Re: Standard (72,898) (72,937)

My only standard for Mariah is for her to make the great music that I know she's capable of. I fell in love with her music and she hasn't been giving us her best music in my opinion. Yeah I talk about her clothes and her pushing the twins in our faces at inappropriate times, but at the end of the day I really don't care.

If she may feel like she's in a place that she doesn't know how to get out of why did she allow it to start? The negative leaks didn't start when the tour was announced. This has been going on for awhile and she's been in on the game from the beginning in my opinion. I don't believe that she's so oblivious to the outside world that she's just now seeing how much negative press she has been getting. She allowed a lot of this to happen.

I don't think people necessarily hold her to a different standard. We're basing our opinions on things she has said in the past. You can't say you believe in one thing, do the opposite and expect people not to scratch their heads and wonder what's going on. If Madonna did a video like "I Don't" - I probably wouldn't think anything of it because she has always been that way. Her material has been sexual in nature since the beginning of her career. Mariah hasn't always been the way she is now and that's why a lot of us are concerned. For instance - she speaks about her strong faith in God (which Nick confirmed), brags about her rule of no sex before marriage and being sexually innocent, yet she allowed nude bathtub photos to be posted for the public to see and televised herself emotionally cheating while engaged. It makes no sense.

This is a truly smart and well considered view on her and women in the pop business facing age. Also, I believe that if a younger female artist would have released "I don't" it would be a top 10 hit already.

Grammys (72,928)
by Tameka walker from United states
| |
|
|
I have seen some of what she said about the Grammys. My thoughts is if she has a great album and do the work she is capable of she could end up with the Grammys you never know. I doubt she would get album of the year because they never give it to r& b acts. I look at Emenem and how he dissed the Grammys and he still went on to win. So I do believe that if she puts out great music she can still be a Grammys darling. She needs to work with LA Reid and other people to make a great product. I do think that people holds Mariah to a different standard and that is just not fair. Other artists do the same thing and nothing is said. She is right she has to make like five million comebacks before she is accepted.

No because the very next set of photos showed her wearing her bra out and then a major plumber's crack moment when she sat down and her entire ass and underwear was visible. Not just a glimpse, the whole entire thing was completely out.

I can understand her being "stuck" and not knowing how to get out, but I can't understand why on earth would she ever willingly reshoot those MW scenes to make it look like she was cheating on Packer with Tanaka. She can't blame anyone for those but herself. She willingly went and shot those when they could have gone with any storyline. It's not like Packer said they can't use his footage either because his team denied it and he was even shown in some scenes. Them trying to rewrite and basically imply at the end that she broke up with James made her look like a liar and completely put her credibility on line even for fans because right after that I saw many people question whether she has "changed the narratives" of her previous break ups as well. Now no matter how much she says she hopes it was about the music and tour, it won't change anything. They said they had over 800 hours of footage from the original recordings yet they go on and reshoot stupid scenes.

Beyoncé (72,925)
by B from USA
| |
|
|
To put my comments about Beyoncé being phonie and not being from the ghetto in to context the town I live in is the second poorest in the state. Here's a link. I grew up in the projects raised by a single mother who did the best she could. I witnessed overdoses, blatant rascim and homophobia, and drive by shooting as a child. She just seems fake to me. The home she lived in while growing up is considered a mansion where I'm from.

Grammys (72,924)
by Manny from U.S.
| |
|
|
With all this discussion on the Mariah snub I wonder if some people know how the Grammys are chosen. I used to think the Grammys were out to get Mariah in 1996. But there is no Grammy panel deciding who wins the awards. The Recording Academy, which are a group of music industry people like engineers, musicians, and others who vote for them. I guess you can say they are awarded by their peers. I took some college music classes and my professor clarified all that. We had a discussion on Grammy snubs and many people thought there was a Grammy panel or judges. He said he was part of the academy and each year he voted.

Either Stella lied or DCP lied to save face. I'm leaning towards Stella because after the debacle she gave countless interviews. Or she could have seen it as her big break and blew it out of proportion (added gas to the fire) with her claims of sabotage knowing the media frenzy it was causing.

The Grammy's aren't the be all end all when it comes to the music industry. Billboard the industry bible has called the Grammy show uninspired and boring. Many more music publications and blogs have as well. Especially after Taylor Swift won Album of the Year for 1989 over To Pimp A Butterfly.

She was the odds on favorite to win Pop Vocal Album, both Female Vocal Performance awards, and Song and Record of the Year. They also always award the artist who leads in nominations and us used to promote the telecast. Mariah won three in 2006 but in 1996 she was shut out and the reason behind it was Tommy and her marriage to him. She didn't start gaining respect in the industry until she left Tommy.

Sad but true. However, I wouldn't say Beyonce is a better singer than Adele. Queen B can sing but I view her as an entertainer not a vocalist like Mariah and Whitney. Bey reminds me of Janet Jackson. I've only like one song by Beyonce since IASF 7/11. 4, Beyoncé, and Lemonade are overrated. I also find her phonie. She grew up in a middle class suburb. She isn't ghetto. To clarify Beyonce lived a privileged and sheltered upbringing. I've lived in the projects.

I disagree. While I agree Mariah was totally snubbed that year (I remember watching it, loved her green dress), Jagged Little Pill was much more complex in terms of songwriting and many people remember the hits the album spawned (You Oughta Know, Ironic, Hand in My Pocket, Head Over Feet, etc.). Personally, I agree that ABMB or Fantasy should've been recognized, but I do not think the snug was a racial issue. It more likely had more to do with Mariah receiving special treatment in Sony days including bigger budgets and promotion. Also, during this era, it should be noted that Mariah was often criticized for a lack of soul and being seemingly contrived. All of her hits were very formulaic, though I'm proud of her for pioneering the R&B/pop collabo with Fantasy. After the divorce, her music, IMO, became even better but less recognized. Butterfly is a beautiful album where she actually emotes and stops playing it so safe.

Maybe recent events and seeing how smoothly a tour can run when the artist has a capable manager has opened her eyes. Stella isn't capable of managing a superstar, she's barely able to manage her own personal life. This leak reeks of a cheap Chanel #5 knockoff and blush. Mariah is about to clean house again and Stella is going into spin mode. She'll say what JD said ie I had excellent ideas but Mariah refuses to take her career serioualy. She'll throw Mariah under the bus in an attempt to save face and show her true colors. Mariah would be wise to clean house and hire a manager with credentials and connections. She's reverted to refusing to talk about her personal life and gave two outstanding performances on Kimmel. Mariah's still in there she's just hidden by all the clutter (Russian leeches).

Also, it wouldn't hurt you to do your research before implying that I'm not a lamb. I just said her Kimmel performance was amazing, defended her when people called her performance boring, thought I Don't was a bop despite YG's rap, etc. Yet, I say something that isn't sunshine and rainbows in this moment and I'm now a goat. I'm both vocal about the things that I find positive and negative, so good luck figuring out what box to put me in. In fact, put me in a box called "grown woman who doesn't feel the need to bow down to anonymous people online, whether that means I'm perceived as a lamb or not". The "are you a fan?" bait is old. The textbook definition of a fan: "a person who has a strong interest in or admiration for a particular person or thing". Notice the word "or" in that sentence. Over the past couple of years I will admit my admiration has waxed and waned but my interest has never wavered, hence my 21 pages of messages on this website.

No, I'm chalking it up to exactly what I'm seeing and that's bratty behavior. She didn't even let the guy finish his question before she rudely interrupted him to give a tactless statement and then went on to talk about being foiled over not winning an award years ago, like that's even possible. It's not. Grammy awards aren't given out based on what's more impactful 10+ years later. The members vote on what they like and/or feel is best in that moment. Again, that criterion is subjective and again who even knows how many votes Mariah actually lost by. It could've been a very small amount; it could've been just one. Mariah was not snubbed. Snubbed would've been her album not being nominated at all.

Definition of waning: "decrease in vigor, power, or extent; become weaker". According to this definition, Mariah's voice has waned. Even "positive lambs" will acknowledge that she doesn't sound the way she used to. That's called waning. That doesn't mean she's a bad singer. I just said 2 days ago that she sounded stellar at Jimmy Kimmel. Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston and Celine's voice have waned as well and they were all great artists. I refuse to see telling the truth as disrespect. People really need to start looking up the definitions of words before getting triggered by the smallest comments. Also, what I meant by "she doesn't have much to bring to the table anymore" is that her vocals are inconsistent. One day she will sound amazing, the next day I'm wondering what happened to her voice. That doesn't negate all of the positive contributions she's made in the past, but I'm talking about here and now. If your vocals are, I repeat, waning, adding a bad attitude as the cherry on top is not a smart move. Nowhere in my comment did I say that activism or rebellion is reserved for those people only. My point is that I don't think Mariah is willing to fully go down the road of "sticking it to the man" and while she may talk shit about different corporations from the comfort of her chaise lounge, I don't think she will ever give back her own Grammy's that she's received, protest or do anything significant besides sit and complain all the while still having the Grammy's that she talked trash about up for display in her house. I stand by my comment.

The silence of the super-yass-queen lambs (72,905) (72,910)
by Edward from USA

Marissa, you were spot on. Remember when Mariah was rambling nonsense before she had the nervous breakdown? Yes, that time Cindi Burger had to take the microphone off her hand because she was going Looney Tunes on camera. Well, I think we're witnessing that same type of behavior once again. I'm pretty sure these "yass-queen, let them have it" super lambs wouldn't do what Cindi had the guts to do if they had the chance in a similar situation because whatever the queen does or say should be followed blindly. They would empowered Mariah to keep on bringing negativity her way. The delusion is so rampant that they actually think Mariah doesn't care about fame anymore. Well, evidence of the craziness that has been going on show a woman desperate for attention and relevancy. But oh well, those same lambs would also say that MW was a docu-series and that there should be a part 2. If being a fan means to do all that, I'd rather not be one. I'm glad MCA's messageboard is not run by one of these people, it would've disappeared three months after it was put online. Maybe they should come together and open Mariah Daily again, where everything used to be pink, with unicorns, rainbows and butterflies.

I don't know who this guy is but he seems delusional. Why would he publicly say that people supposedly think the Jackson 5's ABC is not as good as his version? That's absurd. Second, he basically stole Mariah's music and he's gonna be rewarded for that? That is complete nonsense. Mariah would never do EDM anyway so I don't believe this to be true. There's no decent reason for any of this and he seems annoying to be quite honest.

Adele's music isn't something special that people have chosen to gravitate to, she's literally making r&b/pop music which had been done a million times over. She's a white woman singing this and therefore she'll get much more attention than a Ledisi or Jill Scott for example (those women have much better voices too). It is the same case for Amy Winehouse, people treated her like she was Aretha; it is what happens when you're white in this industry.
