's and having an IDGAF attitude).

Pride collection: fan reactions (76,336)
by Laury from Spain

I love it. It's so fun and cute. Wish fans would back up this a bit more but the fanbase is so [censored] that now they criticize the shipping date of the merch. Really? Can't you find anything else to comment on? "Pride" should be celebrated every day so why is the shipping date so important? Being a lamb is hard work.

How dare you not include size 2XL for the clothing you're selling for Pride? Or even 3XL for your even heftier lambs or bulls.

I was taken a back by the shipping date too. Pride is over by then, at least where I live. Still, it's cute and not the tacky hot mess that is so easy for them to defer to so I guess I'll just focus on that part.

Re: Forbes (76,319) (76,333)
by Lila from United States

That's the point. If they're not exact figures, with concrete evidence to back up the claim, then they are not what the the celebrity made. Gross sales of tours are not how much the celebrity personally took home in pay. Live Nation reveals the gross sale not how much Madonna personally made from the tour, which is their right to do. Other promoters do the same. However, I will concede that common sense says that a smart celeb will make a bigger piece of the pie the better the tours does. Forbes World's Highest Paid Celebrity List takes into account what they believe a celebrity made in the last 12 months and it's not just singers but all types of entertainers internationally. A lot of these figures are grossly overstated but they did pick people who common sense says make a lot of money due to their current occupations and occupation success. 10 of the 22 European SSFT shows, which made up the majority of the tour, Mariah did while overseas did have the gross sales released. Those 10 shows, only one short of half the leg, totaled somewhat over $4M. If that's anything to go by, the rest of those dates were not going to be able to pull gross sales to staggering heights, nor Mariah's personal cut to help her onto that list. Gross sales for Vegas February 2016, given through Billboard, was $4,532,760. She still made a lot of money but the gross sales nor her slice of the pie from it was going to be enough to compete with the celebrities Forbes chose. Whatever she made from MAC was not going to be enough to pull her up either. Last I checked, the Foreign Earned Income Exclusion was around the $100,000K mark. Anything over that is taxed. So, I'll correct myself, she is exempt but only up to that mark. However, for someone, like Mariah, who could possibly make a high 6- to 7-figures a concert or private or public performance, once income is totaled that isn't much of a tax break. Foreign Earned Income Exclusion is not a free for all. Military personnel's paychecks are not considered foreign income. Why would they be when they don't work for a foreign entity but the US government? So, no they cannot claim Foreign Earned Income Exclusion. Again, Nick didn't blab anything. Other media outlets were reporting that $18M figure before the show started filming, all claiming sources from those close to American Idol; such as HuffPost, Entertainment Weekly, and TMZ. If Nick had "blabbed," why wouldn't they just use him as a source. Could you link a source for your source and ones for Brittany and J.Lo's announcements of their Vegas salaries? If they seriously announced that, and not in a joking manner, then I'll concede but I doubt it.

Mariah Pride (76,332)

Cute, and it makes sense, but once again Mariah & Co are behind schedule. All orders wouldn't ship until July, and by then Pride month and most Pride marches are over. Also was hoping for a little variation/re-imagining of the iconic Rainbow cover, but for those of us who weren't old enough at the time get to cop some Rainbow era merch.

That's my favorite "Memoirs " song easily. And it didn't even make the cut. Lol. Mariah Carey at her story telling best (all caps) and the fact that it seems longer than it actually is. There's a lot of emotions on that song. But the sadness and longing when she wails in the background gets me everytime.

I love the Pride tanks. Funny story, I tried to get the exact same style white, Mariah facing head-on, tank made for myself last year for Pride in Vancouver and Ottawa and the printing shops in both cities couldn't do it because of legalities and copyright infringement. So happy to get my wish this Pride season.

Money. Money corrupts people. When she was able to make a lot of it just doing music she did. When her numbers started dwindeling and record sales in general started becoming a thing of the past she had to reinvent herself to keep chasing the coin. It's a shame because if she would've retired after TEOM her legacy would be solid. (Even if she retired right after MCIIY and having children it wouldn't have been as bad as it is now.) The first 15-20 years of Mariah were absolutely perfect.

MC1989 every word you said I feel and think the same way. It's nice to know that I'm not the only one. This comment "Mariah is very talented, but she has fallen into a fashion that she had criticized so much in the past" is so true. And yes it's sad. I wonder what happened in 2008 that the change was so extreme. I miss the mysterious aura so much as well.

Search her. She's really one of a kind. To me, she's like the female version of David Bowie. And no, no relation to the Bush family haha. There was a rumour that supposedly she's a tory (a supportive of the Conservative Party) but that would be the only connection between them in case it was true. I have a very eclectic taste in music so I was wondering if anybody else here listens to other genres and artists who are totally different from Mariah. Nice to see the answers. In my opinion, until 2008 -more or less -, Mariah kept this reserved image. During the 90's and the early 00's she hardly ever talked about her private life. We cared about what mattered: the music. Mariah used to be a very focused and hard working person so she made sure her career was based on her work as a singer and a songwriter. She preserved this mysterious image that I miss so much nowadays. That's another reason why I thought about Kate Bush as a polar opposite to Mariah. Kate is a musical genious who hardly ever gives interviews and she rarely shows up in public but she maintains that legendary status, and her influence on recorded music has been huge - it's difficult to image Tori Amos, Björk, and even Madonna without her. People go mad each time she appears in public. There are also people like Stevie Nicks or Sade who keep a mysterious aura and maybe it takes a long time for them to release an album but when they do it you feel it was worthwile waiting. Mariah's media exposure and her recent projects (cosmetic line, fragrances, drink line , reality show, etc.) have broken this idea of "music first". It's not just that the musical quality has gone downhill, but also the way she carries herself as a public figure has gotten worse (staged relationships, constant wardrobe malfunctions, more frequent bad performances). Nowadays pop music is more about the persona than the artistry. Most singers these days are unoriginal attention whores seemingly lacking any discernable talent. Mariah is very talented, but she has fallen into a fashion that she had critizised so much in the past.

I agree with Madonna during the early 90's as well. Btw, Madonna has praised Mariah and vice versa. I need a duet from them, not many legends left. I guess I need to YouTube Kate Bush. Heard the name but I would have thought she was relative of Pres. Bush and co. Talent wise yes Katy Perry would be the complete opposite. Funny how she threw shade at Mariah saying she was "good for a throwback" in regards to who the biggest female artist is but then claimed to be a member of her Lambily when she went to her Vegas show. A select few get a shot at being the It Girl O'The Day, being compared to Michael and Mariah but poor thing is struggling now and blaming Taylor for sabotage because she released all her old music to streaming services the same day Katy's new album was dropped. Petty of TS, of course, but I think people aren't just feeling you this time around Kates. Meteorite indeed.

Ozzy. I don't know any female besides Madonna, Britney, and Gaga that haven't emulated or paid homage to Mariah. Sheryl Crow and the Lilth Fair lineup including Paula Cole carries themselves differently.

Yes, there are articles about how much these celebrities make, Lila. Nobody ever said they were exact figures. J.Lo went on several interviews to say how much she's making and that came straight from the horse's mouth. Promoters such as Live Nation do give out information on tour sales abroad for their artists and is a common practice. As I have already stated, Mariah used different people for each country she was in for back in the day. Tour gross are the numbers I was referring to which you can find from Madonna's people, Live Nation, and statements from publications for her concerts abroad. MC's have never been released from abroad in the US, but plenty have done so locally where she was touring by the people who promoted her in their native language. Yes, artists, military, and self-employed "gig" people do get exemptions from income and living taxes done overseas, Lila. It's called Foreign Earned Income Exceptions and has several other names and there were other perks throughout the years as well. Yes, Nick did blab it before anyone went around to call up AI for confirmations. People magazine was about 2 months late for that story.
