New artist Leah McFall (74,479)

I think some of the newer lambs would like her. There's no doubt Mariah influenced her vocal style (mainly in how she plays with her voice on record, using it as part of the background and production). But she's also found a way to change it enough to not get coping Mariah backlash. Listen to "Happy Human" and most of her covers are amazing listen to "Try Again" cover. She was on the voice and now went more independent.

Yes I have been saying this since forever, let someone else create for her. Would be cool to hear her reinterpret a standard or two as well.

Amen to that. If God really had favorites, you would be the one for that comment. It's not about anything other than putting the work and making sure that what the rapper's going to say makes sense and sounds coherent. Side Effects and #Beatuful with Jeezy rapping like he meant it are examples of great rap collabos. It doesn't have to be a hit, as long as the quality and work is there. Most of Mariah's quality work weren't hits, but you can always go back and appreciate the quality on "Underneath The Stars", "Vanishing", "Side Effects", etc. One horrible choice for a rapper was for the song "Where Do The Bells Ring for Me". Tony Bennett's rapping was not good at all.

She looks very pretty. I love Momriah. Less is definitely more. The kids are adorable as always. Roc looking like the toothless wonder boy lol. I don't like the article though. Why couldn't they just make the article about her enjoying time with her kids? Why does she have to be coping with a breakup? I get that drama sells, but sheesh they turned a cute moment into a heartbroken diva using her kids to get over Banaka Tanaka. Lol.

I agree with all you've said. Those collabos just worked. I also agree that not every song needs to be turned into a rap collabo and sometimes the added raps bring nothing to the song (it definitely wasn't needed on I Don't). Nor does every song need another artist period. Even with her vocal changes she's still able to carry a song by herself and I think that's what most of us want anyway. My whole point was don't down what she does now because she's not topping the charts like she did back then. This is the same formula she's been using for years. The formula has worked more times than not. The difference between now and then is that now she's just putting together crap to get people off her back rather than putting in the work and effort that she used to and make a great music.

Honestly I enjoy her rap collaborations but only when it adds to the song but not when it feels like its forced into it. Songs like "Heartbreaker" (both versions), "Fantasy remix", "Honey (both Bad Boy and So So Def remix)", YDKWTD, "HATEU" remix, UOOMF, "Triumphant" (yes I love it) and many others seamlessly blend the rap with the other verses. But the YG rap doesn't do that for me and don't get me started on Jussie's "rap". And it's just not rap collaborations but collaborations in general, I only like it when it blends in and adds to the song, not just for the sake of doing it. Like the BGK and IAW remixes.

That's a very good perception May. We know Mariah was seen reading a Joan Crawford book and often mentions watching Mommie Dearest not to mention how Joan was known for this glamour Hollywood diva role and we know what she went through with ageism as well as the other female actresses. I'd hate to think she knows it and tries to emulate her at all. We already know the fascination with Marilyn and Mariah. All these incredible talented actresses lived in these lonely worlds and had diamonds galore but battled their own demons behind their massive walls. Just hope MC can find the happiness she so deserves and maybe she saw that this Tanaka, billionaire's fiancé, reality star role whatever is not for her and that she really is all about the music. Come back Mariah. By the way, her recent picture looks great. She looks vibrant and yes we still have diamonds but her lady friends do look a little smaller so she may have lost a bit of weight.

26 years into her career, I don't think Mariah has anything to lose by letting someone else pen her a song. I mean by now everyone knows that this woman can write and produce mega hits and songs that are fun or songs that are deep. Her ability to write and produce is well proven and people who don't already know she writes and produce are people who wouldn't even bother knowing in the future, so ya she has nothing to prove and should just let it happen atleast for maybe 1-2 songs. I mean Michael Jackson is a huge star and even he didn't write many of his songs, but no one hated on him for that, Whitney Houston isn't a song writer (as far as I know, don't kill me if I'm wrong) yet no one would judge her so Mariah doesn't need to worry. In fact she might even enjoy it if she allows it. She can tell them to mix her style with theirs so that it blends seamlessly.

She could have done so much with the Donell Jones sample. I agree her lyrics for her verses and the way she sang them could have been better. I wouldn't change the chorus though. I find it really funny that many of the fans/lambs were cool with the rnb and rap collabos as long as the songs charted well. Now that they aren't a hit they want her to stop doing it. I can agree the constant rap combo mix can be a little tiring, but if done right she makes some pretty awesome songs. History proves that. Whether it be Hip hop, rnb, pop, or whatever genre (except for dance lol) I really don't care what she decides to do as long as it's good music and she puts in the effort and work to make it great. Honestly no matter what genre she sticks with, if she's not 100% committed to making the music great like she used to it's never going to come out right. That's why I miss the 90's work ethic. Nothing left the studio unless it was great.

Anything new (74,466)
by T from USA

Anything new from Mariah at this point will be welcomed. The last time(s) she's switched it up were Butterfly and TEOM. Other than that it's been a lot of the same old Mariah Carey. She needs to take this new album in a direction to change things drastically. (While maintaining who she is.) That can mean go completely neo soul new age R&B, or even "hardcore" A/C. Just something that is not expected and will turn people's heads again. I would even take EDM Mariah if that means she excites people again like she used to in the old days.

Mariah needs to duet with Ed Sheeran. There, I said it. I think his music is utterly boring and so his voice as well, but I believe together both could do a good ballad, a real good one.

This is how most people see and conclude, you aren't wrong. I always saw Mariah as the Joan Crawford of music, always wanting males as duets and not other female ones that were popular and the only ones she accepts are rappers. I was so blown that day she did the duet with Whitney because I didn't think Mariah would accept to duet with someone beautiful, young and with a powerful voice as hers. Amazingly, while that song is good and has two big weights of the music industry vocal wise, is not one of my favorite songs and probably one of those that I listen to the least. Weird, I know. The duets she chooses with non-rapper females are never for her albums, they are for live versions and are generally older. The Mary J. Blige collaboration was a let down and not a real duet. Why can't she just join Beyonce? Wouldn't it be crazy also if she stepped down from songwriting for a bit and sang someone's else music, would be too weird for her to sing a Sia song? Just think she needs some freshness. I love her voice but her penning seems to be stuck in RnB old school mode. I want something different. Even her first album has a lot of things that seem odd even for these days, like electric guitars. I feel she uses too much formula, playing it too safe. I liked I Don't, better than Infinity by miles but at the same time it felt dated. Need something different, something we wouldn't expect from her, that's why Emancipation was such an incredible hit I believe, it was different.

New collaborators / berhana (74,463)
by this_is_qhm from the Philippines

Now we all know by now that Mariah would rather collaborate with rappers (usually up-and-coming or on the C-list), and that if she were to collaborate with another female, it would be a rapper, or that if she were to duet with someone who isn't a rapper, it would be a male artist. (This aversion towards female collaborators is really killing her creativity and is also unintentionally bad for her image.) But as much as I love Mariah's blend of pop and R&B with hip-hop, if she were to work with a male artist, why not ditch the rapper obsession for a while and look for someone with some soul? Not sure if you have heard about berhana, but from what I know he's been out since 2015, he has an EP that's downloadable for free on his website, and his song Janet has the kind of retro-modern yet laid-back vibe that is missing from radio right now. Check him out. Me thinks he would sound great with Mariah. His harmonies are amazing.

Mariah and R&B (74,461)
by darrian liu from taiwan

Mariah needs a new direction. I say go with Daft Punk. Her signature R&B/Pop/Hip-hop sound would go together so well with Daft Punk's sound. They're still churning out hits that are actually good and they're much, much better than that basic ass, tired, repetitive duo The Chainsmokers. I've grown to dislike The Chainsmokers's songs so much, I'm mad at myself for suggesting Mariah to collab with them a few months ago.

"They just make sh*t up." It's sad that they quote "Mariah's rep" as saying this and I almost believe it because Stella curses like a trucker. In one interview she said sh*t three times. I hope LA or someone makes her see how her brand is being tarnished. A publicist should do damage control, not curse out the media a la Trump.

Mariah is respected in the industry. She's also respected outside of the lambily. Yes, people tore her down after the NYE debacle but they also love to build them back up. If she can make a comeback after the Glitter era she can bounce back from anything. The younger generation (below 20) are split evenly on Mariah, they either hate her because she was mean to Ariana and others discovered Mariah because Ariana covered Emotions and was constantly compared to her.
