Benny like Tommy has been around the block and knows how the game needs to be played. Handprint is run with military precision and he's not shy about expressing his opinion. He wouldn't bow down and be subsurvient. She is unmanagable and has been ever since she divorced Tommy. Every year she is more and more out of control. If you aren't an ass kissing, yes man, encouraging her vices and stoking her ego you won't last long.

I was hoping each episode of Mariah's World would've been about a tour stop and a performance and an activity in the town of the venue. Like the toy store in London she took dem babies to.

Billboard counted down Mariah's ten best videos on her anniversary. Here's the link. I'd add I Still Believe, Butterfly, and The Roof. I also don't agree with the order but it proves not all of her video are ridiculously bad.

The Art of Letting Go conversation (74,219)
by Edouard from France

I recently listened to TAOLG again. It doesn't appear on any album and I'm still very much attached to listening to music via my CD player. I like the realness of the CD format and experience. I must say that I have a new found appreciation for that song because it has become clear to me what Mariah tried to achieve with that song. I am now convinced it was meant to be the opening track of Me I Am Mariah... The Elusive Chanteuse album. It fits perfectly and it would have been great. I don't see where else it could have fitted in the tracklisting. It would have been a great opener, both musically and lyrically. Also I don't know if you remember the short promo clip of MIAM with the violins and orchestra. We can hear some of these sessions on TAOL as well as on Make It look Good. I believe these 2 songs where meant to appear back to back on the album. But the project evolved and I believe the label wanted to go with a more EDM sound. That could be the reason behind the instrumentation on You're Mine (Eternal) as well as the fact that it is reminiscent (though different) to We Belong Together. Also I think Mariah may have chosen to go with YME as a sing of trust that her relationship with Nick Cannon could become stronger again. I think she sacrificed the first direction she wanted to go with the album (releasing TAOL) in order to protect her marriage and family as well as singing into existence another chance at their relationship. TAOL is actually amazing. The instrumentation could have been stronger, especially on the second verse. The song takes too long to really kick in. That's the only thing that bothers me. The lyrics are great. Modern yet timeless and classy. The voice is strong and very early Mariah. Full voice. Straight vocals. Very English Pop RnB in my opinion. It reminds me of the song "Stop" on the Bridget Jones soundtrack (I believe it was a cover). Also, it's interesting to see how lately, some females singers have had success (more or less) with this type of songs that Mariah revived with TAOL: [...] Rihanna with Love on the Brain, etc. The promotion of TAOLG was disappointing. But the song is good, the live version are even better and reintroduced Mariah as the Mariah we first fell in love with (piano, background vocalists and all)although I must say I first fell in love with Hip Hop Mariah. TAOLG, I can't seem to let it go.

YME was such a missed opportunity, both the song and the video. The video has some of the most beautiful shots ever, with the gorgeous rain forest and the underwater scene and the possible "Little Mermaid" homage, but they kinda messed it up. The story line ultimately didn't end up making sense, also it was uncomfortable to watch Mariah cradling her breasts and looking uncomfortably at the camera haha. I wish they had some flashback scenes with Trey to show their romance.

I don't think the person meant that her "sexiness" is only acceptable when she is portraying a vulnerable person, in fact I don't know how you even came to that logic. The person clearly meant that when put in a proper story line, sexy scenes can be more tasteful, instead of doing straight up "Touching myself" vanity shots with no apparent story line. Case in point, Mariah was quite sexy in the ILT video yet it didn't look tacky because it was part of a story line, same for "Honey" (where she basically strips down to her undergarments) and yet it doesn't look tacky. DFAU is another video of her laying down in her undergarments, swimming naked in a pool, making out, yet it doesn't look tacky because it's part of a story line, the visuals add to the story the song is talking about. A more recent example may even be TMB. She doesn't have to appear "vulnerable" for it to be acceptable for her to do sexy scenes, like bliss said, it doesn't look as bad when the sexiness is balanced out with a proper story line instead of it being the only plot of the video.

Why should a woman's vulnerability be the only way for people to accept her sensuality and sexuality? Think about it.

Completely agree, the quality of her music videos have gone downhill. Look at videos like It's Like That and We Belong Together. There's almost a cinematic quality to them, and the decision to make them a two part story was brilliant. Her James Bond themed Honey is still one of her best videos to date. My All exemplifies Mariah's timeless and effortless sensuality. Touch My Body was playful. Heartbreaker is campy and iconic. Even Fantasy managed to capture the sweet summer nostalgia. Now you just get kind of sad, tacky videos that only show her writhing around barely clothed. Mariah is obviously still gorgeous and hot, but she has to know that less is more. I'm hoping for her next solo project that she brings back that element of sophistication and fun.

Never date a fan? Honestly I don't know anyone who isn't a fan of Mariah's music (maybe not her as a person, but Mariah's one of those artists where everyone loves at least 5 of her songs), so she'll always be forced to deal with that starstruck element. Even other people in the music industry are starstruck by her.

Completely agree. The video of "My all" is pure art. How I love that style of music videos. The black and white style, the little sweet story and Mariah looked so beautiful and sensual. I miss the good taste so much.

It was nice when Mariah had videos with storylines or symbolism that didn't have her sexuality/looks as the main focus. "My All" was extremely sexy, but still was able to portray her vulnerability, laying on a large conch shell while her lover appeared in a lighthouse. So much was being said with few resources. The problem is that now her videos are all about her looks and her assets. Very uncomfortable to watch and no strategy whatsoever.

Also ABMB ended up becoming one of her most popular songs in the US, still receiving regular airplay to this day. Daydream is always heavily represented on her compilation albums too so if anything it's the opposite and is arguably the peak of her career both in terms of success, vocals, and creativity.

I agree except for #Beautiful mv because even though it's a video full of beauty shots, she looked good there and doesn't came off as desperately trying to be sexy. I wish she will hire A-list directors that can up her visuals game and please leave directing to the professionals already. Fantasy mv worked because it was the 90s but those kind of visual doesn't work on this century anymore and her creative ideas are already questionable for a long time now so she really needs to invest on these things if she wants to make it work. If she wants to do something, make it great and prioritize it, not like her recent efforts where it was all undeniably half-baked. If she can't do that anymore, just don't do it because it really affects her reputation and credibility as an artist.

You do have a point. Although I believe her choice of performing ABMB over any other song from that era or album is not just because it's one of her favorties, but also because it's what she is most at ease performing, as the other singles are more vocally demanding/challenging.
